i love it. she is proving her point. this is why democracy is wonderful. she gets a choice, shebest joe o vote. that's ultimately what this is about. you're beginning to look at what's going on with the gerrymandering and denying people the ability to make a choice in election because the only election that matters will be the primaries where the republicans are guaranteed the results. even the democrats.
3:05 pm
democracy is a choice and i want to celebrate h r to let's talk . you have republicans refusing to embrace one of the best immigration policies possible. they keep saying they want to fix the border andility to keepm coming across illegally they want to make sure there are more people along the border. there is a fabulous bill that's being stopped by republicans because they don't want to solve the immigration issue. the border issue because this is what they use to threaten americans and threaten this country. i think that's what's so sad. they keep talking about open borders. we do not have open borders. they keep talking about it because the cartels use the republicans talking about open borders they going to places like venezuela and china alet'sd bring you up to the border.
3:06 pm
it turns out that's a lie. you do not have open borders. pass a bill that will likely the people don't want to fix the border issue are republicans. host: independent line, hello. caller: hi, i was going to speak about the last comment about the border, i am in new york and to say we don't have an open border is ridiculous. the amount of illegal■l immigras , they came here, they didn't come in the right way. they came in illegally. to say that we don't have an open border is ridiculous. the media keeps saying things like this. it's what will turn everyone against them. my questnsall these reporters gl

of surprises. have any of them said it was a lie? there was no collusion with russia. we are losing this country because of the media. host:hat's david in new york. guest: we don't have an open border, we need to repair the border absolutely. let's remember that someone w hn as a refugee and says they are taking asylum is not the same as an undocumented immigrant. they are turning themselves in. they're handing themselves over and thiss whamthey are not comin illegally, they are seeking asylum. that is not the same. we need to figure out how to process them and we need to figure it had to prove this many

to enhance with happeninatno onu but after but asked the republicans why they are not supporting that and ask why they talk about an open border or when we want to address polies aborder, they are missinn action because they don't want to solve the problem. host: you talked a little bit about it at the beginning so elaborate how foreign policy could be a factor in this campaign. youing on in israel. there was recent news about the houthis and the biden administration. how will that impact them going forward? guest: east has always been a tinderbox. so is been a place of such chaos. the problem right now as you have the most conservative reactionary israeli government and that's benjamin netanyahu. there was that comment of from
3:09 pm
the river to the sea and she was censored and people were appalled by that language. that's not only did he say there will never be a two state solution which joe biden says is essential, he used the words from the river to the sea. s not biden saying this, this is bb mitt netanyahu saying this. as a result, i have to think that joe biden has to start thinking about israel is more ob understands that. don't get dragged into something that will hurt israel and hurt the palestinians and hurt us on the world stage and frankly hurt joe den's reelti this is the time for you to start talking about disconnecting from bb because he is not good for stability and he is toxic for israel. host:■
3:10 pm
houthis. how does it politically impact the administration? guest: the problem now is that this is where this conflagration goes beyond what's going on in ga.that's exactly what iran kno. the question becomes -- there is no easy answer here. there is no easy answer and the problem at this point in time ma cease-fire and then the stability you try to create. i don't know how to answer that question to be honest. i just know is that iran is pulling her strings and becoming a factor in you heat see what's happening with bb and he's pulling joe biden into the darkness. host: alabama, democrats line, hi. caller: good morning. you a bad girl. i really love you. but you are doing a good job
3:11 pm
this morning. it is about democracy. i made black woman that voted for joe biden. democracy is on the line. stop telling us and start worrying about democracy. as a black person, i'm very worried about this country and about everybody's freedoms. as a woman period, we need to be worried about democracy. you hit the nail on the head. i'm sick and tired of people netanyahu took his eye off the ball. [indiscernible] padestroy israel but benjamin netanyahu was worried about his

political future and the crimes he committed. blamed himself. it's not about president biden and it's not about trump, it's about who are we as americans. joe biden has this economy on the right path and everybody needs to wake up. guest: i think she can be my cohost. you can't world. you can look at what he's tried to do in the last four years and what he's tried to do i think is been incredibly successful. he would have been more successful if he controlled the senate and the house. what he's trying to do on student loans. we are burdening students with such incredible student debt. i callti-dowry.
3:13 pm
you can't plan a future. they can't plan a family. they can't put their investments into a business or buy a home. he understands that. that's one hehings he also undee doesn't trust bb. he understands it. they put their -- they took their eye off of gaza. look what he was doing in the west bank. america used to be the conscience of israel but would be be in charge, there is no conscience. he is donald trump based in israel. don't follow bb because he will not give you the results you want. donald trump is a raw shack test. he's whatever youant that's wh't unfortunately, this is the choice. he does not have a following of an electorate. he has a cult. when you have a cult, isss
3:14 pm
d't matter. whatever the head of the cult says matters. for donald trump, it changes by the hour. there is no consistency. the only consistency is i must win if i don't, the ection wasv. the only solution is a trump solution. host: this robin west virgin wting a text -- guest: look, i didn't vote for joe biden the first time in the primary but i voted for him for president. 't want him to run again. i didn't want him to run again but he somehow is in the position with an ego. he was the only one thatthe facs is what my choice is and they have started to grew mother people.

look at the governor michigan in california. e are other people. this was not an opportunity to move them forward but the bench is getting thicker and longer. people understand that there will be new leadership groomed n wins in 2024 and you will have plenty of choices in 20 28. host: to what extent do you think vice■ president kamala harris is prepared to take over the position? guest: i think she is prepared. i think she's prepared. if anyone has seen what's been going on, i think she is ready to step in. my v■xieishe that joe biden may shuffle a little bit and feel old and has that persona but he has an ability to think. he has institutional memorhe den understanding of what the moment

needs i want joe biden to not only get reelected but i wanted to survive the next four years because in the end, as he continues to move forward in a positioner and if he gets the house and senate to work with him, there will not only be a salvaging of the democracy and a salvaging of the economy and ability to address the climate crisis but we will remind the world about why we are important player on the world stage. host: let's hear from philadelphia, democrats line. caller: good morning. i will hit some points very fast. biden and i like what arnie said about joe biden being the vehicle and she being the driver. that should be a placard. also, according to the 14th amendment, i think trump should be in prison along with 140 seven republicans and clarence thomas his wife. i believe in abortion righ.no oi

should do with my body. the wars overseas, we should support ukraine and i think we should not support netanyahu. i believe he's a dictator. i think immigration should be something to talk more about because texas is sending their immigrants throughout the country. people and i think they are coming in and abusing the system. we need to focus on that because it's getting totally outrageous. it's meg beg lastly, i believe h company should stop abusing the people in the congo. thank you very much. you've addressed a lot of those issues so tell me what you are paying attention to through november as we go through the

spring and summer months. guest: you are talking to on the 51st anniversary of roe v. wade that was overturned by dobbs. i will be saying to women, this is your opportunity not only to show up to save the nation. it's more than just what happened with dobbs. it's really about your quality in the work place. i will be looking and reaching out to women across the count from both sides of the political aisle. in the end, we are all vulnerable together. if we are looking at our children and our families and we're looking at her connie looking at her access to health ctors don't want to show up like in iowa because their ability to practice medicine is being threatened. i'm not just talking about ob/gyn. almost anyone that touches up patient now has ask themselves if they can provide the health care not just for

women but for families. going forward, i want to see how dond want to see how the climate crisis plays out and i want to see how the conversation with young people will play out. if those things become the conversation in the november election, then joe biden wins. wer. all he has his anger and chaos with no solution. that's not it governor or a leader, that's not someone who will move us forward. if we■ can see those issues predominate, joe wins. if trump ultimately becomes the issue, joe wins. there is a strategy here not just for a speaker but a significant win. the issues are too important for all of us. host: our guest is the host of the attitude with arnie arneson. where can people find your show? guest: they can go townhn live.

in n york city.]d on the democratic side because the democrats are starting with south carolina and there's a push for a right in for joe biden, the democratic national committee says it's meaningless. for democrats, there is little reason to be engaged and for republicans, very little hands-on grasping the kind of organizing and politicking and living rooms and it's not been about the issues. that's donald trump. even if you are running against donald trump who is the only one left standing is nikki haley, they are afraid to attack him and they just say trump withoute chaos. where you stand on the issues? it's been the least issue focused discussion i have ever heard for any kind of election let alone election for president. host: now there are two people honorable -- republican side, what you think of ron desantis dropping out yesterday? were you surprised? guest: god, no.
3:28 am
i did a show thursday and they asked me about ron desantis and i said he's burnt toast, what's the point. the only place he could really have done significantly well was iowa. what you saw in iowa, he's been there for over a year and he has the governor pocket. he really had appealed to the evangelical base but now what you see about iowa and what happens here is that in iowa, it's almost like they are just there are two evangelical groups. it turns out. new hampshire is one of the least church states in the nation. we don't necessarily trust big government or big church so we have nowhere to go. the campaign had run out of money and frankly, he is probably the most dis-likable

person running for president. when you are running as a version of maga and you' charm have no money, there was nowhere for him to go. if he wants to set himself up either to run for the u.s. senate run for president in 2028, getting 5% of the vote in new hampshire was not going to do him any service. host: if you take a look at usa today recently, they did a poll about new hampshire voters. one think they focused on was independent voters. there was a poll taken two weeks ago that said half of democrats and independents rank the question about the matters of democracyzc■' over concrete cons like health care or crime defying the conventional political wisdom of the economy. do you see the same thing playing out there in the state? guest: i thithey look at democre

line democracy is more than just about the franchise. it's more than just about the right to participate and establish your future. now you're talked about democracy and you are talking about autonomy. really are talking about the economy. if you begin to see what donald trump is bringing in which is a form of fascism, it's taking away the right to exercise and participate in the civics of this country but it will also undermine your ability to be equal when it comes to health care and the economy to recognize unions. the idea of democracy is a much bigger umbrella than most people think. i think it has some economic undertones as well. host: if you want to ask our guest a question about 024 overall, (202) 748-8000 for democrats, (202) 748-8001 for republicans, (202) 748-8002

independent. you wrote a recent piece about this right in campaign this taking place in the state or president biden. host: can you elaborate on that? guest: if you write in joe in on the republican side. how do you spell democracy? biden. with chris christie out of the race, no one is challenging trump. ■pnikki haley is maga polite. on all the issues, it's similar
3:32 am
to what donald trump will do. in the end, you get nothing in the way of protecting democracy. ■$she wants to get rid of birthrights citizenship, she is similar to him and the issue of a portion is the third rail for republicans. if you want to send a message and get the democracy question, you write in joe biden on the republican side that ultimately is more powerful because that is a statement to republicans that you actually care about democracy. no other choice gets you the dc said writing in joe biden is meaningless. that's the dnc. frankly, if you want to see something, writing in joe biden, this is an opportunity for you to send a spy -- send a policy message. there a conversation in new hampshire about writing in cease fire. ase fire, you

are hurting joe biden. i said no, what's hurting joe biden is benjamin netanyahu. if you want anything in the way of enthusiasm, what you have to focus is if we cannot participate in the primary, then send a message. if you know people under the age of 35 are thinking about this primary, givon to show up on tuesday. writing in cease fire which is what they believe in and returning the hostages what they believe in. writing in cease fire will do it. it sends a message says bb is hurting you, we are not. host: you also wrote about the 2024 campaign for the nation. this is what you wrote -- can you elaborate that? guest:■#relatively

remarkable job. did not support him before and yet what you realize what he's done, he's an interesting character. he becomes the moment. he is not an ideologue. what the momentright now whether the climate crisis are dealing with unions, he has become the moment and moved in a more progressive way. but he doesn't carry himself
3:35 am
unfortunately, donald trump is passionate on those subjects. he was to feed his ego and fascist agenda. i'm disappointed in him but in 2024 in november, here's what i bring to the voting booth. i'm bringing in kate cox from texas. i'm bringing i uaw and their movement for the unions in this country. i'm bringing in the climate crisis and the investment and things like solar and wind. i'm bringing those in the only vehicle i have to bring those into the voting booth is not going to be donald trump. it will be joe biden. i will vote for joe biden not because of joe but because of all the issues i care about. he will be the vehiclend ihost:, how far has he driven on those issues? guest: i'll be honest with you, joe■n■■> biden is not mentionede word abortion for the first two
3:36 am
years of his -- first few years of his presidency. the dobbs decision is changed everything in this country even for joe biden. i think joe biden now realizes dobbs wasn't just about abortion. it's about the economy and it's about the ability for women to be a part of the economy. with eac's beginning to recognize that and i think he is realizing he has to make a difference even though old joe would never have talked about it. the new joe does. when you look at the cith remanufacturing, it sounds like it's about a manufacturing job but it's not only bringing jobs back to the midwest and places that were decimated but it's what are those jobs? they are looking at thingsisis. he's spent more time doing it. i think that's important as well. on a lot of the issues he's there.
3:37 am
has hebt reduction he wanted? no but if he was president in 2024 or after, i think a lot of that will follow if he gets the house and senate he needs. guess the trifecta, he can put his agenda forward. host: arnie arnesen is joining us for this conversation from new hampshire. yoe up first, go ahead.an line, caller: good morning, everyone. happy monday. two things, we talk about -- you talk about democracy■7 but who's the one actually attempted to overthrow the government? the democrats a been trying to ocracy since day one and take away voters rights. the climate crisis, there's no such thing as a climate crisis.
3:38 am
i'm how long do you think they won't last more than a day in this type of weather. you are accusing him of things that couldn't be further from the truth. you are trying shove your agenda down our throats. host: don in texas. guest: when denies science, we can have ay fascism, we can't have a conversation. part of the problem is it's been about diverting away from what is happening. i will not talk about the climate crisis unless you look at what's happening to thai wi'g with hurricanes. i will talk about the fires in canada. all those things are not about whether. they are not about the wea,he cd if you want to deny what 98% of

3:40 am
i don't think that's promoting acguest: can i answer that question? first of all, let me remind everyone that democratsnot vote in the republican primary. here's what happens, as of october 6 of 2023, you were able to change your party affiliation. that means you could pick up a republicane a democrat or you can become an undeclared. that was october 6 of 2023. after that, nothing changes. on the day of the primary in new hampshire, not onlyan primary or democrats vote in their primary but what's called an undeclared has a choice. that choice is that you pick up a democratic ballot or republican ballot. it's not that democrats would vote in the republican primary, it's that the undeclared get a choice.
3:41 am
they can swing either way. that's one of the reasons why nikki haley can ib■s she courtse undeclared. if it was just republicans like in other states, it would be different but this has always been the way we've done it. that's what makes this such an interesting state. democrats do not vote in republican primaries. undeclared and republicans do and what's interesting about the election tomorrow is that in new hampshire in something called same-day registration means on the day of the primary come if you are not registered to vote, you can come in with the right documentation and you can participate in the primary. people that have either become 18 or moved into the state who don't have a history and never voted in the primary. they may never have a history of voting. if someone was smart and worked on get out the vote, they would have made sure those people got
3:42 am
registered and voted on tuesday. my understanding is that donald trump has an incredible get out the compared to what he did years ago and that organization might ultimately show up. nikki haley doesn't have that organization. she has americans for prosperity but would donald trump hasicates time and if he were smart, he would go to them and say let me show you how to register and why you can vote in the republican primary. decrhost:host: that's a lie. let's hear from jimmy and hudson, new hampshire, democrats line. caller: yes, hi, thank you. thank you for-span thank you washington journal. brian lamb is amazing. my question is, there are two points, nikki haley has a.
3:43 am
i'd like her reaction on her real name but the second one is i'd like to follow-up up on the last caller. you are right, i am a registered democrat and i cannot went to the national new hampshire primary to vote for a different party. d like her response to that. thank you. thank you for what you are doing. i will take my answer offline. guest: nikki haley is what nikki haley's name is is not the issue. the problem right now is because the republicans have realized that they are the dog that cost thewhat they have now done is ty have moved aggressively on the immigration issue.
3:44 am
that is what is so terrifying. what you are suggesting with her na about disappointment about her understanding about new americans and the immigration issue. nikki haley wants to get rid of birthright citizenship. she may not want toouundocumentd trump wasn't and put them into a camp but what she wants to do is a more polite version, recognizing that when you have 11 million undocumented pele inat are they doing, they are working? they are working in your landscaping and on your roof. they are almost essential to the economy. in a lot of ways, she is pandering to that. to mention her name, i want to remember -- to remind all of us that we are nation of immigrants. except for native americans, all her families came from somewhere else. that's our strength. host: of the reelection campaign of president biden, how much of that is threatened by challenges on the
3:45 am
democratic side from dean phillips or cornell west, the independents. guest: dean phillips is not an issue. that will not be an issue for joe biden although he wants to package as a younger joe biden, i'm worried about the third-party. those are the kinds of things, we saw what happened with al gore. we understand what ralph nader did in new hampshire.we would've otherwise. is a significant sermon but the agenda is joe biden needs to win, not by a tiny margin, he needs to win five eight, 10%. the third-party is not about a choice. it's about establishing a platform for donald trump to win again. for joe biden to win on the ing needs to convince
3:46 am

3:51 am
and you look at how she is transformed her agenda, when it comes to running for president, she sounds very much like g agenda. a the governor of south carolina is not the person running for president. when it comes to the issue of nd ma on this issue. shega. on the issue of immigration, she is like the trunk ma crowdg and that's what frightens mea and in the end, looking at two or three things you can point to, some governors do things right. en being defined by the code others and the maggot base. when you look at those two in concert, she harms the country. there is a viewer who texted us -- he has a problem with
3:52 am
that. then again, what we have to do is we have to remind people what the issues are they care about. in the end, this is aen that doesn't have the name joe biden on it. it has the issue of democracy on it. this is a campaign that has an issue of what's happening with student loan debt, an issue about health care. you have to put biden to the back of the bus and make the issue be the driver. i just had three young people in my house and by the time they got done with the conversation, d they were pumped about why they need to engage in 2024 any recognized they may not be happy with joe biden but they want a future and if this is the only way to get
3:53 am
