11:00 am
[000:00:00;00] the, you're watching due to the news coming to live from berlin. a major rescue operation underway in the us city of baltimore. a cargo ship has cracked into a major bridge, causing it to collapse, emergency responders and say they're trying to reach out to 20 people in the water will be bringing you the latest on this breaking news. also coming up on our show today as well, cancelled the visit of a delegation to washington after the un security council approved a resolution for an immediate cease fire in gaza. us did not veto the proposal
11:01 am
while everybody else voted in favor the i'm quite richardson. thank you very much for joining us. the us state of maryland has declared a state of emergency after a cargo ship crashed into a bridge in baltimore, causing it to collapse. we're going to take a look at the moment when the francis scott key bridge came down, captured on a live web feed authority, say that multiple vehicles were on the bridge at the time, including one the size of a tractor trailer truck. at least 20 people are believed to be in the water and the fire department has called it a mass casualty multi agency event. they say the operation is going to extend for many days. now, as for what we know about the ship itself, it is
11:02 am
a single poor flagged vessel managed by the synergy marine group. the company says all of its crew members have been accounted for and to know injuries have been reported. just to give you a sense of the scale of this, the francis scott key bridge, it's 4 lanes across. it was 2.6 kilometers long and we've more than $11000000.00 vehicles using the bridge each year. it is simply a major part of the road network. on the us east coast officials in baltimore have been giving more information about the bridge collapse on social media. let's take a look. here we have a baltimore mirror, brandon scott posting on x. he says i'm aware of and on route to the incident at the key bridge, he goes on to say, emergency personnel are on the scene and efforts are underway. we also have county executive johnny, also ski, a writing that he remains in regular communication with the fire chief and the
11:03 am
director of emergency operations rescue efforts are underway and he continues please pray for those impacted. so from war on is developing story under uh, from the united states over the years. can you tell us what more we know about this incident at this point? well, that's a too much information out, but let's look at the ship 1st. and you mentioned that it was a cargo vessel named valley that was uh, going under single pool aflac. now it had actually just left the port this bridge and it was seen that on the map to a is coming immediately as you go out of the port into the atlantic ocean. so the ship was just on roots to short on cash or what, what has been a $27.00 day trip. and they were just into that trip for about half an hour when that happened. but the one thing we do know, and we can clearly see that on the video there, we also just showed if we back that up a lot more, we see just about 2 minutes before impact the lights go out on the vessel. there's uh, black smoke coming out of the ship,
11:04 am
so it seems pretty clear that there must have been massive technical problems. uh, it is unclear what it was. exactly. we do not know that from the statement of the owning company, what you said that the all crew members, they say are fine, but there is, at this point, no information on what happened on the ship, but obviously there must have been a fire and it was probably at that point impossible to navigate the ship and that's how it ran straight into that main pillar that's carrying that main span. we are just looking at that moment of impact and that bridge coming crashing down upon impacts. lars, tell us more about the bridge itself. how important is it for the region as a point of transport? yes, interesting, because this is not a very well known page, but it is one of the most important bridges probably in all of america because the road it carries the, the i $95.00 is a little power little, but that's a system of relatively the i $695.00, the total interstate of group offer roads that is basically the main,
11:05 am
a connection along the eastern seaboard connecting all the cities of the states from maine and the north to miami, florida. a. so this just these millions of are as the fluid source. now you just mentioned uh, a number there yourself. it's about 12 and a half 1000000 cars just last year. that comes to about $35000.00 vehicles a day. and by any standards that is pretty much bumper to bumper traffic. and on this particular bridge, it's most the cargo of traffic as what's most the trucks. and that's going to be a problem not just now for the morning commute. of course, when all of this has to be re directed through the other channels that are leading into washington dc. but this is going to be a massive problem for the american different infrastructure and for the economy for the next couple of years. and he did as well. thank you so much for bringing us up to speed with the very latest such as d w's. lars hold, sir. let's turn to israel now where there is growing anger over the un security council. the decision to pass
11:06 am
a resolution demanding an immediate cease fire and gauze that for the muslim holy month of ramadan. after vetoing 3 previous efforts, the united states did not block this attempt. and then response as well as prime minister has canceled plans to send a high level delegation to washington. the un resolution also calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, still being held by him off the group of behind to the october 7th. the terror attacks the drugs to degrees of hailed a milestone moment at the united nations security council. 14 nations voted in favor of the resolution, calling for c spy and johnson. for the 1st time, the united states refrain from detailing the agreement in steed, abstaining to insure directly opposing a request from israel not to do so to this resolution,
11:07 am
rightly acknowledges that during the month of ramadan, we must resubmit to peace. a mouse can do that by accepting the deal on the table. a cease fire can begin immediately with the release of the 1st hostage. and so we must put pressure on him us to do just that. is rails planned invasion of rafa is causing major concerns for the us. it's biggest ally and it's really delegation was due to travel to washington this week to discuss alternatives. but it's really prime minister been human missing? yeah. who cooled off the trip after the security council's decision? and as well as defense minister you of garland. oh, really in the us shows no signs of acknowledging the ceasefire. cool. hope will solve it. we have more right to adopt of war and gaza until the return of the hostages home. based off,
11:08 am
you do not reach it clear up the size of the decision and gaza. and they bring us closer toward the north of color, middle hop on me cellphone. in john's, the security council vote for some hope to me. the other sparks the crucial step towards halting israel's actions on the us must leverage all of its resources and assets. both the primary and ultimate advocate for israel provide them while the seas 5 voted foot. hope and gaza without israel support. it may end up being a symbolic just yet rather than a practical solution for pace. well, there's no question that the un resolution will feature in talks between germany's for administer and elaina, bearable and taught members of the israeli government bear walk is already called on as well not to launch the military offensive against the city of rasa in gaza. while she is also cautiously welcome to the u. n. c, fire resolution, a z in your off today there was perhaps
11:09 am
a little bit of lights on the horizon. the cool by the security council and the for the international community for a ceasefire is overdue. yes, it is across live to jerusalem, and dw is rebecca rivers for more. rebecca, germany's foreign minister has met her is really counterpart for administer as well . a caps this morning. can you tell us what we saw? come out of that meeting, a hard time, provide too much detail play. that was a closed door meeting. we always knew that the no public information would really be coming out of it. but from those a bit more preview, bit closer to the talks. it certainly seems as though it was a very frank, open and clear discussion with germany, particularly making its case of very strongly none at germany is finding itself in an increasingly difficult position. you might say on the one hand, of course, the historical special relationship that it has with israel and its steadfast
11:10 am
support for israel before the tap attack of october 7. certainly during that time, and of course in the ensuing war, during the war. but it's also, on the other hand, seeing and increasing the humanitarian diet, humanitarian situation in gaza unfolding. and that rising death told him that something that it comp standby and was happening at least not continuing. so you, you have germany trying to balance these 2 realities that for show it's unlikely that any difference and you have them policies going to come about any time soon be hearing the different wording, the landline, the bad book supporting the un security council vote yesterday. and that's certainly, you know, it's a little bit of a change in time for germany. now there's certainly more red lines to be crossed. israel has a more leeway before we might say, germany changing any policy. but i think these discussions are certainly going to have been some of the most frank that we've seen between the 2 nations sofa. and rebecca,
11:11 am
what are the chances that israel will abide by the un resolution calling for an immediate cease fire and gaza as well? i think we're seeing what israel is going to do is kind of playing out already that they know a change on the ground. and in fact, i think we're seeing quite the opposite of them. adhering to that resolution, israel caps the foreign minister, we would just as talking about who, who met earlier today with a we've bare bulky here in israel. he tweeted shortly after the vote that you either i would not put out the fire. then we had many guns also coming out, and now he's not a member of the government, but he is a member of the will cabinet. he's paid a very important role in the most israel war to days. he said that israel has a moral obligation to continue fighting until the return of all the hostages. now that seems to be the line that is really sticking to the site. it seemed to be determined that they are not going to offer any kind of ceasefire. certainly not unless they see a hostage release deal,
11:12 am
some kind of the hostage is being released by him us. and that they will continue ignoring this international law of this international piece of legislation that it is now from the un security council. so very unlikely that they're going to follow what we say exactly what the reaction from the world will be to them. ignoring that it remains to be seen rebecca rivers. thank you very much. let's take a look now at some other stories making news around the world's japan has approved plans to so future next generation fighter jets being developed alongside britain in italy to other countries. they expect the aircraft to be ready by 2035. the decision to allow exports as tokyo was late a step away from its pacifist principles adopted at the end of the 2nd world war. the us federal agents have rated homes and los angeles and miami belonging to the hip hop star, sean combs, known as ditty the operations part of

a sex trafficking investigation by authorities in new york city is also facing several lawsuits over alleged sexual abuse russian president vladimir putin has acknowledged for the 1st time that radical islamists carried out fridays attack on a concert hall near moscow, the killed more than $130.00 people for men from to g, cuz then have now been charged with carrying out an act of terrorism. after a period before moscow court on sunday, in the wake of the massacre who didn't accuse ukraine of being involved, even as a branch of the so called islamic state claimed it was responsible for the assaults and remarks that a kremlin meeting pollutants of the attack was intended to so panic, come on, russians is name still is to blame you. we know the crime was committed by radical islamists who follow in ideology, but i'll make war has been fighting for centuries. you can maybe get him started. we're also seeing the united states has been using various channels to convince the
11:14 am
satellites and other countries, and you'd have to stop. but you get involved in that intelligence you. there's more praise, i'll keep in the better that in most schools we still could always do it at a bloody attack. was committed by islam is from this law makes state organization, but i see, i think, is us, which is bind in russia. we know who committed this crime against russia and it's people with the you want to know who ordered it less than 2 to switch those up. gosh. let's hear from dw yuri or shadow about why bruton has finally acknowledge that is one this extreme miss or behind the assault a while it actually is russian state is good. it's showing strings, often the effects and over reacting what i think there are some states is obviously not good at preventing serious crimes in advance and at the meeting mistakes late and put in the ones. now finally, to show a strong man, a strong president, a strong politician who act decisively. uh, you know,
11:15 am
put in is the thing we finally do. a said at the meeting, what all those before him have long since recognized that the terrorist attack was carried the old by radical islamist the as intelligent services board to the kremlin of this weeks ago. the credibility of the isis video was also considered. yep. to be very, very high from the beginning. the whole world was talking about islam is only put in pretended that it was not clear who was the perpetrator school. and now that the full man has been presented to the court, put in simply have no choice but to finally acknowledge the responsibility of ices . at the same time, she is drawing attention to ukraine. why? because she wants to reject the accusations that she did the trip up nicely potentially. because i remember not only did she ignore americans warnings about attack um, but she also a publicly made fun of it the day before, i had to stay to make fun of 10 of warnings and then face this is tara in his
11:16 am
country the next day. what else gives you suppose to say, and this is where your credit comes into play because the entire russian official, not a team in recent to us, has been focused on the right on to fight against the suppose neil knots as ukraine . it makes perfect sense. now for pointing to pick up is this trail again, and you're, i'd like to see if we can take a listen and to put in comments and which as you say, he is going to strongly suggest that you crane is still somehow involved with the opposite stuff. it's a scare tactic, as i previously said, is always the great and the question immediately uses as to who benefits from this . it does list across the beacon only be a link really in a whole series of attempts by those who since 2014 have been at war with the country interest only by the hands of the new, not the regime. and keep on that 60 and the not these as well known have never been squeamish about using the dirtiest and most humane means to achieve that goal. genius wasted. so here i tell us more about what
11:17 am
a person is thinking here based on what we just heard him saying there as well. so it's built in, provides no concrete evidence. many believe that putting is now looking for justification for the escalation of the situation. the front lines, perhaps even for a new mobile ization in russia, but i don't think that's anything change in the course of the war. i think that this statement by the president has v one and on the end to distract the population at home from putting his own mistakes at russians are deeply divided. also put in never gets tired of cleanings opposite and yacht saying how united the russians. uh, but the reason for the division is yes. of systematic, brainwashed by the state controls, best media since 2014 at since the my tons of allusion mt. if they had been telling russians every day that ukraine has been money belated by the west, that the neo nazis have seized power and you create and for that to the best of
11:18 am
wants to invade russia one day with ukraine's hand ad. if you tell someone something every day, regardless of whether it's true or not, at some point is the person that you are telling me to add will start to believe it . and there is a significant number of russians who believe, executors that in russia bots that are also all the people. uh they certainly have a lot of questions for the president. no. and is that up? the leads who knows exactly what is going on in the country and i think putting is more afraid of them then all forward into directions. really important points there . thank you so much. as always, that is deed of use your shuttle opposition leader bussey road. you, my fi has been named center goal is next president. after the countries ruling coalition conceded defeat and a nationwide election. the 44 year old set to become cynical, the youngest for president. he'd been in prison less than 2 weeks before the vote, which followed months of political turmoil and one of africa's most stable
11:19 am
democracies. and his victory speech 5 promised to deliver a fresh chapter for the country or the, the people have cynical, have chosen to break with the past to make real events hopes raised by our vision of society. i hope that this vision of society will bring about the aspirations. i pledge to govern with humility and transparency and to fight corruption at all levels. i pledge to devote myself fully to rebuilding our institutions and strengthening the foundations of our way of life together. all the while i was a while there is a dock, are based regional coordinator for central africa at the institute for security studies. i asked him earlier, how prepared a bus road you, my 5 is to govern incentive goal. i think key. how so,
11:20 am
scholarships do as in public surveys, and also how a lot of our lives to be relied upon by to gladly. so who now from being pop for these positions. so i think he's sufficiently to get to and tied to cost of these and a lot of the charges responsibilities that would be attached to now getting the worst was about to not have the privilege of with the power. but i believe he's going to take charge of that didn't but to the best of his copy to them as kind of the other things that you mentioned in terms of each of those experiences. so let's look at the challenges that lay ahead for him. what do you think will be the most crucial issues that fi is facing when he takes up the role of presidents? the 1st you did call me figure out, which is that is really by getting done sometimes my minutes douches right vicinity
11:21 am
. get the need for development the same time, then cation in head securities. yeah, i don't want to watch, but much more important audio issues over the last 3 years. we really characterize, put into put development here. so it is a need for the grand legislative reform that's going to probably people in presidential power in the country and into most of the parts. but also which i think as being the leader of development to this country. and you mentioned that he does have allies. how helpful do you think they will be in his efforts to take on corruption and to bolster the economy in senegal? yeah, the want to print from the hold for the are, you know, these spots please? i mean like the and then a huge do me parts. i think they know the responsibility that risk and up on the actual that out really prove best any got some way to to be economic trying to really progress any got to be to way to, to being with intermedia and as sustain patrick. so the dogs and

a show in particular, that's event of uprising that that's correct, right? these country did last 3 years, don't become the new number moving forward. that's the reason for that constitution . i'm, it's the team in the fall that they need to carry out in the country and that most of the, the, but the minute days of the most recent to the people. thank you so much for joining us with that analysis. that is the origin while a dock are based regional coordinator for central africa at the institute for security studies. many thanks and the united states, there's good and bad news for former president donald trump and his multiple legal battles with authorities. new york court has reduced an outstanding bond payment of nearly half of $1000000000.00, and trump says he will pay up. another judge has rules that a separate and more controversial case can go ahead. donald trump arrived for court hearing and you in the hushed money case involving pulling stall,
11:23 am
stormy daniels. the judge rejected a request from trump flores to delay the trial because of concerns about the evidence. setting a start date of april 15th from his accused, default assign business records to cover up a hush money payment to stormy daniels before the 2016 election. he pleads not guilty. it will be the 1st of a criminal trial of a full make us president, the only one to full criminal cases against, from jus to start, and perhaps even finish the full,
11:24 am
the november election. but it was in a bad news for trump in his multiple legal battles. another new york judge hunted the republican front runner a lifeline in the civil fluid case, in which he was accused of both to be inflicting the value of his assets. the quote reduced to bond payment for nearly half the $1000000000.27 and gave him an extra 10 days to pay regular respected decision of the appellate division. and we will abide by that will put up in cash or bond very quickly, security scares you, but whatever it is, we'll put it up very quickly ads. when, when the case it is still a considerable sum for trump to pay that. so now it just stopped stay til thirty's from seizing assets,

including some of his best known properties. let's zoom out a little and take a look beyond our planet to see what is going on in space. a russian saw use capsule carrying 3 astronauts has docked at the international space station. the spacecraft took a russian of bella, russian, and an american to join the station. the i ss has been a symbol of international cooperation for nearly 3 decades. it is one of the last remaining collaborations between russia and the west. and i'd like to bring you an update on that breaking news coming in from the us now where maryland's governor has declared a state of emergency after baltimore francis scott key bridge collapsed after being hit by a large cargo ship emergency responders say they're searching for up to 20 people and a statement, the synergy marine group has said that it's single poor flight dolly container ship
11:26 am
is the vessel involved in the collision. it appears to have hit one of the bridges supports causing the roadway to break apart in several places and plunge into the water synergies as all of its crew members have been accounted for. is there no reports of any injuries? baltimore's fire department has declared the bridge collapse. a mass casualty incidents authorities say their focus now is trying to rescue and recover the people who were in the water. several vehicles were on the bridge at the time of the collision, including one at the size of a tractor trailer truck. will be bringing you more on this throughout the day. as news comes in now, baltimore. uh, both the baltimore fire departments, kevin cartwright, he's the director of communications, is giving on statements that we are expecting to get. let's see if we can listen in order that executive johnny o, chef, ski and farmers county fire chief jo ann ron
11:27 am
r. bruce this morning. we'll do an update on the search and rescue operations and go into sort approximately 140 hours this morning or not on one set or dispatched a call to the baltimore city fire department for, for the water rescue and of tab sco river in the area. the key bridge has units were responding, they began to receive numerous calls indicating multiple people in the water. at some point, during that, that chain of events of calls we began receive indications that a ship may have struck the key bridge. we got further information through multiple falls that the cheaper rich portions of the key bridge had actually collapsed at about 150 hours. our 1st unit arrived on scene and reported a complete collapse of the key bridge. we were also given information at that time
11:28 am
that there were likely multiple people on the bridge at the time of the collapse, and that as a result, multiple people were in the water. we were able to remove 2 people from the water. one individual refused service and refused transport. essentially, that person was not injured. wherever there was another individual, it's been transported to a local trauma center. that is in very serious condition. at this time, we have multiple air assets from the maryland state police, as well as the baltimore police departments, as well as multiple marine assets from around the region, including baltimore city and around the county, baltimore county, as well as multiple local and state police agencies, natural resources police tbd special up here it is in here. maryland state police has here been multiple resources. we are still very much in an active search and
11:29 am
rescue pause at this point and we will continue to be for some time. we have a large area that we have to search. this includes on the surface of the water, sub surface, as well as on the deck of the ship itself. we believe it is the we may be looking for upwards of 7 individuals as the latest information we have. however, what i will say is, is the information that i'm giving you right now is, as of right now, that's what we know right now. this is a very large incident, involves a very large footprint. multiple agencies are operating, therefore information is subject to change as we get more intel. and as our crews work through the morning or the next 8 to 12 hours,
11:30 am
you can expect to continue to see our air and maritime assets functioning out on the water and in the air above. um we need to do damage assessment of, of the ship itself before we can board that ship. and we need to continue our sub surface search, which is including the different types of so in our we have sides cancer in our we have other so in our capabilities here, we have underwater, you avi's that we're working with. and throughout the night, we've also been working with infrared technology, both from the air and on the water surface. so i'm going to wrap up here which is saying, this continues to be a search and rescue operate. so it continues to be very dynamic operation with multiple local state and federal resources involved. with that, i'm going to turn it over to our mayor mayor brandon scott. thank you. thank you
