point, 7000000 people have been displaced with almost 1000000000 yet. we should not clear. uh, our efik humanitarian situation or crimes and drop off to push a lot of people outside. they're all fucked in the direction of lead. you also it coming up at the crypto king, who lost it all, sam bank winfree gets 25 years behind bars or swindling customers out of billions. will another take up his crown, or is crypto going to crash? and burn the curb to currency industry is full of people likes and they've been freed. and it's full of fraudulent enterprises like f t x. and there hasn't been much change in the regulatory landscape, especially in the united states. but i think would prevent such a disaster from happening again. what do our viewers watching on

cbs in the united states into all of the around the world? welcome. we begin today with a new palestinian government and the old problems. it is suppose to fix a man intends international pressure to make major reforms. the palestinian authority on thursday presented its new government. prime minister mohammed mustafah will head the new cabinet and says that ending the war in gaza will be top priority. now there are several hurdles here, however, from us, not the policy and the authority controls guys up. and of course, there is a war there more than $1000000.00 into our now shelter in the southern city of ruffled israel pursues it's offensive against tomas militants responsible for the october 7th terror attacks. israel says an attack on rough, it's necessary to destroy moss. it's biggest allied, the united states disagrees the aftermath of an air strike and rough uh, a now all to familiar theme,

rescuers digging bodies out of rubble of the things with normal. that is be no trouble here. the strikes just come at random. the are the problem about 1500000 people live here after fleeing is really operations in the north from kansas city to hon. eunice. and finally, to rafa the end of the line where food and medicine shortages threatened an imminent famine, as well as disease outbreaks. but it's unclear how long people can stay or how safe they'll be marked areas on this map show where israel has been conducting ground operations in gaza, with troops coming close to rafa. but so far, israel has only conducted airstrikes here without sending in ground troops elsewhere. fierce ground fighting continues with assaults on targets around garza city. and han eunice ongoing. israel's allies, patients is growing sent and both the us and germany have said that a ground incursion, interrupt thought we'd be crossing

a red line. the us secretary of state antony blinking, visited the region last week to deliver that message. it risk killing more civilians. it risk reading great or having with the version of the manager and assistance. it was further isolating is really around the world and jeopardizing is long term security in spanish. but israel has been ignoring these calls from its closest allies. it says it will fulfill its goal of destroying her mouse. and that means an invasion of rasa is necessary even at the risk of a deeper rift between israel and the us. and will be gone. defeat from us about going into rafa. i told secretary blink, and i hope to do that with the support of united states. but if we need to, we will do it alone. that's the israel says it will move civilians from rafa into humanitarian islands elsewhere and gaza,
6:07 am
but has released no concrete plans while i'm joined now by you all could now go he is the former is really national security advisor to the is really prime minister. he's now with the foundation for defense of democracies. that's a us based non partisan research institute intel is they're not going to be they have you with this. israel's biggest ally, the united states does not want a full scale attack in ruffin. we heard last week from mister netanyahu that raffle will happen with or without us support. do you think that the prime minister should rethink his position a long way, but i think it's very, very important to be complete and accurate on what our biggest l i that really everything else is the most remarkable for october 7th. yep. and what is the thing in the same? what the jeep shuffle thing, what the other thing and use? what are these wisdom things so is that we should not go into
6:08 am
a big law and i know that enough, i'd be full. we can insure as much as we can, the situation of the refugees that move one to know in the center to offer. so we have to move is in 5th here. the only reason that the opposite is you need and how far is not starting yet. now, well, we're talking about and moving this is are, is that happening? the happenings? we're no, no, it wouldn't have been. this is why, how far the gone move is not starting to turn it up and i still use an order move the refugees, or the people that came from the nose themselves into other places like was the middle to see like other bases, a long drive of the relatively safe when the, when the, when do i,
6:09 am
haven't mr. job it, it will happen because the, i usually eh, administration bomb is doing no that states our allies. they will show them the plan because it's all for approval, but they will show them the plan before the end. so it will happen after that. we will do it without the a vote in the way, and it was not always by the united states, but it would have been this week. some people say maybe it would be a mystery, but the most important thing is a diesel was attacked by a group of people out think and a so you'll have a ticket before. yeah, but uh, but the students that did, you didn't even mention the one on the and so at the, for us to just keep the wait and continue to be very by the how much in their garza, this is the most important thing. we'll do know that when we make our walk through this and we are not going to delete without going into alpha in the story and
6:10 am
eliminate the come us. it has the deals and the pot hiding behind the people missing. i mean, i just want to be clear, we have not heard from the is really prime minister that, that there is a concrete plan for relocating hundreds of thousands of on line when what i want. is there a plan on the table to the? yes it is. there is a plan and you should do it because if you listen to what you said, you say that i ordered the above the plans of the idea and i approved the plan to move the people of alpha put and much more safe place. again, the one that is supposed to be the organization, him entity that is, is positive result. the software that again goes up the offer is the come off,
6:11 am
the hiding behind the people they have seen well, and they have been out of this and i was still loaded by hostages. and by their own people, they don't care that the people of guys that would stuff available in order to be kids. that even may be further develop it, which is the 3rd. so it'd be easiest for them, but they will can not. and before we bring back oh, up to just the home or the bodies. and of course we have to keep on capital delete the so come us the valley supposedly, or the most. i get the deed we came under week without entering. and during off our end or the, you know, that done the little just we, you put in these the, let me just ask you, understand the international communities of skepticism here about just the realistic chance about moving it about moving an entire population out of rafa
6:12 am
before the city is going to be attacked. i mean, is that a realistic plan and how long would that take? ok, so i would ask you, you know, the jewish people usually answer the question by question. it was the same skepticism and the same. but understanding when we say that we will go into gov, of safety, the nose of about in the human and as of incentives for newness and then other places before we move the refugees at the mountains off. and this is exactly, we do need after october 7th, it took 2 or 3 weeks before we enter the guys that we'd be gone a little bit. we did it already after we moved the paper that it shows no, just comparing these release into the really expand at the top. okay. not politically. the best 10 digits of see really and big kids in this world compared
6:13 am
to the till the end of the week. it is the lowest ever endured. it's one then. yeah, no, it doesn't mean anything any, as i usually just committed to most sort of like, uh, other places. if we, if we have about about and again, every see really on every and the old one you, there is very, very said, but these, because on the come us. but it's $1.00 to $1.00 once you really and one point or for the see really on to at the table least it's usually $1.00 to $10.00. didn't see really as only still we offer in the gaza and didn't know it's one to one point . sleep is the best wish you again, don't nice to say best, but it's the, the lowest the ratio between c really and they'll always be kid. and in this, the reason is it will be give you only because of the how much is missing. i really want to get the time we'd have to do. we would have to do it. you have to do it.
6:14 am
after will be able to more the majority of the paper forms alpha to a the best deal and most a few places. let me get your reaction to the the news coming today. from the west bank. the boss has announced the formation of a, of a new government, your reaction to that. and what does that mean for the future of gods if anything was, is really good luck in judy i am some of the i will don't go to the west make. we go to judy on some of the wisdom. very good luck. they have a lot of them just to make sure that the population of education to al sewage in our lives and our, the fees are not supposed to be disposable on security. there is no the official ends that he's not going to be at least until the day will be changed. is

that me because i was a very, very capitalized divide that i had the company that i or those mice ward lets him do it. and then with doke, i didn't know the police didn't authority that'll bring money to the till we say minis, to the teach, the, to the new schools, o $28.00, and kids. they usually, when do change, we can talk about it. i'll give them the about a student authority, the or the new one. they don't have any food and they want to have really the official jump in gaza. and again, i use the very good luck in judy and some of the, the walk through those. it is not going towards like we are out of time, but we certainly do appreciate you taking the time to talk with us. you all could not grow. the former is rarely national security adviser to the prime minister. thank you. a thank you very much. thank you. now to the crypto king, who is now the crypto convict, headed for present, from

a millionaire, san bakeman free, there's been sentenced to 25 years in prison for stealing billions of dollars from his crypto exchange platform. at the x, a prosecutors had wanted 50 years in prison. they say they've been free, defrauded tens of thousands of customers from around the world spinning over $8000000000.00 of their savings on his luxury homes and risky investments. last november, the jury found him guilty on 7 counts of fraud conspiracy and money laundering. they've been freed, founded f t expect in 2019, and a quickly grew into one of the largest crypto currency exchanges in the world. millions of users logged on to buy and sell crypto token, such as bitcoin billions of dollars passed through the site every single day. a customers thought that their cash was safe, but they've been free to use that cash to fund his own personal investments. and also to prop up as lawsuits with news broke, that f t. x was on shaky financial ground. people tried to withdraw their funds to
6:17 am
run on the bank and could say, but their money was long gone. when f t x filed for bankruptcy, banks and fried says that his own personal fortune of some $16000000000.00 had been wiped out too. during his sentencing, the former billionaire fell short of apologizing, flaming. he just made some honest, simple mistakes. he said it haunts me every day. i made a series of bad decisions. they were selfish decisions. they weren't self less decisions, they were bad decisions. my next guest tonight is regarding this one of the most prominent crypto currency researchers and critics. please to welcome back to the program. molly, why small? it's good to see your 25 years in prison. did it, sam? bakeman free? did he get what he deserved? as i think he did a prison sentence of that length is pretty monumental,
6:18 am
even though it's less than what the prosecutor is requested. and i think it will, you know, provide that kind of deterrent effect to others who are potentially thinking of trying the same types of schemes. and it will certainly prevent him from trying again in the near future, which i think is one of the most important things. do you think there are other sam bakeman freed out there already in the crypto currency world, who are already, you know, pushing and leading ponzi schemes galore? unfortunately, i do. um the curb. the currency industry is full of people likes and they've been freed. and it's full of fraudulent enterprises like f t x and there hasn't been much change in the regulatory landscape, especially in the united states. that i think would prevent such a disaster from happening again. so while you know, i'm happy to see why it hasn't,
6:19 am
there been a change to the regulations? yeah. why do you think there's scenario attempts to pass new regulation have been pretty unsuccessful thus far? and the, you know, the legislature has been very torn on how they want to go about this. and attempts by regulatory agencies like the securities and exchange commission have begun to meet with resistance from lawmakers because crypto has become such a political issue in the united states. and so i think any changes to regulation are going to be very hard fought and, and as far none have really emerged. i mean, you would think we're talking about money here, but it's not just money explained for our viewers. why is it political in the united states now? or there is a very strong ideology behind crypto is that plays into some of the political issues that are very hot topics in the united states around whether or not governments should be able to interfere with people's financial lives. you know,
6:20 am
whether or not there should be more of a hands off approach to how people handle their own finances. and that has become sort of put, the crypto has become a political issue in that sense where particularly people on the republican side of the spectrum. uh, favor sort of a hands off approach or even one that would encourage the industry. whereas i think that strong regulation is needed and more government intervention is needed. so it's, it's become very partisan. yeah, it is a kind of like a weapon against the deep state, if you will. you have been called, what are the world's most? um, yep. outspoken, prominent crypto currency critics. what are, in your opinion, the, the biggest challenges are the biggest issues that you have with this industry as well. the prevalence of fraud and the scams in the industry are, it's honestly remarkable how prevalent it's and because there is so little
6:21 am
regulatory oversight of the industry, there's very little disclosure around the types of things people are being told to put their money into. and so people don't always even know who's behind the project that they're getting involved with, how the business works, how the money's being stored, what protections they have, if something goes wrong. and so as a result, people are, you know, taking enormous risks even when they are just being told that someone's going to hold onto the crypto for them, which was kind of b, f, t x and you know, marketing. and so people are being told, you know, that they can invest in this new asset class, while the industry itself is full of people who are trying to steal those assets away from people. yep. which is largely where my concerns like it. but also we know from the very beginning that if we invest in crypt occurred on these platforms,
6:22 am
we know that these platforms, they are not acting in a fiduciary role. right. and if that's not their responsibility, um, are you saying that they should be required to be a fiduciary or to look out for the interest of the investor as well? i actually think that it's not that well known that these platforms aren't acting as fiduciary. is there were people in this very lawsuit who said that they believed that f t x. what, how to fiduciary duty to them? and so, you know, there's, there's very little transparency in the industry around what these platforms even are and what can be expected from them. i mean, there have been other collapses where people genuinely believed that these crypto currency companies were on the same level as banks and might even have the types of depository insurance. but you could expect from a bank in the united is absolutely not true, but that is how these companies will market themselves to people who don't know
6:23 am
enough to go find out for sure. and there, there isn't really a regulator making sure that this isn't happening. you, you speak a lot about about the height that surrounded crypto currencies and that still remains. by the way, you've said that it's similar to the hype that we are currently seeing around artificial intelligence. tell me about that as well. the tech industry generally generally goes through these hype cycles, where people get very excited about a new piece of technology or a new industry. and what is being said about those technology use becomes very different from the actual reality of us technology use. so we saw it in 2021 or so with the emergence of the idea of web 3, which promised that block chains were going to be the solution to all kinds of problems on the web. despite the fact that the technology was not well suited to it,
6:24 am
and i think we're seeing something very similar with artificial intelligence now, where people are talking about artificial intelligence as you know, soon becoming something that can solve practically any problem you can think of, you know, curing cancer and resolving, grow global warming, and that again is very divorced from the current state of the technology. so i think there's definitely parallels between the hype cycle we saw with crypto in web 3 and the hype cycle. now we're seeing with a i yeah, i think you bring up a good point and i think people would love to see a i give us a cure for cancer. i don't think people would welcome losing their jobs in the process through a. all right. we will say crypto currency research or, and critic molly wife, molly, we appreciate your time and your analysis tonight. thank you. thank you for having me. 3 presidents, one concert and $25000000.00 job. i miss teaming up with bill clinton and brock
