continues to make strong gains in the southern gaza city of kahn yunis. meanwhile the white house believes iran is enabling houthi attacks. why isn't the administration doing anything about that? migrants continue to pour across the southern border. we have stories from ace reporters, nate foy, bill melugin and edward lawrence. first nate foy on the ground in israel with all the latest. nate, what can you tell us? >> idf is fighting hamas terrorists and an israeli civilian was killed on the northern border after an attack by hezbollah terrorists coming from lebanon. two months after the octoberth attack this entire country is feeling the effects of this war but the focus remains in gaza. take a look at this video. today the idf confirms they took

out two senior hamas operatives that helped plan the october 7th attack that happened during a strike on a hamas command center. israeli forces continue to fight hamas weapons, fighters in civilian buildings. the cost is not coming without a cost both to innocent palestinian life and israeli troops. idf announced that former chief of staff's son was killed in the fighting. farther south the israeli air force is pounding hamas targets in the border city of rafah. this was one of the final places in gaza where palestinians can seek refuge from airstrikes, but that is no longer the case after the idf says hamas fired rockets from there next to u.n. facilities. hezbollah launched a anti-tank missile into israel killing a civilian. the idf responded with airstrikes and artillery. this happened while israel's war cabinet visited the northern border. here is prime minister benjamin

expand the war but the houthis are escalating. they're shooting at us constantly and yes, they are being enabled by iran. you know this is apparently tom everybody. so then my question is, does anybody in the white house press room, for example, ask them what are, what is the united states going to do about iran, number one or number two, about the houthis? we haven't responded to the huth thinks around we haven't tightened up the iranian sanctions yet either. >> reporter: right. larry: i agree with their analysis. i just don't flow what their response is going to be. >> reporter: that is the question i actually had for john kish bill. didn't get called on. i asked the deputy treasury secretary directly about that. why don't we cut off oil directly to iran and go more forcefully. he says they believed treasury department added sufficient sanctions against iran and crippled the iranian economy.

he acknowledged iran is not phased by the sanctions and continues to sow unrest in the middle east. larry: thank you, edward lawrence. fox business's bill melugin live from lukeville, arizona with the latest about the border problems. bill, what you got? >> reporter: good afternoon to you, larry. cpb sources tell me in the last two days there are more than 22,000 migrant encounters at the southern border and it is not slowing down. we'll give you the situation, lukeville. larry: a sown, in the middle of nowhere, two hours to get to any major city. you see the situation. hundreds of adult men from around the world crossed illegally. they're planning to be released in the country. they have places they like to go. people from africa, mauritania, liberia, even some from syria. border agents are overwhelm. they sent agents from the laredo

sector and rio grande valley sector to because they're trying to keep one the sheer amount of bodyies in the here. before it came up with the sun, groups of migrants out here getting cold, they start campfires. they use clothes, trash, pull brush out of the desert in earth to stay warm, it gets cold out here in dark arizona mornings. the flow is nonstop. look at the video we shot late yesterday afternoon. a massive number of people crossing illegally, walking down the dirt path we're on next to the border wall, approaching the border patrol as they try to process other people. that is why they are so backed up here. we had a chance to talk to these guys, they say they're here for work or meet up with families and they have different cities they plan to go in the u.s. take a listen. where in the united states do you want to go. >> detroit. california? >> new york city. >> new york city.

relatives there. >> miami. >> speaking spanish. >> omaha. >> reporter: omaha, nebraska? miami. >> oklahoma. >> reporter: larry the bottom line, we talk to a lot of guys the lags few days. we heard very few if any planning to claim asylum or have any fear. what they are planning to do is get a job in the united states. they say they're looking for opportunity here and a lot of them are looking to link up with family. most of the people we've been talking to, they are planning to head to the big apple in new york city if they are released. send it back to you. larry: bill, one quickie. you mentioned 22,000 in the last two days. is that actually an escalation in these numbers? >> reporter: it is and it is what we've seen the last few years, larry. we set the record in 2021. we set the new record in 2022. then we set the new record in 2023 now we're in fiscal year 2024. two months into the fiscal year we had more than 530,000 migrant

encounters. more than half a million people in two months. we're on pace to set a new record again if this keeps up the rest of the fiscal year. it is nonstop. larry: you bill melugin, we appreciate it. some folks, quick thoughts from me on this. republicans now have very good shot at serious border reforms to stop the flow of illegal migrants which is escalating as bill melugin just reported. by holding up joe biden's request for a supplemental foreign aid for ukraine, israel, taiwan and to so forth, the gop can put america first by defending its own border. undaughteredly the foreign aid will flow at some point but let's put america first principles for a change. joe biden's border catastrophe probably let in 8 million illegals in three years. even that number may be outdated. the big winners are drug cartels, sex traffickers,

criminals, left-wing democrats who seem to have not a care in the world about the terrible consequences for america's values, morals and safety. biden's illegal immigration has become almost as unpopular as biden's failed "bidenomics" economy. there is always been this 11 million number out there for many years about illegals who somehow septembered into the u.s. maybe with jobs, families or friendships but frankly that number is closer to 30 million, maybe running upwards towards 40 or 50 million, nobody really knows. former president trump had good control over the border in his last two years but joe biden let the horses out of the barn. even democrats, particularly the big city democrats are screaming over the high expenses and declining safety from the waves of you will illegal migrants. newt gingrich will be here a bit later in the show, makes the point conditions have gotten so

bad that war veterans being forced out of assisted living homes to make room for biden's illegal immigrants. mayors in major cities make that democratic mayors of major cities, are bellyaching in a big way about massive budget-busting spending they have to use on education or public safety or sanitation and other services to take care of biden's illegal immigrants. if nothing else the gop especially, gop senators now, have a chance to begin the process of closing the border. one thing that has to be tackled is this business of asylum seeking refugees. definitions have to be completely changed. this idea of the credible fear standard has to be abolished. i would argue that fleeing authoritarian regime rules standard should also be abolished. i would also suggest that republicans stop parole

authority for illegals. everyone of these are bidennesque ways of opening the border to everyone, catch-and-release is the popular phrase. what you want is catch and deport. which brings me to a key trump reform. while there may be legitimate asylum seeker issues, those folks should wait in another safe country for final u.s. decisions. a safe country like mexico. trump's remain in mexico policy was hugely successful, and, this would be an excellent time to provide new appropriations to build the wall begun during the trump years and republicans in the senate should really join hands with the gop house majority and their hr.2 bill which was a good piece of legislation. here's a thought, for once the entire congressional republican party should act like a conservative political party.

and finally, this is a good time to start talking about some constructive reforms for legal immigration. here too, the trump administration had made a good start with some simple ideas, for example, speak english, no some american history and civics, have a job, make an investment to start a business. there is a point system for legal immigration used by many other countries and there is no reason why we can't start one here in the united states. meanwhile get rid of the crazy diversity lottery which was an open door for terrorists who i fear have already entered the country in droves through biden's open borders. look it, not all of this is going to get passed in the next couple weeks, but, but, but, this is a good time for the republicans to put its best conservative reform foot forward. right now be tough. show voters that not only are

they going to close the border and stop the massive biden illegal immigration but also make plans for a possible legal immigration system that will generate a strong economy, maintain safety in the streets an put america first for a change, okay? that is my riff weighing in. now joining us we are privileged to have one of the lead republican negotiators on all of this, oklahoma senator james lankford. mr. lankford. welcome, sir, we appreciate your time very much. i know you're in the middle of this thing. i hear some of these meetings have been yelling and screaming and i hope fistfights don't come up but you never know, it is a pretty contentious issue, so tell me what's happening right now, okay? what specifically are you asking for as republican negotiator? >> thanks for having me on the by the way. thanks for all the lead-in on it. what we're working through some of the more basic things. we have to fix asylum. we can't have catch-and-release.

we need some way to manage our border on a day-to-day basis. we're dealing with a democrat senate, a democrat president who intentionally are looking for ways to keep the border open. they do not want to be able to slow town the flow here, or if they want to slow it down, they want to reduce it a little bit on it. as mentioned before by bill, what we've had is record numbers in 2021, 2022, 223, in fact the highest september ever was last september. highest october ever was last october. highest november was last november. highest day was tuesday of this week. it continues to skyrocket up in unimaginable numbers. we're absolutely overwhelmed with literally millions of people coming in. we're not asking for something crazy. we're asking for what the american people are asking for, we want a legal immigration system that is not chaotic and stop people coming in abusing our laws. larry: here is a quick sound of senator schumer just a little while ago.

please take a listen, mr. lankford. >> but it is not realistic for republicans to suddenly hold up ukraine aid they claim to support, then suddenly demand we take up border which has been a problem for years and solve it in a matter of days. nevertheless, we democrats were willing to give it a try. larry: well, okay. he is blowing smoke at you but he is willing to give it a try. what about this asylum system? this is being used to open the borders and i think the asylum system and the so-called parole system, senator lankford, should be closed down, okay? just more excuses to catch-and-release. >> yeah, let me say a couple things on that. for senator schumer to say republicans are, interesting enough he is frustrated with his own president because president biden was the one who sent a request over to the senate and the house to say i want funding for national security purposes. israel, ukraine, taiwan, and our

southern border. then they immediately followed that up, by the way money for the southern border will just be a tourniquet. what we really need is a change in policy. we responded back to it, i know senator schumer is upset about that. we responded to that. the asylum system is gamed specifically. go back to the first term of the obama administration, not that long ago, if we go to the obama administration, what was crossing our southern border asking for asylum in a year is happening every two days here in the united states. that just tells how things have dramatically changed. so we're not talking about ancient history here. we're talking about literally going back 10 years ago, how we actually manage the border. to be say people should not be able to game the system, be released in the country because i have fear in my country and get in line for five years to wait for a hearing. that's absurd. larry: on that point why not have them wait, whatever their motives may be, you may have to find out their motives, okay but why not have them wait in a

friendly country, oh, for example, mexico? because i think the remain in mexico policy under trump was a big success. can that be one of your demands for this legislation. >> i'm actually can't go through all the different issues but i would say we're at most basic element in this, if you release people into the country they do not check n they're just gone. they disappear into the country. whatever structure we create we make sure the asylum hear something not four or five years from now. it is when you cross the border. we're not releasing people to show up for a hearing. larry: when you mention structure that word, i've been in and out of government myself many times what are you talking about, structure? i'm suggesting how about remaining in a friendly country? i just happened to choose mexico out of thin air. somebody else tried that before. would that be part of your new structure? >> so i would tell you you and i could sit down and be able to fix this in a moment. i have to fix this with a democrat white house and a democrat senate to be able to resolve it.

i would say yes that absolutely would work, would work immediately. it obviously been proven it worked under the trump administration. he made that work immediately on it. all these are different ideas to be able to get there my goal is not to set exactly how it is done until we come to agreement. it is what is actually going to be down, that what is, if you cross the border, get an asylum hearing immediately and get a standard to enter the country. when you have 100,000 people come into a year we understand how out of control that is. two million crossing released into the country to work. that is not going to work. larry: you know that is not going to work. asylum hearing quote-unquote that will not work. and the money, the money that they're suggesting for this is to facilitate immigration, illegal immigration. >> cannot do that cannot do that. larry: won't stop it, to facilitate it. >> what they have used past few

years for immigration enforcement was immigration enhancement to allow people get into the country faster that has to stop. people show up for the asylum hearings, they do those hearings they are turned around in mass numbers because they don't qualify for asylum. asylum is difficult to qualify for. come for your hear energy four years. they will never show up for it. they are living underground in our cities. that will devastate our nation long term. this administration is keenly aware, we had tens of thousands of people released in the country they identified as special interest migrants. those people by definition a national security risk to our nation. they have just been passed on into the country on their own recognizance. we're saying make it stop. we have a plan to be able to do that. larry: i hope you can do it senator. i got to get it. we're always short of time. thank you for coming on, mr. lankford. we appreciate it. >> you bet. larry: folks why does president biden keep lying about his

meet, as the most important debate on wall street is inflation licked? good question. it has a beautiful chart. let's ask kevin hassett, former chair of the council of economic advisors during the trump administration and author of the most important book of the 21st century, the drift, stopping america's slide to socialism. we have a good full screen picture. top of "wall street journal" website. put up the chart. there it is. okay, that is the pce deflator, personal consumption expenditures deflate in common english for folks, that is the fed's preferred measure of inflation. there is goes shooting way up to 9%, actually 7% peak on this measure and now, kevin, it is all the way down to 3%. wall street is in a panic about lower inflation, i guess loving it. stocks are going up. bond rates have come down. the 10-year has gone from what,

over five, now just above four, almost 100 basis points drop in a couple weeks and i'm also interested in energy prices. brent crude$4 a barrel. that was close to 100 a month or two back and west texas, $69 a barrel, gasoline, $3.20. so kevin has it, have we conquered inflation? >> no the we have not conquered inflation. larry: okay. >> we talked about the stages of stagflation, one of wage price inflation get stuck with each other until unemployment rate goes up then the wage inflict shun goes down. wage inflation is up 5%, by the fed measure which controls for big shift. if prices are low and wage inflict shun is the way it is profits go into the tank. you will go into recession, once

equities understand how important profits are, everything goes down. my view is possible price inflict shun is ahead of wage inflict shun it is there because we're entering global recession -- inflation. but it is also possible we're not in a global recession and which case inflation will go back up and measure until unemployment goes up. we have claims today, labor market is still pretty strong. doesn't seem like we have hit that stage yet. larry: i don't know how strong the labor market is. in the first half of 2022, we have inflationary recession, two negative gdp quarters as you know. >> sure. larry: i'm thinking in 2024 we'll have a deflationary recession, i think prices will fall, goods prices are falling, maybe sticky services prices not. i don't know, kevin, i think, i

think the bond markets are sniffing out some interesting deflation, that is what i think and by the way it is a pity they're not cutting taxes and deregulating because deflation can be a good thing if you combine it with productivity and more after tax incentives to invest but i don't know. deflation recession, i'm thinking that is what the bond market is talking about? >> if it is though think about it, larry. you could be right about that but, a good deflation as kudlow and art laffer taught us a long, long time ago in the reagan administration when you get a lot more supply. because you have a supply side tax cut. all of sudden there is all this supply and prices go down. there is not a supply boom right now. there is nothing like that at all f we're getting inflation, it is all demand side which means we're heading into recession. larry: right. >> the market thinks we'll cruise control it but i'm not so sure and one of the main reasons you talk a lot about, government
