elizabeth: joining us now, sideline reporter, journalist e who used to cover the national football league, michele tafoya joins us. it's so good to have you on. >> thank you. elizabeth: it's good to see you. we've got this controversy, okay? this is what's going on, ncaa president charlie baker, he's saying, yes, division i schools can let their student at a heats for the first time ever in history get paid by things like enforcement deals. so do you think it's going to escalate the fight over biological males in women's sports? >> well, i don't know if it's going to escalate that, i'm not quite sure how the two are intertwined, but this is going to change the face of college sports forever, that we're going to see, i think particularly in football, we're going to see a massive kind of subconference of

about maybe 68 schools, maybe -- 6-8 schools, maybe fewer, that say we're the money merricks, we're the ones that can afford to pay our students, the michigans, the floridas and north carolinas, and we are going to have our own conference that we're going to control. i think what the ncaa is trying to do is they're trying to stay relevant and trying to keep some measure of control over how student athletes are paid, and they want every a heat on these campuses -- athlete on these campuses to be paid not just through endorsement, but kind of a baseline salary of $30,000 apiece. elizabeth: where do you come down on biological males in women's ports? because they're saying, riley gaines and other female athletes, that they're going to get iced out of things like enforcement deals, they're going to get iced out of things like more scholarship money? you know, lawmakers in the house have been really upset and angry over this. where do you come down on it? >> i don't think biological

males should be competing with biological females in college -- in any sports, frankly. now, if you're talking kindergarteners, first grade, flag football, that's one hinge. but when you're talking about competition where young became have spent their -- women have spent their entire lives whatever the sport and they're been aiming for a scholarship, or a roster spot -- or just a roster spot and to learn that maybe it was taken by a biological male or your place on a swim team was taken by ya thomas and, therefore -- ya thomas and now, transfer, your opportunity is gone -- therefore, your opportunity is gone, it's pat innocently -- patently unfair. we need to push back. we need to remind people this is pro-woman. this is pro-female, biological female athletes. this is what title ix was really for, was to protect women, to promote women within sports and every other aspect of college life and education. and it seems like we're really

going in a bad direction can as far as that's concerned. elizabeth: we're going backwards. you know, you're a veteran journalist. you've been covering sports for a long time. you know how hard it was for women the get where they are with title ix, how hard they fought for that. >> yeah. elizabeth: if you're talking billie jean king, great athletes of the past, and now the biden white house wants to undo title ix protections to include things like gender discrimination for trans if or biological males. >> listen, there is a way around this. no one is telling trans-athletes they can't compete. what they want to suggest very fairly is compete as a biohodgal male -- biological male because that's what or you are. anyone that comes up with this argument that, well, if they've been on puberty blockers, they're taking away their biological edge, not really. there's no definitive research that says that. maybe they diminish them a little bit, but if you were born

male, then you have have had male chrome somes the entirety of your life. and if you want to present as a female, that's one thing. but to take away lanes in a swimming pool, and thes on a championship podium, scholarships away from young women, you mentioned it, i remember my dad when i was a little girling he had three daughters and one son. when title ix passed, he was ec static. he knew his three daughters were going to have an opportunity to compete as much as their brother did. elizabeth: that's sweet. maybe they should are is their own competition. michelle michele tafoya, thank you so much for joining us tonight. and thank you so much for watching. merry christmas. i'm elizabeth macdonald. thanks for watching "the evening edit" on fox business. we're bringing you a lot of news. we're twoapg to stay on the news for you. now it's time for "the bottom line are." hi, dagen and sean. elizabeth: good. good to see you.
