ashley: it's wednesday, december in for stu today. take a look at markets. kind of essentially flat, not surprising. it's a holiday shortened week and the holiday markets overall and nasdaq 44% this career and s&p up 24% and dow up 13% and overall pretty nice returns. big tech names and power houses and meta up more than half a percent and microsoft, sorry, stu, amazon, and alphabet slightly lower.

to the basement from biden. he's campaigning for reelection, or so he claims, he's still the president for now, and yet he's hiding away in the white house, he's hiding in delaware, and now he's hiding down in st. croix. ashley: yeah, he's the leader of the free world. he's the leader of the most powerful country on earth, and his demeanor and the things that he does just is not, you know, project that. anyway, i want to move on because new york times op ed says this, a trump conviction could cost him enough voters to tip the election. that's their theory but, you know, it doesn't look that way because when you look at the polls, trump has a slight lead over biden. so the question i have for you, kkaylee, what do you think? would he fall short if there was an actual conviction or not? jowski that's the democrat's hope. it's fair to argue one of the principle purposes behind the indictments and the dozens of

charges against the former president is to bog down his campaign and to prevent him from campaigning, to prevent him from trying to win back the white house and eventually, you know, to disqualify him entirely. i would say there's a lot that we don't know moving into 2024 and i don't think any of us are ready for what's going o happen when trump does start making appearances in court when he's forced to defend himself against the trials and we don't know how that's going to affect voter sentiment. if the past few months are any indication the charges are against him and indictments against him have only served to force voters to rally behind him and they've had a rebound effect and instead of turning against the voter president, they see these as attacks against him and say we're going to stand behind him. ashley: right, i got 30 seconds, kaylee. iowa caucuses about three weeks away or thereabouts. how do you see that playing out? any winners in that scenario?

>> i think trump is expected to be the favorite but i think ron desantis has a lot at stake here, nikki haley has a lot at stake here. all three are hoping to come out on top, but trump is still in the lead. ashley: he is by a long way. fascinating, isn't it? kaylee, thank you again, great to talk to you. appreciate your input today. >> thank you. ashley: checking the markets and we've been talking about what a good year it's been actually for the markets and they're essentially flat today. let's bring in michael lansburg, welcome to the program, michael. what's your outlook for 2024? >> i think we're going to see a continuation in parts of the economy that have done pretty well. our favorite sectors have been ai, cybersecurity, and kind of the obesity drugs. i think they'll continue to do well and this market has to broaden out and can't have seven or eight stocks drive the performance and that's got to happen. i don't see rates coming down

till mid year, that's where we're at as well. ashley: some say march, but i think you could be right. happy to say you've brought stock picks along with us today. i want to begin with united health. why do you like this one? >> yeah, it was tough to find stock picks not up 100% this year. trying to find some that haven't rallied, unh has been a perpetual grower and great management and great leadership and earnings in the top line and bottom line and great dividend stories and that's going well going forward. ashley: very good. next one on the list, nextera energy. tell me about that. >> yeah, one of my favorites longer term. this is florida power and light so everybody wants to be out of new york and in florida. florida is a net winner when it comes to people moving in, and we like to call that not a prisoner swap.

his base rallied and ratings went up in the polls. i mean, how could all of this affect him next year in the election in there's those that say unless he gets convicted and even then perhaps he's going to be the gop candidate. >> we've seen this coming back coming in and trump bouncing in the polls and he gets a fundraising bounce and actually ron desantis had a much stronger chance in the polls last year, early last year before he started getting indicted. there was another bump happening near the colorado supreme court and donald trump was able to say he's been victimized and he's actually coming a f him but coming after you and it's a coated message and a lot of voters, not just the voters and republicans in general and what's happening is unfair and to be honest, undemocratic.

ashley: yeah, plays into the deep state argument, but the point being made is if he's actually convicted, then that tips the scales against him, would you agree with that or it's hard to tell in trump world. >> i think that's right. i think a lot of polls and several polls showing maybe 3 or 4% of people that say, well, if he's actually convicted, they won't vote for him. maybe thinking well, if he's in jail at that point, they won't vote for him. i have a hard time seeing the conviction and itself will tip the scales, but it's possible of course. ashley: i want to very quickly before i move on to the next topic here, i want to talk about iowa. make or break for ron desantis. i know that's crazy but he's put so much in store on iowa and traveling to all 90+ counties and if he doesn't perform that well and if haley comes out stronger, what kind of message

is that for ron desantis? >> i think a lot of donors are already telling him he should drop out and let the field consolidate around nikki haley and they're polling in iowa despite him putting all his marbles in the state and he's trailing her in new hampshire. i think there's a large fashion of both the donor base and again the what some people call the republican establishment and already putting pressure on him to pull out and let voters consolidate around the nontrump candidate, which i think at this point is nikki haley. ashley: he just fell flat on the national stage. >> well, i think one part is that he just cops off as inauthentic.

he's very cautious in the types of positions he takes and you've seen foreign policy and trying to suck up to the ashley: urging republicans to impeach president biden and the piece basically argues that any impeachment process will only help biden in 2024 and guarantee his reelection, at least that's the theory. what say you? >> depends what republicans come up with in this impeachment inquiry and one reason they did it is so they could appeal to more witnesses and make that position because they knew those would be challenged without a formal impeachment inquiry that

it may not stand up. here they don't have to demonstrate legislative purpose for subpoenaing witnesses or imposing people. i think they'll gather more information but i think it depends what they actually find and it actually rises to high crime and misdemeanor. more on several occasions and i think for joe biden, that'll be a difficult task, would you agree? >> his physical vigor is lacking and that's putting gentlyment i don't think it's a particularly informative debate. in fact i think both of the -- neither of them are very well steeped in policy.

ashley: take a look at price of oil. it's at $74.30 right now, down $1.25. analysts warning about a death cross patent that appeared on the crude oil charts yesterday. it hasn't happened by the way since early 2020, the death cross, very ominous, isn't it, when the lines of the a 50 day moving average and 200 moving day average intersect while both are on a down trend. it's a bit won i can and some analysts try to dampen fears and say it's a fourth death cross since the 200 day average was moving up. though only slightly. there'll be a test on this and the phenomena is a worrying signal to some and proceeds a massive drop in demand. the so-called death cross. now this, the energy department is going to purchase three million barrels of oil for the
