yields might be sending a message hay deponent want to hear, but they're kind of getting over it. s&p, you can see it, it is straddling the flat liefnlt s&p down 1 point, the nasdaq up 6 points. so let's get to the consumer price index. it rose 3.4% annually in december, higher than the expected 3.2% and above the 3.1% reported in november. right? if sticky inflation. november core cp pix, all right, so let's talk about core cp pix. it actually saw its first drop below 4% in nearly three years comparing it, coming in at at 3.9% compared to the previous month's 4%. so that's good news. coming down. but still a little too warm for comfort. federal reserve bank of richmond president if tom harkin, who will be a voting member later this month, told the virginia bankers' association today that any improvements on inflation are still pretty narrow, okay? incremental. and he said they're focused on

goods. what about food? i mean, we saw food, we saw shelter jumping pretty dramatically. and then cleveland fed's loretta mester, who becomes a voting member in a year, took it a step further, dousing the market's hopes of multiple chops to interest rates a little bit with a pack of ice in the face say, quote, march is probably too soon for a rate cut. but wall street still optimistic. fed funds futures showing a more than 60% chance of a rate cut come march. we shall see. not only do we get another inflation metric, as cheryl mentioned, with the producer price index tomorrow, but earnings season unofficially kicks off with the big banks friday. united health group, delta all reporting in the morning. we've got to show you live trading in bitcoin etf ifs and bitcoin. all right, it was in this hour yesterday that we were the first to report that the sec had finally aa proved all 11 spot bitcoin etf applications for

3:06 pm
cboe, the fidelity one, the ark invest, the vaneck, they are trading with massive, massive volume with. the fidelity one has over 15 million in volume, the ark over 5 million if in volume. so, you know, the are resense at least on day one -- reception at least on day one here has been robust. i would expect that to continue. and i think the what's going to be very interesting is down the line and maybe not so far off in the future here, perhaps watch for options to be traded on some of these etfs. liz: options, okay. so as we watch all of that, let's bring in dutch masters here. dutch, i don't know, the tow is starting to wobble a little bit -- dow is starting to wobble a little bit, now it's up just 5 points. give me a sense of what the market really wants. we got the cpi number, it's not exactly a drop of dramatic proportions. the markets are like a toddler that wants a cookie, another one. is it going to get it it with the rate cut? >> you know, i think the market

trader dis, says that he thinks eventually that stock's going to be at $100, and it's at $20 today. liz: you've got some consumer names in there. >> oh, yeah. what finish we really like is the theme that if we are going to have a difficult environment from the economy going forward, saw -- that, you know, you have to have demand for your product. and we think that elf, which is in the beauty business, lululemon which, of course, women look at is and and say, hey -- and men now too -- can hey, that's my brand, i love that, they really don't have a problem with the pricing. so we like those. i know they're very expensive, right in. [laughter] liz: well, that's what you want. you want a company that has that moat of competitiveness where people will e pay for that particular product. scott bauer, give me a sense of the volatility, because right now it's almost nonexistent, and it continues to be so. how long does that last with the overall markets when we're flat on the dow at the moment but 20 points of gains, we're with at another record?
3:09 pm
>> yeah, it's very sub doored -- subdued, liz. right behind me in the s&p 500 options pit here, if you look at the money implied for tomorrow, it is a little bit extended. that's because with we've got the ppi number coming out tomorrow, so it's about 12, 13%. but that plummets if you go out to next week and we do have a holiday on monday. that's down in single digits. that is very, very low in the spx. that correlates to what we're seeing in the vix now, the january future which expires next wednesday, it's trading right about 13. certainly not as a low as it has been, but the market is very complacent right now. you guys were talking about, dutch was talking about how, you know, the fed is probably not looking at the six moves that the market is anticipating. something has to converge together here, and i believe that we're going to see vol starting to tick opportunity right after the beginning of earnings season here as we get a little bit more uncertainty and
