have walmart reporting this morning obviously should be a great read into how the consumer is doing are they buying less volume and higher prices but would you look at recent data and go back to last week consumer sentiment fell off a cliff and then you come into yesterday all the attention on cpi slightly sloping month over month by retail sales auto and gas down 0.1% month over month it seems like the consumer is weakening and i would love to get your take on that. >> i agree the consumer is weakening although we see some companies like sweet green and shake shack putting up good numbers these will moderately priced restaurants and i think we see an interesting market where the consumer is taking trade-offs in some of the retail areas, we are also seeing a mixed record in some of the tech

companies that are performing well in the number of tech companies that are growing revenues and expanding margins. i agree consumer discretionary, that may be an area that is choppy in a number of companies that were monitoring consumer discretionary psalm are way up but we also see some results in it and healthcare and uc growth stories here into your point the smaller company in consumer discretionary companies have not performed well in terms of performance we see those and overall the smaller companies which recently came back negative until recently. maria: is something he would allocate capital toward big tech and growth? >> growth has been really strong and had a strong run so you show the cues up of about a half percent and our funds are up 18% of our embassies are higher and

your assessment but i'm worried about the messaging, you know the mainstream leftist media is going to take the nugget and say president biden is doing something about the border there is no reason to not vote for him in 2024 how do republicans drive home the point and make it clear that joe biden has sat on the sidelines for three and half years while our country has been lost to illegal immigration and this is only a band-aid for the election. >> the good thing most people in the mainstream media don't trust him anymore and it's a very good thing in a common thing as democrats don't believe what you see, believe what we tell you this is way too little too late and the american people have really decided joe biden is a disaster when it comes to her border and anything he does from now on doesn't mean anything it's windowdressing i don't think they gained any traction with us whatsoever.

>> the risk is high and dry if your investor said the risk reward has gotten worse i think it's true for most american companies and remember when you say investing in china we bank 500 multinationals around the world and china and we follow all american laws so americans have to set foreign policy. i employ the fact that the government and china are talking there should be tough negotiation around trade. maria: it is set at the white house level. janet yellen was on pbs news hour this week and i have to get your reaction she's talking about the tariffs that joe biden is putting on chinese goods comparing to trump because trump was tough on china, she says trump's tariffs are taxes on the consumer but biden's tariffs are better because of targeted, do you see a difference between the tariffs.

>> girl section 301 tariffs and chinese goods coming into the u.s. and by the way janet yellen is smarter than that because she should know trump's tariffs, four fifths were picked up by the chinese government and exporters so the american consumer did not pay there was no inflation because of the tariffs, janet yellen should know that but what can i say, it's a free country she could say whatever she wants. maria: but she's a treasury secretary and this demonstration has not done anything to push back on china's behavior. all the sudden six months before the election we see the tariffs and she's trying to say they're different than the trump tariffs. >> i cannot agree more that it comes from the top and in capitalism and we push the laws as far as we can know disagreement with jamie dimon but i look at that and say this is a guide the top of the top and if he's not willing to decouple from china what are the rest of us going to do what is the rest of wall street and we have an obligation from a patriotic perspective to try to
