5:01 pm
most important. elizabeth: thank you so much, larry. let's take it from here. welcome to "the enoohing -- evening edit." president trump returns to pennsylvania for a rally in harrisburg tomorrow just weeks after the assassination attempt that almost took his life, but today we had major fireworks on capitol hill. acting secret service chief grilled about security lapses, seemingly unable to answer the questions that needed to be asked. watch this. >> my question is, why don't you with relieve everybody of duty who made bad judgment? so, yeah, you're right, i am zeroing in on somebody. i'm trying to find somebody who's accountable here. >> i a acknowledge this was a failure -- >> is it not prima facie that somebody failed? >> sir, this could have been our texas school book depository. i have lost sleep over that a just like you have, and i will tell you, senator, i will tell you, senator, that i will not rush to to judgment and put people -- >> i can't believe that you

5:03 pm
there, a crisis intervention team, someone like a mike pompeo that would come in, take control of that secret service, turn the it upside down and start over. i'm just telling you, there's nothing this secret service director's going to be able to do right now. he cannot see the forest for the trees that he's not objective. he's trying to protect everybody's job. people should be at least placed on leave until we get to the bottom of this. elizabeth: you know, senator josh hawley tweeted the secret service director's testifying, you know, people made mistakes. he won't say who they are, won't fire anyone. they know more from whistleblowers than the secret service. real clear politics has been reporting based on anonymous sources that the acting secret service director was involved in denying more security resources to trump's rallies. why? >> yeah, i think that's one more question that he really either answered, he either lied about it or led us astray. he would not tell us who was responsible for denying president trump more security. he wouldn't tell us who makes
5:04 pm
the decisions to say, no, we're not going to use a drone. he would not say who drew the security line and left 10 buildings within direct line of the president. so even within days a normal postmortem on an event like this should reveal those basic stops to say here's where the basic mistakes were, these are the people that we've relieved of their duty, we've made these corrections to protect president trump at the next rally. elizabeth: okay. so here's the issue, here's what the concern is, there was bias against president trump inside the fbi when he was president. there's fears that alejandro mayorkas runs the secret service and is head of homeland security, there may still be bias against president trump. are you worried about that. >> absolutely. and this is why americans don't the fbi, they don't have faith in the secret service. are these political motivations to deny president trump his protection, deny rfk jr. protection? because it legitimizes them as a candidates for the president as
5:05 pm

5:07 pm
that came across the border. she has to take responsibility for her long history of being soft on crime as well. look, joe biden gave you $6 a gallon gasoline, kamala harris is going to give you $8 a gallon gasoline. we know we're going to have to work hard. the democrats have an endless amount of money, so the fight is on. elizabeth: senator marshall, good to see you again. that was quite a hearing. now we have got breaking news, an alarming new finding on the economy as we head into november. it is bad for kamala harris and bidenomics. a new gallup poll for the 29th straight month, the majority of americans rate the u.s. economy as poor, 7 off the 01 believe -- out of 10 believe the economy is getting worse. kamala harris released her first if campaign video, but it because not mention president biden at all, no images. and now a possible running mate contender, pete buttigieg, just damaged kamala harris on her key campaign point, abortion.

5:09 pm
they're about is, one, beating trump and identity politics. they want to center single issues and say this is what you need to to care about going into november. as a woman, i i know this can come as a shock to kamala harris, but i care about a lot more than just abortion if concern. elizabeth: and to say that abortion makes men more free is, frankly, disgusting and immoral to the say that. >>s. elizabeth: it is stunning that he said that. >> absolutely. yes. elizabeth: politico is reporting democrats are warning that kamala harris' campaign collapsed in 2020 because she doesn't have add a good answer about the issues americans care about like inflation, the border and crime. let's get your reaction to what voters are saying. watch this. >> how many of you know a black man who has expressed to you that they're committed to voting for donald trump? for the brothers who have told you that or said that to to you, has the emergence of kamala harris
5:10 pm
changed that? >> not. elizabeth: okay. so there you have it. that's voter reaction. i've got to back up. you know, kamala harris was campaigning in georgia, but, congresswoman, the new york times is reporting she's rapidly trying to backtrack and is flip-flopping on her far-left positions that are now coming back to haunt a her. can she pull that off? because, you know, the hill reports democrats are growing really anxious she cannot connect with working class and union voters in three swing states, michigan, pennsylvania and wisconsin. that's theired road map to victory, supposedly. >> absolutely, liz. i mean, she cannot hide the fact that she was the most liberal senator during her time in the united states senate. she cannot hide from the fact that she is tied to the failures of the biden administration. everything that she has been tasked with whether it was as the a.i. czar or the border czar, she has failed 100%, and she also has been complicit in the horrible cover-up of joe
