we dealt with in years past is this would allow us time and everybody understands allow us to continue the appropriations process we are committed to bringing 12 bills to the floor is a statutory law it requires congress to do, that is not been done in many years but again we are changing the way washington works we believe it is to be more accountable and more transparent for the people. we are going to fight that fight every single day and we will get the job done. shannon: i want to talk about social issues you have a lot of critics who say you're wildly out of step with the american people let's talk abortion first where the groups opposing you says this total abortion veil with no exceptions he supported bands h of not criminalize abortion but van ivf treatments and common forms of birth control you voted against access to contraception. where are you on these issues is that an accurate assessment of where you are because that's not in step with the american people. >> no, i am pro-life i have said very clearly i am a bible

believing christian i believe the saninthe sanctity of every e human life. i go to congress with deeply held convictions but so do my four and 34 collects in the house every when it comes to congress with their deeply held convictions about the process here is you make law-abiding consensus. i have not brought forward any to address issues our priorities are funding the government handling the massive security priorities that we have in crises around the globe and taking care of changes and reforming how congress works that's what we're going to do. prior to the modern time, until recently actually almost all of our nation's leaders openly acknowledge they were also bible believing christians. this is not something that should cause great unrest it's just washington right now what you are seeing washington and the associated press corps are engaging with a leader who openly acknowledges faith and the foundational principles of our country this is a healthy

helping the palestinian people is not just a good thing to do, it is a smart tactical move because what you want to do is separate hamas from the palestinian people. you do that by making it appear and make it a reality they can find some support, medical support, humanitarian support within the israel lines and they cannot find that within hamas -controlled territory. shannon: there's also hezbollah out that there's leaders speaking out saying the u.s. is responsible in part for what's going on in gaza we must be the ones to stop but they would overwhelm u.s. forces they're not afraid of our warships and those kind of things how worried are you about hezbollah opening a separate front to the north and about u.s. troops at any point being dragged into this conflict? >> first, the speech by the leader of hezbollah was not unexpected. second, we have moved in task

force groups to augment our deterrence efforts in the region i think they're very conscious of that particularly our antimissile capabilities which are significant and can prevent attack by hezbollah on israel and open up another front. i think also to is that we are trying as i said to help israel focus and refocus its efforts to be more precise in its targeting give less of a rationale so some people would attack israel on political grounds. shannon: you are among those who are publicly saying we do want israel to be more precise secretary blinken said to give them advice that a close friend would give them a keep in mind this is what we are hearing from a leader of hamas we talked about the fact the october 7 attacks were just the beginning he added this. we must teach israel a lesson will do this again and again. it is just the first time there will be a second, third, a

fourth because we have the determination, the resolve in the capabilities to fights. shannon: he would want to say the annihilation of israel. should any country be a lecturing israel in any way about how they deal with a group that's truly an existential threat to them? >> hamas is an existential threat to israel they make no bones about it as is that statt indicates very clearly. what israel is doing appropriately so is targeting hamas into degraded and then to destroy it we are helping them in that effort. it is somewhat reminiscent of our efforts against isis and iraq but what they have to do not only compliant with the rule of law but also winning the battle of minds and hearts is to do it in such a way they minimize the harm to civilians. that is what we're trying to help them with we want them to

get better intelligence we are helping them with intelligence we want that intelligence to inform selected targets of precise targets we want them to use precision guided weapon systems so they really hit the people they are going after. and we want them to also be able to show not just israel but the entire community wants to provide basic necessities to the palestinian people this would deliver a below not just tactically but also politically to hamas a goal is to end that threat to israel which is existenial hamas doesn't want to destroy the state of israel. shannon: us talk about aid you heard the speaker at the beginning of the showtime's israel stand alone aid is what he could get past in the house or it's different over in the senates. there is talk of again at lickig it together with ukrainian aid it's interesting the gallup poll shows americans are growing skeptical about providing unlimited continued aid to ukraine the number of americans in the u.s. is doing too much in

that particular conflict has jumped 12 points since trust in june. do you worry attacking those things together may slow down as ukraine is less popular the aid getting to israel in a more timely fashion? >> no i don't. on the senate side there's strong bipartisan support for aid not only to israel but you to ukraine immediately. ukraine is running then it's resources they are in the midst of a very serious comfort with the russians. the russians may have staged a major counterattack weeks ago their intensive casualties on both sides particularly the russian side. we cannot just step back and let time go by we have to support the ukrainians it is our interest and frankly what i was talking to secretary austin on the hearings of appropriations he indicated, which i believe he said if we don't provide these resources to ukraine right now, it raises the probability in the months and years ahead we will
