smoke over northern gaza right now just one day after israel and hamas had agreed to extend their cease-fire. israel says the terror group broke the deal. shocking. we're now waiting to here how it will affect the planned release of ten additional hostages today. heartbreaking. i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus." the israel defense force spokesperson announced that hamas has transferred a 10-month-old little baby who now we understand has turned 11 months old. remember, it has been 53 days, along with his 4-year-old big brother and their mom to a different palestinian terror group in gaza. that official says the intention is to use the baby as a human shield when the cease-fire completely ends. hamas has released only one american so far in its hostage

releasing and national security counsel spokesman said this yesterday. >> he has made it clear to qatar and prime minister netanyahu how strong life we want to see the american hostages get released. it's important to remember, martha, the only kinds of hostages that hamas is willing to let go right now are women and children. we think the majority of americans held hostage are male. we have been in touch with the families, of course, and making it clear we are trying to do the best we can to get information about their loved ones short of actual release. it is difficult to do. >> harris: as of today 51 israeli hostages have been freed after more than 50 days as captive. we are seeing many emotional family reunions now. right here the mom of one of the former hostages who is just 12 years old. that's her son. always her baby. and these children back with their family and their beloved

possibility of extending the pause in fighting, which is set to run through tomorrow. it is unclear if these explosions will impact today's expected prisoner hostage exchange. ten israelis are set to be freed from gaza. for 30 palestinian prisoners going back. four of the every 150 hostages being held in gaza right now are 10-month-old baby, and his 4-year-old brother and their parents. it is possible the boys are being held by islamic jihad. israel and the boys' family are holding hamas responsible. >> hamas is controlling there powerfully. i think in my opinion again that saying they don't know where they are is another way of stalling and buying time. >> harris, the white house estimates 8 or 9 american hostages remain in gaza, the

first of all, i know you have been throughout the course of things in contact with hostage families. tell me what you can share about those conversations and those who have gone free as well, whatever you know about them. >> harris, it is very hard for the families and people in israel. every day we get release of the people supposed to be released and even now if you are of -- we don't know if those coming to israel will arrive. hamas is a very vicious, cynical, terrorist organization and use psychological terror against our people. also the families. we spoke with the families that were reunited and heard horrible testimonials about the way they were treated. every night when you see the release, they look human because they escort them to the car but that's a show. that is a show. basically they are torturing our

people. i don't want to go into details of starvation and other things we heard testimony of. 12 years old that he was beaten up every day and made him see videos of the massacre of october 7th. we have know with who we are dealing and we are committed to continue with the war effort until we eradicate evil. we are doing our best to rescue as many hostages as we can but we never forget that the goal of the war is to eliminate hamas and we intend to do it. >> harris: just quickly there is this other palestinian group. it could be palestinian islamic jihad, we aren't sure because our own leadership at the white house representative of the president, john kirby, says that they don't really know who is holding or how many hostages they could be holding. what can you tell us about that situation? >> we expect hamas to be responsible for everything that is happening in gaza. they claim to be in charge so they bear the responsibility.

but we know that you have gangs, you have islamic jihad and different groups but in the past hamas when they wanted to achieve something, they knew how to enforce it. we expect them to collect hostages and to let us know about them. and also let's not forget about the red cross. we haven't seen one visit of the red cross to our hostages for 50 days. that's unacceptable. >> harris: that is almost unheard of. that is almost unheard of. let me get in with this. a bit of politics now. the progressive left of democrats here in the united states is now calling for so-called conditions on whether and how the united states would help our top ally in the region, israel. vermont senator bernie sanders last week said this. a quote ambassador, the blank check approach must end. the united states must make clear that while we are friends of israel, there are conditions

to that friendship and that we cannot be complicit that violate international law and our decency. the idea is gaining ground inside the democratic party. watch. >> i do believe that the level of civilian harm inside gaza has been unacceptable and is unsustainable. we regularly condition our aid to allies based upon compliance with u.s. law and international law. so i think it's very consistent the ways in which we have dispensed age especially during wartime. >> harris: if you think it stops there it doesn't. jake sullivan did not rule out the possibility of conditions over the weekend and neither did president biden. watch. >> mr. president, there are members of your party who would like to see conditions placed on aid to israel. what is your view of that? an adoption -- [inaudible].

>> president biden: i think that's a worthwhile thought. >> harris: ambassador, your reaction to it all? >> that is shameful to hear bernie sanders. maybe he should look back at what happened to us on october 7th to see the raping, the kidnapping, the massacre. we're still identifying the bodies of the people who were burned to death while they were alive with their families. we don't accept that. we know the majority of the american people stand with us. support us, pray for us every day and we appreciate that. and in the same way the u.s. fought al qaeda, there were no conditions for that. you fought al qaeda until you eliminated them. that's what we intend to do and we know that the american people, the american spirit is with us despite the voices you just showed. they should be shamed on themselves. >> harris: it is interesting because some of those voices are sitting members on the hill, capitol hill and congress. while the people may want one thing those people on capitol

there are no words to sum up what could happen next because we don't know. tell me presently what is happening? >> yes, currently we're waiting -- we've been waiting for the fifth day to see his name on the list of hostages to be released. he is still not on the list. there is still tomorrow and we are hoping that he will be on the list tomorrow. but it has been very agonizing to wait day after day and over 50 days of him being in captivity and knowing nothing as to his condition or well-being. >> harris: i know that his father watched that proceeding. do you know the details of what happened when he was taken? >> yeah. so he was kidnapped on saturday morning the 7th of october, which was also a jewish holiday. he was at home at his mom's home with his two younger sisters who

are 12 and 10 and he was 15 when he was captured. he turned 16-year-old in captivity. and his mom and sisters were left behind because there was no space for them in the car that he was taken in. and so while the terrorists were waiting for another car to take them back to gaza as well there was a distraction caused by gunfire. the terrorists went to handle that and the mom and two sisters took that opportunity to basically escape. >> harris: i know that there was some texting going on with a group of his teenage friends in the kibbutz there as hamas attack was unfolding. i understand that you have translated some of that from hebrew to english for us. i'll read it. at 10:38 that morning, at my mom's urgent. they are shooting and knocking at the door. also 10:38, seconds later.

they're about to break it at any moment. 10:43, they are shooting. el. >> yeah. so it was over a period of about an hour and a half some frantic texts from him and also 13 to 17-year-olds in that group chat. people are reporting their house is burning. they can't breathe. in fact, there are a few names in those text messages that i know are kids who were killed or murdered on that day. and you can tell the spelling is all jumbled and you can tell everyone is very frantic. >> harris: i will ask my team to continue the text line if they can. so at 12:16, some time passed and at 12:16, we need urgently house 112. they broke in. there are terrorists in my

house. this is now happening sporadically. the last few texts were at 12:17 and that was the last anyone heard from amit. you say you are waiting for his name to appear on a list. no doubt where you are, you are ahead of us in time. you know that two-day cease-fire didn't hold for more people to come out. >> yeah. we're very happy for every single hostage that is being returned. for every returned hostages there are hostages still in gaza in unknown conditions. the vast majority of those that were taken that day are still there. including amit. >> harris: what is the conversation like right now with your family just in terms of how much information you are getting from the government? what kind of support? how supported do you feel? >> not very supported because there is not much information to

poll numbers and the fact that he is currently placing behind any republican opponent, has there been any talk in the white house about the change if strategy or staffing going forward? >> no. >> why do you think it is when you say the economy is improving and president biden says the economy is improving that a majority of americans outside of this building are not buying it? >> we understand what americans have been feeling over the last 2 or 3 years. it will take some time. we actually had to fix the problem that we saw that the last administration left us. >> harris: in other words, they don't care how americans feel. they want you to play by their game. the game she is playing is the blame game. a recent "wall street journal" poll finds faith in the american dream has cratered under this administration. only 36% say it is now achievable. that's down from 68% last year. this is not helping.

>> they've come up with a policy solution, they call it bidenomics. only 37% of americans agree of joe biden's handling of the economy. when you think about the fact that inflation peaked in june of 2022 at 9.1% but yet prices are still up 18% over 2019, we have a tremendous problem in this country. a lot of people get their wealth from their homes. a mortgage you will be looking at 7% versus 2%, which it was in recent years. we're in a terrible set of circumstances in this country. joe biden deserves the blame for a lot of what has happened because they continue to gas light and say his policies are working when they clearly aren't. >> harris: the blame game, okay. how about the responsibility game? why doesn't anybody take responsibility and accountability for the things he has done? he has been in office for two years. who else could have done it?

a possible third-party presidential run is really worrying the influential center left group. the third way. the group's co-founder matt bennett pushing back on claims by senator manchin and the no labels claim that a third party would not hurt joe biden and would help donald trump. bennett says no labels leadership appears to be the only people on the planet earth who think they can win. one concern about a third-party run on a scale of 1 to 100, it's 100. >> at this point, i think joe manchin would be a very weak candidate, probably would hurt joe biden as a democrat were he to run. really, i think what no labels and any third party needs is a fresh face. we've seen polls with robert f. kennedy, jr. polling as much as

really do know them best. all right. we'll move back now to what's happening half the world away. so remember not too long ago toward the beginning of the war with israel and hamas the explosion near the gaza hospital last month that many people around the world, especially some of those anti-israel protestors in the streets here, were blaming israel for. well, finally even though we've seen the evidence and we know what happened, a human rights organization with a long anti-israel history admits evidence shows it was likely caused by the terrorists. now, there is some confusion over whether it might be hamas or the palestinian islamic jihadists. that's a possibility. they're all terrorists. still, not a peep from the members of the far left squad on capitol hill. the democrats who make it their business to show us what they think we should do.

she posted support for israel on social media and attended a pro-israel rally. she reportedly hid inside a locked office before police could reach her and escort her out of the school. the school suspended some of those students but the city school's chancellor insists it wasn't as bad as it looks. hum. >> contrary to reports, the november 20th incident was promptly addressed and brought under control of the principal, staff and nypd. teacher was not in direct danger. we have taken disciplinary action against some of the students. >> harris: wait a minute. that was dozens of people but it wasn't so bad? alexis mcadams is in queens with more. alexis. >> some of the people who go to school here did think it was pretty bad. i talked to some of those students who say they were nervous as the school went on lockdown which they tell me happened quite a few times so far this school year alone.

where it all went down at the high school right behind me as you said those dozens of students going out into the hallway specifically targeting that teacher based on her support for israel. it was supposed to be a peaceful protest hijacked by im mature teenagers. >> they did it for their personal enjoyment and pleasure and what caused the problem. school property was damaged. certain individuals, they were mentally hurt. >> this is what it looked like last week inside the high school in queens. video blurred because students are underage. hundreds flooding the halls yelling things likefree palestinian and waving palestinian flags. things got out of control. no students were arrested but some were suspended. how did it begin? this photo of a teacher holding a sign that reads i stand with israel. it was shared on social media by students according to people we

the kinds of units that were required to quell that? it wasn't a protest from the video and what we've heard, it was a mob looking for her. so the only people they didn't call down was superman and batman to try to help. this is the kind of thing that gets diminished. this is not a problem. some of the students were suspended, which means there was ring leaders perhaps. it also brings into question that school, as the reports indicate, is 30% muslim and so is there a radicalization and would it be something like tiktok? what about those ring leaders? how old were they? what about those families? are they new to the country? we must find out what would cause in an american school a jewish teacher to have to be protected and have their school wrap their arms around her? what is the problem? it's not the jewish teacher but
