new sales through 2029. put that into context for us. i know it's the least ever allowed by an administration. what normally is the case for an administration on oil and gas leases in the gulf of mexico? >> well, normally the minimum is between 11 and upwards of 40 sales. federal production, will, accounts for 15-20% of our total oil and gas production, and so the administration has basically said we'll shut down 1 out of 5 barrels in future production. imagine if that -- if they said that to the agriculturalling or manufacturing sectors. imagine if they said we'll take one out of five airplane flights and take them offline. it's going to have dramatic economic consequences, and i don't think people realize how badly this is going to impact them. will: just to clarify, when you say it accounts for one in five barrels of oil,ing 15-20%, is that offshore drilling at large or is that gulf of mechanic coe specific? >> well, there is very little, if any, offshore drilling outside the gulf of mexico, so

this actually impacts just in the gulf of mexico itself 15% of our total production. one offshore platform produces the energy equivalent of dozens and dozens and dozens of wind platforms. it's a different type of energy as well because it has different uses. so we're producing manager that has long value versus just independent electricity like wind farms. will: and that's the move, isn't it? the biden administration, i believe it's going to allow for more wind activity in the gulf of mexico as part of this, reducing down to three new oil and gas platforms in the gulf of mexico, increasing wind? many. >> correct. the reason why they're actually having to do this sale because the i.r.a. bill forced them to do that. if you want to do offshore wind, you have to do offshore oil and gas, so they're doing the bare minimum. they don't even deserve a participation trophy for something like this. they're basically phoning it in. will: by the way, just to clarify, that's the inflation

reduction act. remember? designed to reduce inflation. and here you see the effects. it's to do the bare minimum in allowing new fossil fuel production of energy. and you alluded to it, tim, several times, one in five barrels taken offline, what economic impact does that have. well, some indication. here's the price of crude oil since the biden administration took over for west texas intermediate, it went from $52 a barrel, it's up to $72, til. >> yeah. and the problem, will, is these offshore leases take years and years to develop, so this has a really, really long tail of impact, how it's going to impact consumer prices well into the future. we have to have a rolling leasing program, and the administration let the prior one expire, and this is going to have impacts 7, 8 or 10 years down the road, unfortunately or, for us. will: and just to put a button on this, we did this story yesterday, we've talked about it on a weekly basis, the number of ways in which fossil fuels from coal to oil and gas has been, i
