more conservative contender to first place setting their nation a message but some say the caucus system can benefit an outsider like vivek ramaswamy. vivek ramaswamy joins us now from des moines. good bit see you thank you for joining us. >> good to see if things are going great here. >> how is it going? you are in the fourth place you've seen a lot on the ground. what is the reaction? what do you predict? >> the polls are drastically off. what you see as many supporters of my campaign in particular our first time ever caucus goers. many from the next generation. many traditional america first patriots that have not participated recently and a caucus and who have not been polled. so i predict a major surprise on january 15. i like where the expectations have been set it will shatter those expectations as going to propel me forward to the next phase of this race. i think a lot of the islands in

the final phase are getting into the details but is not just talking about the border and checking a box. the clear strategy for how we would actually use our military to seal that border. actually end birthright citizenship for the kids of illegal migrants and the return anyone who is in this country illegally. to their country of origin. especially in iowa right now about the specifics. through their dealt with the talking points they want detail what's show you some voters this issue last night i was watching you at a town hall. you stood up and took pictures with lots of folks what struck me as you had real conversations with them. you asked basically have you voted in a caucus before? maybe everybody you talked to said no. so what does it mean if you are bringing out new voters and people have never attended a caucus before exit means two things.

propping up super candidates. in my case my biggest donor is me i don't report to the establishment i report to the people of this country a lot of people here on the ground and iowa estate that goes first for a reason, understand that. we are on track to deliver a shock to the system. i think that will propel us forward not to just be the nominee biden said he was to reunite the country he did the exact opposite. a combination of the mainstream media to this administration they divided this country to a near breaking point. it is going to take a leader who is able to speak the hard truth. not just to the democrat but to our own party. too also reunite frankly both parties in this country as a whole. that is how we take our america first agenda to the next level. and i think i am the only candidate in this race i can do that. eric: you're talking my surprise the main street media.

underneath our ground and selling it. that buys down our national debt. then i went to ask a different question not helped cut social security but how do we increase social security benefits for many seniors especially in the next generation? here is how. forty years ago at the social security trust fund had been allowed to be invested in a diversified portfolio just like your financial advisor would tell you to do, stocks, bonds, et cetera, the average person plucks a few $800 per month toy would be collecting close to $18000 per month today. that would make a major difference for seniors across this country. no other candidate is talking about what it takes a leader from the outside who has been a ceo who actually understands basic arithmetic. to make sure we don't l make the same mistakes again. it is a false dichotomy to say we have to fight our national debt or we have to keep social security intact. i am the candidate has offered a clear plan for how we can do both of those things. yes, fight the national debt but do the right thing for all

americans. not to cut social security but many of the social security benefits are not even allowing the senior step basic ends meet. that is wrong and i'll stand for our american citizens by using basic common sense that our government has failed our people to apply. that's the kind of president we need that's all i will lead the country every republican can and orshould be on were bored with this. >> before it let you go what has this been like for you? you are out there in the cold out there for many hours. i've carried the iowa caucus many times is quite an exercise in american democracy. >> it is it has been energizing and inspiring redoing it together as a family but my wife as i mentioned is a throat version she's doing it this with me with our two kids i see patriots coming out who love this country that is when they come out to these events but that's what gives me my energy until it has been a rewarding process we will take it away with this for the rest of our life. hopefully over the next years in the white house propelling us to success. eric: vivek ramaswamy

desantis on tuesday, former president trump on wednesday. going to be part of the town hall audience we have a lot of people already signed up. you can go to foxnews.com. i have posted a way to get there on my twitter/x account. you can sign up it is free tickets. there's a qr code on the screen that's that nikki haley town hall. and each one will be separate. but you can go to all three if you want if you are and iowa voter. we have a lot of people already. we have a lot of great questions. and the key thing to answer your question is to get these citizens, these voters asking what they want to talk about that as with the iowa caucuses all about. it is small enough that people like to interact. they'd like to have candidates and their living room. new hampshire is a lot like that too so we are facilitating that in these town halls.

>> when you consider preparations and personality how might the three different? >> opposite the stakes are very high for them at this point. they are now just days away. interesting to watch vivek ramaswamy he's been on the trail in every county in iowa. this is an exhausting effort that they all put themselves through. no doubt the adrenaline is very high for this is her closing argument in these three town halls that brett and i will oversee and a moderate over the coming days. it's a great opportunity especially for people who are having trouble making up their mind at this point. they can get into the room they could do all three nights and ask questions of former president trump, ron desantis, nikki haley. and help to make up their minds. that is what i am hoping for these town halls we get interesting conversation back and forth. this is the home stretch. no doubt everyone is been very

stretched thin by this point it is a starting gate. the first democratic experience of the 2024 election. and in true iowa fashion, i've been getting ready myself to go but looking at the weather is going to be about 6 degrees on caucus day. really interesting town halls that have happened that became movers and shapers in elections. so i am looking toward that it was very interesting to hear vivek say is got a lot of people coming out for the very first time to caucus. we know the trump fabric to santos and haley working those folks are to get them out it's a big commemorative got to be the for the whole night of caucus night is going to be interesting to see if this time around more and more people start taking part of the process. we fed that set out to me too. brett, martha sucking with the one on ones that everybody does here in the news business and on fox news but i want to talk about you because you have had that amazing interview with former president trump in june. hey usually needs more corralling than others. so will you apply the same approach to him on wednesday night that you do to everybody else? >> yes, for the most part. you're right former president trump is unique on the way he

answers questions and deals with things and sometimes you have to get in on the breath. but this is a chance for him to answer tough but fair questions from iowa with citizens and also from martha and me. we will follow up. we will ask questions we will talk about the news of the day but the primary issue is to get iowa citizens to talk and ask questions but we should point out it's going to be a mixed crowd of people leaning one way or another. the campaigns do not get to choose who is in the audience they do not get to see the questions ahead of time. they never would. but just to be clear they don't. and it is questions from martha, me but most importantly the iowa citizens. we've already got a whole bunch, dozens of questions they are of the issues that we see in polls that are most concerning to voters heading into 2024. and i think this start, really kicking this off is going to be away that people get to see as you head into new hampshire,

the plane made an emergency landing in portland. no one was seriously hurt the federal transportation secretary investigators say it's fortunate no one was sitting in the row where the piece blew off they are not looking for that blown out panel. an aircraft door not needed by alaska airlines and made into a window for the plane is new, just a few months old. >> normally only see a rapid loss of cabin pressure we see this with the airplanes that have been around for 10, 15, 20 years that's usually the result of a fatigue from the takeoffs and the landings and the constant pressurization cycles on the airplane. so just speculating i would think there is probably something to do with those seals or something in quality control or something not seated right it is very strange this happened with the brand-new aircraft. the event complete coverage coming up next hour.

arthel: dhs secretary mayorkas said to visit the southern border tomorrow just days after the house homeland security communities first hearing over his possible impeachment. trento and it will get a firsthand look at conditions in eagle pass, texas a hot spot where border agents have been overwhelmed for months. senior correspondent casey stegall is there now and it will pass with more. >> hey arthel, nice to be with you. this morning we have seen another group of migrants crossing here in eagle pass. although it has been relatively small in size. about 50 or so people, nothing at all like the hundreds or even thousands that we have seen come across in the past. they waited to the chilly water of the rio grande and were taken into custody but we should also note that as we are out here our teams do see people entering the u.s. at the authorized port of

remove from the country these people already had their due process but henry has joined me and others saying this administration' is got to start removing those people because when you start removing people that because of the dead disincentive that will slow the flow down. i people coming into the country. >> here in new york there but i see hearings of some in new york at this congressman, 2035, 2035. she think they're going to show up 11 years from now? >> no. already the inspector general for dhs said last week we met with him more than 75% of the people that come in we have no idea where they are. and of those hearings you are talking about those of the are e secondary hearings the actual hearings in their case over 90% failed to appear they will come to the first hearing and make contact, why question mcdill get a document this is a can work in

arthel: concern is growing as flu cases rise across the u.s. let's take a look at the numbers. cdc estimates between october and december last year there were between 10 -- 19 million flu cases. at least 100 10,000

hospitalizations and up to 19000 flu -related deaths. experts fear cases will only continue to climb in the new year. so, how can you protect yourself this flu season (doctor marty mckay professor at johns hopkins school of medicine on a fox news conservative. so doctor mary, is this flu season worse than others? or are we mingling more? >> it is nice to see you arthel but does not appear to be worse than other flu seasons but the country has been oddly complacent about flu deaths each year we have got almost 5000 this year from just this flu season. they has not yet peaked in many parts of the northern united states inmate peak in february. we may see 15 -- 30,000 deaths in the typical flu season where the hopes of the pandemic was the silver lining is that we basically learn better hygiene. it should not be acceptable to show up to work coughing on people and slobbering.

and if you are sick you should generally stay home there's also the vaccines. so in this case i think the cdc director is correct when she says the numbers we are seeing with flu this year are pretty typical for this time of year but we should still take it seriously. arthel: if you got the flu shot can u you so that the flu? also if you have not gotten the flu shot is it too late? >> if you had the flu shot you could absolutely get the fluid the flu shot downgrades the severity of illness and some fraction of people get the flu after the shot may be half of the people that is considered a good match for the flu shot to the viruses circulating this year it is considered to be a good match. if you have not gotten the flu shot this is a good time to get it but right now about 45% of american adults have gotten your flu shot, and should be higher this is a very tried-and-true vaccine that's been around was a very good safety profile for over 50 years.
