we're the last men stand. the former president clearing 50% and the majority of the vote and running up the score with nearly every key voting group in communities across the hawkeye state. ron desantis edging out nikki haley for second place. giving his campaign a shot of adrenaline before they go to south carolina. >> bill: we have every angle for you, jessica -- alexis mcadams is in new hampshire, already. that's the next stop a week from today. bill melugin has the wrap from des moines in iowa. one last shot here from the capital city. hello. >> bill, good morning. for a little perspective how dome donald trump, he was 98 count eels out of 99.
6:03 am
the one he lost was by one vote. he even sounded complimentary of his opponents. >> i want to congratulate ron and nikki for having a good time together. we're all having a good time together. and i think they both actually did very well. i also want to congratulate vivek because he did a hell of a job. >> as for nikki haley and ron desantis they were neck-and-neck all night. by the end of the night it was governor desantis who ended up taking second place. he came in at 21%. actually over performed some of the pre-election polls that had him in third place. nikki haley coming in third place at 19%. desantis says with that second place finish behind donald trump, he punched his ticket out of iowa. listen. >> you helped us get a ticket punched out of the hawkeye state. i will get the job done for this

country. i am not going to make any excuses and i guarantee you this, i will not let you down. >> and as for vivek ramaswamy, he finished in fourth place with just under 8% of the vote. he announced last night he is dropping out. suspending his campaign. also announced he is endorsing donald trump for president. back out here live just to give you an idea how quickly the political winds can shift these days, vivek ramaswamy says he is going to be joining donald trump on the campaign trail at a rally with him in new hampshire this week. keep in mind, just a couple of days ago donald trump posted on truth social that vivek ramaswamy is sly, deceitful, not maga, and told people a vote for him is a wasted vote. send it back to you. >> bill: bill melugin in des moines. >> dana: new hampshire. this may be a much tighter race than iowa.

alexis mcadams has more on this nominating contest that happens a week from today. hi, alexis. >> hi, dana. a little snow here in new hampshire but it's a lot warmer where you are in iowa as those three candidates all head to the granite state. nikki haley came in third place there in iowa. she says she is still feeling very confident here in new hampshire. she will be out here today talking to voters. she says americans want to see somebody else in the white house, not trump or biden again. watch. >> iowa was very good to us and new hampshire will set the tone as it goes to south carolina. this is the process and what i love. it's a marathon, not a sprint. >> this all comes after iowa where they were on the ground for days. president trump and ron desantis and nikki haley will be here tonight. three are campaigning in the

granite state for weeks working hard to gain support. desantis spent so much time in iowa and so much money. nikki haley earned the endorsement of governor sununu. trump says he isn't worried about new hampshire. he won before and can do it again. people who live there say in order to win new hampshire you have to connect with the voters one-on-one. >> it's a small area. they don't really have anywhere to go. they look them in the eye and able to have these tough conversations and the customers do a great job at vetting them. >> some polls show gop race in new hampshire could be closer than iowa. look at the poll from last week. it shows trump leading among likely primary voters with 39%. haley second place with 32%. that's a 12-point jump from november alone. she is getting lots of steam out here and already on the ground.
6:07 am
live now here in the granite state as they work hard to gain more voters. >> dana: interesting to see. christie drops out last week. does she pick up some of those? when vivek leaves the race does trump take those as well? probably. let's get back to bill who is still on the board this morning. >> bill: we showed you this midnight last night. eight years ago in the republican primary in new hampshire. we made the point last night this is when you knew that trump's campaign from 2016 was legit. he doubled up on john kasich. even more so on ted cruz. if i could take you down memory lane, jeb bush, marco rubio who did well in iowa. that's chris christie. he has dropped from the race. who else we got? the results in the presidential level. he lost the state against hillary clinton by half a point. we'll go through all that in the coming week or so. let me go back to last night

quickly and show you what bill melugin was alluding to. trump 51%, a big number there. this orange mark here is johnson county. the university of iowa, iowa city, caitlin clark and the hawkeye women's basketball team doing so well. it's an interesting deal. nikki haley won it by one vote last night. you have that. the rest of the map is red. move across the room here. the full grassley, right? 99 counties, senator chuck grassley been doing it forever. twice when he campaigned in this state, he won every county except for one, and that was johnson county. that was in 2010 and 2016. otherwise he did it. the full grassley he won all 99 counties. >> dana: we'll have to keep you around, you are full of information and i love information and we love these

ladies with us, jessica and kelly and katie. fox news contributors all. here we are, kellyanne, kicking off the 2024 election not too far away. primary still underway. nikki haley says it's a two-person race. >> she is right. a two-person race between donald trump and joe biden. time to heal and unify the party the way ramaswamy and others in congress and governorships coming out to endorse donald trump are doing. maybe people see him as the unlikely unifyer but this is the will of the people. dana, whether you are in this business or in politics and more importantly government the rule of the people is the most important thing and they have spoken loudly and clearly. if bill is talking about one county, 1% of the state that went for nikki haley, that tells thetale. these races will come quickly. it's super tuesday and the trump

campaign has thought they could wrap it up by march 19th if not southeastern. he won the nomination may 7th eight years ago. this would put them in a position to focus. the question turns to the leadership in the senate. that has had a fractured relationship with the president over time. seven republicans voted to impeach him. a few of them are retiring or already did. the burden is on their shoulders to unify. look at the polling. this is last summer. donald trump was hovering around 50. ron desantis and flirting with 20. people who made up their mind a long time ago new how they would vote. eight in ten were for donald trump. this is important because he also changes the rules of the game. you can spend all the money and have the network and invest nine figures and still come up way

short. >> bill: katie, i want you to listen to vivek ramaswamy. we assume at some point today there will be an event in new hampshire and the endorsement will come. late last night. >> it is true that we did not achieve the surprise that we wanted to deliver tonight. i think that's just a hard fact that we will have to accept as a campaign. earlier tonight i called donald trump to tell him that i congratulated him on his victory and going forward he will have my full endorsement for the presidency. >> bill: that's a good outcome for trump. >> according to voter analysis ramaswamy brought in new caucus voters in iowa and capable of doing that in states that donald trump is going to be dominant in as we see moving forward. he can be an asset for the president. certainly with the polling president trump is far ahead and if you look at the second choice, lots of vivek voters are
6:12 am
trump voters as second choice and willing to translate that. that's not necessarily true for chris christie's voters going to a nikki haley or ron desantis. in terms of last night and looking forward, ron desantis visited every county in iowa. 99 of them and didn't win a single one. going into new hampshire down. south carolina nikki haley talks about going home. hopefully gaining momentum there. she is down by 30 points in south carolina so republicans are looking at this and saying they want an alternative but the republican base and republican party is with donald trump. when he was on stage last night you heard him talk about senators, congressmen being there. you had a number of people standing behind him and endorsing him coming out on the day of the caucus to do that. it is dominant. the whole strategy for alternative republicans they wanted to make it a one-on-one race. the field narrowed the math would add up to trump not being in the lead. still in the lead by ten points
6:13 am
even when you combine second and third place. >> dana: it is commanding and enduring. jessica, knut gingrich wrote that president trump is leading a movement. there is enthusiasm behind him. does biden have that? >> well, i think so. i think that list electoral record reflects it and democrats have been overperforming expectations. he doesn't have a special name. it is not maga for us but it is democrats and stronger together and moving forward and winning election. that's what the ultimate goal is. yes, will joe biden be remembered in history in the same way? probably not. he will be remembered in history as a winner and that's pretty important, too. what's interesting about this race and i've been saying for a while now, let's just get to the trump versus biden thing. that's what's going on here. it is rare to see two incumbents running against each other. donald trump will have to talk about his record and have to
6:14 am
talk about the four years after that and what he would have done differently and joe biden has his record to defend. to katie's point about the 49% of the electorate here who didn't go for donald trump. a lot will. they will back him up. nikki haley forties, 43% said they will vote for biden if the general electric shun is trump. how can he persuade those people he will be better for them with the dobbs decision and the biden campaign will make that a lynch pin of what they are talking about. >> bill: all great points. the next chapter. we would love that. folks back in new york would kill us. it's a very interesting point that you make. if that is the general election we're headed toward, you have a republican challenger who will be in and out of courtrooms for months and you have a sitting president who had two public appearances last week, two in one week while the united states
6:15 am
military is under attack overseas and that's a circumstance that a lot of people would not have predicted. >> two more appearances than the vice president. trump has a convention that will be spectacular. democrats are watching biden and harris bleed out and focusing on 2028. it doesn't look good for them. trump is dominating among independents. claiming more of the college educated folks. in 2016 we coined the phrase the undercover hidden trump voter. they are real. you have more people now who aren't going to tell everybody they are voting for trump not because they are embarrassed for proud but they don't want every night to feel with thank givings for the in-laws. >> biden voters. >> they're not hidden. we show up to vote.
