for nikki haley. but as you said, this is something that she's been wanting. she's been saying since coming out third in iowa that she wanted a two person race and how she has it. the big question is, is she able to actually build on this and form a coalition of supporters? um, you know, obviously what we saw in iowa 56,000 people in the state voted for trump. um that's not that many. and that's what some of nikki haley supporters are trying to say, like chris sununu of new hampshire. they're saying, look, a huge percentage of the republican electorate does not like former president donald trump. and so we got to give her a chance. but we are also are seeing a lot of pressure from trump's surrogates. folks on capitol hill. we're seeing steve daines of the nrsc saying, let's coalesce around former president donald trump. so a lot of pressure behind the scenes, for sure. yeah, a lot of pressure. and it is really a much, really really a much, rey exciting race.
1:01 pm
see what happens. samantha jo, stay with us. we'll have a lot more. as we have been reporting a sunday afternoon steinert shakes up the race for the white house florida governor desantis has dropped out of the republican presidential primary race 48 hours the polls open in new hampshire. this is continuing coverage of this bombshell political announcement here on f fox news channel. this is fox news live i'm eric shawn. arthel: hello eric, hello everyone i am arthel neville it is now officially a two-person race between a former president donald trump and former un ambassador nikki haley. this is a stunning turn of events fort desantis who was seen as the strongest challenger to trump when he first launches campaign for desantis finished nearly 30 points behind trump in the iowa caucuses and is pulling a distant third place in new hampshire. now he had planned to focus on
1:02 pm
the south carolina primary next month and said he would not continue to run if he did not see a path forward. madison has been following the desantis campaign. she is live in new hampshire with the very latest. in madison, i'm wondering if you have had any chance to talk to desantis supporter since a surprise announcement an hour ago or just people there in town? >> arthel, yes we have been able to talk to supporters there were hoping to come inside the barn or he was expected to talk in just one hour now. very disappointed the event was canceled. obviously and disappointed to learn their candidate is out of the race. what in fact be coming back to new hampshire's going to talk to voters here in manchester at 5:00 p.m. at 3:00 p.m. it took to x formally known as twitter to make this announcement asked if there is anything i could do
1:03 pm
to produce a favorable outcome, more campaign stops, more interviews, i would do it. i cannot ask our supporters to volunteer their time and donate their resources if we do not have a clear path to victory. accordingly i am today suspending my campaign. >> desantis there suspending his campaign shortly after that he also talked about how he promised he would support the republican nominee for president. and it said that would likely be trump he also said haley represented the establishment and could not hold that office. when it comes to desantis there is a a lot of confusion arounds campaign, really starting saturday night it's w of the speculation started around the future and that it might be short-lived. because his campaign canceled three morning show appearances that were scheduled for today on nbc, cnn and right here on box. his campaign said we are still in the spirit coming back to new hampshire to talk to voters at
1:04 pm
5:00 p.m. obviously that is no longer the case. now, where he goes from here is the next big question there are talks about 2028. talks about vp is a position he said he does not want to hold but, everything has now changed now that he is out of the race. when it comes to his voters and he started by asking what do they want to do? i think because the news just broke there is a bit of processing and figuring out what they are going to do it now that we are less than 48 hours away for the first in the nation primary. what we have been hearing all week long is that when you talk to someone says i'm going to support desantis they flip-flop between desantis and trump so you can imagine many of those voters will be going to the former president. i'll send it back to you. arthel: madison we will take it back here right now want to bring in shannon bream anchor "fox news sunday." shannon you know as the saying goes, follow the money if that's the case it's going to be interesting to see where the donors big and small former
1:05 pm
desantis donors where they are going to put their money next to her. >> there has been some criticism of him in recent weeks. some of those donors were already taking a look around at other people while he was still the thick of it still trying to fight you heard him say there i see no path forward to a lot of folks have already signaled we are done. we are moving on and you cannot keep the fights of the millions in tv ads, the staffing and everything else you need once the money starts to dry up i think desantis looked at the poll numbers here, looked at the pullovers in south carolina set up got to make a decision heard him say i do not want to ask anymore my volunteers are folks to keep working if i do not see a path forward. that begs a lot of questions what is happened with them because we talk about it rich edson hit on it last out where he started with such high expectations a 20-point win in florida a midterm year th that s not especially great for republicans there is not a red weight but there was one in florida. we talked to the governor many times about what was the
1:06 pm
situation with his campaigning sank look at might record as governor i got things done substantively he would then turn chewed president trump's record and say he did not give you the while he did not make mexico bayport he did not give you true freedom when it came to things like covid. our question has been did voters decide it's more about personality they are driven more by their passion then policy? ron desantis talk that up so much and it did not seem to land with voters on that question vice president weathered step in we joked last hour because it is funny sometimes to see a people end up together in politics but he has been pretty clear is not interested in that position. he said i got two years left as a governor florida i can have a much bigger impact there then i could and serving as summons vice president. he sounds pretty committed to that but will have to wait and see with how reality hits and the chips actually fall with the ticket that may come together president trump or nikki haley.
1:07 pm
eric: you're right we have to wait and see be make some excellent points there, shannon. talk about personality versus policy it didn't seem that on the campaign trail desantis had a personality problem if you will and that he did not really connect on that personal level with voters as you are shaking hands and kissing babies et cetera. but in terms of personality and confidence he seems to have the confidence still back at home as the governor of florida, they get him so to your points, it does beg the question of whether or not he will stick to his word that he will remain in that office and not take the offer should it come to him to be the vice president of the united states. shannon: is always interesting to watch this downward down to just two, nikki haley is going to have a strong argument she's been vepreventing and working op list because these two really do represent president trump former governor nikki haley, they
1:08 pm
really represent two different wings of the party that are sortedsortof at odds with each . as madison was talking about too, so many of the people he talked to on the ground work very much either in the desantis trump viewing them as similar in policy. liking the two of them. agreeing with the two of them and the other side of the voters the group of voters we talked to were very much nikki haley a fresh face a little bit different and foreign policy and some other issues. so where did those two factions settle out here quite sharply talk about the undeclared voters hundreds of thousands of them here new hampshire they can vote in the gop primary on tuesday, will they make a difference now that it's down to two? >> you are right the undeclared voters are not just in the states of the primaries they'rel over the country. they don't nikki haley for sure in the former president either they do not want either of these political trains to run out of steam at this juncture in this race for the white house.
1:09 pm
so shannon bream i note you will be covering all of the details on "fox news sunday." we'll be watching as always you will have more from new hampshire and the other primary and caucus dates for thank you so much shannon good to have you with this thank you. shannon: thank you arthel piglets a lot of experience in with primaries in politics the former speechwriter for president george w. bush. good to see you. your reaction to this? >> good to see you. not -- unexpected awaken this afternoon so swiftly protected nikki haley said and i went to o two-person races a few days ahead of the curve on that. what is fascinating to me is to look at how did a guy who just ran possibly the best gubernatorial race in american history overwhelmingly won independence, women, hispanics 20-point victory in florida turned around a few months later and run at one of the worst presidential campaigns in u.s. history.
1:10 pm
the happiest guy today in america is the title just taken away from him. [laughter] it is just a mystery but on the other hand it's hard to see if he would've run a perfect campaign with the result have been any different there just seems to be a lot of republican voters are looking at the last few years the look at trump having had much was first-term stolen by the mueller probe 91 indictments to impeachments of the 14th a memo to take them off the ballot there is about half the gop electorate who's we decided we are rallying around the sky giving him the second term that he should have had. and so it is hard to see because desantis was running -- nikki haley has the non- trump lane desantis was trying to take the trump plan away from trump he was ready for the heart of mag about what was available was soft and maga voters were separable because of electability issues and non- trump voters. he was seen to be trying to push trump out of his own lane and
1:11 pm
trump was not getting out of his lane that lane was not available to him and that's what he lost. shannon: by that reckoning it is your sense that most of the desantis votes will go to trump? >> certainly that seems to be if you look at a lot of the polls they show it desantis is a second choice of trump voters and trump is the second choice of a lot of desantis voters getting out now is smart for him because he has a 5% here new hampshire goes to trump avenue it turns out to be a close out on tuesday that could be the margin of victory could have helped deliver new hampshire for trout. and he positions himself well to be the successor keep in mind if donald trump gets the nomination he only conserve one term so win or lose on november 5 the race to succeed him starts on november 6. and ron desantis wants to be at the lead in that race. it is a smart room move for him to get out now and try to help trump and new hampshire piglets taken the long view waiting for
1:12 pm
2020 a potentially him i'm finally going to bring you back ute note new hampshire and surprises back to 2000 the primary, john mccain with the stunning win over george w. bush at that time. it was like 18 points that was a surprise of course we how that family turned out. but keeping that in mind what to expect on to s tuesday the same independent mainstream republican voters who have backed john mccain over george w. bush? could they come out and have it upset over president trump? >> they very could very well new hampshire is like to be predicted does not like to be pigeonholed. a lot of people are saying democrats are voting for her, independence is as a republican primary that's a sign of strength for nikki haley because how do you win an election by winning ovary she has crossover appeal how did ronald reagan went over jimmy carter's? the fact she can win over democrats and w went over republicans and motivate them to
1:13 pm
vote for her is a positive thing will see if it is enough on tuesday night. >> do you think looking toward the general election, that very argument will be enough to sway enough voters -- met enough of those undecided that are more democrats or republicans on that stage to switch them? >> there ought to be in the sense that joe biden's most unpopular president in history and donald trump if you look at the rcp average is beating him by one or two points which is a statistical tide nikki haley has multiple poles where she is when and by seven, eight, double digits. she has a case for electability. whether some polls show trump is winning a lot of republican voters say if he can win why not go with my heart? that's her think you're seeing in some of the decisions being made. c4 new hampshire new hampshire voters a live free or die as the state motto. good to see you. >> take care.
1:14 pm
before thank you. arthel: are an exclusive reactin from former president trump saying he is quote very honored by the desantis endorsement. and as we just saw alexis mcadams is following the trump campaign she is live from new hampshire so again, alexis we have you back there. we are getting reaction from the former president said he's very honored by the desantis endorsement. already the attack mode seems to be set aside. we will see where we go from here. >> arthel, that is right how things a change in politics it's only a matter of hours ago we heard more about the attack ads but now things are much different florida governor ron desantis is dropped out i just talked to him a couple times this week and he told me he was not giving up on the granite granitestate and was all in els9 counties did everything he could to an iowa, he felt sure they are the ground game shifted a bit i did asked ron desantis are you looking for an offramp here
1:15 pm
are a focus on 2028 to run for president then when he laughed it off, watch this. [background noises] maybe you don't have it. he did not put much stock in that he said he was not going to give up on the granite state here we were going to play that. he kind of laughed it off and said we need to get our act together here and focus on the issues we have as a party he is staying in florida tonight, arthel. they did not say he would not be back in new hampshire leading up to the primary. and as we talk to desantis on the ground we sat with him on a super pac bus the other day before he went back to florida he said in that interview, not so many bad things about trump he said trump has a very strong base a base we continue to see overlap. you talk to the support as they care about the border, the care about the economy the voters here new hampshire and in iowa we talk to them think both ron
1:16 pm
desantis and donald trump have this things in common. donald trump hammered ron desantis and everything you can think of people were yelling out some of those remarks to run desantis. it probably hard to not take those things personally but as we said things change he is now back the former president donald trump. he did also go after it nikki haley focusing his attacks on her pretty trump holds 50% support among likely republican voters here in new hampshire. his closest competitor right now former south carolina governor nikki haley she says that 39% that's according to brenda poll that just came out this morning here in the first in the nation states for the ongoing election cycle hear from among new hampshire's registered voters trump is by far the favorite there sitting at 67% though new hampshire governor is continuing to tell us he does not believe trump is a real conservative.
1:17 pm
he has endorsed nikki haley and believes she can do much better among the undeclared voters will have to see how that all fares out for it as you heard fox news at digital just talked with the former president a short time ago he said he is very honored to have the endorsement by ron desantis and looks forward to working together to beat joe biden. the rhetoric changing, the game plan changing here in the granite state will keep you posted i will be here on the ground. arthel: absolutely part a lot of changes between now and the next several hours for sure as nikki haley and donald trump fight to win new hampshire. although trump has a lead right now it's not over until it is over. all right we will take it back here alexis mcadams thank you. eric: if we have been reporting the florida governor's exit means it is a two-person race between mr. trump and nikki haley put exactly what the former un bachelorette hope for this week and she has been sharply criticizing the former president we are likely going here a lot more that of the next
1:18 pm
48 hours. bryan llenas is filing the haley campaign he is in new hampshire that is where ms. haley broke the news to her supporters it was her 52nd birthday yesterday so i imagine ron desantis unexpected gift to her and her candidacy to get it down to two-person race. x hey eric, former governor nikki haley her campaign have made this a two-person race at least in their campaigning on the trail they wanted nothing to do with talking about governor ron desantis and now the two-person race is here. in terms of what nikki haley said when she heard about the announcement, this is her reaction in seabrook, new hampshire to support us there in a restaurant, listen. [applause] >> you are going to win. >> wheat just heard ron desantis is dropped out of the race. [cheering]
1:19 pm
[cheering] and i want to say to run he ran a great race. he has been a good governor and we wish him well. >> the haley campaign just said in a statement from haley yourself it reads like this, ron desantis has been a good governor and i wish him well so far only one state has devoted half of its vote went to donald trump and hap did not we are not a country of coronations, voters deserve a say whether be good down the road of trump and biden again or we go down a new conservative eroded. this idea of new generation is something she has been pushing heavily here in new hampshire she just turned 52 years old yesterday. she talks about trump's age at 77 and the president's age at 81 she has been telling voters about this over and over again appear to think she's also been talking about we question dirk here about an hour ago about
1:20 pm
this and that is the poll numbers that show she does very well with undeclared or independent voters but does not do wellin new hampshire and otherwise of the republican voters we asked her about this and this is what she told me. >> what i am saying is we need to be a country where we are bringing people in not pushing people away that's what i'm trying to do i am a conservative i was a tea party governor i was a tough un ambassador we have conservatives that are supporting us to am not worried about what a poll says i'm worried about what the election say on tuesday. >> the boston globe endorsed haley today. and in that endorsement it said it wanted people to really take part in this race particularly those independent and undeclared voters it urged people that were may be inclined to vote in the democratic primary to actually vote in the republican primary because that is the race that
1:21 pm
matters according to the boston globe it says quote you have an opportunity to help save the country from the alarming prospect of a second donald trump presidency so what happens here in new hampshire? we will see with desantis dropping out is it possible undeclared independent voters get more enthusiasm to go out there and vote against the former president and for haley? that's the big question here in the next couple of days. eric: that is in their 48 hours to do it brian thank you so much. samantha joe is here with us, samantha joe good to see you again let's pick up a point brian just made the contrast what dismissed haley have to do now to contrast her to president trump based on age, we saw her attacking his quote mental acuity he buddies up with dictators to be what more of the same of this type of chaos that his presidency brought or do we want to look forward? that is what she says, how will
1:22 pm
that play what we see it? >> that definitely has her closing message issues talk about generational change. she's talking about bringing back stability instead of that chaos that seems to follow former president donald trump is a line she's is over and over again. we also heard her talking about who lost the general election who lost the white house who lost the senate. these are all lines of things she is saying we have seen her go after four president trump a little bit more in the last couple of days that we have seen throughout this entire cycle. i will note in some of her town halls it does take her a while to even speak about him. i was watching one on friday it took her seven or eight minutes to even mention him. she is sort of using governor sununu as her attack doug he is someone who has been out there
1:23 pm
talking more about why it trump is a danger to the country in his view. it will be really interesting to see if she does go on the attack a little bit more. her campaign has been a bit guarded with her as we have seen through out the cycle. she does not do a lot of pressing goggles she has not been answering a lot of questions from voters. has that been working for her? perhaps. we'll see in the next couple of days at that strategy is going to change or not she does have an opportunity to counter some of the strong excitement and enthusiasm from the republican electorate with the independent voters in the state of new hampshire that we know are so critical to the states and makeup but beyond new hampshire, what is it look like for her in south carolina state that looks a little bit more like iowa? it is her home state we are watching trump as he is touting all these different endorsements from figures in south carolina they are trying to play it off as if it's not that big of a
1:24 pm
deal. whether it is, is a nether question. >> it's an interesting look at the breakdown of the iowa vote basically the former president got about 7% of all the registered voters in iowa. in iowa with her seven or 52000 registered republicans 100 10,000 voted in the iowa caucus i think it said 15% of registered republicans and that the former president got about 7% and that sense some analysts think we could be a potential upset in new hampshire for ms. haley especially if you factor in some of the undeclared you think that's possible we could see another john mccain -type scenario? >> it certainly is possible in the granite state. the granite state has always chosen different candidates than we have seen in iowa. even when i was in iowa aside a lot of democrats who actually decided that day to change their
1:25 pm
voter registration and become republicans just for the purpose of voting for nikki haley. that obviously did not make a huge difference in the state of bio with the electric that we saw. they do have a little bit different rules are able to change your voter registration the day of the caucuses which is not the case in new hampshire they have to be a little bit more organized. but certainly haley does have that appeal with those independent voters potentially some of the democrats two. and as some of the reporters have talked about previously, haley does not have the same pole as ron desantis for example he and trump have more of the same electric than haley. eric: and to make clear democrats cannot just quit and vote in the republican primary new hampshire. there was an october 6 deadline if you are a democrat or republican that's when you have to choose your party registration was october 6. if you are undeclared you could be a democrat be undeclared you
1:26 pm
could be a communist and be undeclared you're just undeclared. you walk into the polling booth use i want to vote in this republican primary you register as a republican, walk-in vote and walk out you could un- register and go back to be an undeclared candidate you've got a lot of moving parts and uncertainty in dealing with this. about 4000 democrats change their registration as of octobeh about 4000 but the undeclared you are right they potentially could hold the key. will have you stand by as arthel goes to karl rove. >> yes karl rove on the phone former white house chief of staff karl, you and i were just speaking a few short hours ago and i asked you to tell me what was going on with the desantis campaign you said i don't know it's kind of a hot mess so at that in mind i ask you, are you
1:27 pm
surprised by this announcement? x not after they canceled the morning appearances on the sunday talk programs, no not really. if the decisions have been made better to get it done quickly and cleanly t than let it linger for a while. certainly better to get it done before tuesday because all the polls showed he was barely in double digits in new hampshire. so better to get out now and have a bad night on tuesday night and makes a mockery of his campaign it hurts him back on better to get out now and the fort minute video he did just that. >> yes and nikki haley is saying she is happy he is out of the way she has been wanting this to be a two-person race between her and donald trump and now she has it. she has been and is putting the full court press reminding everyone that hey listen i am
1:28 pm
they conservative i was a tea party governor. i was a conservative do not forget that and do you really want she's posing the question do you really want more of trump's bomb bash. what is it nikki haley has to do moving forward to stick? to make her message stick with voters in a special those undecided voters. >> first of all there not a lot of undecideds is a question of can she energize the states on registered excuse me un- aligned independent voters. eric was right about 39% the states electric not register with either party there is three to 3000 democrats and 298,000 republicans and the rest of the state 39000 but excuse me 39% of the total are unregistered with either party they can walk in and cast a ballot what she's got to be hoping is that group with which all the polling shows she's ahead two -- one that
1:29 pm
offsets the leads animal trump has among republicans which is about two -- one overall he is ahead by about 15 points the real clear politics average he's just over 14 points. those are averages which means and include poles that may go back to the middle of december. she has the momentum maybe she is closer than 15 points or 14 points but she's got to show up with a very close second or first placed finish to be able to go on from here. he's got a great victory in iowa but granted their weaknesses was absolutely right. it's the fact this is the lowest turnout in the iowa caucus since 2000 there 187,000 people who voted in the 2016. 122,000 voted in 2012 and
1:30 pm
109,000 or 319,000 voted in 2008 and this was 100 10,000. something was going on there with the lack of enthusiasm among some republicans are turning out to vote we will see what happens in new hampshire. but this is probably the last great shot nikki haley has to move ahead and it will affect contest on the light if she does and if she doesn't know it will affect the contest on the line adversely to her. arthel: next up is south carolina so even if she doesn't fare wellin new hampshire do you think she will stick it out through south carolina? it is her home state too. >> it is her home state but we do have a very confusing situation in nevada between now and then. the state law sets up a primary state party rules have been organized so the day after the primary there will be a caucus in which the delegates will be selected which make the rules of
1:31 pm
the republican national convention adopted in 2020. but nonetheless is going to be confusing because nikki haley is running in the primary benefit run in the primary according to the party rules you can't run in the caucus donald trump is running in the caucus. she may fare wellin the primary but it doesn't get any delegates and he may farewell in the caucus which will have much much smaller turnout or should have than a primary and yet he wins the delegates will have that confusing moment before they actually show up in south carolina three weeks. >> nevada is strong for trump. this is why we have you to break it all down for us in plain speak we appreciate it, always good to talk to will talk to again meanwhile a political earthquake shaking up the republican presidential race less than two days before the first in the nation primary ron desantis suspending his campaign and endorsing former president

with the undecided not undecided but undeclared voters of new hampshire. you know your estate you got the independent streak you but john mccain over the top back in 2000 over george w. bush you can surprise the american electorate what you see happening with the shakeup in the race this afternoon? >> certainly this was good news for donald trump. haley has been open to make this a two-person race but this news is really good for trump desantis was only pulling about 6% hear his supporters mostly have trump is her second choice i expect that to go into trump's column which will make it all the harder for nikki haley. at this point what haley is hoping for is the polls are wrong and be there turnout among independents or undeclared as we call them in new hampshire's really high that's what her hopes rest on in this stage.
1:38 pm
currently trump's lead among registered republicans is even bigger than his lead over all. haley really needs the undeclared to turn out and vote for her if she is to have any hope of winning the primary here next tuesday. the issue for haley is even if she doesn't pull it off in a win in new hampshire where i would be surprised if not shocked if that were to happen is the term rain is pretty favorable to nikki haley it gets less favorable from here on in was states where in were independene more conservative than they are or only registered republicans can participate even if she wins here she has a tough path forward but she has to when he or she has any chance going forward break. eric: those undeclared voters. more than a registered republican or democrat. can you give us a sense there is an average undeclared voter? who are they?

they don't register in the democrat party who are they? how did they think? and how do you think the undeclared block could break? >> the undeclared vote here it runs the gamut from disaffected progressives who don't care for the democratic party to libertarians to those who are pretty moderate. this is an election where neither joe biden or donald trump are really popular figures even in new hampshire this is a state the average of the overall state population not talking about republican specifically is a pretty moderate libertarian leading state. with the independent voters in this state are looking for as a whole the true indep independent those who lean republican is basically someone other than donald trump to be the nominee to avoid a trump versus biden a rematch i don't think that's

what they are going to get but that is what they want to see in the primary. before ms. haley's strengths seem to be around the more urban areas the college educated voters how does that play out since you know the breakdown of the new hampshire voting blocs? >> is good for her in the new hampshire voting block and those are high propensity voters those were voters who tend to turn out in every election. that is certainly good news for nikki haley to have support among those demographics. the thing for haley as she is way behind in the polls right now 16 -- 20% depending upon which poll you look at and that is not a good place to be. new hampshire has been known to make some pretty wild swings late in the cycle part amy klobuchar on the democratic side in 2020 surgeon last few days that is what nikki haley is going to be hoping for there is a surgeon independent turnout or independence to her side, not
1:41 pm
impossible since there is no competitive democratic primary it's not like they're going to be channeled into the other primary. but that is what she was really hoping for it right now is a surgeon was independence. before finally former president trump talks about democrats voting as he pointed out octobeo change so if you are a democrat i knew it undeclared was octobea registered democrat just about 4000. this this propel anything to haley 4000 undeclared is not a huge number. i now do bear in mind a lot of people who say they are undeclared are doing so to keep their options open so they can vote in either primary they may still lean it democrat. it's possible there are people who typically vote democrat in general elections will still vote in the primary because they

are registered and have the right to do so. i do think the desantis vote is mostly going to go over too donald trump now so this is hopeful to him. the other big concern for haley is feet into the narrative of trump's inevitability he had the big win in iowa haley came in third period right now this endorsement by desantis just feeds the notion trump is inevitable and that if anything could end up depressing turnout which would be negative for nikki haley. >> estate as independence has its own mind and often times can guide the nation or surprises. professor, thank you for joining us. >> thank you for having me. >> right now we will bring an outnumbered cohost former white house press secretary haley, good to see you. and by the way earlier today and "fox news live" we referenced a

pole showing the undeclared voters in new hampshire the republican primary there that everyone is talking about and 41% supported the former president and 49 support haley. can we assume trump will gain more independent voters there in new hampshire? >> we will see. i think right now what everyone is looking out is what you have been reporting which is desantis dropping out. look vivek ramaswamy truck that i realized he was only bringing in about 5% give or take. however vivek ramaswamy dropped out after iowa on the night of the iowa caucuses last monday. since then there were three polls in each of those three polls showed donald trump a 50%% or higher so it appears that last little% of vivek ramaswamy went to donald trump it i suspect we'll see on tuesdays a 6% desantis was bringing and it's not all homogenous group there will be people who break off and stay home or go for
1:44 pm
perhaps nikki haley. you will see i think perhaps a bolster trump did a tail wind behind him i still think nikki haley picks up the independent vote. 40% of the state is the independent undeclared vote. but can she pull of john mccain numbers? in 2008 george w. bush was with independence so the big question for nikki haley is can you pick up that group that puts enough of a tailwind behind due to a clips the group of vivek ramaswamy and desantis voters that what i believe will be backing trump. >> at mr. plight if you will. nikki haley is already saying listen guys i am the conservative year old a t party governor. this is who you want to return to something that's more quote unquote normal in terms of the republican policy et cetera. do you think that particular message not only resonate with the independents, republicans in new hampshire but also going

forward because we have to look ahead and that is what she is looking at and everybody else ig trump has such momentum he will derail her train is sooner than later, what do you see? >> yes that is the big question. nikki haley in her home state now shows 52% supporting donald trump. so, if trump has a good night in new hampshire is very likely to have a good night in south carolina. the folks at nikki haley seen what i'm saying to her is this you now have a two-person race you have trump, you have nikki haley you're looking at super tuesday, 16 states coming to you and march. twelve of the 16 states allow independents to vote. if you have a good showing in new hampshire you are still likely going to lose her home state, no one wants to lose your home state you are looking at super tuesday where it is eight two-person race in 12 of the 16 allowed independence devotes. the trump momentum is huge
1:46 pm
especially if he gets north of 50% that would be a big deal just a winning new hampshire to put it in perspective would be an enormous deal no republican present an open primer has won both iowa and new hampshire since 1976. so it just winning is big. winning majority is big but nikki haley may be and that's for the long haul she's one of a two-person race that's what she is called for now she's got it and can she capitalize and make gains on the two-person race? >> you mention super tuesday. so far we have been focusing on new hampshire and iowa but super tuesday is a different ballgame. do you think abortions will come back into the forefront? that is something that is on the minds of the independent voters. let us look in a republican primary yes among the independent group, yes but make no mistake abortion is going to be one of the key issues. remind eve were number one numbr two or number three republicans

earlier and he was saying based on the fact ron desantis admitted he sought no path forward it was the right time for desantis to get out so as not to make a mockery of his campaign or his supporters, what you say? >> he did not have a path in a nomination that's exactly what he did drop out it came in second and i was going to finish third in new hampshire. he is on track to finish third in south carolina. there really isn't a path forward when a candidate cannot win a primary or, pretty darn close and he has just not there that's why he is out. he hoped to be a two-person race between him and trump that may have helped coalesce the non- trump republican voter around him. she is so far ahead of him and new hampshire even though she's not likely to win on tuesday she became the person in the two-person race which is where we are right now. >> what do you make of where we are right now in terms of the

wind behind it nikki haley sale versus that of donald trump's sale question ricky seems to have more wind behind his sale for the moment what does nikki haley need to do at this time to propel herself further and perhaps it even more ahead of donald trump? lexus definitely pumps energy into his campaign. she still has the same problem that desantis has and that she is not donald trump. she is behind by 15 or 16 points in the tracking polls or i am and new hampshire. she will come in second place most likely. say she doesn't win, that so they went up and the race at least temporarily. if she gets really close within single digits to the former president, that would bring a little excitement to the races. she is trailing him pretty big time in south carolina in double digits that it' is her home sta. where does she go from new hampshire? at the same we go to every prime at this got to be a pathway in
1:55 pm
getting 1250 delegates. she does not really have that pathway but there is some excitement in her campaign. there is an opportunity for her to generate more excitement and perhaps start something and bringing people along who are dedicated to trump right now. it's very hard this is a historic and unusual campaign to hperform present writing like this. not as the incumbent but as the former president that he is just a runaway favorite. she is the closest this far with a 16-point difference in new hampshire. and now that it is a two-person race it is definitely additional excitement for her and her campaign. and that means something. this that mean she's going to win question at the odds are long but it does generate excitement and possibilities for her campaign. arthel: what are the odds of bringing over some of the desantis voters into her camp and perhaps pulling from some of the independents who might have
1:56 pm
been looking at trump to pull them into her camp as well? >> it is a two-person race. i don't see that happening as much because the trump base is so dedicated. i don't see a lot of crossover she's generating excitement with the voters the ones i've talk too. they're very interested in her. some of them still plan to vote for joe biden but they want to come vote for nikki haley because they do not want trump on the belt they see their vote as strategic it's very interesting here in new hampshire how people vote in these primaries. she also has a lot of enthusiasm for independence to see themselves not as one a party or the other but just into the policy and the personality. they really, really like her so i think she will do variable independent voters. that could be fortunate for her in the future when their independent voters in the future primaries. arthel: susan, for those of us of closely watch this and what's happening today will make a lot of people who weren't paying
