♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ >> ainsley: good morning to earn. we are all here in new hampshire. we got here over the weekend. lawrence sat down with donald trump. he is now at the diner. you spent the day with nikki haley. we will show you those two interviews. lots of guestst coming up. sean hannity and sarah huckabee sanders and you just heard bishop guertin marching cardinals. performing live. i talked with some of their parents. we said it's 11 degrees outside. they should come inside in between their shots. the parents said we will. we will pull them in. but you do realize that we raised them all in new

hampshire. they are used to the cold. >> brian: they are tough. they don't make any excuses. meanwhile, lawrence, donald trump with the 30-point win in iowa had some momentum heading into new hampshire. yesterday he got even more momentum, perhaps. >> lawrence: very passionate yesterday, talking with the president yesterday. obviously the big news is that ron desantis is no longer in the race. i had the opportunity, brian, to talk to him about that. and how he felt the way it was going to be forward, let's take look. >> what is it about your message that the people still, even though your former president said we want trump back. >> we had tremendous success. most successful success in the history of our country. biggest tax cuts ever. biggest regulation cuts ever. we rebuilt the military. >> lawrence: on day one joe biden ripped up the border. >> terrible. >> lawrence: put regulations back in place. what's a day one like of a trump presidency part 2? >> okay. number one we are going to have

the same border. even stronger if possible. we had the best border in the history of our country. we are going to have that within 30 days we will have that back. have all the people ready to go. so the border and drill, baby, drill. we will get rid of inflation very quickly. we are going to be drilling like you have never seen before. and start paying down debt. because we have more liquid gold under our feet than any other country in the world, including saudi arabia and russia. so we're going to take care of that take care of crime. we are going to rebuild our cities. we have so many great things we are going to be doing. the first two things i'm going to do is the border. and energy. because energy is so big. it solves a lot of problems. it solves the wealth problem. we are in new hampshire. new hampshire for whatever reason, has the highest energy prices anywhere in the united states by far. i promised them within one year their bills will be half. that's an easy promise to make. >> lawrence: one year? >> sure. it's an easy promise to make.

>> lawrence: you know, guys, i set the question up to the president with the analogy i gave y'all after election night, caucus night in iowa. i said, mr. president, i told my co-anchors that you are like the ex-boyfriend. you had ron desantis, you know, making promises, giving flowers, whiwining and dining the americn people. they thought he was the most popular governor. people still want their exspace back. donald trump. he had a record to run on, guys. bitterly cold. when you break down iowa. essentially donald trump got 7% of registered republicans. they are suggesting they could

break a record for the number of people who turn out for a primary, could hit 320,000 and a lot in play with the independents. and we have got some polls to show you. there are a million polls out there. one the arg poll came out showed nikki haley down by 2. others show donald trump ahead by 18, 19, 20. so we have got a couple more polls and watch how critical the independents are going to be here in new hampshire. >> ainsley: this is the "the washington post" monmouth university poll. this shows you if the g.o.p. primary for president were held today, who would you vote for? 52 percent said trump. 34 percent said nikki haley. and 8 percent said ron desantis. he was still in the race when this was taken. >> brian: real clear average is 54, 37. opened up to double digits last week it. seems as though people looked at iowa and said that momentum

instead of trying to correct iowa, they might be trying to build on iowa. all comes down to the independents and undecideds are the ones that registered in october to vote in the republican primary because joe biden, i think, foolishly decided that new hampshire was not worth his time. but, among independents, this is what governor haley is counting on. 73% of independents vote for, 25% vote for trump. trump has got 20% of the independents. and desantis has -- it doesn't really matter now. >> steve: the key is -- here's the graphic. this is easier to understand. according to this poll from cnn, haley with independents right there and that's a little different than broken down. democrats at 73%. and donald trump has 25%. for the most part. lawrence, go ahead. >> yeah. it's become an issue in this

race even you have politico that just released an argue and it details the plan to give independents and unaffiliated voters to vote within the republican primary. and in there there is an organization that is a liberal group have a website called primary pivot. they teach you if you want to change the outcome of the election. how to do it and click in your state and encouraging you to vote for nikki haley. so, again, this has become an issue in the republican primary because the question is although they may be registered as unaffiliated, as you independents. that is democrats. how is that going to impact a republican primary. >> brian: haley does better than biden and trump. the theory is they want donald trump to be the nominee. that's why people would vote in this primary and try to length it out a little bit if you want

trump to be a nominee. never seen such an offensive on legal cases between the 91 charges, the four indictments between the array of sudden civil trials. that doesn't seem like a group of people that wants to. >> ainsley: donald trump's base want to give him another shot. it's not that they don't like nikki haley or ron desantis. both of them are completely qualified. both of them are very conservative. nikki haley might get more of the independents. she might get more of the women votes. they're all wonderful candidates. when we watch those debates, we kept saying that. this is who the republicans have to choose from. look at the other side. all they have to choose from is really biden. who, you know, can't put sentences together. so, ron desantis ran this amazes campaign. he hit 99 counties in iowa. that's not easy to do. he has quite a resume. he is a great governor in florida. and it just might not be his year. but he is only 45 years old. doesn't mean he is out

completely. 2028, i mean, that could be anybody. >> brian: goes back to the court cases. >> steve: brian, a moment ago you made a great point that we should expand on for a moment. there are a whole bunch of independents here. and if you were a democrat, let's say, or a republican and you wanted to switch parties, you had to do it by october 6th. why did like close to 4,000 democrats people who wanted to have a voice in what was going to go on decided to do it. i saw break this down though. there were 3500. if the 3500 democrats who reregistered as undeclared, not undeclared as of last year. if they all voted for. >> lawrence: unaffiliated. >> steve: yeah. if they all voted for nikki haley, do you know how much that would increase her total? >> ainsley: how much? >> steve: about 1%.

so, essentially, and you have got all these independents, and there were a bunch of independents long before this, you know, the move to vote for somebody else other than joe biden. here in the great state of new hampshire there are 400,000 independents or undeclared or undecided. unlike the republicans have 300 and the democrats have 300. it's split right down the middle except the independents. that's the x factor that's what it is coming down to tomorrow. >> ainsley: when you sat down with donald trump ron desantis getting out of the race over the weekend. what was his mood? was he excited about that? >> lawrence: he literally said there is no water under the bridge. no more beef. he is getting ready to -- he has told the story quite a bit about him endorsing ron desantis and he did not like that it wasn't returned when he decided to run for re-election -- for president again. he was so calm about it and he

even called him a great governor. he negotiation look, there is not really that much different between me and ron desantis. he goes he just was disloyal in his opinion, against him for deciding to run after he thought that he was going to step aside and just let this play out. again, i think that's over. do you think that he could be vice president or a part of the cabinet? he goes that's probably unlikely but i'm not counting that out but he goes water under the bridge. >> one of the most powerful thing the president did yesterday sit with you. get all those south carolina lawmakers to appear with him and say look what's coming. even if i'm going to beat you here i'm going to beat you there that was reminiscent line up all the clinton women that he allegedly had an affair with at the debate. i just want to tell you the gloves are off. if you survive new hampshire this is what is waiting for new south carolina.

>> steve: regarding ron desantis, also the former president announced that he had retired the nickname ron desanctimonious wasn't going to use that anymore. >> i think ron desantis was asked whether or not he would campaign for donald trump and i think that answer has not been made yet. >> ainsley: he probably needs some sleep before he makes a decision. >> steve: listen, donald trump pummeled him for nine months. >> brian: $30 million of attack ads. >> steve: it's going to take a while before he shows up on stage. >> ainsley: he was up there on stage with the governor of south carolina with mcmaster. then he walked out on the red carpet and all these reporters were leaning over the gate saying ron desanctimonious are you going to use that nickname anymore? he said that nickname is officially retired. the whole crowd, all the reporters just started cheering. >> quickly on a serious note though.

think about how fast ron desantis got out and i think it's going to save him in the long run vs. ted cruz in 2016. you notice you don't hear 2016 ted cruz now in 2024. part of it is how long did it take him to get out and coalesce behind donald trump. so i think ron desantis had that in his calculation as well. >> brian: ted win iowa. >> steve: ted cruz won iowa but donald trump won here in new hampshire. >> the lyin' ted is tough to shake. >> ainsley: i was so proud of you for getting that interview. we will air that at 7:40. if you are just tuning in. we have trump with lawrence jones out there at the diner. >> who is the marching band waking up right now? >> ainsley: everyone here. let's see, we probably are waking up bret baier. probably harris faulkner. we apologize. since you are already up, will you join us, please?

with the sitting president. >> um-huh. >> brian: you were out doing the sunday shows about two months ago. why are you in and not somebody that you are supporting. >> i lost my father in vietnam. i'm a gold star son. he was one of 1 million americans gave their lives to this country. i thought here i am a member of congress. i see this train wreck occurring and somebody has to say the quiet part out loud. all i am is telling the truth. the same thing everybody in washington talks about quietly behind closed doors. they get in front of tv cameras and totally different ballgame. by the way on both sides of the aisle. someone has to practice democracy. if not me who? if not now? when? try to get others to enter the race they are sheepish. they would rather wait until it's their turn that's the problem in politics. >> brian: never been a problem before. jimmy carter was president. kennedy said i would be better and ran against him. gerald ford is president. i'm going to run against the sitting president. why is it a problem now? >> that's what i'm trying to understand. competition makes this country

better. that's what makes us different in politics and our economy. makes better outcomes and value and same thing here. i do understand most people in washington simply wish to stick around for 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years and don't do anything to get out of line. this is not my career. i did this to serve my country. i'm going to do it now to serve my country. >> brian: you voted with the president on almost everything. how would you be different besides being younger. >> maskly different. business person. very few people in congress who are. the president did some good chips act and infrastructure i celebrate that we have to invest in americans. healthcare, out-of-control. we need to build 7 million houses. education and affordable. food and fuel. i'm talking to new hampshire voters every single day who are desperate for help. and the government is not listening. and by the way, i have got a lot of center left ideas. i have a lot of center left. >> fiscal responsibility. our southern border is a disaster. i'm a democrat telling i have been there twice. i have seen it. someone has got to get fund control.

>> brian: about the president says give me money. i ask for money. it's not money b. money is it? >> the enforcement of policy. and by the way we have to change our asylum policy. it's not serving this country. democrats know it. republicans know it. the lack of leadership and the willingness to be bold because you are afraid of losing an election is why we are in this position. >> brian: why does the president have 33% approval rating. >> most of america knows. this by the way look it, donald trump and joe biden are both men no ho are going to be in their 80's. "time" magazine cover years ago with bob dole big headline 72 years old. is he tooled to be president? come on, everybody, i'm just saying the quiet part out loud. time for a generation of young conservatives. >> brian: do you think is he slipping? look at everything john kerry. i don't look at him and say he can't do it the job. look at senator grassley. you look at him and say he is too old? i really don't see him as too old. there is something about this president and his performance and unwillingness to do interviews and press conferences. >> i think joe biden is a good man to your point is he not standing in front of the press. is he not here meetings voters. he is not answering questions.

he is not doing town halls and he won't do debates. is he a good man. i don't think he has cognitive issue. he is 81 years old and in decline. issues down the pipeline, artificial intelligence, wars in the middle east and europe. a southern border that's a disaster. and costs are out of control. we need new leadership. that's what this is about. >> brian: you put 2.4 million into new hampshire, more than pete buttigieg did last time. you are going to go on to south carolina regardless. >> darn right. we started at 0% 10 weeks ago. last tracking poll yesterday 32%. people want change. >> brian: in patrol car particular cattle and you lose to 40 points to a write-in candidate that doesn't want any part of new hampshire, what are the chants of you joining no labels if you are interested, if they're interested new, are you interested in them. >> i'm a democrat. i have been a lifelong democrat. i want to help. >> brian: there are democrats with no labels. >> republicans with no labels. i'm on a mission to defeat donald trump. i do believe is he dangerous for this country. i have great admiration for

generational leader. we give them that and so i think this is about how do we go in a conservative direction but also do it in a way that it's younger. it's not the names of the past. but going forward with new solutions. people want that they are tired of the same old thing. >> steve: all right. meanwhile here in new hampshire, a brand new poll out this morning showing nikki haley with a wide lead ahead of trump among independent and democrat voters. so what is her strategy moving forward? joining us now in new hampshire, "special report" anchor bret baier joins us at the curvey couch. >> it's very cozy. i feel like i want a hot cocoa or maybe a boozey drink. >> bret: the fact that you guys dance with the cardinal and the band. >> steve: a little jealous. >> bret: that's big time. places though as this primary season continues. i think, you know, nikki haley wants to get to super tuesday with a win some place. >> steve: right. >> bret: that's the challenge. you are spent yesterday with her. we talked to her for a little bit yesterday. we will show that on "special report" tonight. she enthusiastic people out good crowds. doesn't match the former president's crowds in numbers. he loves to point out that's a poll but, i think the question is whether her message will cut through any place besides new hampshire. >> steve: well, but, for the independents or democrats who, you know, would like to stop the president, former president from marching toward november, this is their -- this is their off ramp. >> bret: this is the alamo. it is the time that they have to mobilize. and, you know, i will say governor sununu has been a real asset to nikki haley. he has mobilized a lot of people. he has a unique touch to talk to

new hampshireites in a way that has been successful and he has been at every rally. >> steve: essentially what nikki haley wants to do tomorrow is what john mccain did back in 20 -- 2,000. actually. when john mccain, with a straight talk express, actually beat george w. bush. and took the lead for a couple of weeks. >> bret: that's right. and then south carolina happened. and, you know, the death star moved. in. >> steve: the death star? >> bret: the return of the jedi. so, hey, listen, i think there is a real chance for the gap to close in a few days. we're going to bounce around. we have been talking to voters. people really take it seriously here. just like in iowa. >> steve: they do. >> bret: you have talked to them. they really relish the fact that candidates are in their living room. they are talking to them directly. it's a different brand of politics. >> steve: you are in our living room right now. thank you very much. do you want me to talk to the band and see if they can stick around to 6:00?

families, with families in focus. i don't think it's a failure. i think any time somebody decides that they love this nation enough to run for this country that's a victory right there for everybody. because you get to see people who would want to too that job. we are reaching a place now where recruitment for the military is down. we get that way for the white house, it's going to be lights out. like we are a republic. and we need people to run who want to do the job. so, i don't look at it that way. what i think is a failure, is just to toggle to the other side of the political aisle right now. somebody retiring before very eyes. you are not allowed to retire before the job is over. that's what we are seeing with joe biden. >> brian: he is not doing the job. >> harris: you can't do that that actually is failure. you can't let us down once you get the job. >> ainsley: ron desantis, i think he did a beautiful job out there. he covered all 99 counties in iowa. is he still young, harris. he is 45 years old. he has quite a record. served our country. went to all these ivy league
