it is stirring a lot of debate at the moment. >> dana: all right. i want to talk more about this. thanks. >> bill: take the money, right? >> dana: i don't know. >> bill: good debate. 20 people are saved after being stranded on an ice floe in lake erie. they were stuck in frozen water a half mile from the state park in ohio. thankfully no one was hurt. everything is frozen in the northeast. >> dana: a lot of weather stories. look at that. no, no, no, no. everyone just be careful. be careful. we have pretty good weather in new hampshire. it is cold. >> bill: not like iowa. >> dana: let me tell you, it was cold in iowa. we can't wait to see you all day. a good two hours. harris faulkner will take you to the next. here she is.

>> harris: welcome to new hampshire where voters are at the polls right now in the two-person race for the gop nomination. donald trump versus nikki haley. i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus." live from majestic bedford, new hampshire. after the iowa caucuses, this is the first primary where people will choose which republican they want to see to try to beat democrats all the way to the white house. former president trump looking for a decisive blow after his big win in iowa last week. he was joined on stage by many people last night. i was there for a few of them. former rivals for the nomination in the big show of unity were on stage speaking with him and nikki haley was there last night, too. we witnessed it along with that crowd. she was trying to explain how she is going to upset and change the course of the presidential race. keeping with tradition, voting

here kicked off at midnight with a six-vote sweep for haley in dicksville, notch. her campaign says they've seen a spike in donations of more than a half million dollars since ron desantis dropped out. the gloves are off in these final campaign hours. >> if you want a losing candidate who puts america last, vote for nikki haley. >> every single thing that donald trump has said or put on tv has been a lie. >> we're down to two people. and i think one person will be gone probably tomorrow. >> when you hear trump speak, what is he talking about? grievances? the past? he is talking about vendettas? >> the radical left democrats are supporting nicki for one simple reason. they know she is very easy to beat. >> rightly or wrongly, chaos follows him. you know i'm right.

donald trump who was out last night in force as well as we'll be showing you throughout. he will join me later. the governor will be here. if new hampshire voters want to choose joe biden today, they will have to write in his name. that's because biden has snubbed the primary in new hampshire. they wanted south carolina to go first. they need to try to win back some of the shedding black vote and they will go through south carolina. biden allies have been pushing a write-in campaign for weeks here and 81 years old as president is still plagued with questions over his age and fitness. a touchy subject at the white house. >> why is it that more and more people polled feel like over time president biden is getting less and less mentally sharp. >> that's a little confusing for me because if you look at what this president has done the last three years, historical pieces of legislation, right?
8:07 am
when it comes to bipartisan infrastructure deal. chips and science act. the inflation reduction act, these are legislation that is going to have a difference for generations to come, right? so this is something that this president has done. that's pretty sharp for this president to have been able to do that. >> harris: rnc chair ronna mcdaniel said democrats made a big mistake. >> i think that's important in contrast to the democrats who walked away from new hampshire who aren't here campaigning to president joe biden who said new hampshire does not matter to me and walked away and you are seeing republicans in this state now as we will continue to be when we win this state in november next year as we take back the white house. >> harris: a scathing op-ed calls out democrats with the headline at least republican voters were given a chance. part of it here biden might have the incumbent advantage, but that doesn't mean he is above being challenged, especially when he vowed during the 2020

8:10 am
americans have vocational jobs. they never went to college and they are paying somebody else's bill. do you challenge him on that? >> i would say for a country in which i believe in the equality of opportunity, we should not be burdening young people with tens of thousands of dollars in debt if they wish to be educated. that would be a better policy. so that's the answer to your question. i think that's something where democrats and republicans would sit down we might find a way forward. >> harris: it wasn't that different terre biden. let's move on. >> you ask if i would absolve everybody's debt. i like incentives. those willing to serve the public. we have a problem with attracting police officers, nurses, military. why not absolve the debt of those willing to help this country when we need a lot of people now. >> that's a huge difference. strong words for president biden and democrats in an interview last night. let's watch together. >> people are really fearful. i saw a trump rally outside of

friendly atmosphere in my small hometown and people are showing up. we normally only get 1500 a day. this is a big deal. >> harris: wow. any nikki haley supporters up here? >> i will be casting my vote for nikki haley this afternoon. the reason why it's a game of -- >> harris: do you feel you have to keep it a secret? >> i think we're obligated not to keep it a secret. this is -- i mean, who knows what is going to happen to america at this point? the fact is the work ethic that has developed in the latter days of the trump era i guess you could say for the republican party of if you do not support trump, if you not support trump or if you don't believe the election was fraudulent, you are a rhino. that's not okay. there are so many important issues the gop has an obligation to get behind and stop getting distracted by these things. >> harris: maria, do you have anything to say to that? >> i was going to original oy
8:23 am
vote for ron desapidity but i will vote for donald trump. he did a great job over four years. our country was safe. we didn't start any wars. our border was secured. gas was low and although trump may not be a great diplomat, i think he is a great president and he keeps our country safe. other leaders of other countries respect him, or are afraid of him, which i'm fine with that as long as our country is safe because i love this country and i want to keep it the way it is. >> harris: it's interesting you say that. it would make him a very good diplomat. we can say in the open era there has never been an invasion by russia into a neighbor by president trump. the only president to say that at this point. let's move on and talk a little bit about the rallies that i saw last night. they were similar in size.
8:24 am
the intensity level, though, was different at the trump rally. i want to come to you on this. there was everybody who has come out of the race and endorsed trump on the stage. does that work for you as a voter? >> i mean, yes, i think it's really -- donald trump is the one and only candidate that can actually beat biden and get this job done. he has proven to us already in his previous administration that he can do the job successfully, responsibly, and so those coming out today in new hampshire keep that in mind, right? we've seen him come through. i've been told many times in my life winners never quit and quitters never win. donald trump is a winner and definitely not quitting on us right now. >> harris: melinda, i want to hear your perspective on nikki haley and her journey in this state.
8:25 am
she came in a distant third place from donald trump in iowa. how much did that play a role for voters that you know for coming here to new hampshire? >> it was inconsequential. we're dealing with a very different demographic in new hampshire. 42% are independents and i think 20% are in iowa. i hope i'm right about that. we will have a very different showing today. i had a woman say to me this morning oh my goodness, i forgot to transfer my party. i was going to vote for nicki this morning but i forgot after i voted democrat last year not to change back. we have that going on. i don't think it is consequential. what happened in iowa. you have seen the momentum. i have been to three dozen events with nikki. and the energy is growing and it has been extraordinary to watch quite frankly. >> harris: what you said is really key. the democrats had hoped to change their vote or if others wanted to maybe make a change
8:26 am
toward the end. they hadn't made up their minds. a record number of undeclared here and i said record, it is bigger than either of the parties. but you had to do that by october 6th. i wonder if nikki haley had enough intensity going in? what would you say, eric, that early in the game. >> going in she could have had more intensity. i was originally on the desantis team before desantis quit and endorsed trump. i do wonder why that happened. i know that we have to get together as a movement, conservative movement, that's true. >> harris: if trump is the nominee you would vote for him. >> if trump is the nominee i will vote for him. it is about -- the lesser of two evils at the end of the day. >> harris: well done. interesting. so maria, i do want to ask about this. it is the border, it's fentanyl in new hampshire. it's off the charts.
8:27 am
and when i've interviewed parents who have lost young people, usually those guests are coming from here and so i know it's personal for new hampshire. which one of these candidates is where you want them to be? they aren't all that dissimilar. they want a wall. nikki haley wants to do far more than that. that's what she said again last night. what is your take? >> i think we see the border as a disaster right now. all the media saying that it is not but we all know from the reports that is a disaster. we have millions of people coming here illegally and i understand there are a lot of people coming here looking for better life. but majority of people coming through are fighting age men. why are they coming here? and i don't feel safe. i worry about my kids' future. not only there is a huge crowd coming through, human trafficking and drug trafficking

all flooding our country. and it is scary to me because i support legal immigration. i'm an immigrant. and just for perspective, my mom has been waiting for legal papers for two years now. i could send her to the border and come with five grand and a free phone and flight. i won't do that. she is 78 and i care about her and i want her to be here legally just like i am. >> harris: i have to say this. what the democrats typically have had on their side they coalesce at the end and get together at the ticket. you will all get together and vote for trump if he is the nominee and vote for nikki haley if she is the nominee. at least you have choices. right? >> that's true. >> i talked to dean phillips. joe biden and some people who may not have enough name recognition late in the game. the three of you have to go

border. >> i guess i have a hard time understanding why there is a disconnect here. >> look, the president has repeatedly said that the immigration system is broken. his first big policy was to deal on the border and three years, we haven't seen any action. >> harris: last week you know we reported 14 house democrats joined republicans voting in a republican-led resolution denouncing biden's border policies, open borders, they condemned it. fox business's hillary vaughn is live on capitol hill with more. >> it's not just democrats in congress dumping on biden over the border. nine democratic governors joining calls for the white house to act as the crisis reached its peak. democratic demands to do something are coming from the senate. some are admitting an open border is a big problem.
8:37 am
>> two things can be true at the same time. you can be very supportive of immigration but we also need to have a secure border. i really -- i think about immigration. we want to provide the american dream for any migrant but it seems very difficult when you have 300,000 people showing up encountered at our border to do that. >> fetterman is not on an island. senator john tester calling out biden writing in an op-ed i told president biden and homeland security secretary mayorkas what is happening on our southern border is unacceptable. the senate is negotiating a border deal with the white house. negotiate keeping talks behind closed doors and senators haven't seen a scrap of paper. one of the democrats negotiating the deal giving an update saying we're at the point of drafting and finalizing text. we don't have a lot of work left to do. it is hard, difficult stuff. it is miracle we've gotten as far as we have. some republicans think it will

hispanic vote for a farther left brandon johnson. if it starts to have a down road effect on those other candidates on those other election points, you could see some shifts across this country over this very issue. >> you certainly could. because the contrast is blatant. if you are a voter in chicago or new york and you say where are these people coming from? you hear donald trump saying the minute i take my hand off the bible i will secure the border. then you see the biden administration literally suing the state of texas in order to cut the razor wire to allow -- make it easier to let illegals come in. >> harris: let's get there. text as leaders are pledging to fight after the u.s. supreme court decided to allow border agents to cut the razor wire. it was installed by the state along a stretch of the u.s./mexico border. an escalating stand-off between the biden administration and state of texas over illegal immigration enforcement. governor abbott put this out on
