don't think he's up to the job and the tommy laurens go to fox news in the world and say i don't think he's making it to the finish line as far as getting this nomination. >> lisa, what do you make of the fundraising numbers, though, as much as democrats are not excited about joe, poll after poll don't want them to be the nominee, i don't think he will be but he's raising a whole lot of money, hundreds of millions of dollars in 2023, doing well when it comes to the fundraising totals, what do you think accounts for that and should republicans be more concerned about joe biden, maybe doing a little better than we think as we view him and listen to him? >> i think we should be concerned. elections are more about mechanics as opposed to winning hearts and minds and getting mail-in ballot, democrats are much better at that. of course, we should always be concerned what's going to happen in this election and if you notice what joe biden is doing, he's not running and saying, oh, my record is so great. he's saying the the other side

is worse. threats to democracy. he's not running an election campaign. it's a deflection campaign and when my brother was younger he used -- he wouldn't eat vegetables, look at the trees, mommy. hey, don't look at the economy, don't look over here, look over here at abortion. don't look at the border, look over here at threats to democracy. don't look at the wars in the middle east and in europe, look over here at trump getting indicted, right, and so that's what joe biden is doing and that's because he can't run on his record so she's saying the other side is worse so we will see if that's good enough to win him the general election if he ends up being the guy that is. tammy: i want to talk about that, jason, we were having discussion, what we thought was going to happen, is joe going to be the nominee if he is, can donald trump beat him but there's somebody else that's in south carolina and we actually have a little sizzle of our buddy from california. he's making a big play, some say for 2028. i would say for 2024 but let's listen to california governor

out there in front with me, oh, no, she's as far away from south carolina as possible but gavin newsom is out there because if there happens to be opening i think a lot of people are looking. i think he's auditioning himself. he does it under the guides of campaigning. the other thing let's also remember. if it wasn't for congressman james clyburn in south carolina making the case for joe biden, he may not have gotten the nomination at that point. he was behind until james clyburn came to save it. >> even stevie wonder could see that gavin newsom is running shadow campaign. it's smart to be in south carolina in early primary state and he's helping the team. he would go to the ends of the earth for joe biden on msnbc. we saw in 2022 when joe biden went over to the middle east and gavin newsom visited the white house, you look at the debate he did with ron desantis, you look at the fact that he's opening super pacs and trying to get

involved in races across the country. it is obvious that to everyone, you know, gavin newsom is hoping that joe biden taps out in 2024 or that he's the guy heading in 2028. >> that's the thing i want to discuss, is it 24 or 28. politico says gavin newsom is preparing for 2028. he's maybe making voters look to him as someone who is going to come riding in after biden in 2028 but, joe, i don't think so. i've maintained this for over a year now. i don't think it's '28 he's looking at. governor ron desantis might be looking at '28. gavin newsom in my opinion is waiting for something to go down with joe biden and he wants to be just likely apparent person because i don't think it's kamala, he's following joe biden around picking up his crumbs. that's my take on it but, joe, '28 or '24? >> '24 is a good theory and i think it's because gavin newsom knows how to read. he reads the poll. the issues that voters care about the most immigration and the border, joe biden is at 18%

approval. i would love to have onion rings and a beer. 18% is low number. inflation, 32% approval on crime 35% approval. these are disastrous numbers. newsom knows it, the democratic party knows it. they know if this is a referendum on joe biden's record. he will lose worse than hillary clinton in the electoral college in 2024 because georgia, arizona, nevada, wisconsin, michigan, he is down big right now and he's not going to get better with age. he's the cottage cheese president. not better like the fine wine president. >> you have vice president kamala harris who use still have to deal with that and that's still what we have to figure out is how that's going to go town. i haven't quite figured it out. i think everyone can be bought for a price and she believes -- >> she did call him racist. >> that was so long ago.

house speaker says it's dead on arrival. donald trump says he doesn't support it. here is tennessee senator marsha blackburn. >> the president could close the border if he wanted to close the border. he will not close the border. we can pass all the laws there are and if they are not going to follow the law, then why are we passing something. >> here is what is in this proposed senate border plan, mandatory detention of all single adults, mandatory shutdown of the border once the average daily migrant encounters hits 5,000. the shutdown would not lift until daily encount canners reduce to less than 3,750 encounters per day and in short here is the plan of how many migrants will be allowed into the u.s. under the senate deal, 150,000 per month and 1.8 million per year. that's about the population of phoenix. president biden reacting in a statement saying, quote, for too long we all know the border has been broken. it's long past time to fix it.
