loved wrestling, loved football. what is he like? do you remember any stories? >> oh, man, stories for days. you know, one time he saved my butt. it was -- i won't get into it, but there was an incident, it was award show in los angeles. i will never forget. this and there was a rut can you say and things got crazy and i'm kind of sprawled out on a lawn outside a hotel with a bunch of cops around me and a hospital. and toby kind of stepped in, he said hey, man, i remember the cops saying back up, big boy. and he kind of handled it, he handle it so elegantly. he came over and smoothed things over. either myself or him the next morning was going on another trip to bane the troops. he mooted the whole situation out. it was a misunderstanding. and it was just so many times and like i said, the back of losers picking guitars after award show. one time i remember meeting him at club in detroit randomly.

he was in town for something that i didn't know. and he just showed up at this club and the next thing you know me him and song writing friend scotty got in this little car i h it was just a sedan, and is he a large man. there is like, i don't know, five of news this sedan. and we go back to my house. and that's -- that's when he goes check out this new song we just got done writing, and, of course, i love this bar. one of my favorite toby songs. i will never forget that sitting around my studio just on a whim, so many great memories, such a talent. you know he is going to be missed. >> brian: kid rock, did you know how serious his illness was? i got the sense just from the outside perspective that he was going to make a comeback on this after we saw him at that award show. did you get that sense, too? >> man, i'm going to regret -- you know, i knew i had sent him a few texts here and there. hey, we are pulling for you and love you.

he said you know i'm fighting. i was just out in las vegas when he was playing. i said to my fiancee, i said we had this commitment. i said man, i should blow this commitment off and go see toby. i just felt that that's what i should do and i didn't. and i'm going to regret that but, no i didn't know that it was in this stage. unfortunately. >> you know, kid, before we let you go. i know you have been a big supporter of the military but toby was as well. talk about his affection for the military. >> i mean, every time -- we used to joke about who went over there more. because me and him definitely, you know, ten if not 20 times we had been there, spending christmas and thanksgiving, you know, just whenever we were called, we went to do it. sometimes we called them and had a lot of conversations about that about how it was the most rewarding thing we had ever done in our careers, but it was almost the most work. so, you know, i dare say he probably went more than i did. but, yeah. i mean, what a great patriot to

that charles makes a good recovery. there is a report in the daily mail today that they may have caught this other cancer early and, in fact, dr. marc siegel was saying he thinks it might be bladder cancer. that is one of the things you can get on discovery if you are dealing around the prostate area. and if you have caught that early the prognosis could be good. let's assume for argument sake he is incapacitated for quite a while, in that eventuality, if he is not able to perform his duties as a monarch constitutional duties which are incredibly important including, of course, appointing a new prime minister, which will have to be done this year. if charles can't end up doing that because the treatment he is having, then you would move to a situation where one of his special counselors would be appointed to do those duties on his behalf, now, there were quite a few of those and they included harry and beatrice and some of the other lesser royals. but recently charles decided to

reduce that number to just four. and they all had to be working royals. no andrew, no harry, no beatrice, it's basically it's just camilla, his wife. it's william, and then his two -- his brother edward and sister ann. one of them could be appointed to effectively be king while he is still alive or queen if it was ann in that circumstance. but, if he was to die, then you would move to a situation where prince william would immediately exaccede to the throne as charles did for the queen. if, god forbid there was some catastrophe, william was to die, then you would get into the succession line and his three children as you say would all be too young. then you would get into a position of a regent king, which hasn't happened for centuries where you would have somebody appointed effectively to act

alongside -- the oldest son. but this is completely uncharted territory. fair to say britain has gone into a big shock over. this no doubt that charles canceling all of his public engagements and the nature of the statement they put out on harry flying straight to be here in london despite all the problems they have had as a family, that says to me, this is a serious situation. >> ainsley: any word on kate how she is doing? i just read that william was spending time with her after her surgery and now he is coming back out after all of this news. >> very difficult for william and camillela. the queen has to go out and do all of her engagements with the love of her life possibly in a life or death situation. kate we know little about her. abdominal issue. it must have been serious because she is taking months and months off work.
