>> guys a catastrophic house explosion claims the life of one fire fighter. in all, one dead and nine fire fighters and two civilians were injured. in that blast according to loudoun county fire and rescue in the washington dc metro area of sterling. fire fighters calling to a natural gas smell around 7:40 in the evening and the explosion happening shortly after and many on scene. several may day calls including one, which reported that there were several fire fighters trapped by debris. >> it's a huge physical and mental toll by everyone on the fire department. obviously the people that are trapped and rescuers going in to try and pull them out, the incident commander. my peers throughout the region,

it's impacted them. >> it is the second major house explosion to rock the washington dc metro area over the past few months. you may recall back in december, a suspect who shot at police from a home in arlington, virginia, died in a blast at his home as police tried to make contact with him from outside. three officers were injured in that explosion as well. we expect to hear more from loudoun county fire and rescue about the explosion overnight as the search for answers continue at daybreak, guys. rachel: thank you, kevin. pete: another reminder of dangers that men and women face on our behalf. guy: those pictures are unbelievable. rachel: absolutely. pete: yet, a ruling came down here in new york. the new york post says new york does not love don. i think that certainly speaks for letitia james. the attorney general that ran on

saying i'm going to get it up and those on the left would say that constitutes that in their mind. court ordered donald trump to pay $350 million, barred him from business for three years in new york. of course he'll appeal but this is what the ruling said. ordered to pay as we said the money, three years, don jr. and eric banned for two years. banned for applying for loans from new york city for three years and establishes an independent role of compliance at trump organization. donald trump will appeal this, obviously. but new york attorney general letitia james, remember, she ran on saying i'm going to get trump, i'm going after him. here's what he said. >> today, justice has been served and we prove that had no one is above the law no matter how rich, powerful, or politically connected you are. everyone must play by the same rules. we have a responsibility to protect the integrity of the

already four times. but a crooked new york state judge just ruled i have to pay a fine of $355 million for having built a perfect company. great cash, great buildings, great everything. this is russia, this is china, this is the same game. all comes out of the doj, all comes out of biden. it's a witch hunt against this political opponent. racpete: guy, what do you make f all this? guy: often when it comes to legal prosecutions, there's a rule of thumb to avoid, appearance of politics. they're not even trying in new york in this case. whatever you think of donald trump, she said it's important, letitia james, paraphrasing that everyone is treated equally under the law. it was the associated press that did a review yesterday and found this law has never been applied to anyone this way ever. that's not equal treatment under the law. that is different, special,

unfair treatment under the law. my understanding as a nonlawyer is that the banks involved, supposed fraud, they did their due diligence and said they were not victimized. there's no victim here, but here's a woman who promised to go after this man in a litigious way and it may not sit well for many americans and folks not inclined to love donald trump, this is troubling and see if the appeals process plays out. rachel: beyond troubling. it's election interference in my opinion especially if you take into account all the different cases and seems so coordinated what's going on right now. donald trump jr. says we've reached the point where political beliefs on social mediacom brief negotiated interviewed with what venue your case is heard in are the primary determinants of the outcome, not the facts in the case.

and i would say this message is really dangerous. it says two things. one f you're a republican, especially if you're a trump supporter, this is a message, we're going to come after you if you try to run or try to be part of this administration, we're going to dig everything we can up and trump up charges like this as well. i think it also sends a message to business owners. last night clay travis was on jesse watters saying this is why i would never have a business in a blue state. they weaponnize the legal system against their enemies and this all undermines foundational things in their country that make it work and you'll be treated fairly under the law, justice would be behind, that they're not going to find, try and find a crime and then apply it to you. also i think the whole idea of election interference. what they're doing to donald

trump. i done know how he gets out of bed every day. it's so many most people wouldn't withstand this level. pete: no doubt .x they can't see the irony and flip it over to msnbc or cnn and dual stories of death of political opponent in russia and then flip to we got our political opponent in new york and if only we could get him in jail and can't run for president. maybe we're doing the same thing to our political opponent here . rachel: the parallels are greater than you think. before they killed him they took him off the ballots and some crime of obscure crime and put his brother in jail for nothing because they knew it would hurt him because he loved his brother so much. going after family members as you see in this case as well. pete: here we government a year ago, there was the -- we'll move to another topic to middle america. tragic train derailment in east palestine, ohio. this is a big deal.

effects that are able to be identified as time goes on. pete: a year later and you get i'm going to mumble off my notes while i stare down and give you a bit of information about this. that's what the people of east palestine got. rachel: what do you make of the timing? why now? guy: not even the one year anniversary. a few weeks later and 54 weeks later the president could squeeze in east palestine. the phrase to describe the attitude of some of the elite left is flyover country. i wonder how many times has president biden flown over the state of ohio since that happened. many opportunities and i remember one time specifically, rachel, he was traveled to wisconsin and flew directly over this town and couldn't be bothered to stop and now more than a year later, they shuffle him in and he reads something prepared for him and drinks water and shuffles out. i can't imagine that making a great impact on the folks this.

rachel: the five migrants arrested in connection to that brutal attack on nypd officers were arraigned yesterday as authorities say at least two of them are linked to a venezuela super gang known as [speaking non-english language] the criminal organization is expanding their influence including in the u.s.. kevin catalina is a former gang division officer and anti-gang violence expert and he joins us now. one of these guys got $1 for his bail? >> yeah, i don't know what you'd say about that and it's an insult to law enforcement and members of the nypd and this is a violent, violent gang and their presence is new york is growing daily. they're involved in everything

from retail theft, organized retail theft, extortion and kidnapping and it's a dangerous, dangerous group and nypd is concerned and i had a conversation with the chief detectives and it's an emerging threat we have to watch and can't afford for judges to let them go with $1 bail. rachel: yeah, just thinking about that marine daniel penny that got $100,000 of bail and bail is set on if you're a risk or not. daniel penny from long island and these guys are from a criminal gang in venezuela. obviously they're a flight risk so how de-moralizing has this been for the department? i can't imagine the frustration of knowing that these are people who beat up police officers brutally and getting off like this. >> yeah, it's de-moralizing and the nypd fought valiantly and

seeing them released and released on $is bail is de-moralizing and that can't happen. one of the things we need to understand is that we need to work very, very closely with our federal partners and there's a mechanism in place to deal with this and called deportation. when they're caught and we identify them to be part of the gangs, we need to bring in the federal partners and we need to send them back to where they came from. this is a message that clearly needs to be sent. if we don't get on top of it quick, there's going to be people recruiting from gangs that are already existing and they're going to being a much bigger problem than we ever anticipated. rachel: here illegally and exciting the crimes and why are we wasting taxpayer money on these proceedings and kick them out of the country. they don't belong here. it's outrageous. >> it really s. again, i think

four times. rachel: matt whitaker. matt, great to have you on this morning. break this all down for us and what does this mean for the president moving forward? >> well, from the near term he's going to have to fight through and the case is very weak. the judge gave a forum for letitia james make ridiculous claims and ultimately the judgment is untethered to any number and there's no victim and no insurance company was out anything and this judge picked a number out of the air hoping to punish the trump organization, the trump children and others in the trump organization, and i think it's just disappointing but the other thing that's going to happen here, rachel, is you're going to see businesses

fleeing new york. just like elon musk left delaware, you're going to see businesses leave. pete: matt, he'll appeal. how long does that take? we have the flashily headline but is he ever likely to even pay and the case is so flimsy and appeal it, do you think he'll win on appeal? >> there's a chance that justice is not only delayed but denied because of the judges being appointed by democrat governors. judge engoron was so fundamentally biased and unfair to president trump that the court of appeals has to insert themselves and remember, the u.s. supreme court does sit above these state supreme courts ultimately and could if necessary and especially in an unfair anti-due process case like this where he wasn't even allowed to put on a case because

it was ultimately decided on summary judgment based on liability watching the damages piece and make its way to the u.s. supreme court because it's so fundamentally inconsistent with american juries prudence. guy: matt, let me quote, associated press analysis of 70 years and trump's case stands apart and it's the only big business found that was threatened with a shut down and outshowing obvious victims and major losses and i know people talk about the two tiers of justice and that sentence seems pretty damming on that front. >> incredibly damming. the attorney general of new york to campaign to harass and sue donald trump to get him out of business in new york and she as in the near term accomplish that goal and again, i think it's because only of that last 70 years of cases and also just the

but if it's campaign cash, you can't keep it. >> the issue is she had a large amount of cash for campaign for da in 2020. that shocked a lot of people but trying to prove there was not a conflict based on business relationship. the fact the county was paying the special prosecutor and also having a relationship and so the only way they could explain that away was if she reimbursed half of the expenses for lavish romantic travel around mostly central and america and on cruises and only way that would make sense is if she reimbursed half and a lot of people kind of shook their head and said that is specious. pete: that's a good way to put it. there's no record of it. guy: convenient. rachel: it's a black thing. that's what he said, the dad said. that's a crazy stuff.
