should have never happened in the first place. >> that's just honestly infuriating to me. we know it has been a problem and i just don't like the fact that it's so frustrating that this is what it takes for it to really be brought to light that somebody's life being taken, especially for no reason. it is not like they knew each other or had a grudge against her or anything like that. the fact that somebody had to die for this to be brought to light and we don't have any certainty of something being done about it. >> ice confirms the accused killer entered the u.s. illegally through el paso in 2022. they say new york law enforcement arrested him just five months ago for quote acting in a manner to injure a child. ice says nypd released him before they could issue a detainer on him. riley died from blunt force trauma. autopsy results could come as early as today.

like to be there. it felt safe for a reason. there hasn't been a homicide on campus in 30 years. now her family tragically is facing this. the community is facing this. the university of georgia also had another student die by suicide this week. hard on the bulldogs. my heart is with them and with their families. so the fact is the facts of her case and suspected arrested is more than a political football. we don't want to cheapen it by not talking about this wonderful student whose picks terse, she won't get to live past that. i want to honor her life. but the media needs to talk about the facts of the case. many sources are sort of just leaving out that this person was in the country illegally and did have arrests already on the books in his past inside the country. he controlsed illegally. wanted to a ply for asylum. in new york for endangering a child and released. in new york you're released

quickly and nothing gets to ice. look, people have to acknowledge particularly media, whose job it is to use the facts, acknowledge that when you are letting millions of people in, 10,000 per day in some cases they are unvetted doesn't mean that all those people will commit violent crimes but some of them will. those crimes were preventable. this young woman was failed by every level of law enforcement including in athens which is a sanctuary city. the d.a. there promised to treat illegal immigrants with kid gloves. when someone comes under arrest, what happens after that? what does that mean for the people in that community and for their safety in the future? >> bill: a couple of things i want to get to. we knew he was an illegal and information that he had been arrested in new york. some media outlets are calling him an athens resident. the killing of a nursing student highlights the fears of solo

female agent lets. what in the hell is that all about? >> this story was wild. i read the whole thing. that is a real fear. i used to run that path. when i run alone i think about these things. no attempt to look at statistics that might be helpful to female runners. they take a sample size of two tragic murders of female runners and then they don't mention that either one of them. the thread that connects those two is that both suspects, one serving life sentence were illegal im granulitis. maybe we should deal with that fact and maybe you are missing the story trying to turn it into another story because you don't want to deal with the fact this reflects badly on the policies of this administration. if we don't deal with the bad policy, bad things continue to happen. >> bill: another point here. if you were to drive 100 miles to the east from athens, georgia, you would hit the south

carolina border. maybe not even that far. what we saw on saturday night first of all here are the border crossings during the biden years, 7.9 million. they aren't done yet as we know. eight or nine more months to go maybe longer if there is a second for. 2.4 under trump. 50% of those in south carolina listed immigration as issue number one, m.k. >> it's an issue for a reason. people don't like chaos. americans are overwhelmingly kind and welcoming. everybody references the poem on the statue of liberty and perfectly rational to want people to enforce laws and want order. when people see 10,000 entries a day sometimes and untold numbers that aren't even counted, right? they go what exactly is happening here and look at how differently they're treated.

the fact that in new york they will hand out debit cards with untold amounts of money on them at taxpayer expense. people are covering hotels. american homeless folks who can't live in these hotels on taxpayer dime and yet illegal immigrants are allowed to. people are looking at this and going exactly what is my government doing? what's its plan? is it interested in protecting me? i think that's what many people at the university of georgia can look around and say are you interested in protecting me? the fundamental duty of a government. >> bill: you are right. two final points and we have to go. part of the reason why you give the debit cards, they don't have jobs or money. there will be a small percentage that may act out in crime. the reason why you do the debit cards is to keep the crime levels down. if you start with a pilot program it will go 10x before it's all over. one quick thing. we aren't painting with a broad

is there is obviously and attorney-client relationship and the judge has not in any way ruled that the attorney/client relationship has been pierced or that it has been dismantled somehow. so what the judge has to sort of parse out. the reason it's being done behind closed doors rather than publicly on the record, is he has to decide what information this guy has that is in the nature of fact witness information that doesn't have anything to do with communications that are about legal advice between an attorney and a client versus what conversations wade had with his lawyer or former lawyer that actually are covered by the privilege. the judge needs to sort that out and decide what can be proved on the record and what can't. >> aishah: this is similar to what is happening with the cell phone records. these records appear to be very

damming and why fani willis is trying to dismiss them from being used here. her motion says the records do nothing more than demonstrate that special prosecutor wade's telephone was located somewhere within a densely populated multiple mile radius where various residences, bars, nightclubs and other businesses are located. she is trying to make it seem like this is not that important. this is not a valid part of the case. how do you see this? how do you think this is going to go? >> this is what happens in most cases, aishah. what the people who are trying to prove a proposition do is tell the fact finder here it's the judge, often a jury in a trial, you have to take all of the evidence as a mosaic and decide how it fits together. when people are under attack usually it's the defendants in a criminal case, they try to take the evidence piece by piece in

isolation, get the fact finder to consider it independent of everything else and not weave it into how it fits in with everything else a and try to get it dismissed that way. fani willis here is saying this evidence is inadmissible. it is not inadmissible but in the law of evidence we have a concept called weight. not admissibility. we call it common sense but basically the evidence can be taken for what it's worth with its limitations. cell sight information proves a person was in a rough vicinity and can tell you whether the person was moving for stationary. it can be considered with everything else they've heard in the way of testimony and it sounds like it is consistent with two people having a relationship. >> aishah: we'll find out. thank you for joining us this morning. good to see you. >> thank you. >> bill: thank you. stand by for news on that if it comes our way. in the meantime it is confirmed

long time supporter of donald trump. she writes this morning i have decided to step aside and our spring training march 8th in houston to allow the nominee to select a chair of their changes. they have undergone change. once we have a nominee and always my intention to honor that tradition. donald trump helped elevate her he has soured on her performance and what some see are the rnc lackluster fundraising efforts. trump made it clear he is ready to see changes at the rnc. >> i think she did great when she ran michigan for me and did okay initially in the rnc. i would say right now, there will probably be some changes made. >> rnc's 168 members need to decide the party's next steps. trump has said he is backing michael whatley out of north carolina and his daughter-in-law. drew -- given her departure

several other staffers could leave the rnc. the trump campaign, no new reaction yet to the news with ronna mcdaniel. >> aishah: thank you, mark. >> bill: we thought we would let our viewers know the state of the race on the republican nomination now and where it stands as of saturday night. not quite six weeks ago we were in a frozen tundra of iowa. just want to take you back there and just remind us what the results were. trump got a tick over 50%. nikki haley won one county, by one vote there in iowa. some six weeks ago. then we moved to new hampshire. ten different counties and trump was dominant well over 50%. the one county nikki haley won. she won that quite handily reasonably speaking when you talk about a race that's competitive.

we went to nevada. it has been a mess between the caucuses and primary. the caucus is the only one that mattered with delegates. trump swept all 17 counties and won the entire state. rolling into south carolina saturday night and we were trying to figure out can nikki haley do well in her home state? we want to show you among candidates in time if we were to go back eight years. a lot of candidates there battling it out. eight years ago in texas, ted cruz won his home state by 17 points over donald trump. it wasn't much of a contest. eight years ago, right? john kasich in ohio beat donald trump and won his home state by 11 points. all right? saturday night after spending really close to $15 million, donald trump was a 20-point victor over nikki haley. she won three counties but that

was it after 14, $15 million spent. kevin mccarthy with me now. good morning to you. nice to have you on. we had a lot of time to gab on saturday night and there seemed to be this question as to what is nikki haley doing next? we know she is competing in michigan tomorrow. there was some talk whether or not she would be a third party nominee or candidate. grady trimble caught up with her last night in michigan. >> i don't know how more clear i can make this i don't want vice president. i have said multiple times i'm a republican. i'm not running as any other party or independent. and i will continue to say this is not about my political career. this is about the future of america. >> will you ever run as a third party candidate? >> i have said no over and over again. i have no interest in a third party candidatesy. >> bill: i showed you the numbers. what's the strategy? how does this thing wind down?

>> i don't think nikki haley runs as a third party candidate. she is a republican. the race is over. it will be between president trump and president biden. i think the sooner we focus on that and unify this party, i think we see all those movements happening right now with president trump lays out a rebuild, restore, renew will have a strong election coming in november. i think this is going to be a report card on what president biden promised coming into office and actually what he did. the democrats don't quite realize the damage they have done to this border and it goes across the nation of people frustrated. the economy, where our standing is in the foreign policy around the world. i think people remember what it was four years ago, the price of gas, economy and the safety and security they had around the world. i think it will be a big night for republicans. >> bill: michigan tomorrow night. eight days super tuesday. ronna mcdaniel will step down on

the 8th of march in houston. what do you make of the change in the rnc. you traveled the country recruiting candidates trying to win races. what's critical about this now? >> i want to thank ronna for her service. president trump wouldn't have won except for her work in michigan and worked with her strongly winning the majority of the house. a smart move on her part. i like whatley. i like lara coming in as well. it is retooling, rebuilding and beginning that election that we'll have in november beginning what we need right now in resources. i like what i'm seeing. i want to see more unity within the party. they have to remember this is about addition rick not subtraction. we can get every republican to vote for us but we won't win. we need to have independents and democrats that want to look at the america they want to see going forward for themselves and their children.

>> bill: you called ronna a friend and strong leader. lara trump was touting the value of early voting for republicans. a sticky spot with a lot of republicans thinking you have to do it on election day. the rules for voting in america have changed in 2024. we'll see how that plays out. hit you on one more thing. these were the issues in south carolina. i brought this up a short time ago. immigration with 44%, economy and jobs 30%. look at immigration at 44%. >> it wasn't just in south carolina. it was in iowa, new hampshire. remember, there is no new legislation that passed except a new president. this all lays at the feet of the democrats. the house actually passed when i was speaker the strongest border security bill we can have and look what just transpired in georgia. a young woman is actually killed by an individual who illegally came here from venezuela.
