there are hot spots everywhere. we are watching close. we did have a lot in the hundreds on the south side of the community. our firefighters worked with public works going house to house it seems like every small city, everybody responding to fires. >> ainsley: several agencies working to contain the fires. scary images, images of cattle running for their lives with fire behind them, people driving. you have seen the video, you can barely see it. how do you know which direction to go? >> brian: there is some communication, with the sun up, we find out what they do today. bring in aaron o'connor. aaron, great to see you.

the sun is up, what is most learned moment for you? >> aaron, i was in texas on sunday and it was hot and dry. over the last 48 hours, now you have windy conditions. i was reading with smokehouse fire in the panhandle area, it burned 450 square miles and it is zero percent contained. is that what you understand at this point. >> smokehouse creek fire is estimated to be 300,000 acres and zero percent contained. with incredibly high wind speed over past day in a half, that fire has rapidly grown.

it is challenging to get equipment and firefighters into drainage and safety issues with how fast that fire is moving. >> steve: if it is drainage area, are there houses or other infrastructure? >> there is infrastructure at risk when that fire moves out of the drainage area, it will pick up speed. we have evacuations in place at this time. >> ainsley: what caused it? i know how southern towns are, we talk to etch00 other and share stories, what are stories you are hearing? >> the cause of the fires are under investigation and just word from the ground up there is that everybody is taking care of each other and it is certainly just trying times, trying to keep people safe and structures protected and make sure we get everybody out of harm's way.

>> brian: is the goal to contain or stop? what is possible? what is feasible? >> with conditions moderating, not expecting to have high wind speed we see over past couple days. those are favorable conditions, we have lower conditions than we've had. that is a good opportunity for firefighters to put in containment lines to slow progress of the fire and increase containment so when we get to the end of the week, dry conditions again, hopefully they have made progress that we have contained the fire to a certain area. >> steve: there is a nuclear facility that has been evacuated, is the fire threatening that area? >> the fire is moving in that

area. the plant has taken precaution to ensure personnel and equipment is safe and everything on site is safe and working in coordination with local officials and firefighters to ensure that is well protected. >> ainsley: where did everyone go? people that evacuated? there was a church housing people? >> yes, so very fortunate, small texas communities, everybody bans together, churches, local schools, other neighbors cities that have opened their doors to any evacuated residents. >> ainsley: i know that powers out in much the area, schools are closed, people had to leave their homes. there have been neighborhoods burned. so sad. thank you. >> steve: good luck. all right, let's switch to politics right now and race for the white house. former president donald trump defeated nikki haley in michigan
