4:01 am
guys. i will tell you this is actually bad news for the biden campaign because, for a long time, they have been saying that the longer nikki haley stays in the race the better for them. you had a second person on the headlines in the airwaves who was slamming donald trump as a risk to democracy. that and is how the biden campaign has been framing their 2024 approach. basically hammering on the threat to democracy that trump poses. hearkening back to january 6th. searing in people's minds images of his efforts to overturn the election. and they have been more than happy to see nikki haley echoing some of their messaging. and having it get out and having voters express to them about -- about donald trump, republicans, expressing that they can't get behind the likely and presumptive nominee up until now. so, the other factor is that while the biden team knows that they win, if donald trump is in
4:02 am
the race, that's how they see it, this is certainly unwelcomed news. i think they would have liked to have seen her, you know, pick up that effort for them for as long as possible but now, as they shift into a general election rematch and it's going to be donald trump vs. president biden, this is what they are preparing for. we're learning this morning that trump is -- haley, rather, is not going to endorse trump, but she is going to try to negotiate or, excuse me, encourage him to bring over independent voters who backed her and try to court that support. and that's a different approach than the biden campaign is taking. they are not going after independent voters. they are not going going after disaffected trump republicans. they going voters did not go after biden in 2020. activated in the midterms and state and local elections and special elections and they see
4:03 am
two paths to success through two different tracks of states voters alone. their focus has been trying to convert nonvoters into new voters rather than pull over voters from the other side. we will see where it goes. we will see if the president continues his rhetoric of going for the glug dollar, trying to knock trump off his balance and make him go haywire, reportedly. that's been the approach. we will see if he does that in the state of the union. but we are digesting this news over here and haven't officially gotten any comment from the biden campaign about the developments, guys. >> brian: jacqui great to adjust to the breaking news. appreciate it. they will have a lot of whiteoutout-he was taking a dayf before the state of the union speech. smell it, put it over there. >> lawrence: don't smell it. >> steve: might like that. >> lawrence: last thing he needs is something else to make him stumble. go ahead, steve. >> steve: i was going to say the great sean hannity is up early
4:04 am
harry, sean you, good morning. >> ainsley: good morning. >> sean: good morning, guys. how are you? >> steve: doing okay. just adjusting to the news. >> sean: by the way, steve, i am always up early watching you guys. that's my morning routine before i work out. >> ainsley: are you dvring us. you need to dvr us, sean at 6:00. >> sean: yes, dvr. i do miss the 6:00 hour. so 7:00 is usually my tune-in time. i like to dvr the first hour which is always great. >> brian: i could call you and recap at the end of the show if you want, sean. >> steve: sean, the lead story is nikki haley is going to drop out at 10:00 and as jacqui heinrich just said she is, it sounds like, according to john mccormick from the "wall street journal," who we are about to talk to in a moment, she will encourage donald trump to earn the support of the republicans and the independents who supported her. how do you think she is going to put that? >> sean: i don't think it really matters in the end.
4:05 am
i think the disappointing part of what jacqui reported is, she had said before the republican primary debate criteria to get on that debate stage that she would, in fact, endorse donald trump or endorse the eventual winner and support the eventual winner. so, and i know ainsley asked her about that yesterday when you have both president trump and nikki on yesterday. and she had said she would, so she seems to be going against her word. she gave that first indication over the weekend. that's disappointing to me. i think that she should stand by her word on that. >> steve: maybe she will clarify that today. >> sean: with that said though, look, i give a lot of credit to anybody that steps in the arena. i think it is a very, very hard job to get out there and run for president. if there's a primary and let's say there is 16 or 17 people like there was in 2016 or, you
4:06 am
know, 7, 8, whatever the number happened to be this year, there is only going to be one event eventualwinner, at the end of ty most people don't get in if they don't think they are going to win. but, at the end of the day, i mean, nice, like everybody else in the republican party, maybe supporting governor desantis or tim scott or vivek ramaswamy, you are going to have to ask yourself a question. do you really think -- do you want four more years of joe biden and his failed policies or are we going to be better off with the policies that president trump had brought in during his first term and is he running on a platform you are more in agreement with? if you look at where joe biden is, i think joe biden did not have the best night as everybody seems to claim. there are a lot of states where people said, no, i'm not voting
4:07 am
for joe biden. and the percentages are high. he didn't really have any opponent last night. and, more importantly, just got to look at all the polls that have come out. i discussed this last night when i was on with bret and martha. we have had the "new york times" siena poll, the fox news poll, the "wall street journal" poll, cbs was interesting to me because donald trump beat that threshold, he was at 52% in terms of head-to-head matchup with joe biden. that is a big number. then you look at the gallup approval rating of joe biden. joe biden was only at 38%. you look at the abc poll. 86% of the american people think that this man is too old to be running for president again. people see what i have been pointing out since 2020, which is that he is weak. is he frail, he is a cognitive mess. i have been saying forever he has not had a clean event in at
4:08 am
least six months that i can think of. clean being defined as, you know, is he not mumbling, bumbling, stumbling, having a hard time figuring out where to stand or exiting stage left or exiting stage right. the most interesting poll that i saw, one of the polls that i just mentioned, 10% of joe biden voters in 2020, they will be voting for donald trump. >> lawrence: that's stunning. >> bret: that has to be sending off sirens and alarms in the biden white house. that is a big problem for them. then you look at, for example, the democratic coalition. the bales of the democratic party. and a part of that base would be african-american voters, hispanic american voters. that would be young people. he is bleeding support, double digits. in some cases over 20% of that base is not supporting him. they don't think he has done a particularly good job.
4:09 am
and then can you start breaking it down and start looking at issues. when you look at the issues, all right. i mentioned this last night. historically, where do people -- what do people think about what they go to the polls on election day? peace and prosperity. we have war in europe. we have war in the middle east. we have a president, frankly, that i do not think garners a lot of respect on the world stage. does vladimir putin, president xi, the mullahs in iran, kim jong un do they really respect joe biden? i don't think so. the no consequences, for example, in the case of china, when they fly a spy balloon over our country. no consequences when they aggressively are maneuvering around our fighter jets and international airspace or aggressive maneuvers in international waterways against our navy? no consequences at all? joe biden just seems to let it all happen and nothing happens.
4:10 am
if aggressive moves are made against our ally taiwan, nothing happens there. so, and you got an economy that, frankly, you know, okay, maybe some of joe biden's friends are doing great and i understand joe is going to talk a lot about shrinkflation. they have been. >> ainsley: cookie monster. >> sean: push the narrative about bidenomics for a long time. well, how has that been working out because 60% of the american people -- and i have lived this life, they are living paycheck to paycheck. not the greatest way to live. so, when they talk about well, he wants to blame greedy corporations or shrinkflation, and everybody but himself, the buck should really stop with biden. because inflation went up because of his policies, not because of corporate america. so, on the economy, i don't see a lot -- i don't see a good
4:11 am
story for them to tell. >> lawrence: sean, such a good point. i want to bring you back because you just laid out the issues. and when i was interviewing donald trump about three weeks ago, we talked about on the issues. >> sean: i liked your interview yesterday. it was really good. >> lawrence: thank you, brother. i learned from the best. and we were talking about you in that last interview as well. and i said, look, when you go to the issues you win on the issue. but some people have a problem with your tone sometimes. and he said, you know what? sean hannity tells me the same thing. so how does donald trump win the issues while still being tough because people like the toughness as well, but still get those suburban women voters as well steve and independent. >> lawrence: and independent voters. >> you are asking probably the single most important question. is the base of donald trump, which we have witnessed now during this entire primary
4:12 am
season, is that enough to win a general election. >> steve: right. >> sean: to me, that does not get him there. however, we're beginning to see -- i mentioned the various demographics that seem to be leaving joe biden. that, to me, is called an opportunity. and for president trump, if i was him, i would look at those numbers. i would go into communities traditionally maybe even big cities, i would go to chicago, i would go to new york. i would go to los angeles, i would go minority -- majority-minority neighborhoods around the country and ask people are you more safe? are you more secure? we know the answer. how are your schools doing? how do you think you have been doing economically under joe biden's policies? now, a couple of numbers let me throw out at you -- i believe this was the "wall street journal" poll -- and joe biden has now been graded after three

years and on climate change. most americans feel he has failed on helping african-americans. most americans feel he has not done a good job. he has mostly failed. the working class, 58% of respondents think he has failed. improving our image abroad, 61% believe he has failed. on the economy, 61% believe he is failing. making us safer, 63% think he is failing. he has not unified the country. 69% think he has failed on that. and then, what have we been watching since iowa? what is the number one issue that keeps coming up? it is j joe biden's open border policies. >> steve: perfect setup for our next soundbite sean hannity. >> ainsley: sean, we wanted to bring you to this. talking about immigration and straw poll that said yesterday in virginia the top two issues, immigration and the economy.
4:14 am
jen psaki and rachel maddow were mocking virginia voters for saying that immigration is their top issue over on another network. listen to this. >> if you look at some of these exit polls, i mean i live in virginia. immigration was the number one issue. [laughter] again, these could change in virginia. >> well, virginia does have a border with west virginia. [laughter] >> very contested area. build a wall. >> ainsley: our own bill melugin has a reality check for them. he posted this on x. two weeks ago in virginia, an illegal alien from venezuela was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in campbell county, virginia. he had drossed illegally into el paso, texas in september of 2023. and was released into the u.s. by the federal government. what's your reaction, sean? >> sean: you know, i wonder if they were speaking or talking to laken riley's parents. >> lawrence: that's right. >> who are suffering and in all likelihood.
4:15 am
i wonder if they were laughing or mocking them? the fact we known now that an iranian terrorist is in our country looking to hunt down people like former secretary of state mike pompeo. there's nothing funny about it. the most dangerous aspect -- and i think it's the reason why it is the number one issue in terms of failure, was 71% of americans think joe biden's immigration policies have failed is we have now close to 10 million illegal, unvetted joe biden immigrants in this country. and we do know something about them. we know that hundreds have come from iran. the number one state sponsor of terror. there are satellite -- we know tens of thousands have come from china. why are people making the long trek from china to the southern border? we have, you know, 15,000 from russia. our number two geopolitical foe
4:16 am
behind china. thousands from egypt, home of the muslim brotherhood. thousands -- over 6,000 from afghanistan where, by the way, al-qaeda has rebuilt their training camps, according to a report that came out last week. so, we -- what we're looking at here is a -- the single greatest national security threat in our lifetime. now, we have some of the top former fbi officials. they joined together. they sent out a letter. and they have referred to this as an invasion of military-aged men. and the worst part about this entire story and we're probably going to watch joe biden tell the biggest lie on thursday night. he will try to blame republicans for his policies in the first 100 days of his administration he undid all of the successful
4:17 am
policies that he inherited from president trump as it relates to the border, stay in mexico, building the wall, et cetera. they even, at the time, alejandro mayorkas, the department of homeland security secretary, he was bragging oh, the list is so long of policies we rescinded. i don't even have time to list them all. but they have been telling us, the american people, in spite of what our eyes have been showing us, that the border is closed. that the border is secure. joe biden has said it. vice president harris has said it. mayorkas has said it. karine jean-pierre has said it. jen psaki has said it. steve, your son peter has been very vigilant in asking tough questions about it. >> steve: he asked about riley yesterday. >> sean: yeah. and i think -- look, i have been saying this -- and when i say i pray to god that i'm wrong, i really mean it, but the
4:18 am
possibility that people from our top geopolitical foes that we know are in the country are setting up terrorist cells within the united states, the odds, i would argue, are 100 percent. now, do i hope and pray that i'm wrong? all of us lived through 9/11. those images that day, those memories are ceda seared into or brains. we have now set ourselves up for another potential 9/11 or worse. we saw what happened with hamas, for example, on october 7th. it was awful. we could have 9/11, october 7th, or worse because of these policies. and there's no explanation for that. and for him to turn around after three years of lying saying it's closed and secure, that should be offensive to every single american because that is a flat out lie. >> steve: that is why immigration and migration is the number one issue. sean, thank you very much. we know you are awake at 7:00

journal's" national political reporter john mccormick who joins us right now. john, good morning to you. >> john: hey, good morning. >> steve: good job on the scoop. when did you learn that he had had processed what happened yesterday and decided to sack up their bats? >> john: yeah, well, i will answer that by saying i got about three hours of sleep last night. so it was well after midnight before we sort of had this nailed down, you know, caught some wind of it. i'm told her remarks this morning are going to be very brief like, maybe as short as like three or four minutes. this is not going to be like a long speech. i understand she is going to come out and make a statement. i don't know if she will take questions or not. but, you know, as you guys have reported or matched our reporting, she is not expected to, you know, make any kind of presidential endorsement this morning, which is unlike many of the other candidates who have, you know, dropped out of the race and then immediately endorsed trump. >> lawrence: john, is she saying
4:22 am
or are you hearing behind the scenes as you broke this story the why and the timeline. or if she even plans to endorse him in the future? is she gonna keep the pledge. >> yeah, i think, you know, an endorsement is certainly possible. i don't think she has ruled that out. i asked her about that in my own interview with her in michigan, i guess it was about a week ago. and you know, her take on that is that the rnc is now different than it was when she made that pledge. the situation is different. trump did not sign the pledge himself to endorse her if she was the nominee. so she is making that point. but she also says, you know, she, you know, she obviously does not like trump as the nominee, but she says she has even graver concerns about joe biden. if you read between the lines, i can't envision a scenario where she endorses joe biden. i mean, that's just not going to happen. but, you know, whether or not she endorses trump, i think we will have to continue to watch
4:23 am
and just how, you know, strong an endorsement it would be if she makes one will also be very interesting to monitor. >> ainsley: john, when did she make the decision? what time was it? midnight when you were talking to someone on her team or when was it? >> i was told very late yesterday and that, you know, it was still not absolutely, you know, cast in stone until after midnight. you know, we had the scoop, you know, set to publish at 6:00 a.m. but i very much had my phone at my bedside all night long because i was told there still was a possibility that, you know, there would be a change in direction here if there was some additional late results that she saw, you know, that changed the point of view on the situation. >> brian: you know, the other thing is she really didn't want to lose. it might have seemed inevitable to the score keepers but it didn't seem inevitable to her. in your writing you haley won't endorsement. expect to have a key for
4:24 am
conservative causes. she want trump to do the same. to go for some of the people that have not voted for him. >> she is thinking about her party and winning still, correct? >> john: yeah. i mean, the role that she plays with the party going forward is going to be interesting to watch. she has, obviously, alienated herself in, you know, with a lot of the trump base. you know, she -- you know, has had a fair amount of hostility directed towards her since she started becoming more critical of the former president starting really around the iowa caucuses. >> steve: right. >> john: yeah. i think she wants to remain a voice in the party but this is very much donald trump's party. and i think she knows that at this moment. >> steve: to that point, john, you know, if we look to an endorsement, if you were attacked by donald trump as she was, you know, repeatedly called bird brain and then he jabs her husband, who is serving our nation, that makes it personal. and that could be why she is in
4:25 am
no hurry. >> yeah. i mean, she likes to talk about, you know, her childhood playground lessons and that she dealt with a lot of bullying as a child because she was sort of different from most of the other folks in the south carolina community where she grew up. so she does not like bullies. she does not like being bullied. she does feel like she was bullied by trump. his tendency to call names and make personal attacks has not helped the situation here. the two of them have had a complex relationship, you know, have the very beginning. >> steve: that's polite. >> haley was critical of him in 20 is a-2016. joined the administration and critical since. they have had a very much back and forth relationship since. >> lawrence: criticized his mental acuity as well. suggested he was similar to joe biden. >> steve: unstable. >> john: yes, that is a claim that she has made and too old for the presidency like joe biden she has said. >> brian: she does reference, as you put in your column margaret
4:26 am
thatcher. margaret thatcher would not let names bother her that's why she got the name iron lady. the other thing that is important, everyone is trying to get inside her head and figure out what's the plan? how can you think about the next day she is 52 years old. do you believe there was a plan? i talked to ron desantis three weeks ago he said what he finds surprising she seems to have pivoted and now gone for the anti-trump vote is not enough to get you the nomination. he wondered what kind of game plan that was. do you sense there is a big plan, a long-term plan? or is it just acting on ins instinct? >> i think largely acting on instinct and the situation that she found herself in that she was in this very crowded field with so many candidates, you know, and she knew -- she didn't want to be critical of trump too early on because she felt she sort of become the chris christie candidate and we all saw what happened to chris christie. once it became two person race she did turn much more negative,
4:27 am
much more critical of trump. i don't know what they're thinking is on 2028. it will depend a lot on what happens to trump in 2024. if he wins the presidency, she could be in the wilderness for a while here. if he fails to win the presidency, maybe the party talks about, you know, do we need to change our tone? do we need to change our message? and she could be at the front of the line of people who said i told you so. >> ainsley: why she stayed in longer. you are right. >> steve: can i ask you a question about her donors? she raised $12 million in february. are her donors, are they republicans going to fund now donald trump or were they anti-trumpers? >> i mean, i don't have like specific data on that. hard to quantify that i'm sure somebody will do a thorough analysis on that once we get a couple more fec reports. some of her donors were democrats. some of her donors were anti-trump. some of her donors, you know, are loyal republicans who just
4:28 am
like her foreign policy stance. they like how pro-israel she is. and, you know, those folks you can see coming into the trump lane and, you know, trump and the rnc are going to very much be if fundraising mode starting in the next few months and throughout the summer. and all of those haley major donors i'm sure will be getting phone calls and emails. >> brian: john, you got follow. i'm sure we will find something for you to do. see you in the lunchroom. thanks so much for joining us, congratulations on the "wall street journal" scoop. >> thanks, we got to get our story built out here quick so i appreciate it. take care. >> ainsley: all in the same building. >> steve: release 6:00 a.m. could you release at 5 minutes before 6:00 a.m. we had to redo the show on the fly. >> sorry, guys. >> lawrence: thanks, john. >> ainsley: great reporting john. good scoop. >> john: thanks, bye-bye. >> lawrence: with the trump-biden rematch all but guaranteed biden faces questions over the significant numbers of uncommitted voters. let's bring in tulsi gabbard, fox news contributor, former presidential candidate. okay, so we see it's not just
4:29 am
the uncommitted but it's the pro-hamas wing of the democratic party right now. how big of a concern is that? i know everybody is talking about the drama in the republican party, but it looks like your former party has a problem on their hand. >> i would say they have a pretty big problem because more and more americans are recognizing what a failure the biden-harris administration's policies are for the american people. this is not something that's limited to republicans, independents and democrats who are very frustrated with the most basic things. you mentioned a few of the groups who have made it very vocal stand against the president because of their policies, this pro-hamas wing of the democratic party as you put it. but, you know, there are folks across the country recognizing that this administration has stood for an open border policy, that's made our communities less safe and causing incredible pressure on our country with
4:30 am
millions of people illegally entering our country. they are recognizing as we are seeing in some of the election results last night at the local and the state level, recognize that the defund the police policy of this administration has failed horrifically, recognizing that they there are very real consequences to their lives, the safety of their kids, their kids' opportunity and that has come about as a direct result of the failure of this administration. and so that's the real debate and that's the real truth that i hope continues to come out between now and november. there's a clear choice in this election for all americans, regardless of their party affiliation. >> brian: tulsi, you are the political expert, but sometimes you have a great plan and other times issues come your way. for the longest time president trump says sanctuary cities were a huge problem. tried to ban them. everyone said you are a horrible person who doesn't like minorities. guess what the white house said over the last few days it's time for ice to cooperate with local authorities. really? isn't that interesting.
4:31 am
now the border is broken they're just deciding who broke it. now see crime overriding the cities. now the anti-cop attitude has switched to a pro-law enforcement attitude because of the results of the policies we have been forced to deal with. how much of the issues of america have come back to trump allowing him to get this victory? >> tulsi: the biggest issues on the mind of americans today are revealing the contrast between what biden has done to this country and what -- where we were as a country under president trump. you know, i think a lot of the exit polls show that the foremost issues on people's minds are the economy and the border. the border security. and on both of those issues there is such a huge contrast between the record of president trump and the record of president biden with president trump. we saw the economy in a great condition. we saw a crackdown on our border security and the exact opposite
4:32 am
coming from president biden. so this is -- one of the things that i hope people are recognizing is how offensive the biden-harris administration's approach is to the american people where they can advocate for these policies for the last three-plus years and now all of a sudden policies that have made our country worse, not better, made our way of life worse, not better. now all of the sudden flip a switch and think we are so stupid to believe the lies that they are telling us now. >> brian: they pretend it didn't happen. >> tulsi: just to get our votes. >> steve: tulsi, the breaking news is that the stage is now set for trump-biden rematch because even though he trounced nikki haley yesterday, she apparently, you know, is going to at 10:00 this morning down in charleston is going to announce she is suspending operations. what's your observation about her dropping out, and where do the republicans -- i know you were a democrat then independent. >> ainsley: and ran for

president. >> steve: right, exactly. how do -- how does donald trump, for instance, get those independents and some democrats, to vote for him over joe? >> tulsi: i think let's just first recognize what happened last night. she made her pitch to republican voters and what we saw was a resound region jection of what that pitch was, what she stood for. they talked a lot about normalcy, a return to normalcy. well the normalcy she was advocating for continuation of making sure we had a government of by and the rich and powerful and not of and by the people. it was dangerous costly neocon war mongering policies ruled over washington so long. the american people have had enough of that. i think it's more about recognizing where the american people on these most important issues that are not exclusive to the republican party or the

democratic party or independents. it's about recognizing what is in the best interest of the american people and how do we best enact those policies. and i think president trump has the opportunity and is continuing to focus on those issues that people are most concerned about. >> ainsley: there is some talk that many in the party would like to see you on the ticket to be his vice president. what's your response to that? >> tulsi: i'd be honored to serve our country in that way and be in a position to help president trump actually solve these very, very serious problems that we're experiencing both here at home as it relates to border security, as it relates to our economy, as it relates to public safety, as well as the serious national security and foreign policy challenges that we face. there is so much at stake in this election. we cannot allow the democrat elite, the biden-harris administration continue to destroy our rule of law, our
