and has told lies. >> brian: case closed? >> i don't think so. it doesn't add up to me. we talk about 4 1/2 million dollars. talking about state of california where sports gambling is still not legal. unlike the last story this involved a bookie. the bookie had to believe that shohei ohtani was placing these bets or he never would have given 4 1/2 million dollars out in credit because the translator here, the interpreter makes 250,000, 300,000 a year. so somewhere along the lines this bookie believed this. if this actually occurred he should go to prison for years. there is a lot more to come here. >> brian: we'll listen on radio and watch on outkick. that's it for us today. follow me on radio from 9:00 to noon. stay within yourself. here is dana and bill. >> the whole bridge just fell

6:02 am
>> dana: let's go to griff jenkins on the scene in baltimore. what did you learn this morning, griff? >> good morning, dana. we've learned the divers are in the frigid water as we speak now on a recovery mission with all six presumed now dead. to recap we know a total of eight people went in the water, two were rescued. six were lost. all were construction workers. a short time ago we were able to speak with maryland governor wes moore to talk about the quick action of the maryland transportation officials trying to put the word out to close the bridge. i asked him whether or not those construction workers were also warned. here is what he had to say. >> we warned workers, stopped traffic. kept cars from coming on the bridge. had these police officers and law enforcement officers not done that was whoa was a catastrophic incident would have been more catastrophic. >> as you look now at live

pictures, the recovery effort continues but also the thoughts about how they get this debris and remove this fallen bridge out of the port to reopen it. it's costing $15 million a day for the port closure. some 140,000 jobs tied to it. governor moore sending out the best to them. the ntsb chair now on thou trying to open this investigation. here is a little bit of what she had to tell me about what they've gotten so far. listen. >> we do have the voyage data recorder right now, which we've sent back to the lab. it records everything from speed to location of the vessel. so we will be able to share what happened through a timeline of events leading up to the striking of the bridge. >> so a significant development there that they have black box, if you will. much like an airplane. the ships have data recorders.

their incumbent and his strength this coming fall. anyone that they view as maybe a threat to him or to get some votes that in their mind should go to joe biden. he is not entitled to anyone's vote. they'll try to disqualify that person . try to disqualify him and a bad selection to voters? that's fair game in politics. make an argument. i think he is significantly to the left of joe biden on key issues like the environment, government healthcare, etc. democrats can make the case. what i find interesting is the the stories about this army of lawyers the democratic party is getting ready to unleash across the country to try to block ballot access to r.f.k. and no labels and others in key states. i find it fascinating that the party that fancies itself and positions itself as pro-democracy is going to behind the scenes fight to have less
6:07 am
democracy in some of these states, fewer choices for voters on behalf of democracy they would argue. tough sell. >> dana: nbc news had a poll that said support for r.f.k., jr. could get up to 25% of voters. this was from the dnc call saying we can't afford donald trump to be back in the white house, which is what is going to happen if people don't see rfk. donald trump with a kennedy name on him. dnc have a formal effort to go after him. the trump pac also went after r.f.k., jr. yesterday. >> i'm not surprised by that because there are at least some trump-adjacent people. a know a few of them flirting with rfk as a candidate and dipping the toe in the water. they like some of what he has to
6:08 am
say. he is hard left on other positions. they didn't know that. there will be an effort by both major political parties to define r.f.k., jr. as negatively as possible. he has plenty of fodder for them to go after in my opinion. he is running as an independent. i feel if both sides are attacking him to some extent that will burnish his credentials and the polling shows especially this year. >> dana: do you think his vice presidential choice might have hurt him. i can think of no one more qualified in the united states to take on this role? >> that's political. he said he can't think of anyone in the whole country more qualified to be vice president and therefore to be president than someone that none of us with all due respect have ever heard of. it was his selection. she is a progressive. now they have their ticket and i would say if you have an issue with it and don't want them to

rachel maddow applauding the decision to fire mcdaniel days after signing her on. there was a rare on-air revolte by most of its top talent. >> a person close to mcdaniel said she had no idea she was getting the boot from nbc until she heard about it from the media. imagine that. this morning she has not officially heard from the network. mcdaniel was ousted after major outrage from msnbc hosts. rachel maddow was pushing hard for nbc news to drop mcdaniel, watch. >> you wouldn't hire like a wise guy, you wouldn't hire a made man like a mobster to work at a d.a.'s office, right? i find the decision to put her on the payroll unexplainable. >> nbc news stressed the importance of having a voice that ronna's an their team.

>> bill: we have an update on sean diddy combs denying any wrongdoing. from los angeles william lodge brings us up to date. what is this all about, william? >> well, combs' lawyer says his client is innocent and the fed's raise on monday. the ambush prepared and coordinated media president leads to a premature rush to judgment of mr. combs and nothing more than a witch hunt based on meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits. so the warrants by homeland security follow four lawsuits filed by women alleging sexual assault. one by a minor. u.s. attorney's office in new york is handling the case against the billionaire
6:19 am
singer/songwriter. last month a music producer rodney jones also accused combs of sexual abuse. in that case he claims mr. combs had hidden cameras in every room of his home. has recordings of several celebrities, artist, music executives and athletes engaging in illegal activity. they were recorded without their knowledge or consent. he possesses compromising footage of every person who has attended his parties. also identified in the lawsuit is brendan paul seen here and described in the documents as combs' personal drug mule and weapons man. monday miami-dade police arrested paul for cocaine possession at the executive airport in miami where it also showed combs walking around before he flew somewhere in the caribbean. they released paul on bail. criminal charges may or may not be coming against combs but the

warrants sought video, photographs, audio recordings to substantiate the claims against him. he said he is innocent of the awful things being alleged. >> bill: william la jeunesse in los angeles on that update today. >> dana: our next guest was on the scene of yesterday's bridge collapse in baltimore where he thanks first responders for risking their lives. pete buttigieg is here and glad to have you. thank you so much. all of us were talking about how tragic it is for the families who are awaiting word about their loved ones working on that bridge who are presumed dead. we think about them. we also are thinking about all the other people affected in baltimore who can't get to work today and it will be sometime before they can and the supply chain issues here. we can put it on the screen for people. the port of baltimore is very busy, 2023 stats. a lot of cruises come out of there with about 450,000 people. 140,000 jobs connected to the
6:21 am
port. sir, what are your plans at this time? i know it's only been 24 hours, to reroute that and try to get the economy stabilized after a tragic accident like this? >> well, first as you noted our thoughts are with all of the families that were impacted, six families whose worlds have been completely changed and shaken overnight by what happened. our thanks are with the first responders who have done just incredible work. i had a chance to meet many of them yesterday, including drives as they came out of that cold water with limited visibility trying to save lives. no question in my mind that lives were saved by the quick response. as you said, we also have to prepare for the supply chain implications of this. the bridge itself carried about 30,000 vehicles a day. there are tunnels that work as alternatives but there will be some impacts on traffic. the other major concern right now is the port. one thing that's important to understand is the way that the
6:22 am
flow of cargo ships is handled is very different from something like air traffic control where if say a runway goes out or a problem at an airport and planes have to divert there is a single authority telling those planes what to do and where to go. it doesn't work that way with ocean shipping. different shippers, different ports, different terminals, different cargo owners under no requirement to talk to each other. but we've been using the relationships and some of the tools we have at the department of transportation to make sure that coordination does happen. we're talking about the biggest vehicle handling port in the united states. baltimore handles not just a lot of vehicle imports and experts in terms of cars, also a lot of farm equipment. you see at the moment you get close to that port and that's a very important part of our economy. those are some of our best exports. a lot of work in the next days and weeks. the ultimate goal is to clear that channel and get the port back up and running as quickly
6:23 am
as possible. it won't happen everynight. we have to deal with the implications. >> bill: you have to move fast. "wall street journal" reports contaminated fuel might have been part of that ship. the ship just died in the water there. the head of the ntsb said on cnn this morning that they will look and see whether or not dirty fuel played a role in this. is that where you are leaning right now? >> i can't speak to that just because the ntsb is independent in their investigation. what i will say they were on the scene right away. i saw the chair there yesterday as well as coast guard. so you have law enforcement, ntsb. i know they will look at every piece of evidence, every piece of information needed on the investigative side. at the department of transportation our focus is how do we get that bridge back up and deal with the consequences of it being down in the meantime. how do we get that port back up and running to deal with supply chain consequences in the meantime. >> bill: if you find it was
6:24 am
somebody on the ship not doing their job or on the port, i imagine they would bear the responsibility for it. the president said yesterday the federal government will pay for the entire cost of rebuilding. but if you find that somebody involved here was responsible, why not have them pay? >> there is no question that if the investigation determines that any private party or parties are responsible, they will be held accountable. but that can't be something that we're just waiting around for. we have to make sure we work now today to get this bridge back up and to get this port back open. that bridge took five years to build. we don't yet have an estimate on how long it will take to rebuild. the president made it very clear that every tool of the federal government needs to be available to governor wes moore as the state of maryland leads the work on the bridge and the port. we have to make sure that funding is not an obstacle and make sure we tear down any administrative barriers, too. it will require a lot of work
6:25 am
and do everything we can as a department that does not require an act of congress but we will also engage congress because we'll likely need their help to make sure some of the funding is in place. >> dana: that will probably -- i was reading today that is going to happen right away as soon as congress gets back and beforehand maybe they'll have it ready to go. you mentioned air travel and how shipping is different from air travel. a lot of passengers and travelers are rattled by all the stories coming out of planes especially with boeing and then this week we find out the ceo of boeing has decided he is out. he says the eyes of the world are on us and i know we will come through this moment a better company building on all the learning we accumulated as we work together to rebuild boeing over the last number of years. did you welcome the news that boeing ceo will be stepping down? >> we had a lot of concerns about what is going on inside boeing. the faa administrator talked about concerns that arose when he visited their manufacturing
6:26 am
facility. not just the day-to-day operations but really a question about culture. are they prioritizing safety? what we saw was a lot of focus on production. production is important, but the most important thing is safety. so what i will say is whoever is going to lead boeing going forward needs to lead boeing in a direction where culturally and operationally they are 1,000% on top of all quality and safety issues. faa has taken an extraordinary step of restricting how many aircraft they can produce isn't going to allow them to produce any higher numbers of aircraft until and unless they can demonstrate that they can do it safely. it has taken -- >> bill: just to follow up to get to dana's point. is it a good move the head of boeing is stepping down at the end of year? yes or no. >> i'm not taking a position on
6:27 am
a leadership choice inside a company. any leader at that company needs to lead it in a direction toward safety. i talked directly to the ceo about my concerns and our concerns on safety and our message to the leadership and to the board of boeing is to make sure that nothing comes higher than safety in their priorities. >> dana: do you think it's safe for everyone to fly right now? >> look, every time i get on an airplane, every few days, i know i'm participating in the safest mode of travel in the world and that is only kept safe by the continuous, intense, rigorous attention of so many professionals of safety regulators and the faa. the faa will not allow anything to happen that is not determined to be safe. which is part of why we have boeing under such a microscope right now. >> bill: thank you for your time. we have more questions, we hope you have more time very soon. thanks for coming on today. >> dana: thank you.
