breathe something of a sigh of relief. this morning after a successful interception of hundreds of missiles and drones . those were unleashed by iran, sending that arsenal in retaliation for the april first attack on the iranian consulate in syria that also housed iranian military assets. hello, everybody. i'm jonathan hunt, live in los angeles. it is, of course, daylight now in israel, where they are assessing the damage following iran's first ever direct military assault on israeli territory. that damage appears to be minimal, with israel's air defense systems along with us military action taking out. we are told 99% of the iranian drones and missiles that were fired. but the message iran wanted to send is very clear together with our allies and partners, we are
11:02 pm
operating at a at we're operating at full force to defend the state of israel and the people of israel. we will continue to fulfill this mission. the white house continues to monitor the situation very closely. president biden has been in contact with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu, and mr. biden released a statement late saturday night saying in part, quote, at my direction to support the defense of israel, the us military moved aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region over the course of the past week. thanks to these deployments and the extraordinary skill of our service members, we helped israel take down nearly all of the incoming drones and missiles. for the very latest. now on this unfolding situation , let's turn to fox news correspondent stephanie bennett. live from london. stephanie. jonathan. yeah it
11:03 pm
was a real team effort that seemed to be succeeded tonight. of course, more than 300 targets were intercepted. the idf just released by the israel defense system, along with their allies. videos show explosions and fireballs over jerusalem as israeli air defenses worked to defeat iran's unprecedented attack. now the idf, as you mentioned, said 99% of the drones or missiles were shot down before they entered israeli airspace, some of which were launched from iraq and yemen. the idf also claims that not a single cruise missile entered israeli territory. israel's minister of defense praising their international partners tonight, saying our support from international allies was always tight, but tonight it was unprecedented. we have thwarted the most significant wave of the attack, and we did so successfully. israeli air defenses with support from the us, jordan and the uk, intercepted many of those
11:04 pm
drones and some cruise missiles over syria, iraq and jordan before they reached israel. about 2 a.m. local time, the u.s. shot down approximately 70 iranian drones and multiple ballistic missiles. now, the uk also sent raf jets to the region. there was slight damage. we're hearing to the infrastructure of an air base, but reports show it did minimal damage. of course, after a busy last few hours, u.s. defense officials say it appears the attacks have paused for now. israel's minister of defense saying the campaign is not over yet. we must remain alert and attentive and must be prepared for every scenario. this, of course, is the islamic republic's first ever direct attack on the jewish state, raising the risk of a broader regional confrontation. ian to surely ensue. the israeli prime minister, benjamin netanyahu, took to social media, saying we were intercepted in our break together, we will win. once the drones set off, of course, they took a few hours to travel from iran over to israel, so everyone had a brief heads up to prepare and to get in place.
11:05 pm
but that attack, as you mentioned, was imminent after an israeli air strike earlier this month in the iranian embassy over in damascus in syria. so this attack was imminent, and we were thinking it could have happened any moment this weekend, and it surely did. now of course, this is a developing story. we'll continue to bring the latest when we get it. jonathan and steph presumably the united nations is going to do some thing, however meaningful or meaningless that might be. what do we know about the un at this point? yes, that is exactly right. they are set to convene tomorrow for an emergency meeting that's going to be around 4:00 eastern time. now, the meeting was requested by israel, who wrote a letter to the council's president, and they said that they were accusing iran of violating the international obligations, of being the architect of instability for years against its its proponents there. jonathan. steph, thank you. we'll be very interesting later
11:06 pm
today, later sunday, to monitor what the chinese and russian delegations means, of course, at the united nations have to say about this. their comments will be, well worth listening to. the white house, of course, has already been speaking out. politicians on capitol hill also doing so monitoring the situation in israel. for more on political reaction to all of this, let's turn now to fox news correspondent chanley painter. hello, chanley. hello, jonathan. here in the u.s, the white house releasing a statement from president biden condemning iran's attack, attacks against israel. the president spoke on the phone with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu to, quote, reaffirm america's ironclad commitment to the security of israel. the statement goes on to say the president will convene with fellow g7 leaders to coordinate a united diplomatic response. later today. meanwhile, former president trump addressed the attacks at a campaign rally in
11:07 pm
pennsylvania. watch i want to say god bless the people of israel. they're under attack right now. that's that's because we show great weakness. this would not happen. the weakness that we've shown is unbelievable, and it would not have happened if we were in office. you know that. they know that. everybody knows that. but america prays for israel. we send our absolute support to everyone in harm's way. iran's actions are also garnering reaction from members of congress on both sides of the aisle, including from the house majority leader, steve scalise, announcing that the house will now refocus this week's agenda from themed legislation to an aid package for israel posting, quote, the house of representatives stands strongly with israel and there must be consequences for this unprovoked attack. also, senate majority leader chuck schumer releasing a statement saying, quote, we stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of israel and iran's regime must
11:08 pm
take immediate steps to ratchet down their recklessly aggressive behavior. it can be expected schumer's stance to garner criticisms from republicans since just weeks ago, schumer took to the floor to condemn netanyahu, calling for new elections there in israel. but it seems now congress is primed to tackle bipartisan support legislation as soon as possible. jonathan chanley painter. thank you very much indeed. we're joined now by rabbi hiemenz from the chabad of bel air here in los angeles. rabbi, thank you so much for being with us this saturday evening here in l.a. sunday, of course, now, in israel. and let me first, rabbi, ask you simply for your reaction to this unprecedented iranian attack. we knew that this was coming. iran told us this is coming. the fact that they were telling it to us and they shot missiles, slow balls.
11:09 pm
it's like slow ball pitching. and they shot it, not just from iran, but from so many different places. they were testing. how well is israel's defense? it wasn't just an attack. they had to do something just to show face. but when they what they really did was, can we over whelm the system of israel 99. thank god for the beautiful systems that we have. but the beautiful thing is, is the shrapnel that falls from the sky. unfortunately, one child was hurt, but israel, literally with its allies, told iran, back off. and they now learned how we know how to defend does so. rabbi, given that they they, they the iranians have seen just how well israel can defend its air space from cruise missiles, from ballistic missiles, from these kind of drones. is that enough? should israel not retaliate
11:10 pm
militarily? israel always should preempt when they realize something is about to happen. whenever israel preempts, they win. we did it to the nuclear reactor in iraq. the whole world condemned israel. but behind the scenes they said, thank you. when we did a preemptive strike, the six day war, it was over in six days when america told us, do not preempt. before the yom kippur war, we took on too many casualties, and it goes on forever. you must understand israel has to recognize if they're about to be attacked. it's okay to do a preempt. now, does that mean that the entire region is going to blow up in flames? let's be honest, saudi arabia would like to see iran go down. some of the big players. look, even jordan joined in today to shoot down some missiles. iran is a cancer to many of the countries that live around them. the abraham accords is a is a thorn in the
11:11 pm
eyes of iran. there's a reason why many countries want to make peace with israel, but iran just did a little test. all they needed to do is save face. did you notice how many people you showed a video in the last hour? how many people were dancing in the streets in iran? i couldn't even see 200 people there. usually they have masses of people. the people of iran, believe it or not, are standing with israel. it's the regime that is controlling a lot. what goes on in iran. it strikes me to some extent. you talk about it being a test, a rabbi, but it strikes me to some extent that iran was almost not wanting to succeed here, that they telegraphed this. they then said, we're sending we're sending drones. they're going to take a few hours to get there. they know very well just how good israel's air defense systems is. and it does seem to me that there is an argument to be made that they just want to
11:12 pm
be able to say to their people whose information is limited by the regime, hey, look at us. we just fired 300 missiles and drones at the israelis. aren't we doing a great job in attacking israel? but they didn't really want to invite the huge retaliation that they could have got. had this attack been successful in any way. you're 100% right. the fact that we've knocked out 99% is a testament to technology. it's a testament to the will of our defense forces and also everybody has to realize we do have a god on our side. we do have a god on our side. with that being said, and i'm being very serious. besides having gotten outside, iran cannot get into a big war. and the reason why they cannot get into a big war, because they have too many countries around them that would literally like to go into a fight. if everybody else goes in, they know it. america does not want to get into a big war. they don't want to get into
11:13 pm
this, obviously, because it's an election year. they don't want to be an aggressor. what they would love to see is everything come down. if everything comes down, maybe the streets in america will calm down. so they're really trying. let's not. they told israel, don't go and retaliate. israel is going to do what israel has to do. rabbi i wonder you've just, completed shabbat, i wonder on friday night, as you sat down in for a shabbat dinner, what the conversation is like for israelis, for those of us, for those of us who are not israelis, those of us who are not jewish, how do you how do people feel with, given what israel has gone through for the last six months? and i know it's a lot longer, but for that but just the extraordinary trials of the last six months and now this, what were people talking about on friday night, friday, we knew that there was
11:14 pm
a threat, that something may happen. so around the shabbat tables all around the world was the following. number one, we're praying for the hostages. number two, there's frustration in jewish people all around the world. why hasn't america put pressure on egypt? get the millions of refugees that need a place to run out. just get them out the moment they're out of gaza, israel can finish the job in two weeks. boom. it's over, for the world wants hamas. so we pray to god for the safety of our hostages that are still there, not just the israeli ones. i'm an american for the americans and all the other ones that are there. the second thing was that we're all thinking about is what will iran do? and of course, after living through the holocaust just 75 years ago, many people have parents and grandparents who lived it, and they're talking at the table. oh my god, is this going to happen at my table today in the afternoon , we had the word coming in that there was 200 missiles. we
11:15 pm
found out later 300 missiles were coming in and everybody around the table going like this, what should we do? and i said, whoa, do not get scared. do not get upset. we do. and i actually said, we have a god. yeah. when the sabbath is over, watch what the news will be. and i'm so happy. rabbi man said, it's always wonderful to talk to you. we thank you for being here this late night here in l.a. and we will be back here on fox news with continuing coverage of iran's unprecedented assault on israel. we'll be back

very painful but also injurious to israel and the united states. why would hamas agree to a temporary cease-fire and release hostages if the message is again and again, hold on? get a couple hundred palestinians were killed in this war because that's what happened when hamas hides be timed civilians even though we are trying to avoid that and the united states and israel will break ranks and imposed cease-fire. the chromatically, it makes no sense. >> you cannot leave the terrorist organization together and headquarters so i think the prime minister made that clear, hopefully president biden understands that. thanks so much, appreciate it. joining us right now, former foreign policy advisor and genius of israel.
11:26 pm
this is unprecedented, we've never seen iran attack from their soil and go after with this type of velocity against israel. you heard him say it's a game changer, is that how you view it? >> we've known this circle of fair strategy toward israel, to using proxies around israel. hamas and the south, obviously the houthis, syria on israel's order so this whole strategy of having proxies terrorize israel revoking israel to respond to proxies never respond to erin directly. tonight change that, iran fired a massive barrage, they intended to hit israeli soil. in that sense i agree with ambassador will warren and puts israel and a new normal because unless israel now, there are
11:27 pm
encouraging things we saw but with that said, your response some way that's meaningful that runs the risk of normalizing this idea that iran can directly hit israel from its own soil. , now every and being able to launch what they watched tonight without any response would set a new precedent. >> they put out an immediate statement saying essentially iran's military reaction was a response to their aggression against the tip about preside presidents, it can be deemed concluded. everyone i've talked to set they've not concluded and you said it can't be concluded but it could happen worse. hezbollah started with their hundred thousand rocket arsenal at the same time and what hamas had left in the south and iran over the top, do you agree it
11:28 pm
could have been worse? >> it could happen but there was one other factor was critical, one that was extraordinary u.s. israeli cooperation in the recent days and have been quite critical including conversation with you on your radio show in recent weeks of the biden f ministrations distancing from israel, politically diplomatically the un, publicly in ways that i think send confusing messages to hamas and to iran that's been unhelpful. however, in recent days the administration has sent a strong message that the u.s. was locking arms with israel, the central command was in israel yesterday and i think the coordination between the u.s. military and idf has been deep and tight and i think there's a wonderful capabilities providing to israel that were important
11:29 pm
and the most important factor is we learned in the days ahead about very important and encouraging cooperation between israel and arab countries in the region, i think the damage that was done to israel present as minimal as it was despite the large garage by iran from limited damage was made in part because israel worked closely with saudi arabia, jordan and other countries in the region with real damage. >> the abraham accords were successful but iran was the problem in this a penetration said iran, let's pretend like it's old times and be friends. they locked in our face and everyone is paying the price. so much on a saturday night. appreciate it. meanwhile, we will monitor breaking news out of the middle east and over israel to see if the rockets have subsided.
