and governor justice will take on democrat mayor glen elliott. meanwhile, attorney general patrick morrisey beating out a crowded field hoping to succeed governor jim justice. he will go up against democrat steve williams. in maryland, former governor larry hogan winning the senate primary. he will face democrat angela, also brooks in the general election. and finally in nebraska. congressman don bacon is expected to survive his republican primary. state department sources telling fox news that reports claiming president biden is moving on a new billion dollars weapons deal for central are not accurate. saying the aide isn't new. >> brian: really? >> ainsley: this comes after the u.s. paused a shipment of bombs last week due to concerns about the jewish state planned ground invasion in rafah. anti-israel protests taking over the city university of new york graduate center last night. dozens of students protesters occupying the library and tried

renaming it after a university in gaza that was destroyed in the war. no arrests have been made but the majority of the demonstrators cleared out of the library within a few hours. to an amazing rescue. a florida boat captain jumping into the ocean to rescue a drowning young boy over the weekend. >> tell he was panicked, being swept off of the beach area, and he knew that he was just adrift. so i wanted to immediately jump in. i put him in a cross dress carry and i was calmly talking to him, trying to calm him down. and we just nice and easy took a swim towards the coast. >> ainsley: mayor adams needs to recruit him to be a lifeguard. the captain went on to reveal that he grew up as a lifeguard and has more than 50 rescues under his belt. >> lawrence: wow. >> ainsley: finally indiana fever rookie caitlin clark taking the court last night in one of the most behind debuts in

59% of the hispanic vote. now see the poll numbers we bring in are r.f.k. jr. can you see biden support has been cut in half since december. while trump's has increased by nearly 10 points. r.f.k. jr. getting nearly 20% of the hispanic vote. now let's take a look at young voters. donald trump is leading in this category by 3 points with young voters, one democratic pollster says, quote: all of the data consistently shows that our campaign needs to do better with younger voters, with black voters, and with hispanic voters, perhaps an effort to woo those black and young voters the vice president and on sherri shepard's show. >> i used to shop in california at a woman owned business and buy candles. i loved the smell of gardina and jazmine. >> gardina. >> when i became vice president she straight created a sense for me and that's what that is. >> who doesn't like the smell of jazmine. biden repeated the false claim about inflation telling yahoo i

think inflation has gone slightly up. it was at 9% when i came in now down around 3%. of course inflation was 1.4% when biden took office. inflation under biden has had an average rate increase of 5.5%. second only to jimmy carter of course who was not reelected, guys. >> brian: unbelievable, lucas, that at the will say something so dramatically wrong. brings up two questions does he not know it? did anyone tell him how wrong he is or number there what do i have to lose? i'm going to keep repeating it. >> lawrence: fact-checking it and he continues to say it. when the former president has anything or wants to have a campaign event they have to fact-check every single thing he says. >> ainsley: it was 1.4% when he took office. it was over 9.1% in june of 2022, a year and a half into his presidency. >> and today cheeseburgers cost $25 when you go five guys. that's what people are feeling.

>> steve: comes with a drink and also fries in a great big bag. lucas, thank you very much. this is what i worry about joe biden continually saying when i came in, inflation was 9%. maybe he forgot. >> ainsley: maybe. >> steve: maybe he forgot which just goes into the whole dynamic of, you know, the president has lost a step. he has lost a bunch of steps. that's why these piece are coming out right now talking about how people inside the biden bubble, they don't trust the polls. and the president doesn't trust the polls. but people in the larger democratic world are like come on, you got change tactics because you are behind right now in a bunch of these reliable polls and you are sleep walking into a disaster. >> brian: it makes you wonder why -- it makes you wonder what the president was going to say when he had his big economic speech about 12:00 yesterday in the rose garden. he came out and said i know the problem. it's china, which is bizarre because we know that that was trump's thing and everyone said

you can't do that it's our number one trading partner. trump was consistent. we are going to ter tariff them until they come on board. trade deal and pandemic hit and poisoned the world and never were accountable for it. this is will simple biden. trying to amend relations with china. he has a meeting in san francisco. they have meetings now defense inminister to secretary of defense, they are having all these rapprochements, and then he comes out and says i'm going to put 100 percent tariff on all their goods in a desperate attempt to win over the automakers in michigan, perhaps. i asked speaker johnson about his big speech today. he was in new york at the time. but he flew back to d.c. and here's what he said. >> everybody knows that bidenomics has ruined the economy. everybody knows that the cost of living is through the roof. china is a culprit in some of this as well. but the main culprit is the president and his policies. they have spent too much money. they have grown the size and scope of government.

and they have regulated some our industries almost to the point of extension. that is what has destroyed the economy. that's why inflation is so high. that's why the rising cost of living is the top concern for millions and millions of americans. brian, i have been in 102 cities now and over half the states over the last few months doing large events. and, you know, many events in all these places. no matter where we are, out west, the east coast, north, south, mid south, it doesn't matter. people have the same concerns. they are having a hard time getting by because of what joe biden and the democrats have done to the economy. and i think there's going to be a reckoning for that in november. >> lawrence: a couple things. i find it very interesting that the biden administration, whether it is the economy and our relationship with china or it's the border that suddenly that the president is having this big epiphany during an election year. >> brian: is he being aing like trump. >> lawrence: now all of the sudden he agrees with the trump policy or trying to act like it's his own. the second thing when it comes to the fact-check of the economy or bidenomics working, i would

are more concerned if the american people were buying it. but right now, poll after poll shows that not only are republicans upset, independents upset. but even democrats don't believe the president when he talks about bidenomics working. >> steve: you know, and there's an interesting piece that was just posted on "the washington post" in the last hour. it does talk about all the 308s. this is to your point, lawrence. it talks about how joe biden is trailing in the swing states. but, when you put joe biden up against a generic democrat running for senate, it's a different story. because, joe biden is pretty dlox tied with trump with young and hispanic voters. a generic democrat senate candidate in each of those states leads by 19 with hispanics and by 16 with young voters. and then then generic democrat leads by 59 points with black voters compared to joe's 49%. the generic democrat is ahead by

almost 20 points. so, in other words, voters are not b bulking at joe biden. he has been president for three years he and he has are not promised what he said he would do and people are poed. >> ainsley: trump is ahead. is he getting 46%. and biden is getting 43. look at the black voters in 2020. trump got 9%. now he is getting 23%. that's almost a fourth of the black voters like donald trump. although axios is reporting that joe biden and his closest advisers don't believe any of these polls. >> brian: right. it's going to be interesting because it's still close in all these places except for georgia and nevada. but, and he is making gains in these different categories but it's still close in the overall state. the other thing we talked about and the great equalizer the trump trials. put trump on trial to so much flatten any poll advantage trump might have. it has not worked out that way. i asked speaker johnson about why he started his morning in new york meeting with president

trump and then sitting in that room, that courtroom yesterday in new york city. why was that important to him? >> it was important as a show of support. president trump is my friend, and i think what is happening to him is outrageous. i mean, i'm a former litigator myself. what they are doing to our system of justice is undermining the people's faith in it because it's very clear what is happening here. this is lawfare. >> brian: he brought up something else interesting. people are saying where are his support errs he said i could not believe five blocks cordoned off makes trump seem isolated. >> steve: it's locked down. >> ainsley: i learned that yesterday from your interview. he said five blocks away they are blocking traffic, brooke, because they don't want anyone to see the trump supporters out there. brooke obviously is joining us now. she has more with where things stand when it documents this trial. brooke? >> house speaker mike johnson was the highest ranking attend court with the president. he called the case a sham. michael cohen's prosecution's

star witness was back on the stand yesterday. cohen has already admitted to telling several lies. first he testified about falsifying invoices to the trump administration to get reimbursed for his payment to stormy daniels by labeling it a $35,000 per month retainer fee. and he said he opened a bank account for a management consulting company but that was really used to make hush money payments to stormy daniels. that lie led to federal charges against him back in 2018. guys, he also admitted to using the jewish hollywood yom kippur to stall on paying daniels in 2016. he said that was in an effort to push the payment back until after the election when he said the story would no longer matter. now jonathan turley says cohen may have jeopardized himself by testifying. listen. >> one of the most impressive things about the last two days is that it does appear that cohen may have committed perjury again. you know, his explanations on various points do not strike some of us as true. brook brook legal experts over at cnn responding to cohen's

witnesses. >> brian: don't we have to find out what the defense wants to do? the defense has to put their case together. >> lawrence: exactly. they technically don't have to. this could be the end of it. >> steve: meanwhile, brian, great job down in washington observing national police week. and our next story is just such a slap in the face to america's law enforcement. you know, it's all about saluting our men and women in blue. remember january 27th. we showed you this video on january 28th. shocking on camera beat down of two police officers in times square who tried to break up a crowd. the guys -- all migs kicking the cops in the held and the body and they ran away. they eventually ided them and now according to the "new york post." six of the migrants have been charged. they have been offered plea deals rather than serving, you know, get the full blast for beating up cops, during national police week, they copped deals.

>> ainsley: "new york post" is reporting that six migrants connected with that attack in times square offered plea deals and daily mail saying five out of the seven. >> once we get those numbers confirmed we will be able to reports it. they are all from venezuela, and actually, one of them was arrested again while out on bail for larceny. petit larceny for -- i read for shoplifting macyens. >> steve: down at square last friday. >> lawrence: i'm not from the city. i guess i don't understand why they couldn't have a conversation with ice. get the federal charges going. and am i just talking about manhattan? but all the bureaus. i don't understand how you are prosecuting the former president and putting him on trial to up to 40 years in prison. you have people who actually assault cons and they get out for like they only serve six months. >> ainsley: that would be common sense, texas. >> lawrence: dexter taylor the

nurses and food deliverer he is, they would be great as lifeguards because they are really good swimmers. you can't make it up. here's the mayor. >> if we had a migrant and asylum seeker plan that states those jobs that are in high demand we could expedite, how do we have large body of people that are in our city and country that are excellent swimmers and at the same time we need lifeguards? and the only obstacle is that we won't give them the right to work to become a lifeguard. that's just doesn't make sense. >> brian: i can't poke holes in that plan it is flawless. [applause] >> steve: that's the wrong soundbite. we had the sound bites that showed that he has been flip-flopping. senator from the great state of missouri eric schmitt joins us now. senator, good morning to you. >> good morning. >> steve: so he was against tariffs before he was for them. what about what the president did yesterday during the noon hour was shocking to you? >> well, in addition to another, like, incoherent press conference and jokes that only the mainstream media there would laugh at, it's an about-face, right? like it's a total about-face. he criticized president trump for this. he is doing the same thing. what is interesting, steve, is what wasn't included in the action. there are two things i think are really important it. exempted gas powered vehicles from the tariffs. so he continues his sort of war on domestic energy production. war on american jobs.

he also we still have the ev mandate here. and so there is simply not the market in the united states for these electric vehicles. i'm sort of all of the above if that's what people want to do that's fine. but the subis i accommodation of this and mandates isn't working and hurting jobs. one of the reasons he is struggling in michigan because middle class workers are paying the price for this radical agenda. it's an about-face on the tariffs, that's true. but i think what is missing h here. >> steve: what you are saying is there is 100 percent tax on electric vehicles coming from china but there is no tariff on gas power powered cars coming from china. and to your point i think you hit it right on the nose, senator, you are talking about how he has got to win michigan, that's part of his firewall come november, what is he trying to do is trying to make sure that all those workers realize i have got your back you are saying he doesn't really have their back

because gas powered cars are okay. >> losing billions on evs, that's costing jobs. shedding jobs because of it. and also, by the way pushing critical minerals they are going to china because of the mandates. you can't source them here. you can't refine them here what we ought to be doing, steve, open up domestic energy production. we ought to be a net exporter of our energy, lng, everything, mining critical materials here. these are good paying jobs they help our industries. again we are way too reliant on china. he might say something in a press conference that sounds okay but the truth is his policies have been a total disaster. >> steve: sure. yesterday as well, he said when he took over inflation was 9%. that is -- that is a whopper. that's not true. it was 1.4%. it became 9% when all of that money that congress okayed flooded the market. and inflation went through the roof. and so that is one of the

reasons why you have -- they are going to vote on today in the senate, your congressional review act that addresses all of that covid money, right? >> yeah, that's right. so, this money is suppose god -- the spigot is supposed to stop at the end of 2024. it's hard to believe we are even saying that. when congress approved it a few years ago that was the end date. what the congress is trying to do extend that to have overtime now on spending becomes more beyond 2024 on bureaucratic expenses and legal fees. the legislation have up today that we will vote on say no, actually the law means something. you can't continue to be lawless administration number one and number two, inflation is sky high, the spend something out of control. this would save us at least $13 billion that the biden administration once again continue to spend. and at some point, i don't know, in washington maybe that doesn't seem like a lot of money to some people. where i'm from still count my money $1 billion is a lot of the money. over $1,200 per family. in this country. and so i think today is important day for us to kind of take a stand onto this reckless
