boring. think about it. boring is the unsung catalyst for bold. what straps bold to a rocket and hurtles it into space? boring does. boring makes vacations happen, early retirements possible, and startups start up. because it's smart, dependable, and steady. all words you want from your bank. for nearly 160 years, pnc bank has been brilliantly boring so you can be happily fulfilled... which is pretty un-boring if you think about it. >> i think we also remember memorial day for what it really is and that's all of our troops that have given their lives for freedoms. >> she's fabulous and it was great to have her today. absolutely. lots of fun. a good memorial day to everyone and thank you to our troops and veterans and all those we have lost. set your dvr never miss america reports. thank you for joining us.

>> as you celebrate this weekend remember those who give the last full measure of devotion to preserve our freedoms. i'm john roberts. the story with martha starts right now. >> martha: good afternoon. martha maccallum and this is the story here in new york city where former president trump came into the belly of the beast and told his supporters which was a larger crowd than people are expecting we are going to win. watch this. >> you want to make it big you have to be in new york. but sadly this is now a city in decline and i'm here tonight to declare that we are going to turn new york city around and we are going to turn it around very, very quickly. >> martha: speaking with people in deep blue bronx. a state the whole state of new york where republican hasn't won the presidential race and 44 years. ronald reagan did by 2% in 1980.

you see the former president throwing hats to the crowd last night. president biden willie new yorkn 2020. recent polling shows his lead in new york now is down to just 9-point so that's why you see trump fired up and interested in his home state where he was born and raised. here some of the coverage of last nights rally. interesting to hear this. watch. >> certainly a bigger crowd than democrats would like to see particularly given this is 1 of the bluest counties in the entire country. people saying he doesn't belong here. you should get out but she also had a number of people voters who told me they supported joe biden in 2020. very unhappy particularly with the state of the economy and they were looking for alternatives mainly former president donald trump. >> martha: let's bring in our panel quite travis, fox news little clandestine fleet brian is a former a former deputy assistant secretary of state for

exceptional. 1 of the things i think people have been talking about is don't believe the polls because of it shows him up with black supporters it's alive. it's a red herring. they been saying don't believe the data. don't believe the people you see on television that say they support donald trump and happened to be black or his stantec -- hispanic. the numbers don't lie the data doesn't lie. cnn polling this month showed trump was up with black voters 25% from 18 to 49 and when you look at that crowd the people that you saw were very young people black hispanic and older individuals but what i am saying is it's reflective in the date and he should continue to go new york chicago atlanta, baltimore. he needs to build a new bridge for the republican party. >> martha: if you were working on the joe biden campaign and watch this last night what would you tell them today out what they need to do? >> math i hope you know me well enough by now that i tried to call bulls and strikes. days you invite me on that i

dread the topic. when it's immigration i know we are in trouble. there's all sorts of things i try to put a brave face on but i admit there are problems. this is not 1 of them. if donald trump wants to go someplace where a couple of people couple thousand people come and want to see what he's like, some of who legitimately are interested in disaffected with what joe biden's doing characters equal number of people couple hundred people hundred feet away yelling at him while he's regaling the crowd about building an ice rink and golf course decades ago that's great and the only reason he's there's because he's on trial 100 blocks south have at it. what i would tell them last night is of donald trump wants to go to chicago and atlanta and do this kind of stuff have at it. he lost new york in 2016. he lost in 2020. you will lose in 2024. if he wants to run in 20282032 he will keep on losing. this is not the problem. >> i am really intrigued.
12:06 pm
>> i'm not dismissing. let's have a conversation. >> have you been around open cans of paint? those a completely delusional statement. what you're saying is not a fact check is not what the data is showing in this leaked just like you and many members of your party who say the black voters are out of reach for donald trump. what we said something different because joe biden jacked up the economy migrants have come into communities and drain resources and the fact the open border black voters are asking are they trying to dilute our votes by bringing these new people here newcomers? yes this is what's going on. you need to open up your eyes and see what's in front of you. donald trump is making a real play. >> martha: clay you raised i think on ask active thing biden could go into any deep red county and to get anywhere near this number of people to show up?
12:07 pm
>> i don't think he could and this is fun. great start to the holiday weekend here. i'm going down martha as soon as i finish this interview on getting in the car with my 3 kids and my wife. we're driving down to the florida gulf coast which i think is the best beaches anywhere in the continental united states. it's a deep red area south of alabama right on the panhandle with florida. joe biden couldn't get 200 people to show up at a rally anywhere along that florida gulf coast. >> 's new he was in new hampshire the other day and know what he was there. >> you get him to come down i will do the opening soaking at 5 people to show up. >> 45% of kansas voted for joe biden. >> may be he should go to kansas and get people excited. let me just jump in here. 1 of the things i noticed that i think is very interesting is what happened in 2016 was that
12:08 pm
trump went places where other people including hillary clinton wasn't going. he went to the rural areas in wisconsin and michigan and pennsylvania and i remember because i cover the race people saying we have not had a candidate come here in forever. nobody cares about us out here in the sticks. i think that's what he's going to do now. he's doing it in places that democrats take for granted and i think that's why you saw so many people shop last night. >> let me bifurcate before my twitter feed has the word smuggle over 500 times. there's a difference between what i think last night was a stunt and reading too much into it today and a realignment that's been going on for years but particularly we are seeing now. i'm not going to pretend to be an expert certainly more than anyone else in the panel about minority voting. but it's clear that it's eroding in terms of support from democrats. probably i think in simplest terms because in general the entire american electorate is coming down to very simple basic
12:09 pm
divisions between economy whether it's working for you are not. you just see certain groups coming to it slower because they have a certain more affinity or loyalty to 1 party or the other. that's very serious and that's when to continue to happen. joe biden would go to panhandle or to kansas or anywhere and he absolutely would get people there. we all know that. >> i don't know that. did you see new hampshire the other night? he went to new hampshire on the folks so is social distancing still going on because it's just a few people here. >> donald trump's crowds in 2020 were huge. i happen to be an expert on minority voting. i am black. i know it is being said. even if you think yesterday's event was symbolic there's black folks and hispanic people all
12:10 pm
across this country who silently support trump who are thinking about support trump, seeing all those people are you seen rappers and all kinds of folks. they're going to say maybe i should get out and get vocal. >> and they are black people outside the park yelling at them to get out of there. >> i'll say 1 thing. >> they had 4 years of trump and did nothing for them. >> 4 years of biting and they are suffering. >> we are divided nation. every community. >> i was watching on all the different channels the coverage entered reporters on a number of channels say i kind of came here thinking it would be a bunch of so-called meghan people blasting here but these people are from the bronx. i thought that was interesting. >> i don't think anyone question that. they did. they're going to check people in from outside and they are going to bring them out so we are going to talk to actually folks were there last night. >> at that there's too much being read into it.

what was that part of the jury doesn't need to have a unanimous decision? >> so the way the prosecution is proceeding with this case they've obviously alleged business records fraud and they are alleging that business records fraud was intended to cover up another felony offence. that's what under new york law turns his offences from misdemeanours into felonies. the judge based on the instructions that have been agreed on in court doesn't seem inclined to require the jury find unanimously what the underlying offence, the offence the records fraud was intended to cover up was. we believe that's a mistake in ruling by him under new york law i think that's a real problem. >> martha: wait a minute. is that because the underlying charge is a misdemeanour? >> it's because the predicate a fence i think the judge's

great to have you here today. what did you think about travis kelce's response 12 this? >> thank you for having me on. i thought kelsey's response was perfect. it was a breath of fresh air actually. is right when he says he doesn't have to agree with harrison on everything. what he said as he doesn't of the agree with him on anything that he said in his commencement speech but he still can respect his beliefs and his values. that's what americans do or at least that's what historically americans have done and that's what makes this country the greatest country in the world and 1 other thing that i loved is that kelsey spoke with his character as a person and as a teammate which is something the media has not done. they have vilified but karen made him out to be an awful person sexist who embraces dangerous and harmful ideologies so great to see his team mates defend who he is as a person. it speaks to their team culture which is certainly a large intruding factor i would imagine to their success as a team.

>> martha: let's hear a little of what jason kelsey who used to play for the eagles. he's retired now. what he had to say in the conversation. >> i don't think we have enough people talking of the foundations of families and the importance and the seriousness of parenthood. if you are going to embark on being a parent i think it needs to be the most important thing in your life. if your kids are not the most important thing in you and your wife's life you are failing. >> i think this has really provoked a lot of conversation that needs to be had and i would imagine 40 years ago lots of graduation speeches said to young women in the audience look everyone tells you have to get married. you have to have a family but you need to do what's best for you professionally. and that was the big message for many, many years, and i think in a way this is about the pendulum that maybe we need to do a little bit more of think about what is foundational to society as jason brings up.
12:51 pm
what are your thoughts on that? >> i agree on the bottom line here is but her as a devout catholic was delivering a commencement speech at a catholic university to a bunch of catholic graduates. i have been perplexed as to how this is managed to get the backlash that it has and the coverage that it has for nearly 2 weeks now. so i agree and thank it speaks to have the pendulum has swung. i think both the kelseys responses and no andy reid the coach of the chiefs we seen patrick mahomes come out and defend harrison butker. at the gets a clear indicator of why sports and politics should not intersect in a way that they have whether it is this issue or the trans issue or kneeling for the anthem or what have you politics in it's nature is divisive but sports isn't meant to be. sports are meant to be unifying. to abandon identities and you worked together to accomplish our goals so all of that to say

let's bring doctor nicole safire cancer centre and while cornell associate professor and fox news contributor. you see that chart of what's happening in the country and during that period we have so much legalization of pot all across the country. what do you think about this? >> this survey comes over several decades looking at 1.6 million people and while more people still consume alcohol, what we are looking at is the high-frequency drinking compared to high-frequency cannabis use. and what the data is starting to show is arising cannabis use is being driven by the younger populations gen z and the facts 33% of all americans live in a state where cannabis is legalized. we try to compare and contrast cannabis to alcohol, the reality is there's no safe amount of either of them. they both have mind altering effects in physical and mental consequences. the thing is with alcohol we have decades with the research.

it's well documented the short and long-term consequences of alcohol. when comes to cannabis we don't have nearly as much research. we had a big paper come out in 2024 showing 25% increased risk of heart disease and about 40% risk of stroke and regular cannabis users. there's also data showing the younger adolescents young adults it really can affect the brain development can compare their memory brain development and also impulse control and. so for me it's a little scary with the increased use of cannabis because we don't have that information. 1 thing the biden administration is doing, they recently submitted to change cannabis from being controlled substance 1 which is like heroin or lst were there's no medical use for, to a controlled level 3. -controlled level 3 will allow more research and funding to know the effects but if more people using we are going to see those consequences. i hate that we have to wait for data when we will oversee people having that. >> martha: i was talking to
