>> carley: jessica farrell is the woman you saw in that video johnny and she joins me now. tessa, we're so sorry for your loss and thank you so much for remembering johnny. let's start there. tell us about him and how you will be remembering him. >> i know this is such a devastating strategy. and i'm in such an impossible situation because i reconnected with his family and they are in extreme pain right now. we are trying to navigate focusing on his investigation and steering away from our past relationship. but i will always remember johnny as incredible human being who forever altered the course of our life. is he a huge loss to humanity. >> carley: you say you think he found happiness before he was killed and that's wringing you peace. he also wasn't alone when he died. he was with a co-worker who he may have actually shielded.

is that your understanding of what happened? >> yeah, that's my understanding. i got a personal phone call saturday the day that it occurred. when i spoke with his family earlier we don't want to have multiple narratives going on while there is the active investigation. i have to refrain from giving too many details from what i know at this point because we want to make sure that everything stays clear as we move forward. but, yeah, it's my understanding that he wasn't alone when it happened and he did shield her from the gunfire. >> carley: my goodness, yeah. a lot of details are unclear because this just happened. and it's shocking and you're in grief and our heart goes out to his mom. i know he has a brother as well. his whole family. what can you tell us, tessa, about what police are saying to you about who might have done this? >> well, yeah, at this point, you know, i kind of promised their family, you know, his family that i wouldn't, you

know, be too involved in it because they are still trying to figure out and get more information right now i don't think they have enough of what they need so we are asking that if anyone knows anything to please submit a tip to the anonymous hotline. what we do know is that it happened, i think, right outside level 8, south hope street and picco boulevard around 3:00 a.m. saturday morning. if anyone knows anything, please speak up. at this point they are still trying to get surveillance footage of the area if there is any and i'm trying to not get too, too involved. just kind of let them do their job. >> carley: through your grief you said a lot of honest things on social media. human life is disregarded too easily. that's one of the things you said. you said it's time to make a change. and you talk about the amount of crime and crams out on the streets, what sort of changes, tessa, do you think need to be made? >> yeah, i mean, this is a property crime issue that's not being prosecuted correctly.

and it's turning the justice system into a turn wheel for criminals are becoming more brazen and more violent and it cost johnny his life. we need proper prosecution for criminals. because, you know, stuff like this is turning into gunfire and it's been going on for a while. there is test happening all the time. and, you know, i'm hoping that we do something so this does not keep happening. we can't keep losing more people to this. >> carley: tessa, we are so incredibly sorry for your loss. we know it's difficult to talk about this on tv after such an immense tragedy takes place in your life. but we're going to remember him very well because of the words you said. tessa, thank you so much for joining us. we appreciate it. we'll be following this story. >> thank you. >> carley: you're very welcome. it's a tough one. and life is fragile and things can end in the blink of an eye and there is the crime element that's involved in this as well. >> todd: senseless tragedy. >> carley: "fox & friends" starts right now. ♪ ♪
