escalated among my democratic sources when the president fumbled a layup question on abortion and his answer veered into an answer on immigration. immigrant one democratic official texted me simply the race is over. another very well-connected democratic source told me all. this the house and senate are the g.o.p.'s for now. everyone is freaking out. he needs to go, but no way they replace him unless he agrees. another person called it an unmitigated disaster. politico seems to be hearing the same. their headline reads dems freak out over biden's debate performance. biden is toast. one prominent operative texted time for an open convention. now, after the debate. the president dropped by a rally where the first lady's supportive comments came off as somewhat of a participation award. she told the president he did a great job and quote answered every question. on the way to the airport, he

stopped at a waffle house in atlanta telling customers i think we did well and this morning the campaign is circulating a list of trump's quote: lies and leaning on what they call live tracking of the debate that showed trump support took a hit when he didn't clearly state that he would accept the results of the election. but, broadly, this was a problem for biden whose biggest assignment was to silence questions about his age and deliver answers that people could relate to on his big vulnerabilities, the economy, and immigration. i will say before tonight, any talk among my sources about potentially swapping out the president was wholly dismissed, but democrats now seem resigned to the fact that they have a problem. they have very little that they can do about it because unless the president decides he is going to step down he is the party's presumptive nominee. of course, the first lady also has a lot of sway. this is a president who has no love for his predecessor and ego would be a challenge to overcome

in a decision like that. you are getting incoming. every pottery from democrats in the party right now who are really struggling to figure out what happens next and tossing around theories will what went wrong and how it went wrong. >> jacqui, can i ask you, is there going to be a press event today in the president has been mia for over a week preparing for that horrible performance. we know he has got a cold. is there going to be -- are we going to see kjp today? >> no. the president still traveling but we're going to be likely getting our first answers next week when the briefings should resume. we have been all week long, the issues keep existing president not here. we haven't had a lot of time to interface with the administration. today i'm watching the gate and seeing everyone's faces as they come in.

and sort of using that as my best metric for what the mood in the white house is. because i think that they are not going to be too eager to take any questions any time soon. they got to figure out what their answer is going to be, guys. >> brian: make the lawn mower louder. >> jacqui: get us out of here. >> ainsley: thank you so much, jacqui. >> lawrence: let's bring steve back. in i want to throw this to you because jake sherman who worked on capitol hill said that there's a lot of conversations that's been had over these last seven hours, he said he has been speaking with a lot of the democrats and said biden didn't even clear the lowest bar for them. the conversation is now going -- they say they like him on policy. but, for democrats running down-ballot, this is incredibly a serious problem. so, what are you hearing from your sources in the democratic party? >> steve: well, you know what? i was just actually talking to a democrat. we will talk to her in just a moment about the potential for bringing in somebody at this stage of the game, but keep in

mind, the rules last night and the start date, that was joe biden's idea. and so they rolled him out and at that time we talked a little bit about well, you know, if he has a bad performance, then they would have time to recover. there is no recovering from what we saw last night. you know, i think we witnessed essentially in real time the end of an american presidency. because, when joe biden was asked those questions and as jake and dana were asking the question he had that thousand yard stare where he was looking off somewhere and it's like where is he? and it was very troubling. and so, for the down-ballot democrats they got to be sweating. let me put it that way. but, as we are about to see in this montage, there are a lot of people on the democrat side, forget about the republicans, they are universal, joe is

toast. there are a lot of democrats who say there is time to swap that guy out. big question is, will jill let them swap him out. watch this. >> this was a game changing debate in the sense that right now as we speak, there is a deep, a wide, a very aggressive panic in the democratic party. >> there are going to be discussions whether he should continue. >> no two ways about it. that was not a good debate for joe biden. >> that was painful. i love joe biden. i worked for joe biden he didn't do well at all. i think there is a lot of people who are going to want to see him consider taking a different course now. >> if they don't think we should sugar coat this, this was not the debate performance that the biden campaign team wanted or needed from this debate. >> i understand not feeling well and, you know, obviously, joe biden comes in with certain deficits. he has a stutter. that said, i was too was on the phone throughout much of the debate with obama, world people,

with democrats, my phone really never stopped buzzing throughout. and the universal reaction was somewhere approaching. >> this was a very bad night for joe biden. you are starting to see -- hear at least privately discussions among democrats about whether or not biden can effectively go on with this campaign. >> brian: you got -- go ahead. >> ainsley: conservatives have noticed that for a very long time. if you watch fox, we showed you him falling off the bike. we showed you him falling off the stairs and down the stairs. we continuously showed you. this because people are worried if he is -- if he is equipped to be the leader of the free world. so we have showed that but i'm wondering on the other channels if they are just realizing. this they have control of what they air, of what they show and they say that conservatives are doctoring videos? no, we are showing videos and they might not realize this is who he is. but the debate stage was the true test whosey country if not

not world was watching that debate last night and joe didn't do well. >> brian: claire mccaskill called a crisis former senator from missouri. joe biden said it's hard to debate a liar. nate silver came out and said. >> ainsley: a liar he? said border patrol union endorsed him the border patrol on x said no we would never do that nate silver said biden should drop out. freidman said he cried watching. he was weeping from i think lisbon which is -- who wouldn't be there during the debate for the "times." press to my knowledge just columnist. kristof liberal said he should leave. how does he leave? he controls all the delegates. 95% of them. he picks them not only do they choose him but he picks them to represent him. if he goes to the dnc, in august, and wants to do this. and jill wants to do this. nobody legitimately has leverage

over him not to do this. >> brian: such a good point, brian, from my perspective, not just him being on the ticket when it comes to democrats. it's what he is doing now. can he be president right now? who is making the decisions, someone that meets with him all the time house speaker mike johnson is going to join us now. mr. speaker, you saw what we saw, the whole country saw last night which was a mess. it was quite sad that we have our commander-in-chief doing that but you have been meeting with him behind closed doors before we got to see that publicly. i know some of the republicans are asking for the tapes of what the spun says well inend tending elderly man but could not stand trial. what has been going on with the president behind closed doors all these months that you have been speaker? >> listen, what you are hearing this morning this choruses of voices they are being forced to acknowledge the truth.

only one man on that stage qualified and capable of being president in the next term. and that's donald j. trump. we have been saying this a long time. i have spent a lot of time with donald trump. even as recently as last week. we are together all the time. talk all the time. i have spent time with president biden as well. it's not even close. you saw the greatest mismatch of a debate in the history of presidential debates. that's what we see here on capitol hill every single day. openly what they have known for quite some time. joe biden cannot be the president. >> steve: how many people were watching at home and got the headline that joe biden has defeated medicare which is such great news. that came out of nowhere. and mr. speaker, it's a matter of time until the people at the white house start saying you know, that joe biden you saw last night. that was artificially intelligence, you know, a deep

fake thing. that wasn't really him because, behind the scenes, as you know, he is just been a tiger have you hearing from any of your colleagues on the democrat side of the aisle, you know what? we can't say this in public but he has got to go because to keep him in this would be political malpractice? >> well, a lot of them are saying it to the media this morning. they have to acknowledge their constituents are saying these things to them, they can't hide this truth anymore. on every metric of performance last night donald trump won clearly on the issues on his temperament, on his stamina, the mental acuity. listen we live in dangerous times. american people are in panic mode about their own lives. they can't afford to put groceries on the table consistently. they are worried about the rising crime rates and the open border and weakness projecting on the world stage. all these things because we have a weak commander-in-chief. this is not a game. this is the most i'm telling you

it's good for us being able to fix all these great challenges that face us and we are ready to do it? >> mr. speaker, we weren't sure what to expect on the stage last night because joe biden has been practicing for the last 10 days, camp david. so he walks out very slowly. his voice instantly raspy. he started to mumble and lost his train of thought. he was asked about corporate

tax. covid, dealing with all we have to deal with the covid. look, we finally beat medicare. then, when he was asked about immigration, donald trump had to respond to what he said and donald trump said i don't know even know what he said at the end of that sentence. i don't think he knows either. what were your thoughts when you were watching it? what stood out to you last night? >> to be honest -- it was sad. it was sad to watch. this is dangerous to put this on display for the country. look, we are all concerned about this because our adversaries see this as well. russia, iran, north korea, forming a new axis of evil, making threats to us and our allies. we can't afford to have this on the world stage. the only solace we have is that help is on the way. november can't get here soon enough. january can't get here soon i coenough. >> i know if our instincts to follow the election. based on the performance last night shouldn't we be talking about the 25th amendment? have you heard from cabinet members? are you all hauling them down

there. you have a president who was unfit last night. i know people have been saying it for a while. we all saw it. have you heard from the cabinet members? >> listen, i'm sure there is a lot of talk about that. democrats full five alarm fire. they are deeply concerned because all -- as they mentioned, all down ballot, all the candidates down ballot are now concerned about their own futures. this will have a big effect in the election. it's going to effect turnout for the democrats. and it's going to effect this new demographic shift that we are seeing into the republican camp. we have record numbers of hispanic voters coming into the republican party. and black voters. african-american voters. the jewish community is more animated for our side than we have ever seen. >> lawrence: of course. >> they feel like joe biden has abandoned israel in their community. all those things are true. i think we are headed for historic election in november. and we are in very good shape. look, if we can survive between now and then.

there? >> brian: president biden and donald trump squaring off over russia, ukraine, gaza and everything else. his foreign policy was one topic last night. fox news senior strategic analyst general jack keane was taking it all. in is he here to react. general, you -- were you pleased that this was a topic last night and what are your thoughts about the depth of the conch and the policy that you were able to discertain. >> the fact that ukraine and gaza wars were in the debate last night were certainly good to see. we missed the trees in the forest so to speak. the u.s. intelligence agency just a few weeks ago said the greatest threat the united states has seen in many decades is china, russia, iran and north korea all working together to take advantage of the united states. so much so that the implications are that we could find ourselves in a conflict in more than one theater. that is a stunning statement in

terms of the danger that lies ahead for us. so the wars in gaza and ukraine are a reflection of that aggressiveness that we see in iran and destabilizing the middle east and russia wanting to expand into ukraine and into europe itself. but this is a seminal issue. and it's unfortunate that these moderators didn't bring that up to have a rich discussion about such significant threat that i don't believe we have seen really since world war ii. and to keep it submerged and not put it in full life given the size and scale of the viewing all yens is unfortunate. the other thing is the administration has paid the point that china is our pacing item in dealing with a threat. but there wasn't much discussion about it last night. and the fact is just dealing

with the facts of the cases china is outpacing us militarily. and they have more ships, more airplanes, more offensive, defensive missiles. and the list goes on and on and on. and we are challenged to catch up with it. and it's unfortunate it wasn't discussed and what are we going to do about that? the last four years are flat defense budgets, brian: catching us up to the reality of what we have. the united states remains the world's number one super power military advantage. but when you deal with just the indo-pacific region itself. the advantage swings to china because of the capacities that i just met. and we got to catch up to that and these defense budgets that we have are not going to help us get there. absolutely, and what we're seeing, too is the coordination amongst our enemies maybe for the first time. if you look at japan and

russia -- committee, if you look at japan and germany and italy, they were not coordinating. they were our enemies. these enemies are coordinating. iran, russia, the china. and north korea are all coordinating on us. with the money. they are buy iranian oil. and iran is flush with money. so, in a sense, china is financing iran's destabilization of the middle east and trying to crush israel as a state. china is also buying russian oil at discounted prices and providing comprehensive assistance to russia to keep that army on the battlefield and keep it properly supplied. far more than anybody expected them to be doing. they are financing both of these wars. this cooperation that's going on is quite serious. and its implications for us in terms of danger are profound.
