giving them new teeth is something that's so amazing and we have thousands, tens of thousands of dentists out there. no veteran should not have dental care. >> 85% of our veterans do not receive dental care that are registered with the v.a. 85%. that's thousands of veterans. and we started with one dental office in florida and now we have 150 dental partners in the state of florida and last year governor desantis signed a dental bill. first of its kind in the nation and it's just amazing what we're doing to transform lives. >> lawrence: we appreciate what you do. i hope others giving to this cause. thank you for your service. good luck today. don't forget. >> god bless america. >> lawrence: watch the independence special today at 8:00 p.m. >> fighting for his political life as the country marks
6:01 am
independence day. how president biden is working to reassure allies and supporters that he is fit for the job. welcome to fox news live on this independence day i'm mike emanuel. hello, julie. >> julie: look at you. happy fourth, mike. an awesome three hours. glad to spend it with you and you at home. thank you so much for joining us on this fourth of july. the president met with democratic governors yesterday where he worked to ease their concerns about his debate performance. he also sent a direct message to supporters. >> president biden: folks, let me be clear. i'm running on the democratic nominees. no one is pushing me out. i'm not leaving. i'm in this race until the end and we're going to win this election. >> julie: we have more from the white house. >> good morning. they didn't say it out of the gate. during a news conference democratic governors with whom president biden met privately maintain their backing them as
6:02 am
they voice concerns behind closed doors. >> we were honest about the concerns that we were hearing from people and we're also honest about the fact that as the president continued to tell us and show us that he was all in, that we said we would stand with him. >> in that same meeting "politico" reports the president told the governors that he underwent a medical checkup in recent days and is fine. senior white house spokesperson tells fox the president was seen to check on his cold and was recovering well. the president's gathering with governors on wednesday is part of a blitz to keep his supporters in the fold and spokes with democratic leadership in congress and campaign staff on wednesday. yet his attempts to reassure democrats don't appear to be enough for capitol hill. hakeem jeffries is trying to stem a tied of democratic defections. some mentioned they're worried about the president's electability and said he should step aside.
6:03 am
two house lawmakers have called for the president to drop out. today the president is set to host a fourth of july celebration at the white house. some members of the president's families are expected to be there including reportedly valerie biden owens, the president's sister. owens will have face-to-face meetings regarding the president's campaign. she is and has been a sounding board for the president helping to lead his presidential and senate campaigns. the president is also expected to speak with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu later on today. julie. >> julie: madeleine, thank you very much. mike. >> mike: for more on this let's bring in the nationally syndicated political reporter. >> good morning. >> mike: let's start with the latest national polls from "the new york times" and "wall street journal." trump 49/41 in the "new york times" poll. trump 48%, biden 42% in the
6:04 am
"wall street journal" poll. how difficult for president biden to change that momentum? >> it's definitely going to be a challenge. this race leading up to the debate was always about donald trump. and that has shifted. this is now becoming a race about joe biden. and the health concerns surrounding him. but also the support surrounding him as it is eroding. i think going into the debate, there was -- he was already behind trump, and trump has just sort of leapt ahead and, you know, in american politics nothing is impossible. anything can happen. i think we've certainly learned that in the past eight years. however, this is going to be a real acrobatic leap to be able to catch up and pass trump if things remain as divisive within
6:05 am
the democratic party right now. >> mike: same polls on biden being too old to run or be effective. "new york times" among registered voters 74%, "wall street journal" 80%. it would seem one way to fight that would be to do an hour and a half news conference with the white house press corps and yet they aren't doing that, selena. >> it is really amazing to see the decisions that they have made since last thursday, right? you would think that there would have been an immediate, you know, interview, a press conference out there. i know he was out there in north carolina, but people -- here is the problem for biden. you might get mad at a politician or an elected official for this or that and say i hate them. but you can come back from being mad at them. what the challenge is right now is trust. when you lose trust, it is very
6:06 am
difficult to come back from that. and not building that trust since then has hurt them. they have made a series of very, very difficult -- i would say bad moves, right? they have just not communicated. people have lost trust in them and they have done nothing to rebuild that bond. >> mike: to your point congressman seth monthlyton is not impressed saying when your current strategy isn't working it's rarely the right decision to double down. president biden won't get younger. i'm taking time to seriously consider the best strategy for democrats to win this election and set our country on a positive path forward. how troubling is that for the white house and the biden campaign when you consider a massachusetts congressman is in a safe seat? >> right, absolutely. and that tells you everything.
6:07 am
you expect to hear that from someone who is in western pennsylvania, right, in a swing district. you don't expect to hear it from a safe state in a safe district. that underscores the challenge. and i think there are even bigger challenges. you have seen in unison the democrats have said well, you know, we might have a problem right here, but the other guy lies and is a threat to democracy. and as one voter told me, erie county, pennsylvania, is not just the most important county in the state but the country and he is undecided and he says i'm not buying that because to me the biggest lie is what we've seen happen in the past few days. they've been lying to us all along and the bigger threat to democracy is an incompetent president or a man or woman who is not up to the job. they've got challenges all over
6:08 am
the place. >> mike: part of damage control is meeting with democratic governors last night. worth noting that gavin newsom, pritzker, shapiro and beshear, potential candidates, did not speak on camera afterwards. final thought on that. >> i know that shapiro, the governor of pennsylvania, luckily for him is in the middle of a budget fight. probably the only time he ever thinks a budget fight is great, right? he wasn't there. but you as a governor, you can just say oh, my schedule is full if you don't want to be out there. >> mike: thanks so much. have an awesome day. >> happy fourth of july. >> j >> julie: new york city gearing up for fireworks. they're prepared to respond to some planned demonstrations. bryan llenas is live in times
6:09 am
square with the details. >> happy fourth. as you know, new york city is home to the nation's largest fireworks show. millions will watch tonight on tv and there will be a couple million lucky enough to see it all in person flooding rooftops and streets to watch 60,000 shells get blasted into the air tonight at 9:25 p.m. for the first time since 2013 the fireworks show will be launched off five barges on the hudson river, the west side of the city giving our friends in nearby new jersey a chance to catch the spectacular show. organizers have spent a year preparing for this 25-minute show. over 60 pyro technicians have connected five miles of wires on barges synchronizing them all through ten computers to coordinate the entire show. >> the show will be on the hudson river so we needed to source larger fireworks, wider
6:10 am
bursts of fireworks to fill in the bigger space. this year the fireworks are more three dimensional than they've ever been before. some will burst one shell eight times. some fireworks will actually last 12 seconds all from that one shell. >> as for security, f.b.i. director christopher wray says the terrorism threat nationwide this year is, quote, on a whole other level. given this is nypd will deploy more officers than ever before for a july 4th show. no credible specific threat of violence or terrorism but the nypd is deploying canine, counter terrorism. plain clothes police teams and prepared to shoot down drones. >> any major event where there is a potential for a drone to be used for nefarious purposes we have technological capability to mitigate it. we do this in coordination with federal partners who have
6:11 am
authorization to mitigate drone. >> reportedly intelligence bulletins from the f.b.i. and d.h.s., homeland security, say july 4th shows in new york, las vegas and san francisco, quote, remain attractive targets specifically to lone wolves and small groups. at the end of the day be vigilant, be safe and have an amazing time tonight. >> julie: nobody keeps this city safer than the nypd. bryan, i'm excited to watch fireworks later with you. i look forward to that. thank you, bryan. i love to divulge our personal lives on live tv. >> mike: dangerous hurricane beryl is taking came at the state of texas. the storm is charging through the caribbean with powerful winds and heavy rain after making a direct hit on jamaica yesterday. beryl could weaken slightly as

>> mike: the defense in the bribery trial of bob menendez is resting its case without calling on the new jersey senator to testify after the court session ended yesterday. menendez said he saw no point in taking the stand. >> for me to testify and give them another chance to have a second summation go through the whole case again and then go ahead and have their summation and then have a rebuttal case at the end is simply not something that makes any sense to me whatsoever. >> mike: his decision clears the
6:17 am
way for closing arguments to begin on monday. menendez is accused of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, gold bars, luxury car in exchange for political favors to three new jersey businessmen. his wife, nadine, is also charged and facing a separate trial. >> julie: karen read making headlines outside the courtroom. allen jackson was her defense attorney during her trial for the murder of her police officer boyfriend in 2022. now there is a photo obtained exclusively by the "new york post" which shows read and jackson cuddling up outside a high-end boston steakhouse last week as the jury deliberated her fate. the judge declared a mistrial on the case on monday. let's bring in ted williams, former d.c. homicide detective and fox news contributor. not a good look, would you agree? >> julie, happy fourth of july to you. i've got to tell you, perception
6:18 am
is everything and if that photo is authentic of the lawyer cuddling with his client, i can tell you that is certainly something that is not a good look especially when a jury is out. i can tell you as a lawyer it is clearly something i would not do. attorney/client relationships are very, very significant and important during a murder trial of this nature. >> julie: paul o'keefe, the brother of john o'keefe on media attention has gotten this is what he says. it turned into the karen read show. she walks through a crowd that cheers her on. she goes out in public and takes pictures and even signs autographs. she is just living her life like nothing ever happened and meanwhile my brother has been gone for almost 2 1/2 years, he said. i just want people to go back to who the victim is in this, it's
6:19 am
not her, it is my brother. i mean, for a cop killer case, this is actually quite startling when you have cop killer cases typically, the outcry and hatred toward the cop killer is pretty big. she is almost treated like a local celebrity, which is down right sickening. >> you are absolutely right. the sad commentary about this case is that we have john o'keefe, who is dead. now, the prosecution believes that they have proved their case beyond a reasonable doubt but however i must say a jury found that they had not by the evidence that was presented. so as a result of that, karen read has been allowed to get off of this fate. i have a feeling the d.a. in this case is definitely going to bring these charges again. the big question is, she was
6:20 am
charged with second degree murder, which is intentional killing of a person and the question is, are they going to reduce the charges to try to get a jury verdict in this case? >> julie: what would you think of that and the likelihood of that happening? how is it that this ended in this way? how is it that she got away so far with this alleged crime? >> i can tell you, julie, the lead investigator in this case acted very unprofessional. they were able to put on text messages, meaning the defense, of the lead investigator saying unprofessional things about karen read. remember, karen read's defense in this case is that she was set up by law enforcement. that law enforcement was involved in the killing of john o'keefe. so they were able to sew reasonable doubt in the minds of that jury that led to a hung
6:21 am
jury and a mistrial. >> julie: the lead investigator was relieved of duty. it says a lot about how they botched this case in the first place. does that help perhaps bring new charges with the lead inves investigate or off the case to present more evidence? >> i would try to see if i could get karen read to plea to something. i think with what came out in the initial trial here concerning the lead investigator, that is certainly terribly hurt this case and probably the retrial of this case. >> julie: yeah. it certainly has. just startling to know this is actually the outcome so far. ted williams. thank you very much for joining us today and happy fourth to you. >> my pleasure, back at you, julie. >> mike: president biden and israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu will speak on the phone today. what it could mean for the

6:30 am
money and attract followers. and they are absolutely plotting against us. i fear that even if we did put a plan together today, we would still be facing the threats that are already in train. they have us in their crosshairs. >> mike: president biden was asked in 2021 by george stephanopolous about keeping troops there. >> they warned against withdrawing on this timeline and wanted you to keep 2500 troops. >> president biden: no they didn't. that isn't true. >> mike: the united states has troops in former war zones but not afghanistan. >> we also have them in iraq and in syria and they are there to fight the remnants of isis. look, the taliban is aligned with al qaeda. so if we were even to consider putting troops back in taliban-held afghanistan that would be extraordinarily risky for us. yes, we could have left 2500
6:31 am
troops there and kept bagram air base and had a capability to find those terrorist targets and finish them before they cause harm to our homeland. we did not do that. the options for us are very bad. if we were to help the taliban against isis, that is an insurgency the taliban is facing against isis. we would be solid filing the taliban rule in afghanistan. that would lead to debate. >> mike: president biden made it sound like no american soldiers were killed on his watch. 13 died in the botched withdrawal from afghanistan and former white house press secretary jen psaki is expected to testify on capitol hill. do you think they want to get at what was being said internally versus what the biden administration was saying publicly? >> i'm sure they want to do
6:32 am
that. it was an isis terrorist attack, a suicide attack that killed 170 afghans and 13 of our service members. it was a tactical failure on our part but reflects the larger strategic failure that we didn't have a plan for our post withdrawal from afghanistan to keep our country safe from this growing terrorist threat. >> mike: dan hoffman, grateful for your time and analysis today. have a wonderful independence day. >> thanks. >> mike: more reaction with republican congressman darrell issa in our next hour. >> julie: washington nationals are gearing up for a patriotic fourth of july. the families of 250 service members stationed in qatar will be in the stands for today's game against the new york mets. those service members in qatar will also be getting a special tribute. lucas tomlinson is live at national park in washington.

6:41 am
it would nothing to dispel the perception our current president is unfit not for the office of a presidency but as a wal-mart greeter or golf starter at this point. unless the interview is live, the american public needs to witness in realtime what joe biden's cognitive abilities are at this point. there is no other path for him unless he shows voters that he deserves to be in the highest office in the land for the next four and a half years. think about that for a moment. what we saw last thursday night and before that quite frankly for years, this is joe biden in his 80s. could you imagine him at age 86 still as commander-in-chief? by the way, many people in this business keep overlooking this rather crucial aspect. can he defend his record as it pertains to the economy, inflation, crime, illegal immigration, border security, foreign policy? can he defend his stance on cultural issues such as his party's support that biological men should be able to compete against biological women in sports or kids as young as first
6:42 am
grade should be taught about gender identification and sexual orientation in schools. george stephanopolous needs to broach all these issues and my prediction is it probably isn't going to happen for the most part. president biden without a teleprompter and without scripted remarks, will he be the meandering mess he saw last week or will he be somebody that americans can trust to do the job moving forward through 2028, 2029? >> julie: cognitive decline as i've spoken about this week does not happen overnight. it happens over a period of time. this has been going downhill since the president took office. the reason why at the very beginning we used to say trump used to hold these news conferences regularly and biden doesn't do that. there is a major cover-up in this white house and all those surrounding joe biden to cover up his cognitive decline. that's why america was so shocked when they watched the disastrous debate performance.
6:43 am
but that's the real joe biden that america has not seen yet. unfortunately during a taped interview with george stephanopolous, we still are not going to see the real joe biden. >> and we hear from the white house, julie, that oh, no, actually he had a cold. you know, a cold, apparently now at least as it pertains to joe biden affects your ability to articulate basic thoughts, affects your memory, affects your volume of speech. it is utterly ridiculous that was an argument and excuse made and then we heard from karine jean-pierre yesterday that no, actually he had jet lag from a trip he took ten days before the debate. the gas lighting that is going on and the fact the media ate it all up before this debate calling videos of joe biden falling upstairs, falling on stage at graduation ceremonies, falling off his bike and talking about his uncle being eaten by cannibals, 9% inflation when he

took office. they said they were cheap fakes. the media is as culpable as those close to the president who perpetuated the lie that everything is okay. it is not at this point and that's why we're having this conversation today. >> julie: there is an interview that happened last year between nikki haley and george stephanopolous and it did not rub him well. he was not happy about it. basically when she was like no, biden won't finish out his term. now she is coming back and saying george stephanopolous, you have something to say about that? let's watch this. >> first of all, a vote for joe biden is a vote for kamala harris. you know that and i know that. no way that joe biden will finish his term. i think kamala harris will be the next president and that should send a chill up every american's spine. the fact that we have a primary. >> excuse me one second. what is that based on that he won't finish his term?
6:45 am
