epstein. former democratic counsel for the democratic economy. thanks for joining us toted there are some of us who believe you have to release that hur tape. it's one thing to have a transcript particularly to hear the audio. what's your take on everything that's going on and particularly the release of the hur audiotapes? >> thanks for having me. if the justice department want to stop the hur tape they have to make an assertion what the legitimate interest is and i don't think they have done that to your earlier point about the news media here, democrats are making the argument that they're the protectors of democracy. they have been engaged, in my opinion, in a massive cover-up joe biden's mental capacity. they have been ablegd by a news media become very liberal activists and have decided to

put their thumbs on the scale of the candidate they like. and what that translates to at the end of the day, jason, is a gross, a gross disservice to their readers and news media and democrats to gross disservice to their voters. now the democrats are in this completely horrible position of having to defend the indefensible. this candidacy is on life support in my opinion. but this is a -- this is a disaster of the democrats' making that have been enabled by a partisan media that has forgotten its role as the independent check on power. >> jason: julian, this is what i appreciate about what you are doing the principle. it's wrong they have a role to play and they don't equally apply it. watch this quick clip here on how hard they have been pressing biden with their questions. >> mr. president, what did you

order? >> chocolate alcoholic loot chip. >> what is your message to republicans who are prepared to block the january 6th commission? >> eat some chocolate, chocolate chip. >> ice cream. >> jason: we heard a lot more questions about his flavor of ice cream than we did in any other serious thing. not like sam donaldsson or brit hume did back in the day pressing reagan on serious questions. >> think as i said the lies the party have made about the president, the democratic party has been a crime against its voters. the fact that the news media is not asked a tough question is incredible disservice to the people that view them and read their copy. easy way of updating this conversation as well. in the fuss media were doing its job right now. they would ask one question. and they would insist on this one question. and this question is this: will the president agree to go before the country in a "primetime" news conference. and if he can handle that, then maybe he gets through.

this but, if he can't handle that, then he is certainly cannot handle the role of the commander-in-chief. i mean, if you think about the white house putting out this information that he is only available from 10:00 p.m. -- 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., i mean, i can't understand the stupidity of that. i mean that is an invitation to hamas, or any other adversary to attack after 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon, 11:00 p.m., i mean, the poor way in which this was handled. you sort of can't count the mistakes that has been made. again as i say i think this is all performative now. i think biden will opt out of this. i don't think there is any way he survives this. >> jason: last time joe biden did a solo press conference november of 2023. and there's a reason for that you bring up a very good point. julian, thanks so much for joining us. all right, coming up. kamala harris something floated as a biden replacement. but, is she part of the cover-up? that's coming up next. ♪ >> we did it. we did it, joe.

some democrats are already looking ahead to a world where kamala harris is atop the ticket, more questions about her future future and also who could serve as her v.p. if there is in fact a change on the ticket. many top democratic circles talk has already moved to who kamala harris would choose as a running mate. >> the kamala push is in full swing. a new report says her donors are now privately strategizing in case biden does drop out. this as questions emerge about what she knew about biden's infirmity. >> if there ever is a problem, do you think you could go tell the american public? do you think in your role that you're in a position to do that? >> of course. if necessary, but there's no need for that.

>> the way that the president's demeanor in that report was characterized could not be more wrong on the facts, and clearly politically motivated. gratuitous. >> jason: wow. joining me now is horace cooper senior fellow with the national center for public policy and project 21 chairman. all right. is she in on it? is she in part of the cover-up? what's your take on it? >> if she's part of the cover-up and she knows the truth, she's been lying to the american people. if she's not in on the cover-up and she actually can claim to be vice president and work with this guy and never saw any of this, it moons she's completely out of the loop and certainly isn't ready to stand in for him. >> jason: yeah. i mean you make -- you make a very good point here is was she in the room? was she having the daily interactions or not? and that's the seminal question for her.

she can't have it both ways. >> absolutely. it's a shame that we have this declining mental capacity and the vice president comes out and makes statements that build a misimpression with the american people, while it's either obviously a lie that she knew, which makes her inappropriate to take the position, having lied to the american people, or if she's so out of the loop she's not involved, she's not engaged, how can she be ready to stand in on a moment's notice to make critical decisions? this, you can't have it both ways. >> jason: and this is the funny thing. democrats' policy is upside down. she had two major tasks, the border and a.i. and she did nothing with those. >> yeah. she's not willing to put the effort in. she's not willing to study. she's not willing to try to take a leadership role, and she thinks that things ought to be handed to her and you know why?
