continue to support ukraine as they fight back against russia this is not in a place we can negotiate a settlement yet at this point. ukraine needs to take a bit more territory and nato has to pledge to really defend ukraine long-term. the agreements will go through 2030 and that is what we will see coming up this week from jen stoltenberg and the other leaders. >> part of what is keeping ukraine out of nato as they are still at war, right? they do not like that prospect we do know hungary is opposed to prime minister viktor in newsweek op ed recently wrote quote nato is approaching a watershed moment it is worth remembering the most successful military alliance in world history started as a piece of project's future success depends on its ability to maintain peace. but today instead of peace the agenda is the pursuit of war. instead of defense its offense all of this runs counter to

millions and millions more trying to care for them the idea is going to go up we are lucky and probably 13 million by 2050 we've got to do something. we need tools this is a tool. because it actually targets the beta plaque protein in the brain that dunks up the ability for nerves to communicate is called a plaque protein. and by targeting it, this drug moves a step forward and gets td of the plaque and a large number of cases they monitor you in six months or more it is gone you could actually stop it. the downside is a few things but first of all is only one part of the problem. new studies looking towards humans that's more effective than this drug. then there is the issue of inflammation in the brain

another big piece we are looking at treatment but were going to end up going for with three or more tools to fight alzheimer's this being an important tool. note this over 18 months 30% decrease in progression of the disease with people on this. the biggest downside is at risk of brain swelling we see in one at a quarter they have not gotten that fixed yet. that is a big problem. if you are a patient or family member thinking about this you look at the upside and you look at the downside ends up being a personal decision. mike: alzheimer's families looking for hope sounds like there are some hopeful signs on the horizon but let's dig into the numbers of americans living with alzheimer's currently an estimated 6.7 million as of last year. the projection is 14 million people by the year 2060 it is a top 10 leading cause of death in the country already. likely to climb what is your experience in dealing with it?

>> it destroys families to because caretakers and it is so expensive to try to take care of people. people are often in the now they do not want to admit and people do not have the tools to take care of someone with alzheimer's. you have to hire aides and people may not be able to afford it and note this the price tag on this drug is 30,000 dollars a year. medicare is covering that but not the coinsurance part which is 20% for they have to figure that out to we could not have something that is prohibitive for for poor communities for us disadvantage community is a huge huge issue we have to get the treatment on board for this disease because it is a family disease is not just for the patient. >> a great point there is the fda banning an additive called brahman eight vegetable oils used in sodas due to health concerns quote the data from the study suggests oral exposure is associate with increased tissue

levels of bromide and high levels of exposure to thyroid is a target organ of potential negative health effects in rodents is this a smart move, doctor? >> i think it is they have limited to 15 parts per million up until now the, the fda but what is concerning the fda it stays in tissue and increases and does not go down over time. granted it's only animal studies as you just showed, but the problem of the thyroid gland is very sensitive. for example if you have too much iodine in your diet you can lead to low thyroid. you will not even know what you'll suddenly same gaining weight, my hair is thinning i'm getting depressed, what is going on? i will pick it up if you are my patient but the same thing it works the same way can and tribute with thyroid function. i think this is a really good idea as a flavoring stabilizer mostly in citrus sodas the main company that uses this and a soda called sun drop is getting
