angeles and this is america's late news, "fox news @ night". you think biden should step down? you've talked to him more than anybody else lately. >> trace: breaking tonight, tmc capturing george stephanopoulos who interviewed the president just days ago admitting he thinks biden cannot serve another term. meantime another day of democratic cleanup after biden's bad debate night at all eyes now looking toward the president's "big boy press conference" this week. >> it was a bad night, we understand that. i would call it we had a bad night. right? >> he had a bad night. >> a bad night. >> a bad night. he will have a press conference lot -- next week at nato. a big boy press conference. when he gives his press conference,'s big boy press conference. >> a press conference, i guess a big boy press conference. >> trace: and former president

trump getting his essay on the democrats chaos at a massive rally in florida tonight with senator and potential vp marco rubio. >> whatever else can be said about crooked joe biden, you have to give him credit for one brilliant decision, probably the smartest decision he's ever made , he picked kamala harris as his vice president. because it was an insurance policy. maybe the best insurance policy i've ever seen. >> trace: ashley strohmier is live in new york with more on trump's first rally since the day after the debate. >> reporter: hello trace. former president trump hit the campaign trail in his home state of florida discussing a number of topics including resident biden's perceived cognitive decline, even challenging him to another debate. >> sleepy joe biden can prove to everyone all over the world that he has what it takes to be president. but this time it will be man to man, no moderators, no holds

about trump's vise presidential pick. some top contenders including marco rubio, jd vance and north dakota governor. senior advisor for the trump campaign jason miller said on monday that the former president is close to making his decision which could come as soon as this week. >> trace: ashley strohmier live in new york, thank you. let's bring in strategies aaron per renee and princeton university political scientist lauren right. welcome to you both. the former president at his rally tonight says it does not matter who the democrats nominate. watch. >> despite all the democrat panic, the truth is does not matter who they nominate because we are going to beat anyone of them in thundering landslides. joe, kamala, the entire democrat establishment have been caught red handed in the thick of the biggest scandal and the biggest cover-up. it's a cover-up, that's what it is. >> trace: it really does feel
8:05 pm
like there was some kind of cover-up going on, erin perrine. >> i really appreciate that donald trump stood there and made such a strong contrast between the democrats. all of them in totality. joe biden included and the republicans. it's not just joe biden. we said this in the 2020 cycle, he was a vessel for the radical left policies that they were going to pursue, same with kamala harris, she's just as culpable. it does not matter who the democrats would put up and at this point it will be joe biden and if he decides to step aside it could be somebody else. but these policies have failed the american people. contrast that with trump's policies and the efforts to cover-up not only joe biden's decline but the failure of his policies. that is a contrast point. the american people are responding to it in tropes of support for donald trump at this point. >> trace: it's interesting because everybody is looking at what happened over the past ten days, lauren wright, and looking closely at the polls.
8:06 pm
we have the aarp poll, battleground wisconsin, these numbers on the screen, i have trump at 44, biden 38. that's a bunch of independent voters there, changing percentages that are kind of shifting towards the former president. what do you think? >> i think that's true. that's why trump is ahead on all the national averages including all the swing states, and those are the most important polls. it's because voters are unhappy with the policies and angry about what they've seen. the biden campaign's message is trump is a liar and he's dangerous to democracy. well now they don't have much of a leg to stand on themselves. i will say i think harris is the only option for their replacement but she has a huge problem and that is that the administration has sold the biden harris administration, every single day we see that label. it's a partnership.
8:07 pm
so either she's complacent in hiding biden's condition from the american public or she wasn't as involved as the american people thought she was. and so what is the message there? i don't know but they need to replace her. >> trace: reuters ip so's, biden should drop out. here's the results, 56% say yes, he should drop look at the independence. sixty%. i have one more poll so quick answers from both on this. >> it's very clear that the american people and democrats who are trying to be quiet but are very loud do not want to joe biden at the top of the ticket. this isn't about age, it's about mental acuity. polling shows time and again that the american people and especially democrats do not trust joe biden's mental acuity. for democrats it's a big pickle because they don't trust his mental acuity but would rather vote for joe biden who they believe is not fit for office over donald trump because they have such hatred for him versus putting the country on the right track. >> trace: talking about mental
8:08 pm
acuity, let's put this poll up. biden mentally sharp and able to deal with challenges, 23%, trump 49%. final thoughts? >> it's pretty dismal but i will add i don't think trump can take anything for granted at this point. he's in a golden position that none of us probably thought he would be heading into 2024, but he needs to win back those moderate republicans that put him in the white house the first time around and needs to concentrate on them with his vp pick and his policy message. >> trace: which could be coming any day. lauren wright, erin perrine, thank you. meanwhile the white house press briefing had a challenge today defending biden over concerns about his mental capacity and calls from fellow democrats to drop his reelection bid. bill melugin is live with new information. >> reporter: good evening. the white house is trying to clean up concerns about president biden's cognitive decline. during today's white house press

briefing our colleague peter do see pressed karine jean-pierre on why he hasn't recently been tested. >> are you guys just not since february testing president biden for parkinson's or dementia back because if he gets a bad result, it's all over? >> again, as i've said many times before, the president has had a full some, comprehensive, what we shared with you was comprehensive but he's had a full...physical. we've shown the results of those physicals this past three years. just to clear this up got the white house medical unit, his doctor, they don't believe that he needs anything more than what we have been able to provide. >> reporter: and karine jean-pierre also clarified why a neurological specialist with an
8:10 pm
expertise in parkinson's had come to the white house multiple times. she says it was just to give biden his annual physicals. >> when i said only three, i said only three visits, that this particular doctor had, i said a neurologist. what i was not able to confirm is the name and to the reason why is because we do not share a private information. >> reporter: karine jean-pierre went on to say biden is more determined than ever to run for president and also added that top democrats and to the congressional black caucus have all come out in support of him as calls for him to step aside continue. we will see where it goes next. >> trace: we will indeed, thank you. [♪♪] the "fox news @ night" commonsense department was intrigued by the white house press briefing today where fox's own peter doocy asked a simple question, why doesn't the president get checked out and say the coast is clear?
8:11 pm
karine jean-pierre's abrasive answer left commonsense with an on feeling that the coast is cloudy. maybe evening heavy fog. claiming the president doesn't need a cognitive test because he has a full medical unit with them at all times and gets an annual physical. she says every day americans are lucky if they can get a physical because "they have to get into a car, they have to take public transportation." if commonsense has this right, us americans need a ride to the dr, joe biden's medical team is in the next room, begging the question why doesn't joe biden walk into the next room and get a cognitive test? you know, before 8:00 pm. the press secretary says the president's medical team does not think he needs a cognitive test. did the medical team see the debate? do they talk to the president? truth is the medical team does not decide if a cognitive test is needed by joe biden, joe biden makes that decision. both joe biden and commonsense realize that not taking a test means the race continues.
8:12 pm
taking a test means the race is likely over. at least for the man who took the test. with that let's bring in the gop nominee for congress in california is district, intensive care physician along with townhall.com managing editor spencer brown. thank you for coming on. a board-certified neurologist, dr, said this on nbc about joe biden. watch. >> this is not a palatable issue or speech discrepancy which is different from word retrieval, plus the rigidity. lots of arm swings, you notice when he turns it's kind of and block turning, not a quick turn. so that's one of the hallmarks. i could have diagnosed him from across the mall. >> trace: a lot of dog new -- diagnoses going on. why doesn't joe biden just get a cognitive test?
8:13 pm
>> it's exactly what you said, he has everything to lose and really nothing to game. but without saying that i can diagnose him from across the mall, i think to myself, what is the second or third step? people say he has parkinson's, fine, the trouble is that side effects of medications include hallucinations, solutions, and so do you want somebody who was holding the nuclear codes to be suffering from those medication side effects? >> trace: the answer is no, i do not. a lot of people are in sync on that. over the couple of years biden's speaking errors have increased. we have this graphic for you and you can kind of look at it, this is from june of last year through may of 2024. it keeps going on. i've put this up on the screen because it really tells you that there is something happening and it also tells you it's happening to a man that doesn't really speak publicly very much. >> exactly right. this is a president that is far less accessible than his
8:14 pm
predecessor, he doesn't to press conferences normally. he has the white house playing up his big boy press conference which should be beneath the office of the president but these aren't necessarily just he said the wrong number or used to the wrong name. he's the president of the united states, supposedly the leader of the free world and what he says has an impact. when you have somebody who not he does not only recently but throw the last few years has misstated policy, exit only called for a regime change in russia, he's continuing to do things that projects more weakness and our enemies are watching. including the debate last week, our enemies are watching and see that if they are going to do something, now would be the time. he goes to bed early, sleeps then, doesn't have his wits about him and it's a problem. >> trace: thank you, spencer. it seems to be some kind of a divide in the democratic party that there wasn't a couple of days ago. they are kind about loggerheads now and i'm wondering what you think when you watch him. does he make it through the next four and a half months?
8:15 pm
does he make it through the next six, seven months before he would have to leave office? >> in the icu where i work we have something called sundown inc. where older frail patients in the night when they get sleep disturbances become confused and nonsensical. disturbed to sleep is part and parcel of being president. of north korea is going to fire missiles at the middle of the night, you won't like grandpa vote -- let grandpa joe sleep until the morning, you will wake him up but unfortunately he will be sharp as a marble at that point. >> trace: after seeing what many people are calling the cover up for lack of a better term, it's typical, when you listen to these white house news conferences and press briefings, it's difficult to trust the information coming out. >> completely and that's ultimately the biggest problem the administration has had from the start. in the skates it's more serious because it's the physical health of the man who has the nuclear codes but this is something the administration has done from the start. i remember being on your show when the classified documents

scandal happened and karine jean-pierre wasn't being forthcoming and had to be corrected all the time. it goes to everything, whether it's the economy, the border, every single crisis the administration has brought they've denied until they can't anymore and it seems like they've hit that point with biden's fitness and i don't know if there's a path forward for them. >> trace: going down the list, crime, the border, the laptop, everything that this administration has been challenged on, they have denied and they have lied and so it really is tough to trust them when they talk about him being cognitively all there. to you both, thank you. he'd been home for almost two weeks. he was jetlagged? how big is that [ bleep ] jet? the point is, for a campaign based on honesty and decency, this been about the debate appears to be blatant be -- [ bleep ]. get on board or shut the [ bleep ] up is not a compelling pro-democracy bumper sticker.

medical questions where there were limitations on what she could say. >> so he's angry that the white house press corps is now asking questions that they have ignored for the past three and a half years. >> how dare they get upset, finally by the way, that they are not actually being, you know, told the truth, given the information the american people deserve. you have karine jean-pierre who's just a shameless lawyer, who's been lying over and over again. and for the most part, the exception of a few, everyone there seemed to be okay with it. seams to be okay they were told about the cheap fakes that we knew were not fake. when we were told lie after lie after lie they said nothing and all of a sudden they are acting as if they are offended. the reason they are acting this way is because the american people clearly and obviously know the truth about joe biden and they can't get away with lying about it anymore, unless you are on msnbc. >> trace: you talk about getting caught red-handed, this

thinking that the world is a safer place, a better place, a stronger place when he's at the helm? it will be a really big deal, all eyes on biden. >> trace: peter doocy was asking this question of the white house briefing today, watch this. >> he also said he's sharpest before 8:00 pm. so say the pentagon at some point picks up an incoming nuke, it's 11:00 pm, who do you call, the first lady? >> he has a team that lets him know of any news that is pertinent and important to the american people. he has someone that is decided with his national security council, who gets to tell him that news. >> trace: it's the old 3:00 am call. right now it's 11:00 pm and soon it will be -- it's one of those things, another thing that is distressing for a lot of people who are concerned about national security. >> look, the office of the

president projects strength and confidence throughout the world, not only for american interests would also to defend freedom and democracy around the world. so we need to have an american president who projects that strength. aside from all the rhetoric, we needed american president who is capable and who we believe the greatest stressors of conflict and international instability can be counted upon to have a resolute and strong mind. unfortunately that is not what we are seeing out of the white house so the fact that peter asked that question is again because many americans are simply concerned the democratic party, their consultants across the country have admitted the same. >> trace: they have. cameron hamilton, lisa daftari, thank you. he's going to come to the conclusion that this is just not a good idea. i don't predict things, i'm just telling you it's inevitable. they will prey on it and make the right decision. i don't have any doubt about it. >> trace: democrats and the media divided over whether joe biden will stay in the race. last week most of you told us that biden would be pushed out.

back with the nightcap crew, ashley strohmier, bill melugin, rabbi chaim mentz, dee sarton, jason ratz. democrats in disarray. the media divided, even liberal elites divided. last week most of you thought biden would be forced to step aside but a lot is happened since. do you still feel like it's only a matter of time before he leaves or do you think he might survive the battle? jason. >> i never thought he would leave. he's 100% going to survive the battle because time is on his side. here's a number that is actually really important. twelve, the amount of electoral college votes he would lose, democrats would lose, if this went to an open convention because in washington state you have to be certified by the 20th of august. >> trace: ashley. >> i'm with jason. i don't think he's going anywhere but there's so much chaos going on in the party, who knows what's going to happen. i personally don't think he's going anywhere.

>> trace: phil. >> i think it's a lose lose situation. for the people who want him to go, if he does leave, then they have to callable someone together quick. if he stays, republicans have all the ads they could hope for with other democrats saying he's not capable and qualified and can be president. >> trace: dee. >> i just have this sense that the family is in this with him, like they are all in. he's staying. that family pressure, i think that's powerful and i think he's going to stay. >> trace: rabbi. >> democrats are very loyal. he's going to stay, he's not going anywhere, this is just noise so that we don't talk about the economy. >> trace: it's interesting because a week ago, ten days ago i thought oh, no, he's out, there's no chance he's going to make this, dr, but now they are starting to rally around him and the media is starting to swing in his direction. >> jill biden is hanging on for dear life. that's who's driving it. >> trace: okay, there you go. we asked what you think, you still feel it's a possibility he
