more divided on president biden. live in new york summer gear on today. bill hemmer live. >> dana: summer now? >> bill: it feels like it. it will be flying by. >> dana: i have the fox weather app. i'm dana perino, this is "america's newsroom." the nancy pelosi news is interesting and calls herself a speaker emeritus. a growing number of democrats are calling on the president to step aside or predict he will lose in november and evidence to back it up. former speaker nancy pelosi was asked about that and not a vote of confidence. >> as long as the president has -- it's up to the president to decide if he is going to run. we're all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short. the -- i think overwhelming support of the caucus, it's not

for me to say, i'm not the head of the caucus anymore. he is beloved, he is respected, and people want him to make that decision. not me. >> he has said he made the decision, firmly this week he is going to run. do you want him to run? >> i want him to do whatever he decides to do. and that's the way it is. whatever he decides we go with. >> dana: former president trump is reveling in the turmoil and what he said last night in florida. >> the radical left democrat party is divided in chaos and having a full scale breakdown all because they can't decide which of the candidates is more unfit to be president. we're so absolute that joe's own party wants him to throw in the towel and surrender the presidency after a single 90-minute performance. they want crooked joe out of the

race. >> bill: that from florida last night. the story develops by the hour truly. aishah hosni reports on the hill. senior white house correspondent jacque heinrich at the convention center where a nato event will begin in moments. let's start with you, jacque. good morning. >> good morning, bill. president biden broadly dismisses the hand wringing from rank and file lawmakers, but if democratic leadership were to line up in front of him and demand he drop from this race he has not vowed to defy them and push forward. the trouble is for those who want him out, there is no consensus on who instead should lead the ticket. and in the absence of that kind of plan democratic leadership is with biden and telling their members to put this whole discussion on hold at least while he is hosting 31 foreign leaders for the nato summit. >> let him deal with this nato conference. this is a very big deal. let's just hold off. whatever you are thinking,

either tell somebody privately but you don't have to put it out on the table until we see how we go this week. >> it's not just lawmakers who are spotlighting their concerns about the president's age. the "wall street journal" reports german officials aware of biden's fatigue at night sought to accommodate the president by planning a june 2022 event with german chancellor schultz in the early evening. biden didn't show surprising the chancellor and his aides. secretary of state antony blinken arrived and announced biden had gone to bed according to two people who were there. the state department denied that blinken said anything of that sort. since the debate the president has fallen short in his efforts to convince people he was just having a bad night. george stephanopolous saying this just yesterday. >> do you think biden should step down? you talk to him more than anybody else lately and you can be honest. >> tomorrow the president has

another shot at convincing people in his first solo press conference since last november, bill. >> bill: the white house doing more cleanup now after the president's meeting with a neurologist. what was said and what is being said now? >> pretty stunning. the white house yesterday insisted that none of the eight visits by the parkinson's specialist dr. cannard made over eight months had anything to do with the president's care. late last night they admitted a january 17th meeting had to do with biden. they said it was for a neurological exam he had as part of his annual physical which was not reported until a month later. the press secretary released this statement. because the date wasn't mentioned in the question the january 17th meeting between dr. o'connor and cannard was for the president's physical. one of three times the president has seen dr. cannard, each time

for his physical. the findings from each exam have been released to the public. the white house physician also released a letter after monday's press briefing when the press secretary refused to discuss any of cannard's visit citing security reasons. the second cleanup in as many days. >> bill: jacque, thank you. we'll watch every movement there. jacque heinrich in d.c. >> donald trump is on track, i think, to win this election. maybe win it by a landslide and take with him the senate and the house and so for me this isn't a question of polling, not a question about politics, it is a moral question about the future of our country and i think it is critically important for us to come to grips with what we face if together we put this country on the path of electing donald trump again. >> dana: president biden's dam slowly breaking amongst members of his own party. lawmakers more divided after the

meeting on the hill yesterday. aishah hosni has more. i'm sure the halls are abuzz. >> good morning, dana. we were expecting this to happen as the days went on and the more people started to see each other face-to-face and talk to each other. this is a big deal. the first sitting senator to ask the president to step aside. we know that brown and tester privately feel like the president has an uphill battle as well but haven't publicly asked him to step aside. here is what senator brown from ohio told our camera yesterday. watch. >> i'm hearing discussions and legitimate questions about the president and i continue to listen and my job is -- >> should he step down in your opinion? >> i've said what i'll say. >> no consensus. yesterday another moderate

called on biden to go. still no consensus on the president's future after a two-hour long private caucus meeting which party leaders said was really never the goal. >> you know, our caucus meeting today was about listening to members. there was no instruction to get on the same page. right now president biden is the nominee and we support the democratic nominee. >> i don't know if you caught that there, dana. he said right now the president is the nominee, as if that might change sometime in the future. by the way, you might remember a man named dean phillips, congressman who tried to primary the president and got lambasted by his own party for doing so. he told our reporters yesterday that democrats are now coming up to him and privately apologizing. dana. >> dana: he is on a quiet told you so lap. thank you, josh holmes is here. so much to talk about. can i ask you about nancy
6:09 am
pelosi's decision? she booked herself on president biden's favorite morning show. she says that she wants him to do what he wants to do. i said to bill that's when your mom says i trust you will do the right thing. you know what she wants you to do. you know the hill and those dynamics very well and interesting because she is speaking whereas hakeem jeffries, who is now the leader of the democrats on the house side, has not said anything. but she to me was giving members of her party on the house side the permission to go forward and say what they really believe. let's get your take. >> no question about it, dana. i think that's exactly what she is doing there. i think you have to start with the reality that there is nobody who knows joe biden more than nancy pelosi and presumably members of that conference. they've known his physical condition for quite some time. their concern has only arisen when the rest of the country has been let in on their little

secret two weeks ago. now it's a political problem. most of this concern they could care less if they are winning an election but when they are trailing donald trump now it's a problem. the problem is they didn't have a plan b even from the very beginning their plan was to try to convict and elevate donald trump in a court of law, market that conviction and never have a conversation about joe biden's fitness for office at all. now that that plan has slid sideways, it's not great for democrats. >> bill: you know when the late night folks turn against you something is moving, right? something is moving beneath your feet. some humor with john stewart from monday night. >> the debate was a shocking display of cognitive difficulty. biden's performance and ability to inarticulate. i couldn't believe what i was watching. he had been home for almost two weeks. he was jet lagged? how big is that jet? the point is for a campaign
6:11 am
based on honesty and decency, the spin about the debate appears to be blatant [bleep]. >> bill: pete aguilar is a democrat from california. a lot of people are thinking this. let's see the press conferences and campaign stops and see all this. all of it is going to be necessary. that gets to the point of wait and see and see how he does. >> i mean, i don't know what we're waiting to see here at all, bill. this has been evident for quite some time where joe biden is. i get a kick out of the democrats well, he just needs to be more aggressive and get out there more. it sort of exacerbates the problem. they act as though all of us in america have not experienced the aging process. like we don't have parents or grand parents, like we haven't watched what this process looks like.
6:12 am
somehow he will snap out of it and be a 1985 version of joe biden. he is not going to be. there is nothing to watch. i think their problem is their alternatives. if you throw kamala harris into the mix as number two is now a nominee, one, she starts without the infrastructure but i don't think there is good evidence she polls better than an infirm joe biden at least in the states that matter when you talk about michigan, wisconsin, pennsylvania, georgia, nevada, arizona. there is 0 evidence to suggest it is a better alternative. they're stuck and not sure what to do and why you see this thing playing out in the media, which is nothing short of a black swan event when you have "the new york times," "washington post" and others talking about the problems that lie within the democratic party. >> bill: that quote goes to if he makes another mistake that's a pile on. >> dana: it's unsustainable. are we supposed to watch every word for him to have a slip-up when the answer is michael
6:13 am
bennett is speaking for a lot of people. not easy. you don't want to disrespect the president or your party but he is like he will lose and he said it is a moral choice about the future of the country and party because he is concerned that president biden might not even have what it takes to be president right now. derek thompson wrote this. the main difference between where i am and where biden defenders are, i've become confident that biden's age, not trump, not project 2025, not january 6th, biden's age is the centerpiece of this election. profoundly losing issue and not a solvable problem. so if the democrats know that they are heading down a path where they will fall off the cliff, do they make a decision to try to avert that disaster? >> i think they are trying, dana, i really think. listen to all the quotes. what's underlying everything from michael bennett. he is a brave maneuver for a member of your party with an
6:14 am
incumbent president to say he is not our best stuff. if you listen to even what michael bennett said. not about his fitness for office but the political prospects. he said in the interview two or three times we'll lose the senate and the house and lose. underlying all this concern is we may not have a job next november, right? so that's why i think a lot of american people are concerned about this. it looks cynical. all of these people were willing to keep it hidden to the rug when you were let in on the joke and now that you know about it we have a political problem and let's deal with it. >> bill: we'll talk soon. >> dana: see you in milwaukee. >> bill: president trump issued another challenge last night. he wants to have another debate with joe biden and do it without moderators. let's do it on fox, right? that wasn't the only competition he proposed as well as doral. >> i'm also officially challenging crooked joe to an 18-hole golf match right here
6:15 am
and i will even give joe biden ten strokes a side, ten strokes. that's a lot. that means 20 strokes in case you don't play golf. i will give him ten strokes a side. if he wins i will give the charity of his choice, any charity that he wants, $1 million. >> bill: biden campaign quickly with a statement saying joe biden doesn't have time for donald trump's weird antics. he is busy leading america and defending the free world. only out for himself. par for the course, end quote. >> dana: when i read the statement from the campaign i was like they are clever and the young people working on the campaign are good at what they do. their boss can't articulate that. you can't have biden and trump going one for one against each other. if trump is going to go after and you have a campaign staffer, it doesn't -- goes right past. >> bill: like this tweet from march 30th. donald, my offer to play golf --
6:16 am
i guarantee joe biden didn't write that tweet. he did play golf for a long time in his life. you don't phrase it that way. everyone knows that. we know that from reading sports every day. dana marie. >> dana: we'll see josh holmes in milwaukee.
