sometime next week for the president to continue in the race. it appears that the most powerful names in the democratic party don't have biden's back. cnn reports that former president obama and nancy pelosi privately expressed concerns. they are not sure what to do. "more than a dozen members of congress, operatives, and multiple people in touch, many of whom say that the end for biden's candidacy feels clear. at this point, it is a matter of how it plays out even after thursday night's news conference. if those two feel otherwise, several leading democrats say, they need to say that clearly as soon as possible before even more damage is done less than 4 months before the election. tomi, what we are watching in a seemingly slow-motion yet at the same time barreling down the tracks seems to be an absolutely imploding candidacy with different vectors that it seems are all of a sudden defecting

from the media to potentially former president obama and perhaps none more potentially impactful than the $90 million from donors that is being used as ransom. >> how do you win as a democrat without that media behind you, without hollywood behind you, without big money donors behind you, without your own party behind you? that is a pretty steep hill to climb if you're anybody. this president might not feel like it is time for him to hang it up. everybody else around him feels like it's time for him to hang it up. this all feels very coordinated. none of this to me feels spur of the moment. i don't think this was a matter of two weeks ago the decision was made. i have felt for a long time that this has been a coordinated and planned effort. i don't think they were ever going to go with joe biden on the top of the ticket. they are very worried about a vice president kamala harris. they need to win the rust belt states. joe biden does much better in those states than kamala harris does. the only reason it is taking

this long is because they don't know what to do with a vice president, harris at the top of that ticket. that's the only reason in my view that it has taken this long. if last night was supposed to calm everyone's fears, he do that. he did better than some people thought of him about the bar was so low. he still messed up several times. that is when everyone is talking about today. some are talking about his mastery of foreign policy. a lot more people are talking about the fact that he confused his own vice president with the former president trump. to me, the snowball is rolling down the hill. you can reverse the snowball. >> at the end of the day, cheryl, well that president hang on beyond all these clambering voices, or will he eventually have to succumb and try to salvage some dignity? what you see with that and the voters in their response? >> you start to pull funding. i could be a big sway. talking about this $90 million that is frozen. they would only say in this

report that just came out within the last hour that they only expected contributors who had paws donations to return once the current uncertainty about the ticket was resolved. we know jill and hunter, his relationship reportedly was chuck schumer, there is a trust problem with chuck schumer. hakeem jeffries hasn't been in power long enough. even though we know hakeem jeffries did speak with the president and sent out that letter which we have seen said -- he didn't say step down or stay. well, i did voice my concerns to the president last night. at the end of the day, i go back to the $240 million kamala harris has at her disposal if she is on the ticket. i think this is why the donors are freezing the money. because they know that it's not just about joe biden anymore. this is about congress. this is about the house, the senate. if these democratic senators and congresspeople start to really be concerned about their own

positions, that is when the conversation changes in the pressure ramps up. >> i want to talk you about the campaign. everyone is fulfilling their jobs. i can be a myopic position. honestly those working at the campaign, they are the last ones to throw in the towel. the campaign chair saying if we can get through these two weeks that we are living through, we can get through anything. she used a few expletives about how tough it has been lately. the question remains, do you think that these two weeks will be make or break for this president? as 4 years of policy laid that table for a couple of straw that broke the camel's back that are irreversible? do you think he can succeed pas? >> she is in survival mode with her team. if they start to break, then there really is no going back. i think if it is a matter of surviving the two weeks, and should have been a matter of surviving the first 48 hours.

is that the path to the point of no return. once they are playing the money card, i saw that. that is really of the strongest thing. if you don't have money, you are really done far. everything that's going around accounts, one thing we talked about is if they felt so good about their alternative, vice president, harris, they would have been out days ago. that's their problem. the backup option is also no good. that is why they are stuttering and trying to figure out if they can salvage anything. they either keep joe biden on the ballot and the dumpster truck no quotes or they replace him and still have to spend weeks if not months validating it to their voters who were very upset with their party right now. >> even before this madness, we have 6 states that all states that all of a sudden flipped and became battleground swing states leading toward trump in new york. it is a state biden won by 23

points. it is against the landscape that is potentially untenable all of a sudden this happened. kamala polls less than he does. why do you see happening with the voters? >> because of the shift you mentioned with the voters. joe is done. the voters don't like joe. i would just caution on this. did you see the reaction from some in the media last night? have you heard the reaction to last night's press conference from biden enablers in the white house? those entities thought that joe did a good job. rachel maddow articulated that joe biden was amazing on foreign policy last night. so if that is what is in joe biden's a year -- we know he listens to his enablers in the white house and watches msnbc. we know that joe has a tremendously outsized ego.

i think joe is staying in the race. i did radio. i asked her about this. she said, i have interviewed the chief of staff to jill biden. let me tell you. they have been girding for this moment for 50 years. they are not going to give up the presidency that easily. if i am the republicans next week, what do i do with all of this information? i drive home over 4 straight days that we the g.o.p. are the party of unity and the democrats are the party of absolute disarray. why do i do that? the republican national convention is not just for the fox viewer. it's for the nation to givens the undecided voter who to pull the lever four. if you can distance yourself from the disarray that republicans had with all the speaker kerfuffle's over the last couple of years and say you thought that was bad, you ain't seen nothing yet. look at the democrats right now. they are imploding. i think that helps not only donald trump at every single one

that we spoke with that they are so furious about is the idea that when people have gone to these inner circle of advisors around the president who expressed some of these concerns that they were not taken seriously or really brushed aside. this is what one top democrat told me. everyone who expresses any level of suspicion or contrary views, they call everyone -- stay on message. it is not just the entered circle of advisors that is getting a lot of this heat. it's members of the president's family who of course have been up there. really standing by the president's decision to so far stay in this race. >> it's not just keeping them hidden from the polls. he hasn't been given the actual polls. we are finding out that there is retaliation happening. >> this is officially the narrative that has been existing for decades that joe biden's old uncle joe from scranton. common man joe. let's be real. joe biden is part of and in

we have learned that the stations edited president biden's interview at the campaign's request. they actually did that. we also are learning that a close look at more than two dozen radio and podcast interviews given by mr. biden over the past 2 years, emily, 2 years, appearance after appearance, he was served up nearly identical questions, prescreened and nearly every case the questions that the president had to deliver on message talking points without notable clubs. >> though made this story has been told learning what is behind the scenes, that began as a seeming protection. it developed into deception. it came from deception into your point, downright aggression. the end of the day, i posit it is not just this president or small group of advisors. this is the democratic party. the democratic party is not the one that we grew up with.

it is not the ones that our parents grew up with. it is a machine, and unforgiving cruel toxic machine. the notion that you are able to either think for yourself as we have seen has been punished whether you are in the media, whether you have a d before your name and you dare to say your own mind, whether you have a certain skin color and vote a different way, you are reminded that the democratic party stands for in lockstep. the tight control of deception, aggression of everything behind the president. to this point, i just say that take it the next step -- which is the next president will be exactly the same. there is a manufactured quality to them. it's not going anywhere. make sure you vote with the letter are next to the name and tell your neighbors to do so. >> if you listens last night to house intelligence committee ranking member of jim himes from connecticut. he's a democrat. he came out after the president's news conference and said, basically, i can't support

this anymore. listen to what he said on msnbc. >> is really not about the night and one of the sick aspects of this moment is that we are watching every speech, every rally, every debate and saying, how did he do today? that isn't just not the way to think about the presidency of the united states. >> as of today, 18 democrats have said they are no longer with president biden. >> they felt comfortable in doing so. i want to go back to the milwaukee radio stations that edited at the white house request. the white house would only ask for that if the white house thought they were going to get that. to me when people are talking about his allies and the people closest to him, coddling him and shielding him. i actually don't buy that much blame on them. what else are they supposed to do? they work for the president.

now they feel comfortable throwing him to the wolves. prior to that, their job is in some regards to insulate them. i understand that is part of their job. i don't like it. i feel deceived as an american. but i don't understand and give no grace for is that media members who have for the last several years been willing to take direction from the white house and edit things out and deceive the american people. because their job as members of the media is not to work for the white house. the white house felt so comfortable making these requests or demands, that is what worries me. long after biden is done, we still have a majority of the media that has been complicit in this. that's not gonna go away with a new nominee. that is what jimmy is terr terrifying. >> we have been reporting on this network. i think what is interesting is to see that white house press corps do a complete turnaround. particular, a very, very bad couple of weeks.

>> these couple of weeks have been worse. all that is changed is that the president stopped covering for them. because this has been the game all along. they meant part of it. i worked on capitol hill for ten years. i was the press secretary. i work and consider him a very good fair reporter. we were getting drinks one time. it's part of the game. he said, you know, i hate working with democrats and stories. if it is anything less than 100 present going, i get requests for every semantic quote. republicans are, like, that was fair. we will keep talking you. you. republicans expect that it's not going to be fair. you get something on really important that people need to remember. do not forgive the press or the dnc regardless of whatever happens after these 14 days. this is the game. they have been playing it long since before donald trump was president.

aside. no matter what pullback you throw on the screen. >> we got the first female vice president by default as well. we were told bluntly that it was a box to be checked. essentially, we are stuck with what we've got. that's why she would be such a horrible commander in chief. she's been a horrible vice president. that has nothing to do with race or. it has to do with underperformance. >> i'm sorry, this country is racist, but her 2 terms, we have an elected an african american president. barack obama. i'm a little confused about what she's talking about. the polling is an issue. i think that if you look at the first 2 years of kamala harris. she was kind of a disaster. the border czar job that didn't go well for her. she has really honed on abortion. that is something that republicans at their own peril should not miss.

if she is going to be the candidate -- it looks like they are seriously looking at her as the new candidate and biden steps aside. she is going to go on to college campuses. another point about harris. she was giving -- she was at a rally. the word biden came out of her mouth wants in her entire prepared remarks at this rally, this campaign rally. you can tell me that kamala harris and her team are not gearing up and getting re ready. underestimate kamala harris at your own peril. >> do you think it is inevitable? >> i have this feeling that joe biden is going to hold on despite every single thing we have seen. i'm not underestimating kamala harris. that is of vital point. back to the original topic, of i am sexist and i racist because kamala harris has a significant lack of accomplishment. that is just wrong. that doesn't make me sexist or racist because she failed to do

programming is already taken out. they have put out a six-figure and all around the milwaukee area which includes these that you are looking at as well as billboards that call donald trump a convicted felon. and also hit him on abortion. guys obviously the biggest news we are going to be waiting on his who is former president trump going to select as his vp? trump has confirmed some of the names that have been floated out there are people under consideration. ohio senator j.d. vance and florida senator marco rubio and tim scott in north dakota governor. a matter of days away from finding out who it's going to be. wednesday night here in milwaukee, whoever that candidate is, they are going to be speaking. that is when we will find out and send it back to you. >> todd piro. there is a lot to cover. >> i recover from that.

what say you? what do you predict is going to happen? >> we have been talking about this vp pick forever. everyone has been speculating. donald trump has been pretty consistent. i won an executive who can take over this job. it was an executive who has run something? all roads lead to doug burgum if donald trump takes that route or glenn youngkin. glenn youngkin also provides the potential to flip virginia. pay attention to those names. if donald trump sticks to what he said, it's going to have to be one of those two people. >> i feel like we are playing the game of "glue." >> doug burgum would be an excellent choice. they like a steady hand. doug burgum has been that purity has been very loyal. to the point we made on the last segment families also in lockstep with donald trump on his stance on a federal abortion ban and not bending abortion at a federal level.

i think that is going to be important. i am still holding out some kind of a crazy hope that maybe, just maybe, governor ron desantis is still in the mix. going to ron desantis is a proven leader. america's best governor. i would love to see it. i think it would be so exciting and invigorating. i think if he wants to go someone that is a safe choice that can run the country that is a businessman and doesn't read so political, i think doug burgum is a great choice. glenn youngkin also. i haven't heard it as much as doug burgum. it would still be a good choice, a safe bet. >> i wanted to ask your analysis against this potential backdrop. we talked about how president trump has been foc focused. the point is economics. at the end of the day, car insurance up almost 53% under biden's reign. gasoline up 50% under biden's reign and a whole host of other things. dozens and dozens and dozens of

necessary household items and things that run the economy. the question is, under that backdrop, what candidate do you think is strongest that will resonate with americans who say we need help? >> we did not coordinate before the show. i'm going to go with doug burgum or not to be a copycat. maybe i am. >> as long as you don't call her, "sir" and we are good. >> there has to be a personality fit. you look at burgum's experience before he was the governor, he is a very well-respected business executive. from one business executive to another, i think that trump would look to burgum to be that number two. i want someone who can run the country. i do believe that burgum has that clout and that foreign policy experience. i can see trump leaning on him for that. when you are an executive, you are not just going out cutting deals. it's about relationships. it's about understanding different cultures.

i think that burgum brings out as well. >> we do not show people into boxes. there is the import of certain voting populations, african american, hispanic. >> i didn't expect to be the contrary in on the couch today. i was supposed to be your job. actually, i like all the options. i don't think he can go wrong with anyone who has been mentioned. i think you are referring to senator tim scott who speaks to a voting bloc that we have been making inroads with end donald trump has been making inroads with. don't sleep on j.d. vance who makes incredible inroads. he literally grew up in appalachia. when you're talking about the rust belt and pennsylvania, michigan, the areas where people are feeling the grocery prices. j.d. vance says i know that life. i made it to the ivy league spirit, setting senator. i'm the american dream personified. i want to help promote policies that keep that dream alive for
