in, democrats are turning out a new talking point, that biden's bumbles are almost reassuring to america, because he would not be joe without them. >> the gas and mixing up names, i think are people who have been observing joe biden for a really long time, know that it's just normal biden, he had the energy in the capacity, the ability to be normal, to be normal joe biden. >> laura: it's normal? no, it's imbecilic. an adjective followed by his entire adult life. we all know why obama did not give them any assignments. >> i will put the president stamina, presidents wisdom, ability to get this done on behalf of of the american people against anyone. anyone of any day of the week. >> laura: but no matter how hard his supporting cast tries to spin this, people who are paying attention certainly reporters covering biden were fully aware of how fast he was slipping.

in his cabinet, and sure as heck did not vote for hunter, who knows, maybe a few did. what everyone needs to remember tonight is that they were willing to keep this con going for four more years, even now they will stand by their decrepit man. of course, politico says it's just a conservative conspiracy theory, all of this, but in fact officials are tacitly admitting that they in fact didn't know that joe biden was a mess. abc interviewed several attendees at the white house juneteenth celebration, a former obama white house official described him at the event as aloof and stiff in his speech is garbled. yet they were okay with writing with a broken down barely coherent joe biden. one law mode curve says her assessment of the president at the event came after she had privately raised concerns to the white house staffers month before jokingly saying they could keep the president stitched together until the

election. keep him stitched together? that really is weekend at biden's. the most transparent administration ever. what we told that? how desperate are they told on the power? alabama state rep told abc news, i am a democrat, i'm going to vote for biden, if he is on a diaper, if he's in a stroller, but am i concerned? absolutely, if i have to give consideration to joe biden or donald trump, i'm going joe biden, and a diaper. i added that. this is shameless, not only further coordinated efforts to conceal his condition, but for the damage that these people inflicted on america over the past three and half years, all of them deserve total political annihilation. so november must be a repudiation, not just up there scheming about his condition, but of their disastrous policies that their figurehead president put in place to rob america

against actor alec baldwin, jonathan hunt outside the courtroom with more. what can you tell us? >> well, laura, it's been a remarkable and to what has been an extraordinary day. alec baldwin left court a short time ago saying nothing at all, but safe in the knowledge that he is tonight a free man. the involuntary manslaughter charge against him dismissed by the judge. after his lawyers filed a motion to dismiss, that was based on the idea that a box of bullets that was made available to the defense was then not passed on by them as part of the evidence so that date, the defense never saw that box of bullets which they say may well have been connected to the shooting, the fatal shooting of halyna hutchins on the set of the movie "rust" and could have bolstered their claim that alec baldwin had no way of knowing that a life around would have been in the gun. now the judge asked if she could

examine those bullets herself? she did so and what was an extraordinary moment in court donning latex gloves as she did so, then without a jury present listen to testimony including from the lead prosecutor herself that argued that those bullets would never on the set and therefore they they defense did not believe they were relevant. that's why they did not give them to the prosecution. the judge listened to all of that then issued her ruling, listen. >> devastates a discovery violation has objected needless to cure a double delay into the instant trial, dismissal with prejudice is warranted to ensure the integrity of the judicial system and the efficient administration of justice. your motion to dismiss with prejudice is granted. >> when he heard those words, alec baldwin immediately began sobbing, breaking down in the courts, his wife hilaria baldwin behind them also shedding tears.

[applause] 390,000 of those jobs right here in michigan! we created 800,000 manufacturing

jobs including 24,000 in michigan! unemployment is down to 4%, record lows for more than two years, historic low unemployment for hispanics, black, asian americans, including here in michigan! look! just yesterday, reported because of my economic plan, inflation is down again, again! overall prices fell last month, core inflation so low as it has been in three years, on the cars, appliances, airfares, grocery prices have fallen sf start this year, we have more to do. we will take corporate greed and take it on! since the pandemic, corporations have doubled their profits, i understand corporations, i come from a corporate capital of the world, more in my state than any other state combined, i'm not anti-corporation, but i am anti-greed, that's what i am!

meanwhile, donald trump wants to ride around in his golf cart trying to hit the ball, he has called for, serious, he has called for a 10% tariff on everything we import including fruits, vegetables, coffee, and the leading economies in this country tell us his plan would cost working families $2,500 a year in new taxes. that's a fact, not a joke. folks, the vast majority of greed our economy is moving in the right direction, jobs are up, the economy continues to grow, inflation is down. and i love telling donald trump this even though i don't own any stock, the stock market is at a historic high closing over $40,000.

[applause] people are getting a little worried as they are so many moderate and mainstream republicans, not all republican, mainstream economists support me, look, there are more people with more money in their 401(k)s than they ever did before. and folks, you don't have to take my word for it, 16 nobel laureates in economics agree, under my economic plan, they say that we are going to continue to grow and keep inflation down. they say that trump's plan would put the economy in recession. 116 nobel laureates last week sy it would put the in a recession and inflation would soar. in fact, i guess is he worried, but "the wall street journal" survey of economists say it would be worse under donald trump, that's "the wall street journal." great paper, usually not supportive of me. [laughter] do you really want to go back to

the chaos of donald trump as president? back when the united states lost 3 million jobs, and by the way, by the way, donald trump is the only president in american history other than herbert hoover who lost more jobs than he had when he came in. that's why i call him donald herbert hoover trump! remember the days when people were dying, literally dying and we were pushing on the covid effort, and guess what, he told us, don't worry about covid, it's not that bad. just inject bleach in your arm, i think you must have hit his head. look, remember when donald trump was transgressing peaceful protest across the white house

lawn, who were marching for justice, look, folks, you know, if it was not so serious, it would be like a made up novel what happened. i'm not complaining, i'm just saying, you may have noticed, but since the debate, the press and they're good guys and women up there, they have been hammering me, i make a lot of mistakes. no, no, no. it's okay. they've been hammering me because i sometimes confuse names. i say that charlie instead a bill, but guess what, donald trump has gotten a free pass. he had not done a damn thing until a couple of days ago, who is filling out a scorecard before he picks up his glove rambling about, what he has been

[applause] look, this is deadly earnest, when that butcher vladimir putin who i have known for a long time, when he invaded ukraine,

here is what trump said, he called him a genius and said it was wonderful. what in the hell is going on? the people would rather talk about how i mix up names, i guess they don't remember that trump called nikki haley nancy pelosi. well, no, no more! donald, no more free passes. today we are going to shine a spotlight on donald trump, we are going to deal with the press, so far hasn't, but i think they will soon, we will say who he is emma what he intends to do, folks, donald trump is a convicted criminal. jury of his peers of 34 felonies for paying hush money to a porn star. donald trump is found liable for sexual assault by a judge who told us not to be fooled by his precedent at all. he wrote mr. trump to minimize sexual abuse, you are finding it frivolous, mustard trump raped her. that's the judge's language, not mine, raped her. many people understand the word rape. donald trump is in fraud. he lost his license to do business in new york state. and finds over $400 million to have false information to banks.

and he still is facing charges for mishandling classified information which is a criminal offense. still facing charges of trying to over throw the outcome of the election. still facing charges in georgia for election interference. remember his phone call? just need 11,781 votes. naming another president that has done any of that? look, you want to know how bad a businessman he really is, just think about this, he had millions of dollars only to squander it. he's filed bankruptcy six times. he went bankrupt running a casino. i did not think that was possible. >> laura: joining us now, michael rosato, former press secretary for jill biden. michael, you said that there

were two different versions of reality in your party right now, well what we saw tonight clearly the speechwriters, the advisors saying just go back on offense, say that you are winning, you're the nominee, you are not going anywhere, go back through all the law fair and try to switch the conversation back to donald trump, because he got to nancy pelosi's name wrong ones, is that going to work? >> i don't know if it's going to work. what it is going to do right now is sort of tried to comfort to democrats, and buy him some time with members of congress. and i think that that's the immediate goal, and it should be, frankly, because right now he has not had a sort of general election math problem, he is a democrat and a supporter problem whether it's the donor community, members of congress, you know, questionable friends who are questioning what they should do on the side of voters, look, that's what this is about tonight.

it is the most aggressive that i've ever seen him probably go after donald trump, they are trying to probably get under his skin, i assume that that's intentional, because they want to see donald trump sort of -- they want to see the undisciplined donald trump, that's what they know will remind voters why the country fired him last time, they want to remind voters of what he is calling the chaos of those four years. and that's what you're seeing right here. >> laura: i want to get into the atmospherics of this tonight, because a lot of this is stagecraft. and i have been on this point, because "the new york times" made a big deal of it and i think that they were right to, to, at a profile democrats of any stature decided to be elsewhere tonight, they knew that joe biden was going to come out swinging, they knew that the staff were going to put them on offense, that's all they could do. they can't relate defending economy, they can't, they can't

do it. they can't defend the border, the camp defend perpetual war, they can't defend american still held hostage in gaza, and they knew that this would happen and they decided not to sit there and clap like seals like all of the people behind him tonight. what does that tell you about the mood of the democratic party at this moment, watching what is happening tonight? >> that there is a lot of skepticism, and that's why when you asked is this speech going to be enough, i don't know if anyone speech is going to be enough, and that's just honesty, like i love the guy. i worked for them, i love him, i'm going to vote for them, but to be honest when i talk about two reality is, we have to be honest about what is happening in the party right now, and it is very divided over what he should be doing, and i don't know if one speech can really solve that problem because it's not really about him anymore, and i don't know if they understand that. i hope that they start to come of these members, the senators have to start seeing a

difference in their own poll numbers before they can start getting back on the team. >> laura: you are nice to sit there during all of those. we'll talk to you soon. thanks so much. join me now, former active dhs secretary, former adviser to president clinton, also a democratic pollster and strategist, i want to go first to you, doug, because we predicted this would happen, they keep losing democrats. it's every hour it seems like there is another democrat teetering on the edge of abandoning joe biden, and publicly abandoning him. they think that going on the offense could make people kind of get a little temporary amnesia about what the rest of america is seeing. will that actually be successful? >> well, i think what they will do is basically run the clock out and it's a two faced strategy. you are exactly right, attacked

donald trump, but also, because they don't have a positive message, use populism, though old old-fashioned go to the democrats always use when they are in trouble, al gore used it, democrats have used it for time immemorial, they are trying to run out the clock, because the democratic leadership clearly wants joe biden out, he is trying to just make time his friend and so far, the leadership has not come up with a critical mass to say joe must go, this is an event to just try to freeze the action, not persuade anybody. >> laura: i want to talk about what's going on in cabinet meetings which became a topic of conversation, and chad wolf coming up have been in cabinet meetings, you know how they run, well, we are learning just now, it's convenient timing about how cabinet members have to submit

questions in writing to the staff i guess, to manage how this all will go down. a full cabinet meeting has not taken place since last october, did donald trump need written questions from people? or was it more freewheeling off-the-cuff? >> [laughs] well, you know the answer to that, obviously. it's freewheeling, no talking points to the president. most cabinet meetings i was involved in was a continuation of other meetings that i would have with president trump. he was up to speed on most of the issues asking the hard questions and did not have to provide any questions or answers or talking points and he had a discussion. and i think, and i was in a lot of oval office meetings as well where you would have some pretty tense discussions about serious issues. you had disagreements within the the cabinet or the senior officials, and i don't think any of that is occurring today. i don't think joe biden is in any of those discussions with us cabinet over senior officials and i think that's what the american people want to.

they want governments working for them. they want hard decisions being answered, and taking on some of these tough issues, and i think when i see president biden, unfortunately, they don't see a chief executive that is -- has command over those types of issues. >> laura: he was screaming at one point that he's not going anywhere and because people aren't quite -- you know, up to speed on issues, he said i am the nominee. so i think by the sheer force of will and doug knows this, the stubbornness of joe biden, he is one of the most stubborn, and i would say selfish politicians out there, as if, i've been here for 50 years, good luck trying to push me out. i think stubbornness and ego is a big part of this. very quickly. >> oh, i think that's absolutely right. he does not want his legacy to be that he had to drop out, that he was seen as incompetence, and he believes by yelling, screaming, and demanding, he can keep his position as the

to full citizenship. so what he is going to do is have those migrants set up with citizenship so they can replace the black vote that he loses. when donald trump said during the debate that joe biden is taking black jobs and giving them to migrants, he was correct. when they see what you mean by black jobs? go deal with the reality. warehouse, trucking, security. and a lot of those jobs are going to who? the migrants. >> i really like him. i don't know him but i like him, i'm going to follow him. that was no-nonsense. >> this is what i heard from a lot of african-american voters at the essence festival. no matter who they are supporting, they're very concerned about illegal immigrants coming into their community. and i just pulled the record, the u.s. commission on civil rights did a study on this. the immigrants coming into the black community are responsible for a 7 percent decline in low skilled labour among black men and a 9 percent decline on black
