9:00 pm
snipers up there as the crowds were mulling in how long a back i've been up there? >> again they'll all be part of the investigation. >> come up to the mike please question would still be part of the investigation. but i can tell you preliminarily it appears everything unfolded very quickly. so again will have more information on that. it is just too early to start definitively saying this happen at this exact time because it is not like is a cybersecurity perimeter the building was outside? how far outside? >> is correct will have that information for it was some distance outside. quickset reports there were people who saw someone on the roof and tried to alert authorities. >> we are following up on those i will tell you i am aware of those and i am aware law enforcement had responded to a number of reports of suspicious
9:01 pm
activity this specific response of the support of the after action but yes, law enforcement was responding to check on several suspicious occurrences. >> or the other suspicious occurrence? what will be part of the investigation. >> you said you're close to identifying the shooter. could you at least confirm he is from butler county, pennsylvania? is there anything else? did he have any affiliation with that company do you know? >> again we are not prepared at this time to provide the identity of the potential shooter we are in the process of doing the confirmation but once we have a confirmation we will lease the name official each of the press. but at this time we cannot give any further information on the potential. >> what else needs to be done question. >> it is a matter of doing biometric confirmations there was no identification on the individual as an example.
9:02 pm
and so we are looking at photographs right now we are trying to run his dna and get biometric confirmation. laurie would you be able to comment on what police found left behind any possible devices did you find extra guns, anything else she could comment? looks not at this time was on the process of in an active investigation we would like to reserve releasing any information like that until we have more facts. [inaudible] a credible threat is it typical for an event but like this? it's in the fbi perspective know we did not have any specific threat information related to this event. >> you talked about. [inaudible] including the gun and it could've been a lot worse. >> absolutely, absolutely.
9:03 pm
[inaudible] the credit goes to not only the secret service that was on site but also state and local partners who were there on site and able to react immediately when the incident occurred. >> you have any officers fired their weapons? >> i do not. quickset is a lot of questions is this a failure of security? >> really, this a point were not going to make that assessment is an active investigation. a lot of things need to and occur in investigative lead to make those determinations or what, if any failures there were. so we really cannot comment on that this time. but you cannot say secret service are keeping a close eye question chrissy have to defer to secret service for those questions. [inaudible] >> using the location where the shooter was located? i do not have any information on
9:04 pm
them. he would have to defer to secret service. >> when you think you will release the name to shrek with the name of the shooter be released? will that happen tomorrow? >> as soon as we have confirmed one 100% we will release that. as far as the contact information for the press, we should be able to do that within the next few hours i would imagine. [inaudible] is there anything you can tell us about other areas were law enforcement may be searching question. >> are in our tracking down all leads doing all the interviews and tracking anything that we can regarding suspicious locations, vehicle locations, interviewing individuals that's all related to this event. i cannot confirm or deny anything going on beyond that. [inaudible]
9:05 pm
>> is for the details of the weapon? >> until we have a confirmation of who the shooter is we will release that as part of the investigative details later. [inaudible] >> one of the things you said was bomb technician as is standard procedure or do you believe there are bombs somewhere in butler county? >> it is primarily standard procedure of any suspicious packages in this case there is identification suspicious package around where the shooter was. we deployed in an abundance of caution bomb assets to make sure those were cleared for investigators to move safely in the area. we are still working on it still an active crime scene i am not going to say it is seen as one 100% clear at this time. [inaudible]
9:06 pm
>> secret services not available for the press conference at this time. [inaudible] , really anything i do not have specifics on what they were looking at. but their people in the round will leave bags as they are fleeing the scene like this any suspicious packages we have to treat as it may be an explosive device. [inaudible] when uas jumped into action how quickly. [inaudible] >> it was immediate. and we're still trying to figure that out. we will wait until we have more definitive information. [inaudible] person on the ground. >> my understanding was that it was from the shooter.
9:07 pm
but again those of the details released later. >> research phones or apartments? >> of that is where that leads s take us, absolutely. >> was donald trump. [inaudible] >> i do not have that specific information as far as the injuries to the former president. >> is thisthis person known to u guys? [inaudible] >> the information we currently have we are looking at that. obviously very intently. and as we know that information we will release it as well we would need to plan another time for a follow-up press conference. we are looking at all investigative leads everything and that's why we asked the public because i'm sure the be cell phone video, there will be
9:08 pm
all kinds of information that we will use to fully flush out exactly what happened here. >> can you say what type of gun it is? >> i don't. >> i do not have that information for that will come out in the investigation as well. [inaudible] >> as far as these civilians? >> we do have identification on those we are not prepared to release it at this time. we have notified a number of family members but they have not had an opportunity to notify extended family. i would confirm for you we had one individual killed and i know i heard somebody say about two victims there were three in total disc besides the total the former president to critically wounded, one killed. >> where in relation to the former president? >> what site do stage of not have their exact seating by
9:09 pm
individual but again that would part of the investigation. the shots were scattered somewhat and so they were not just into one particular location. >> yes. >> the shooter plus one fatality. there was one victim of the shooter who was killed and then the shooter was killed. yes, ma'am. on a semi automatic rifle is used. >> i've heard those reports as well. and again we do have a good idea but the weapon was. again that is all part of the ongoing investigation i am not trying to be cagey about that. when the sac talked about the need to be very methodical and to be cautious with that scene,
9:10 pm
we are doing just that we do not want anybody else getting hurt candidly there are some concerns will be able to talk about more at later on trust with those concerns are and continue to be. [inaudible] >> as part of the investigation. talks is a lot of really angry people are you wondering if there's other threats in response to this? quickset is certainly a concern. we are monitoring that whole situation. i mention were bringing a lot of assets to bear. like the fbi utilizing their analyst with the pennsylvania criminal intelligence center. we will utilize the resources of our intelligence division the criminal intelligence center to monitor concerns about any threats regardless of the side of the issue or the political spectrum we want to make sure we try it and avoid any further violence. no, sir.
9:11 pm
[inaudible] he same thing about the other folks they were injured or killed? >> they were adults. and they are mail. >> all? yes. [inaudible] what conversations. >> we've trained investigators partnered hand-in-hand with the fbi again with got some federal violations. some state violations and so our investigators are going out methodically we have a large team of investigators that are going out, dividing up these interviews and trying to conduct them as quickly as possible. then there will be follow-ups with the fbi asking for people to call in tips. i have no doubt we will receive a lot of additional information that will also require follow-up
9:12 pm
again we are working very well together it's only a short matter of time until we get through all this interviews. >> how close of a cult was it for president trump? >> there were no police hit with bullets. how close of a cult was it? >> i'm not going to speculate or comment on that. quickset interview talk to the president? did any of you have any reaction? no, no. >> how many agencies. [inaudible] >> secret service always has the lead on securing something like this. but they work very closely. i hate to use the word routine but it is a fairly routine matter for all of our agencies to work jointly with the secret service. it really depends on the venue, on what information is out
9:13 pm
there. but the number of resources are devoted to it. and we work with them to provide whatever is requested by the secret service but they are the lead in that security. >> difficult question i would defer to the secret service to answer that for they would've done the initial assessment. >> was the roof top secured? [inaudible] >> it is my understanding that's thatoutside of the perimeter. >> we are not going to comment on anything about the shooter. >> deny trumps team and the agencies out there? >> not that i am aware of it. >> of trump been the nominee already would he have had additional security? >> there again secret service as the lead i'm not going to comment or speculate what may or may not be provided at any given point depending on their status
9:14 pm
as a candidate. what i will tell you is that in my experience secret service does an excellent job of maintaining security on protect these. they're very cautious they do not hesitate to ask for resources. and candidly we do not hesitate to supply those resources. reporter: [inaudible] that videos and photos. >> i think the videos and photos will be very helpful. and i think once the shooter is identified to anyone who has specific information on that shooter, that would be very helpful as well. to help us assess motive and again as i mentioned earlier we are absolutely not taking for granted this was a lone wolf attack. we'll be looking for any additional information not point us toward anyone else that may have had a hand in this.
9:15 pm
clicks with the main focus of the investigation was the most important thing to do right now? >> are s not any one single foc. certainly the immediate focus was a life safety getting the former president out there and to care, getting care to the other victims and trying to secure the scene as quickly as possible. we then shifted from a life safety priority to then an investigative priority. i guess if i had to point to where we are right now, the single greatest priority would be to identify a motive and whether there is anyone else involved. >> we are just beginning the season. with all the travels and how they'they set up will this chany venues? >> again i would refer you to the secret service in terms of what they work out with the campaigns it. we will continue to support resources at us i am sure the
9:16 pm
fbi will and local partners as well. reporter: [inaudible] more time to find some thing like this? >> i suppose there's a balance in campaigns on either side the point of them announcing it i suspect is they want the crowd and so it is not up to us and law enforcement to tell them when they should announce or how they should announce or how they should conduct that we offer our best advice. again working hand-in-hand with the secret service off our advice how to best protect and secure the venue. >> considering how many people were there they were packed in thethat you have someone in an elevated position with a high powered rifle. sad and tragic is that israel. >> were certainly grateful we do not have more victims and again
9:17 pm
in terms of how this could have occurred that will be part of the after action report. the investigation that occurs we can hopefully ensure something like this does not happen again. hucks is a schedule question. >> is not been conducted yet. [inaudible] >> i do not. [inaudible] >> we have one in her call fbi view of audiotapes we set up a specific tip line for audio and video fbi.gov/butler. >> in a video? >> anything anyone has it is related to this incident that they think you may of assistance investigative that we will take anything and analyze it and make the determination if it's of investigative value. it sounds like law enforcement
9:18 pm
new student w i was up until shs were fired as i was your hearing? quickset is the assessment at this time. >> are you surprised the sniper was able to fire off a handful of shots of the former president? >> again we are still working through these security apparatuses secret service had in place. what potentially happened will be a long investigation into exactly what took place and how the individual is able to get access to the location for what type of weapon he had. all if that is days, weeks, months of investigation. >> it is surprising. but again to get all of the details of that will come out later in the investigation. >> the perimeter of this building. [inaudible] this building had a very high
9:19 pm
vantage point what was the conversation what would that be? >> again the secret service release answer that question. they conduct the initial site surveying. they do the initial security assessments and determine where the different security location should be and they are the ones who are in charge to secure the scene. we, along with other state and local assets are there to support the secret service on their mission. >> how many troopers were at the raleigh before the shooting? how is that number determined? and should there been more? if they do not have the specific numbers i doubt you do as well. >> i can speak for psap. we had physically on site probably 30 -- 40 members of psp we also have additional resources in the area. what utilize aviation for
9:20 pm
example in a variety of other resources dogs to sweep it beforehand but are really not counted in that and again the number is driven by what the request is from the secret service. in their defense i would not it is incredibly difficult to have a venue open to the public and to secure that against any possible threat against a very determined attacker. that is a huge lift to try to do it. and again the investigation will really give us an opportunity to take a look at where any failures occurred and what can be done better in the future. when another briefing might be held? >> we do not have one scheduled i will tell you we will let you know and give you plenty of notice. certainly as soon as additional things develop that would be
9:21 pm
note worthy or of interest to do you we will get that schedule and have another one with you. >> what can expect to happen with investigation of the next couple days was going on there? >> the i what's the interviews will all be occurring in macy law enforcement in their communities people came from a wide area to come to this rally i am told. there is going to be a law enforcement fanning out and as additional calls, photos, videos come in those additional interviews will result in a law enforcement being out in the community conducting those interviews. otherwise they should not see any significant impact in the community. >> is it mail or female homicide the bystander who died? >> it is eight mail. >> a mail? >> yes. [inaudible] text messages back home and
9:22 pm
notice a political question but how do you talk to people. >> again what i would say is this is a tragic incident that occurred. we are not in a position to start second guessing how, why or anything else at this point just know will be thoroughly investigated if there is anyone to prosecute, that will be done. and we will move forward but i do not have a good answer for your projects one last question. you guys were not aware of any additional requests what about the fbi? was there additional security from the trump team was that denied any way, shape, form? >> there's no additional request for security by the fbi.
9:23 pm
>> what's the fbi doing? >> we showed up after the fact it. we were monitoring the event. it was once the incident occurred we come and take the primary jurisdiction for the investigation. >> thank you. as we have additional information we will provide it, thank you. >> good evening everyone i'm tracing gallagher continuing coverage of the assassination attempt as the fbi just said, the assassination attempt against former president trump. they just wrapped up about 38 may be 27 minutes of a news conference i was a pennsylvania state police as well as the fbi giving us information kind of a rundown of what they said is they let off a news conference by saying there were no of the threats. but then they continued to say they had not yet identified the shooter except to say he is a 28-year-old white mail from pennsylvania. they are doing biometrics
9:24 pm
because there was no id on this person doing some biometrics trying to make a positive identification. and then they went on to say a little later than trying to make the positive identification because that is what they need to make sure there are no other threats out there. so a little bit of a contradiction. they do not have a motive yet. they do not believe that there are any other people involved in this, at this point in time. but a lot of things could change in that. it is interesting because they said there is no information related to this event. meeting there were no warning signs. there were no red flags coming into the rally today in butler, pennsylvania. now they're asking for help to try to put the whole thing together meaning they're asking for cell phone video they're asking for any information the public might have and try to piece this altogether. it was all on tape as you have seen that riveting images today. they are looking for more
9:25 pm
angles. they are looking for more context so they can put this thing together played the shooter you see in the top of the building, the building was 130 yards away. the reporting in the fbi would not confirm this. the reporting is an ar style weapon. that was you as you heard the shots right there. the question was asked, there were six, seven, maybe eight shots fired are you surprised the shooter got that many shots off and the answer was yes i am surprised. the question is, what was happening with the response was the response delayed? these are things that are part of the investigation but it is important to note that in all of this deep former president of the united states is out of the hospital he has left the hospital he was shot in his right year. if you look at that as we bring an errant: whose law enforcement specialist is joined us many times you look at what
9:26 pm
is happening here. if we can put up i'm not sure if we have it if we can put up a graphic that shows where the shooter was on top of the building and where the stage was in relation to that. there you have it right there you have the shooter's location. he is to the right you see the stage right there the shooter is on the right-hand side of the president the president is directly looking forward at the crowd that he moves his head left and moves his head right. as he moves his head to the right he is shot in the right year. you talk about it instance of millimeters, centimeters a very small amount of space. if you do not move to the right the back of your head is still the same position and it gives a bigger target for the shooter. is this one of those things we will go into the other details as this one of the things where this is a very lucky former president of the united states.
9:27 pm
>> god it must've been washing down on the president. snipers typically trained to shoot into the sewer reveal or text at the top of the brain stem and t capacity thing keep your hands for moving that's how we training counterterror. trump turning to the right is the distance of the shot is 130 yards, that is a pots anyone can put a two to three optic on a target from that distance and hit it is not a difficult shot to make it. the fact the president was off to the right if his head had been straight in that round i'm going to quote one of my law enforcement associates you are t going to name names but an 18 year sniper competitive shooter made it very clear to me that had the presidents had been straight in the rounded got into the ear it would've been lights out with the fact he just happened to be turned this fight with the shot coming in is what saved his life but there's
9:28 pm
obviously some other failures here i do not want to start beating down on the secret service requests nor should right we do not know enough. the investigation is still being conducted. the body is still warm and let them do their business. i will tell you this, the fbi it works on a multi- ring security package for the personal protection of the president. they called the bubble. but that means is it would take a multi- failure of vent in order for an attacker to be successful. part of the reason why the president is alive and again that footage is still speckled it is not been assembled up bits and pieces we have been seeing online. the fact is one of those rings the second or third ring is the counter snipers surveillance element the sharpshooters what you saw on that roof there is bent some footage ended up sending shots and back as quickly as they could ended up neutralizing that sniper. hat tip to those guys a lot of armchair quarterbacks out there beating up.
9:29 pm
but i have heard it interesting to me as t is there's multiple requests made to director to increase the amount of manpower directly around the immediate perimeter of the president i cannot tell you at the levels of protection are higher for standing president and lower for an out president. but i think they are and then once he is confirmed as the nominee the fbi would not confirm the start of the state police but once he is confirmed we have questions out to the secret service once he is confirmed as the nominate which would happen this week, apparently there is a more robust a presence going forward so that is fair. i'm curious as you look at this and look at the investigation here they say they were no suspicious instances. there were no red flags. we talked about that going into this. nobody was forewarned the reporting is they were warned there was someone climbing up the outside of a building they call agr it is a glass and plastics manufacturer they
9:30 pm
manufacture drinking containers for the most part we do not know any connection the shooter might or may not have with that. but we note this building was outside of the perimeter of the security perimeter. the building was 130 yards away and as erin articulated that is not a far distance when you're talking about a high-power weapon the president was there it is interesting why anybody would be allowed on a tall building i've been to a gazillion of these types of rosy tall buildings are first and foremost to always be secured. >> here is my response is a good question there's a lot of pieces here and it's floating around. what would be the motive of the secret service to not protect every building within all of that vicinity? they went to hit everything so again or i am leaning and it is taking me to the response elements were on target the man was neutralized up and get as quick as they cut less than half a second the inner immediate perimeter protecting the
9:31 pm
president less than a second they were immediately on president trump. covering him, karin the protective shield will be the benefit of the secret service not covering the building where the shot was fired? my opinion where it leads me too believe is there had to been a lack of resources. what would it have been to put a couple of agents on that building to do what's called sterilize it so nobody could get in, no we could get up, no one could get around have a couple long guns and focus on the building it leads me too believe there was a failure in the manpower that is where i am leaning right now. had that building been covered accordingly i believe that shot could not of gotten off it would've been sterile. there is a paper this would be e-mails, is going be phone calls is going to be paper select that investigation play out and then we will see if there was any major gaps in the security preparation based on those requests. >> erin said by fewell which woodringand former fort attornel
9:32 pm
pam bondi as well as former d.c. homicide detective have all these people together? let's bring in former homicide detective ted williams is with us here. we also have from the steamboat institute she is a fellow there thank you for coming on i want to go fight go to you ted williams to pick up very quickly on what erin was talking about. did you notice anything in the fbi state police news conference you found to be interesting? did you notice anything about any of the talking points may be the contradiction saying they don't believe there are other threats out there. and yet they are looking for other information to make sure there are no other threats out there, ted? quickset is a contradiction that clearly needs some clearing. i don't think they know what they actually have at this time. all they know is that the body they have been able to identify the body of a 20-year-old.
9:33 pm
others enough they did not give us a lot of information. but i think we have to let this investigation play out. i am sick and tired of listening all late night long to the politics playing in a serious investigation. a former president of the united states could have been seriously harmed tonight and they need to take that into consideration as a part of the investigation. when i hear vice presidential al candidate like jd vance come out and blame biden for this and sink biden has something to do with this in the sense of his or her rhetoric that is bull crab. we need to let to lower the volume what we need and i would ask his trump and biden get together they make a joint statement lowering the volume
9:34 pm
and the inthe situation we havef idiots out here that are willing to take the life of a president of the united states. >> pam bondi it would to bring you in on the conversation as well not as much in the legal form but you clearly know the former president very well. i want to play some video here. it does not have to be tell me if you don't have this week move on to something else want to play the video of the shots the way the secret service reacted and what happened there after when the president actually got up the former president got up and pumped his fist and said fight, fight. we play a little bit of we have it? [inaudible] that is the aftermath of you guys can find and flag me on this thing.
9:35 pm
but i want to ask you is the reaction that we saw today. we have talked about so much the reaction is coming so the former president who was literally just a shot in the ear. he was almost assassinated here's the point stop for one second let's just watch this as he gets up. [inaudible] [screaming] hold, hold, on you. move. go. hawkeyes here. get ready, get ready. are you ready? are we good shooters down for it shooter stanford shooters downward good to move.
9:36 pm
let's move, let's move. packed him up. >> let me get my shoes on. >> have got you sir, i've got you sir. excellent get my shoes hold this year heather's blood. okay the shooters down come on. >> watch out. [inaudible] we've got to move. we've got to move. usa. usa. u.s. a. usa. usa. usa. usa. >> it back to you now pam this
9:37 pm
is historical footage we will see again and again to you the question i have you can see the secret service they reacted promptly they are talking in their huddle sink ready to go, ready to go let's move as soon as they're ready to move the former president said let me get my shoes he stops raises his hand and pumped his fist and says fight fight the chance are usa, usa. are you surprised that any of this are you surprised at the reaction of the former president who had just been shot? >> not at all that is the man so many of us know so well and love. i feel like he is family to me. when i saw that, he said before the more they come after me the more i fight he wanted the country to know he was safe. he wanted them to know they did not beat him. those agents that surrounded him are amazing the lead agent to its right the female agent they have been with him for years they threw their bodies around him. not knowing if they could be shot. all they cared about was
9:38 pm
protecting him. i guarantee you, the head of the secret service when she has to testify it is going to come out they had requested more agents and did not get them. if you're a member of congress, the democrats in congress tried to strip him of his secret service or protection after he was indicted. that is the man that i know that is the man that loves this country and is a patriots. prayers worked he is safe tonight but i will tell you knowing him like i do i know he was a devastated when he learned so far a one person has died at his rally and two others are in critical condition. >> it is really a horrifying scene for america. said this before it is a horrifying day, a horrifying scene for america st standby i t to bring in kayleigh as we look at this, these videos here we talked about this he said fight, fight what is not been covered
9:39 pm
enough today is that really is a part of his campaign he goes to every rally and uses the fight phrase to say to the people in that rally listen i am fighting for you because they are coming after you i just happen to be in the way. so they're coming after me before they get to you. it encapsulates that entire fights, fight theme the president has been working for the better part of a year. >> absolutely this is changed everything. with respect to ted i recognize the need to lower the temperature of the rhetoric here. this did not occur in a vacuum but you do not get a call trump hitler for eight years in villa nizam misrepresent who he is and what he wants to do and expect there will not be consequences of course we do not know the motivation of the shooter. i agree we should not start laying blame or it is not due you have to understand this is part of the effort to demonize donald trump. i will just say i'm not a maga
9:40 pm
enthusiast i did not vote for him in 2069 pretty reluctantly voted for him in 2020 i did not support him among the gop primary this past year i now it would crawl over broken glass to vote for the guy. there are many other hesitant trump supporters have filled the exact same way after watching this and after watching the former president's response. we understand this cannot stand this cannot go on we cannot continue on as a country like this for the need to be consequences for the people who have helped to push us to this breaking point. electing trump sounds like a great place to start pretty quick so it to go around the horn really quickly if i can back to ted williams we can bring ted up again. does this change the posture going forward of the security apparatus at the republican national convention that begins in milwaukee tomorrow? do you think it changes anything to they have time to change it or do we get what we get?
9:41 pm
>> i am sure they will probably increase the amount of law enforcement present. it's already pretty much a baked in the way the security will be there in that convention. this may very well change what happens in the country as these two men run for the office of the presidency. >> ted thank you and back to pam now. the political and legal outcry of this. it appears to me as if the president is going to resonate morris people are saying people would walk over glass to vote for him is going to resonate more. do you think, pam he will utilize this or try to forget about this essay utilize this to emboldening him or does he try to put this behind him? >> is going to keep fighting. that is what he does predispose
9:42 pm
to save our country. he's going to go forward i think that convention i'm going to be there tomorrow morning is going to be on lock down as it showed. his family needs a secret service protection albert rfk needs secret service protection now and hopefully the head of the secret service will elicit one more thing legally the fbi should not leave lead this investment should be a joint task force atf needs and involves state police need to be involved as local agent secret service need to be involved the fbi are the ones who try to lock him up for their still trying to lock him up there the ones who rarated mar-a-lago i think they would agree they cannot lead this investigation. president trump is going to go forward because he has a vision for our country he is going to make that very clear at the convention this week. he is unstoppable i think prayers, god have proven that this week. >> pam, think i want to go back to kaylee mcghee white. you wonder about the current president, joe biden is going
9:43 pm
back to d.c. tonight. he was supposed to spend that weekend on the beach going back early. the word is he may speak to the nation again either very late tonight or early tomorrow morning appears more likely early tomorrow morning. what is it he plans to say? what is it that he can say at this point that is going to comb this country down? >> i hope he clearly denounces all political violence in unequivocal terms no stop. this is what i worry about moving forward pretty worried about the chilling effect this is going to have on the entire nation to think about my own friends and family members and some of my colleagues who were at the rally tonight who were pushed aside by secret service agents rushing to get to the president. this is going to create fear among trump supporters people who might been thinking about attending some of these events. that is what i worry about. the former president and his
9:44 pm
response when he got up and raised his fist in the air and wanted to communicate that he was okay. he was okay and they would be okay too. that is a remarkable example of strength to help americans mimic moving forward. >> kayleigh, pam, ted standby want to bring in alexis mcadams who has been covering this all day long. she was at the news conference and butler, pennsylvania with the state police and the fbi what did you take away from the news conference? >> what they just talked about a short time ago the fbi said yet to identify a motive behind the gunman here telling us, which i thought was a little significant when they walked out i asked again to the state police how long is a shooter up on that rooftop there? it is outside of the security perimeter but as you pointed out throughout the night it was not that far away is not that big of a building but gave him enough of a birds eye view to try to shoot and kill the former president and also injure at least two other people can kill someone else in the crowd before his gun down by the secret
9:45 pm
service for this is what they had to say in terms of if this was a big security failure, watch requests really at this point we are not going to make that assessment there is an active investigation. a lot of things need to incur investigative leads to make those determinations of what, if any failures there were. >> they are bringing in some intelligence analysts they are saying i'm reading it evidence response scenes from quantico. they are talking about how the grandstand and the area it was a huge it was a trump rally is in the middle of butler, pennsylvania work trump it's pretty popular people are excited to see them they waited for hours in the hot and i mean very hot sun and humidity of the swing say to try to catch up glimpse of him. it should have big of a footprint this was his head is going to be a pretty big crime scene at the comb through their asking people in the community to send in videos or pictures trying to see if they can look in that picture to catch

something a dr building that was outside of where this all went down but that is where the gunman was able to climb up onto that roof was not up there for very long we are told and fire off some shots. >> alexis mcadams very long day for your exceptional work as always back to us the news warrants alexis thank you note to erin: i'm wondering when you see this outdoor venue and it's a little less than four months until the election or outdoor venues for former president trump done from this point forward? quick i don't know if they are done they have to beef up that lettering the hot get more manpower in there. again i'm staring at this thing and saying to myself how is that building not covered what was the secret service advantage should be to not having a sterile building all of those buildings within the vicinity it does not make sense to me. obviously it's a manpower issue if i had to guess. secret services is one of the best protective law enforcement
9:47 pm
agencies in the world in terms of track record in terms of manpower they get better and better every year. a ton of >> ops dumped into secret service all these protective programs that offer now. i know how that these guys are up for me too look at this and see that ear get hit is mind blowing to me as i can't help but think it's an operational issue it has to be a manpower issue as far as events coming in the future maybe things will quiet down and the immediate needs can be expanded and contracted like a movie production. i would not be surprised if it expands quickly moving pretty specially the convention coming up productivity at your watch on the left inside of your screen it's a two and a half minutes two minutes and 28 seconds as many shots being fired until they get the former president into the vehicle to leave but we should note that breaking news report from abc former president trump has arrived at newark liberty international airport in new jersey about six hours after
9:48 pm
the shooting at his rally and butler, pennsylvania. meeting the president has been released from the hospital. he appears to be doing very well. he is a boarding a plane likely to go back to florida then will make his way, we are told, to the republican national convention in milwaukee. i want to bring in a witness. whose name is the ben schrader he was for may beat 4 meters 10, 12, 13 feet behind the person who is fatally shot. then, if you could give us an idea of what you heard and when you heard it. what is the reaction you saw around you? >> yes, thank you very much for having me. i was in the special guest section of the event had the pleasure to meet the former president moments before. i hear a pop, pop, pop and i
9:49 pm
turn around i see this individual i could really not see much i could see lower body and legs. and it was not what i have never seen someone who had been shot before. it was very rough to see a turni turned back the first thing i see is the president holding his fist up to the air i honestly did not think he had been shot. at the time he looked fine just as strong and happy as when i first saw him it was truly a shocking incident and horrific. books that we could not see it maybe give us insight on this. the fbi news conference with the state police what they are saying is after the rally was over we were so many bags and stuff left behind they had to treat all of them as if there might be explosives inside. what was the reaction as she looked out into this crowd as the bullets were fired and people realize what was going on.
9:50 pm
what was the reaction behind or in front of the former president at the crowd? >> the crowd was confused myself when i heard it i know what gunshots sound light. i ducked down right away a lot of people thought someone had snuck fireworks in and you have to take in account there's no cell service because everyone is on their phone. there's no actual information. people are getting a punchers to look good thinking okay, everything is fine and salih siy people sorta reload everything's not find president trump at his fist up and got everyone excited. it was confusion at first and myself my whole go was to extract from the location make myself the smallest target and get out i imagine many people do smart panic spread more knowledge of what actually happens spread throughout the
9:51 pm
crowd from the section i was in that people would abandon things is your life or a bag. >> very quickly i note also you are quite lucky as well you really 10 or 12 feet behind the person who was shot. did you know immediately what was happening? >> i did not. they were directly behind me. when i heard the pop, pop, pop i was singing something was very wrong some type of gunfire had gone off but it sounded very quiet it did not sound passionate part of me was afraid someone the crowded pulled out a handgun or something like that. but i turned around inside the individual i wish only the best of health achieve them in a great recovery to the president. but i had turned around then i
9:52 pm
knew something was very wrong. i yelled shooter i think a lot of people did not realize until they looked in her right away i have to say the response around the president was a phenomenal. they were on him in an instant. they surrounded him and moments after the person was shot a tactical man came with body armor, helmets, rifles came up into the stands and going around. only later when i find out the building a short distance away swarming with the tactical soldiers is where the actual sniper was. >> event schrader thank you for your time sir, thank you for coming i'll be appreciated. wondering pam beckoned very quickly former attorney general of florida. pam, i don't know if you're the breaking news were ci saint trup has arrived at newark airport a short time ago in new jersey about six hours after the shooting at his rally and butler, pennsylvania are you surprised he's going back to florida? do you anticipate he will take may be a day of our and our
9:53 pm
before he goes to the rnc? >> is trace you clearly have not met the man at. [laughter] absently not he is going to go nonstop. i know him i know the first thing he is going to want to do is reach out to those families of the injured and the deceased. i know he is devastated by that he's going to go nonstop. let me be clear the rnc will go on as planned when i say a lockdown security is going to be top-notch and out. the secret service will be given more help and i want director of the se secret service to answery that is not been given so far. i think the rnc is going to go i'm going to go tomorrow morning everyone i know is planning on going, they are still going is going to be a successful event because donald trump is unstoppable. we are all going to stand by him like he stood by the country. >> and to you does this change? does this change the program? does this change when he announces the vice presidential pick? does this to change anything
9:54 pm
going forward for this convention? >> i do not think it changes his plans. however i do think it is a white in the republican party umbrella even more. one of the effects of this is the social taboo of supporting trump is going to become nonexistent. i think of my own demographic young voters the only member of obama, trump, biden we have had a remarkable peaceful few years up until this point. now you're going to a larger swath of young voters become galvanized. i will say is a young butter myself, i am legitimately worried i could part of the last generation to see a strong and stable america. this is a terrifying moment for our country. i think that is going to be one of the consequences moving forward is that a lot of voters are going to start think about this in the long term sense it. >> it is a very proper assessment on that but we'll get back to see news warrants bro bring in retired nypd inspector
9:55 pm
fox news contributor paul, she listened to the news conference tonight by the fbi in the pennsylvania state police was there anything that stood out to you at all? did you grab that one piece and find it interesting question rick also i found the started off i was talking to erin about this by saying we do not believe there any other threats out there. and then they came back around and said we are looking for videotape we are looking for information we're looking for the identity so we can rule out if there are any other threats out there. >> so obviously those two things are internally inconsistent print there was something that jumped out at me actually do something the colonel said which was in trying to identify the perpetrator they had several complicated errors. which is aware that jumped out at me. apparently they ran into some sort of turbulence as they're trying to identify him reportedly he had no id on him. there are fingerprint analysis
9:56 pm
tools that could identify him right at the scene a portable little things that can work for you. apparently that did not work maybe he'd never been printed there when the dna route by the trying to match them to a family. the other thing you could do as facial recognition. we try trent facial at rec to see if that pops if you've ever had a drivers license that could work. i think what they're having trouble with here is some basic background inc. normally falls into place a lot more easily. that explains the delay and why we did not get a press conference for five or six hours appear as commenting they need to come talk to us because for all of we know this is part of a wider conspiracy. it looks like they have more questions and answers right now if indeed the name we are hearing is even accurate. >> again we are not going to name any names until the fbi comes and tells us who this person is. when you get this in name when the identity is confirmed what
9:57 pm
is the first thing you do? do you do a full and thorough vetting of his social media footprint? do we delve into the people he hangs out with? the groups he is associated with is this all part of the ongoing investigation? >> it is, of course of bringing the resources they have a task forces seem set up that is the approach you want to take care. have both federal and state crimes you have federally obviously the fact that he shot at a former president that put you in federal land but you also have the fact he has killed somebody who was there who is not an official and wounded others. that will be handled at the state level. the whole task force is going to go with this thing. one of the complicated is he's probably alluding to is if in fact they do have the correct id, you cannot just go charging into his home, his car, et cetera without being circumspect. guys like this set up
9:58 pm
booby-traps and things like that but we've seen that kind of thing and the pastor but we do not know if he has accomplices we do not know if there are the things going on that may be happening in other areas you've got to assume the worst and going very carefully. for the story that's already bad to get a lot worse. >> lastly paul, i'm wondering if that news conference we get maybe tomorrow morning they come out and give us more information about this. if you get the information and the identity is everybody fair game who is connected to him? is everybody going forward worthy of at least a look, and glance to find out where their ideology or their loyalties lie? >> 's going to be the legal system. you have to passed muster with a judge shoot something like search warrants you do things like i don't think the go that
9:59 pm
route. a criminal investigation will be the limiting principle to the casual relationship should not have anything to worry about i'm sure this is going to be done there's a lot of scrutiny on this. i am sure they're going to cross their tees and doctor eyes i would mention i'm glad representative comber he's going to stand up and investigation hereto. because conspiracies it flourished in a vacuum. the last thing we want is there to be outstanding questions we never quite get answers to we never quite get too. not to your audience anything new there is some distress these days. whatever side comes out on when each of the truth that is the key.
10:00 pm
>> are you calling for another lead investigation unit to be on this and take the fbi out of the picture? bring someone else in you to have the federal crime the fact correct former already in h sitn demand briefings. if he's not getting that we will know about it. i guess what i am saying is we do not need to reinvent the wheel i'm speaking on behalf of the good fbi agents i know, i hear myself we need transparency on this because without it, you will have conspiracy theories. >> always great to get your insight. thank you for coming on. as we get paul morrow and his insight, it is 1:00 a.m. on the east coast.
