prayers yesterday. as it was god alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening. we will fear not. but instead remain resilient in our faith and defiance in the face of wickedness. rachel: wickedness indeed a bullet pierced the top of his right ear and then ducked to the ground before standing back up one rally goer killed in the shooting two others critically hurt. >> fbi identifying suspect shooter as 20-year-old thomas matthew crooks of bethel park, pennsylvania took position on a rooftop 130 yards from the podium and then opened fire before being shot and killed by countersnipers from secret service. will: police officers gathering outside crooks home this morning after reportedly swarming residents last night. moments ago the secret service

spokesperson saying they added technology and part of the tempo to protect trump. pete: we're going to show you the full unedited version of the moment shots rang out. watch. >> take a look at what happened over -- [sound of gunfire] get down. [sound of gunfire] >> what are we doing? [screams] >> ready, on you. move. >> hawkeye here. are we ready?
5:03 am
>> are we good? shooters down. are we good to move? are we clear? >> let's move. >> pack up. let me get my shoes. let me get my shoes. >> got to move. let me get my shoes. >> get shoe. watch out. wait. got to move. [chanting usa]
5:04 am
>> that's looking at two minutes of american history. you're also looking at one of the powerful images that came out afterwards of photographer secret service covering him blood coming down the side of his cheek that's just moments that's a moment where if you were watching this, you didn't know whether he was dead or alive. and i was watching this in real time i looked up from my computer pop, pop, pop i looked up i didn't see him go down for the few seconds you were watching when you watch that live you're wondering is he
5:05 am
dead? is he -- and only he and those secret service agents at that moment had any sense. >> here's how close it was to the answer of that question being yes pete this photo shows a bullet literally cutting through the air. just moments before hitting president trump you can see there off to the right side of your screen. look what looks like a white stream through the blue sky there. that is a presumably ar round cutting through the air right before it makes impact with trump's head. pete: that's incredible or right after if you look at the trajectory and going so far accurate the shot would have been to the right stage left was the shooter. so that would have been the round that hit his ear. which shows you a grazing there -- that's absolutely incredible photograph is before he even had reacted to that feeling you saw that reaction shows you rachel how close a razor's edge of
5:06 am
god's protection of providence of maybe a whisp of wind or just turning of the head at the last moment is the difference between this show this morning an obituary. that's what happened. rachel: a lot of people saying that wisp of wind -- pete: god breathed. rachel: it is the holy spirit no president that's been photographed more than donald trump for people laying hands on him of protection all of us have thought about that, in fact, i remember when we did our interview you guys. in bedminster where the president is right now recovering and i asked the question, are you going to release the jfk files release the nfl files open those up and release and after i did that i thought -- man, there's a lot of people who don't those files opened. a lot of us thought this moment would come i think the reaction that you're seeing in that photo right now is of a man who was on
5:07 am
that stage he could be in the med on a golf course but right there willing to take a bullet knowing if you look at that face a man who knows that this could -- this could have come and it finally came. and he handled it with so much bravery and lawrence jones said from the phone call, the president was as -- as much as we're impressed with his courage resilience in that moment he's impressed with the crowd that didn't stampede that also stood their ground in the face of as he said in his social media post, so much wickedness. here is another piece of footage for you to look at. this is alarming as well. these are witnesses on the scene who saw the gun. they're saying he's got a gun. take a look at this incredible footage. [inaudible conversations] >> he's got a gun. [bleep] he's got a gun. >> on the roof.
5:08 am
[bleep] [bleep] [sound of gunfire] get down. stand here. he's on top of the roof. don't go over there. he's on the roof buddy. >> there's that video right there. i was saying i think it would be advantageous to put in black you can see as an iphone there confusing to see the blurs on the side that down the middle of the screen that's iphone video of someone saying or at least recording other people saying he's got a gun got a gun he's got a gun. and that's -- moments before shots rang out. and we have played video for you this morning from a bbc interview where a man said he was warning law enforcement two to three minutes i think pete you make that point time is hard to discern but warning law enforcement there's a man on that roof. with a gun -- pete: i don't know producers let me know if we have that sound from bbc as well.
5:09 am
because that's -- one of the biggest questions raising this morning. we're right first and foremost to first of all thank jesus christ lord almighty donald trump is safe and prayers and quickly move to how in the world -- did someone get that close with a high powered rifle and ability to scope in the president of the united states and get six to eight shots off and what this video is showing us what we understand because it was like will outside the perimeter which wasn't a wide perimeter if it was 130 yards elevated position and people noticed. question is how many people -- how early did they notice? how -- soon was law enforcement and then secret service notified of the fact that shooter up there. and then was there an opportunity to take a pre-emptive shot? did someone see it with the ability to shoot and have to make a decision or not? we don't know that but those are type of questions we have to ask. will: six to eight shots from the shooter and countersniper.
5:10 am
rachel: where did a trump supporter see before the secret service and there weren't a lot of buildings around this space so why wasn't secret service on every rooftop? in a space like that. aisle not an expert but i want answers to that question so do a lot of other people. pete: here's that sound from the bbc report of a eyewitness talking about what happened moments before the shooting. watch. >> he had a rifle. we can clearly see him with a rifle absolutely. we're pointing at him. the police are down there running around on the ground. we're like hey man, there's -- guy on the roof with a rifle. and the police are like what they didn't know what was going on. you know we're like here on the roof we can see him right here we see him he's crawling. and -- next thing you know i'm like i'm thinking to myself where is trump still speaking and why have they not pulled him off the stage and pointing at him two or
5:11 am
threenmies secret service looking at us from the top of the barn i'm pointing at that roof just standing here like this. and next thing you know, five shots rang out. >> two to three minutes he says where he said hey there's a sniper up on that roof. meanwhile secret service spokesperson says, it's there's an untrue assertion out there that the trump team requested additional security resources, anthony posting on x, there's none true assertion that requested additional security resources and those are rebuffed. this is absolutely false, in fact, we added protective resources and technology and capabilities part of the increased campaign travel tempo. rachel: we have to see if -- when the house and the senate bring in these witnesses, i know planning on bringing in director of the secret service and put everybody under oath see if that is indeed truth and bring in gop
5:12 am
congressman cory mills who used to oversee in the u.s. army and he joins us now. cory great to have somebody with your expertise on. i don't know anything about this kind of -- you know snipers and you certainly are the expert. i'm looking at that image that we just had on the camera of the various buildings. there's not a lot of buildings around. they're very low, relative to say an urban space. do you find it unusual that there isn't a secret service agent on every single building? considering that the building that the sniper was on wasn't actually that far away from where the president, the most likely to be assassinated human being on the planet earth right now is standing? >> well, keep in mind that i also used to do advanced work with the state department as well as for when i was with the agencies, and i've done everything from a advanced countersniper running team over in northern iraq when then
5:13 am
president biden met and condoleezza rice during operations with secretary of state as well as foreign dignitaries other diplomats i can tell you this in my opinion looking at it before the investigation is a massive security failure. this is a breach in security, because of one thing that we know is that when you're setting up in advance you're looking at every single area where a shooter could poor from. where they can take high ground as pete can tell you high ground is key par mount any type of tactical operation that allows you to have the overwatched necessary to look into the crowd. but the fact that this is adjacent directly to the stage let me bear in mind one quick note when you talk about average shooter we're not talking ab sniper but talking about an average shooter with ar-15 or n4 platform that weapon hold one minute of angle every 100 yards it does grouping at 100 inch, 202 inches i was told 230 yards
5:14 am
on this one, however, that's a 2.3 inch grouping capability with any single shooter that can have an understanding of a marx marksmen skill this is god placing protective hand i can tell you i've sat on ranges when we shoot from 300 from hallow tease you only amendment from here and here. which basically is lights out if or the individual that you're trying to mitigate now you're talking about the average human being is 20 inches shoulder to shoulder 40 inches head to waste. president trump is a very big guy. so you're talking about an individual where this is the matter of milliseconds to determine if it is attempt or assassination this is a security breach and failure but i will tell you i talked to eric trump last night. he's everyone told me i've seen this myself this countersniper team thesing are incredible they're brave, they're heroic
5:15 am
they do their jobs as does his team that vowngdz him and loyal individualing. female in this video was on eric trump's detail whenever president trump was in office said this is one of the most dedicated teams they've had so hats off to the great job by our secret service cs teams but a massive failure not to secure all of the available shooting platforms areas elevated tops, adjacent to the stage to get a shot on president trump. pete: even without a scope from that distance with my amount of training this is -- that's a big target not a difficult shot so -- glory to god that a miracle happened that he missed. >> only thing this was god putting a hand and pete that's the vapor trail that's what you see whenever you're in a high humidity day you have your shooter and your spotter spotter to ensure when you pull the trigger and come off target because of the recoil, that he's able to follow the vapor trail
5:16 am
to see whether or not you impacted target or to be able to make the necessary corrections for you to get on target so that's what you're witnessing when you're seeing that line that vapor trail off the round itself and i agree with pete this is after the graze itself. but this again i can't reiterate what a massive security failure at minimum and i keep hearing about this perimeter. the advanced team and your security aseis the perimeter levels it is not some preset has to be 100 or 300 or 500. it doesn't matter what the perimeter levels are if you have an area of threat if you have an area with high risk platform you put them on the rooftop or local police force to coordinate with that ceo to say we want to prevent access to your rooftop that's where i need to see a full investigation not just by the fbi. not just by other agencies but the house oversight and congress needs to look at this so we can give confidence to the american people that this is nothing more than a security breach and a
5:17 am
failure not attempt at an inside job. will: 20-year-old suspect, rooftop, all of the details somewhat sparse at this moment what do they tell you about the sophistication of the suspected shooter? >> clearly he wasn't sophisticated if he was a decent shooter we would be reporting this differently right now. i would tell you that 130 yards i've done this i'm sure pete has done this. i can look done through a scope close any eyes i'll hit my target at that distance it is that easy of a shot so this is by miracle this has by the design intervention and rachel is correct every time you see so many people placing hands on a him so many people who are praying over him. we know ephesians 6 with armor of god his response let me tell you trump was not fearful but pissed off someone tried to take
5:18 am
his life and standing his bullet for us as american people and we have to recall the fact when he stood up he did not stand in fear. he stood to chant fight, fight, fight -- because he's fighting for america. he's fighting for the republic every one of us sitting here right now talking about the incident. >> cory thank you. pete: getting information as we speak. what a great perspective. rachel: what an excellent guest sort of refuting so much what came out earlier in the show i trust cory mills than anybody else. pete: on google map this is image you want to put the image up quick it cuts off. there are -- i'm not making to kind of our previous guest north of that shooter location there are multiple other structures including a family sport center. which is i would estimate based on the map probably 500 meters away. which if you look at the video when you look at it a multistory
5:19 am
building. which could have been higher than that one. a shot from 500 meters is still an effective shot with a good shooter so it's i'm not making this for anybody in this case but not that one building as solo building but where a countersniper team could be covering with their scope for a suspected shooter. but when you look at that image right there. that's right next to the fairground. that would be the one you would want to cover the most because will to your point it is the closest more questions than answers right now. rachel: why isn't there somebody on that rooftop that's my question i think cory mills said he would have had that if he would been securing that perimeter has he's done professionally and livelihood out what he did. let's right now bring in another expert our own shannon bream from fox news sunday. and she joins us now. shannon what are you hearing in this dramatic history making
5:20 am
moment? shannon: a lot of things from capitol hill those demands to hear from the director of the secret service. i believe you know you guys have talked about chairman comer is hearing for her 22nd. josh hawley calling for that as well. people have a lot of questions they need to have answered. so while we saw bipartisan condemnation quickly swiftly that was excellent for us all to see last night from the hill and number of lawmakers but i think this next step is really important about getting answers to all of these questions and all of the things that cory mills and others have raised about exactly what happened and who was responsible for the decisions. there's been back and forth we heard reporting last night sources saying that trump campaign had asked for more protection. this morning there's been a full, you know, denial about that. we've heard from the chief of communications for the secret service, saying it is absolutely false that there was any resource that was requested that
5:21 am
was denied for president trump and said, in fact, they have ramped this up. for both candidates in june and moving forward, knowing that we're getting into crunch time for all of these rallies and for the campaign. so clearly there's some conflict there another place you're going to need answers. pete: you're at the rnc and kicks off in milwaukee this changes everything. what's your sense? shannon: you know already we've been here since thursday and there's supertight security with streets and streets and streets blocked off for, you know, a perimeter for blocks and mags everywhere that's going up another notch you get the sense and we've been told expect it to be heightened even more so try to get more information about exactly what that means you have thousands of delegates who will be out here on this, you know, platform casting their votes and being here for all of these speeches we're told by the time question get to weekend thursday night you'll have 20,000 or more people packed into the form
5:22 am
here. it will not be easy to get around you have to imagine people are going to be willing to put up with extra security because we understand it is going to go to another level although it was already to our eye to the amateur eye, you know, pretty high level. rachel: another level fox news sunday and light of what's just happened. i'm sure you've -- focusing on this tell us what we can expect tomorrow on your blockbuster show. shannon: so we are going to talk to the rnc chairman michael watley and to talk to him about how convention changes is there an emphasis on a dirchts message? you know seeing president will be electric for folks when he gets here and capitalize on this moment does he call for unity? is there a clang to the program? we have a excellent panel with us. we're going to have dave mccormick senate candidate at this event yesterday to give us a first hand event. you know he's a combat veteran himself. we've got a former secret
5:23 am
service agency jeff james to talk to us with the maps and everything else as well. will: thank you shannon. rachel: thanks shaun. cbs cotton live in butler, pennsylvania with new information on the suspect this morning including a raid at his home overnight. cb. reporter: hi good morning. will rachel, pete a we can update i want to mention i think it is very important two of the rally goers who were injured at last night, they remain at the hospital at a local hospital in critical condition. so our prayers continue for them at this hour. so we know the fbi is leading the investigation into the attempted assassination of our form or president donald trump. but any questions as to how this rally was secured in the agency says you'll have to direct those to the secret service. here's an fbi special agent last night, and several exchanges he had with a reporter. listen.
5:24 am
>> failure of security? >> really at this point we're not going to make that assessments. >> secret service checked buildings or keeping a close eye? >> have to differ to secret service to ask those questions. are you saying location where the shooter was located? >> i don't have any information on that after referred to secret service. >> during last night's press briefing fbi did say it was surprised at the number of rounds fired by the named shooter thomas matthew crooks. fbi added their initial assessment leaves them believe law enforcement did not know the shooter was on the roof. and told shots were fired. crooks 20 years old was shot and killed by secret service. the associated press reports political are not clear at this time but overnight we saw law enforcement searching his home and witnesses are now recounting
5:25 am
the terror they endured. >> a lot of people thought someone had snuck fireworks in and also you have to take into account no cell service because everyone was on their phones so it is all rumor in the crowd there's no actual information. complete chaos. >> you know, we all went to the ground. and we didn't know what was gong on. >> i was nervous that the shooter could possibly spray out into the crowd. because you know like the president he doesn't like us. >> we noticed crawling up the roof beside us. like hey man a guy on the roof with a rifle i'm thinking why is trump still speaking and not pulled him off the stage i'm pointing at him. for you know two, three minutes and next thing you know, five shots rang out. >> republicans speaker mike johnson says that house will conduct a full investigation into this tragedy. and house, house oversight
5:26 am
committee chairman james comer says he's requested the secret service director to appear at a hearing scheduled for july 22nd. back to you. >> thank you for your time appreciate it well getting more information about thomas matthew crooks still not a lot. apparently there are no criminal on traffic citations no bankruptcies or leans or on anybody's radar apparently he was a registered republican. but he only participated in one election 2022 because he's young. and will there's more, though, because it appears politics may have changed based on a donation. >> hard to know he graduatessed high school in 2022 and registered republican never participated in elections outside of something -- local local elections. when he was 17, though, made a $15 donation to act blue a political action committee. that raises money for left leaning democratic politicians
5:27 am
and donation was earmarked for progressive turnout project national group that rallies democrats to vote group did not immediately respond to reuters request for comment. 17 that would have been three years ago none of this tells us much especially if he wasn't, didn't have a criminal background may not have been on anybody's radar. rachel: more questions. as we ponder that let's move to ainsley and lawrence. who are ainsley in bedminster and lawrence is in butler, pennsylvania. let's start with you ainsley. what new have you come across right there i'm sure you're probably seeing are there -- supporters of donald trump lining up outside of bedminster any new information you're getting from the donald trump's team or his family? >> there are a few people here that love fox news and came out just to see what was going on. and i was talking to some of them they said because it is new jersey rachel you know new jersey well. you live here.
5:28 am
you don't get as much of that you definitely get that around trump tower from tourist i'm sure when we drive back through the city there will be flower arrangements all kinds of things outside of trump tower if they're allowed to get that close fifth avenue was open in front of trump tower when i was driving through the city to get out here this morning. but, we're hearing from people that have talked to donald trump this morning including lawrence jones that he's in good spirits he's doing well. i talked to people yesterday that talked to him when he got back to bedminster supposed to play golf with senator lindsey graham that is not happening this is a fortress here at the local library bedminster is five minutes down the road. but we went there and talked to secret service to try to get on to the property this morning. they said just they are not allowing anybody in. members not allowed in people who work there not allowed in as abundance of caution to make sure president is safe and gather information they need. but we are hearing he's doing well he was consoling other people and cracking jokes last
5:29 am
night, of course, concerned about the person who passed away posting love for that family and prayers for that family earlier today. and so he's, of course, thinking of them they're in the forefront of his mind and people that were injured behind him. we don't have much information on that and not released name of the deceased yet but that's definitely in everyone's mind because when we saw president trump, drop to the ground and then he pops back up and he's asking for his shoes gives fist in the air with blood coming across his face. you realize his resilience and strength and then he says we were all wondering are we goingt convention what's going happen next he says no convention is on and campaign and rnc sent out a statement i'll read in part president trump looks forward to joining you all in milwaukee as we proceed with our convention to nominate to serve as the 47th president of the united states as our party nominee trump will share his vision to make america great again so we're all -- after the morning show we're all
5:30 am
going to get on planes to head out to milwaukee and things will be as normal tomorrow but dongt pray for the president god needs to surround him with just a hedge of protection because we see how crazy this election has become. rachel: no question about it. will: donald trump posted on true social this morning, by the way, he said thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday as it was a god alone who prevented unthink frbl happening we will not fear but instead remain resilient and face of wickedness and hold them in our hearts. and the memory of this citizen it is important now more than ever that we stand united and show our true character as americans. remaining strong and determined and not allowing evil to win i love our country and love you all look forward to speaking to the great nation from wisconsin some of that you heard reflected right there from ainsley earhardt and we go to lawrence
5:31 am
jones site of last night's rally lawrence we've had you throughout the morning and love for you if you would set the scene. you've got cranes that hold the american flag behind you. i would assume somewhere in that view behind you lawrence in our cameras view is the building where -- the shooter posted up and took aim last night at donald trump. >> yeah brother good morning family, i'll step aside so you can see what i'm talking about here. you'll see a crime scene. this is unlocked right now they still are processing it. and the purpose is because they've got toirg to figure out what happened yesterday and able to attempt to assassinate former president if you look at the door open that is where the counter snipers were posted up if you look behind it about three lights behind where the shooter was posted on that building. now, a lot of times you don't
5:32 am
see them yesterday probably the rare time that you may have seen him as an audience you'll see the srg group part of the special response group but the secret service, those are the agents with long guns they're normally near, they were posted up in that barn as well. either they're under the stage behind stage, on the side of the stage that's where we saw them probably from one of the first signs in history as they responded to that shooting yesterday. honestly guys we lost one of our americans brothers yesterday. two people were critically injured yesterday. and everybody is trying to figure out what was the motive of the shooter as police process this scene and shooters house guys. will: lawrence thank you so much. rachel: thank you lawrence. will: more questions than answers and secret service rejecting speculation about how much the security detail was provided. rachel: the secret service spokesperson saying this is an untrue assertion trump team requested that trump team
5:33 am
requested additional security resources. the name of that spokesperson is anthony posting on x that, quote, there's an untrue assertion that a member of the former president's team requested additional security resources. and that those were rebuffed this is absolutely false, in fact, we added protective resources and technology capabilities as part of the increased campaign tempo we shall see. pete: in due time we will know. former police officers tom and paul murrow join us now. thank you both for being here paul let me go to you first. when you just saw lawrence in front of now a crime scene you saw the reaction of law enforcement -- talk to us a little bit about the coordination between local law enforcement and secret service. because presumably, it would have been more local law enforcement or different types of agents that were outside the perimeter that would have been coordinating they saw something like a shooter. what do you take away from this?
5:34 am
>> understand that the secret service runs the event at a level like this with a former president. what she would have done is come out and do a site survey that's paramount understanding because that's where it looks to me like there was one of the initial points of failure here because site survey supposed to take into account things like line of sight, areas of vulnerability for a long gun, et cetera. if it was not picked up, that that rooftop was something that could potentially be a vulnerability you're starting already with a problem. and if you need more resources as disservice because you can't cover all of the locations that are potential points of vulnerability, you have to ring the bell. and that's where i think we may see a focus of investigation because clearly the site survey done more than once you can have several done especially at this level coming into the convention, a very well known and somebody who inspirings a
5:35 am
lot of we should have been hearing already from the secret service she's coming into what has got to be one of the red letter weeks of the job which is republican national convention and really two presidential candidates here. you would have to think that's where she's on point we haven't heard from her. we don't know where she is she's out of town. i have questions as you can hear i think right there, there should have been some assessment of, you know, what we have to call state police we have to get more locals in here because there's a lot of ways this could go bad and it just doesn't seem like it is done. >> as a quick follow-up paul no one wants to -- the quarterback sniper teams on the roof and i think you're honing in on the right moment which is before the moment. before the rally, this being identified as a vulnerability. and then you would have assumed paul, right, that if it is a
5:36 am
vulnerability well maybe we should monitor who is going in and out of the building that day i asked pete to look at the building i think it was a warehouse of some kind but if there's a man with a rifle scaling outside or an internal staircase you don't have to have metal detecters but some eyes would have been part that have advance work. >> absolutely. we have done these in very difficult circumstances in the city. in and around times square et cetera where you have thousands, thousands of windows, looking down at the principle. and i've got to tell you it's a big military operation. you know you have to shut that building down you have to know who is going in, out, you have to also in a place that's open as this you would have thrown up a couple of drones. one person sitting at a computer gets to monitor the entire thing from overhead. so i just feel like the initial point of failure was the site assessment always done multiple times, in fact, and if at that point you feel like we don't have courage that's when you have to ring the bell but
5:37 am
there's no denying response of the service on the ground they threw themselves in front of the principle. it is no secret that the secret service detail donald trump is devoted to him and they acted admirably not called into question as usual. troops on the ground, are more than willing to step up to do the job you have to look over their heads to see where the calls were made. rachel: got so many questions entering my mind we interviewed ex-secret service person earlier in the show you bring up a good point i brought it up earlier if you don't have good resources you can use a drone capture a guy scaling a wall and laying on top of a building that was close to the president i would go to you tom. paul mentioned that the secret service director kimberly cheatle has not shown her face i think at this point in the day it is cowardly she sent out her
5:38 am
press secretary she also went on television not too long ago on cbs to say that her mission was to make the secret service 30% female. i'm wondering and i don't question that all of the secret service are doing their best. but doesn't that make you wonder if we're getting the best? that that should be the main goal of the secret service? >> 100.when i was i.c.e. director i was getting beat up about level of diversity when it comes to protection of the president they need to hire the best a female, male regardless, the best of the best for the president and i agree -- i agree with everything paul said but i want to bring a different perspective to this. i've been on that stage quite a few times i've been behind that podium and calmed up toed podium to speak with the president there's a lot going on on the stage. i want people to remember what the men and women and secret service did.
5:39 am
no one is on the stage of them there's stair ways coming up so you have agencies of stair way with agents in front of the stage these men and women upon hearing shot got there two seconds up to the stage across that big stage, and covered the president. these are heros these are the best of the best. and i salute them. then i'm hearing thing on the internet with the secret service screwed up should have got on stage quicker like i discussed you have to understand, that everyone of the secret service agents has an ear piece and first of all we don't know what happened when you have get half a dozen grown men jumping on you. he got the wind knocking out and make sure she's ready to move and hearing with commander have they scanned the area and any other shooters don't get him up until we are clear on any other shooters was escape vehicle in place so a lot of -- stuff going on so i don't blame the secret service a bit about the men and women on the ground who saved the president's life
5:40 am
and let's talk about the president. when the shots were heard he did exactly as he was trained. and got down behind that podium he's trained there's security precautions that will protect him and i'll say this when they did get him up you see him moving a secret service agent aside to let them know he's okay and continue to fight. this proves once again for this network he's a warrior. he's a man's man. he is not a coward he's a brave person that wants to come back and make this country great, he wants -- and he loves law enforcement. and for him to stand up after that issue -- and put himself in harm's way which probably wasn't best safety move he made. but he wanted american people to know he's good. he's going to continue to fight that man is -- it just a warrior and people need to understand that i think last night proved it. will: a great point what you do in that moment you can talk
5:41 am
about what you might do but when the moment happens how you respond says a lot about you and we learned yet again how defiant strong donald trump is. paul mauro thank you both appreciate it. >> we move on to a fox news a letter joe biden speaking with trump by phone after yesterday's assassination attempt and also had this to say. >> look, there's no place in america for this kind of violence it is sick. it's sick. it is one of the reasons we have to unite this country. >> do you think there was assassination attempt? >> i don't know enough to -- i have an opinion but i don't have any facts so i want to make sure we have facts before i make anymore comments. thank you. >> meanwhile reactions are pouring in from washington, d.c. with republican lawmakers calling for an investigation. >> senior congressional chad

pilgrim joins nows. >> spoke to alejandro mayorkas this morning and pointed security failures and mountains of questions. >> look, to allow a sniper within 130 yards from an elevated position, and you don't have that position secured, that's inexcusable. >> house oversight committee chairman james comer and other leaders were briefed last night comer says, quote, i'm also calling on secret service director kimberly cheatle to appear for a hearing he wants the hearing soon. separately comer wants to talk with secret service in next three days. political violence is increasingly common former representative gabby giffords was shot in 2011. and house majority leader steve scalise survived a shooting at congressional baseball practice in 2017. >> law enforcement is the first to go run towards the danger.

they did it today. they did it on the ball field that's one of the things that keeps more people safe. when evil people show up to do things like this there's no place for it and there's no place for violence in our politics in america. we can never accept it. >> a number of lawmakers attended rally that includes gop president representative mike kelly and dan and u.s. capitol police chief tom manger told me he's worried about political volatility and protecting politicians. >> i don't think any member of public would say that things aren't worse in terms of the political violence that the political volatility that our country is experiencing today. that it is not worse today than it was ten, 20 years ago. >> now capitol police hold a virtual security briefing at 3 p.m. eastern today with a dplct caucus call tomorrow at 2.
5:44 am
lawmakers have questions about how someone could climb on to the roof near the rally. guys back to you. >> thank you chad. >> that is the question of the hour. thank you, chad. pete: former presidential candidate tim scott joins us now. you know, senator we knew we were going to talk to you yesterday we -- certainly had no idea that conversation would move in this direction. we were talking about you on a short list of vp that -- in light of what happened yesterday that's a pretty darn important position considering when they just tried to do to donald trump. but first of all your reaction as you're seeing this as everyone in america is. >> you know, i've got to tell you yesterday morning i was in a prayer session for couple of hours with my prayer partner one of the things we were doing was praying for trump. millions of americans yesterday morning were praying for president trump i isaiah says no weapon formed against you shall prosper and without any question watching the bullet missed by
5:45 am
less than an inch was an answer to prayers of millions of americans who understand that only donald trump is willing to stand in the fire for the american people. i'll turn to the most obvious thing, the media, the national media has been obsessed with getting rid of president trump i said on thursday that the character assassination of trump has been pathetic disgusting and the violence is a natural outcome of the national media continuing to say that donald trump is an existential threat to american democracy. but we must also stop and pray for the families who lost a loved one yesterday murdered at donald trump's rally. and the other two critically injured but let's never miss a point that when the -- when the left media, the liberal media, the democrat party continues to have violence with
5:46 am
obsession against donald trump, we cannot be surprised. when people take that serious and say we must eliminate that threat. that kind of behavior not only is it disgusting it looks like mexico where dozens of politicians were killed up towards an election. we are the united states of america. we must be strong and firm and like donald trump rising like a phoenix yesterday. defiant, courageous, and focused. he will not be stopped. and that's great news for america's future. rachel: such great words spot on i'm glad you brought up the kind of political violence that sort of par for the course in latin america you're right in mexico, ahead of the election several dozen politicians were killed. and june, we've been hearing tim so much about, you know, our country is turning into a thirds world country well that's what we saw last night. if it wasn't for the courage of
5:47 am
donald trump but also of those in the crowd. this is gong move into an investigation senator, and a lot of people don't have confidence in the fbi. who will be running this investigation this is the fbi as you know, that raided mar-a-lago that has, you know, focused and become obsessed with j6ers produced them. you have everything else they have done can't find pipe bomber from january 6th how can we trust that this investigation by the fbi which so many people think is compromised is actually going to come up with the truth? because this is imperative to our democracy. rming there's no doubt speaker johnson said it very well there must be a thorough vetting of what happened and more importantly to your pongt the facts are simply this when the department of justice start labeling parents coming to a school board meeting as domestic
5:48 am
terrorist what do you think the people will say around the liberal doctrine is to eliminate the threat of conservatism? it is no longer a partisan debate, that's why we have to have a strong complete and thorough investigation. but the only way in my opinion and i mean this sincerely to purge department of justice of the challenges, inconsistent cities that we've seen over the last couple of years is reelect donald trump. we have to have someone in charge when president trump was in office he did not use a doj to go after hillary clinton he did the right thing and focused on american people. this doj has been so politicized so weaponized that they've made the primary target of their objectives conservatives, and at the top of that chain is donald trump. so we have to purge them by firing -- >> to win he has to stay alive. which is serious moment right
5:49 am
now. >> i do not have a confidence this department of justice will do the right thing. period. as a full stop. i can't say it any clearer than that that is why we must focus on doing everything in our power to make sure that the next several months that president trump is able to be on the campaign trail, he rose yesterday. he was not going to be silenced he didn't stay down. he didn't just rise up. he had his fist in the air and focus in his eyes. there was fire -- he was ticked off. because he understands that i said this before. if you can do it to the former president of the united states, what about the rest of us they want us cowering in corners i'll be darned if we're going to do so we're going take our lives and have a normal sunday praise god and then get ready for monday because convention starts. we patriots must do our jobs by being present.
5:50 am
this country is at a fork in the road. and we will choose right. will: senator pete mentioned it you are mentioned you're on the short list for vice president. that has renewed importance today whoever donald trump picks as his vice president obviously with this type of threat to his life, the vice presidency has a potentiality of being someone to step right into the president, in fact, harris faulkner had a sit down yesterday with donald trump just before this incident. and he brought up the importance for that very reason of the vice presidency. watch. >> they say oh it depends on what's going to happen who you're going pick i don't think so. you're going pick a great person you're going run. other thing i've noticed if you look -- i don't to belittle it but if something bad should happen but that's important if something bad should happen. will: you think events of the
5:51 am
last 12 hours have changed the last 46 hours have changed in any way donald trump calculation on who will run with him as vice president? >> i don't think so. president trump has said the same thing over and over again he wants someone ready to be president on day one. and whoever that person is, person who has honor to serve as his number two what they're going to do is carry out president trump's mission. he already has his priorities set for the american people he understands that stopping and eliminating a 10 million person illegal invasion is job one and he knows that fixing economy, that joe biden has devastated for the working class people is job number two. he understands that making sure that law and order is restored that we no longer talked about defunding police we saw refunding local police. he understands that is the objective. president trump whoever he chooses will have a vice president who will carry out his
5:52 am
mission with him. for four consecutive years because i believe donald trump will not only win. but he'll serve the entire time. but having someone prepared to continue his mission is absolutely essential and it is what he said every single time he's been asked that question. pete: senator you started by scripture what's your reflection no morning? >> you know, i think we as a nation must be very prepared to stay on our knees before the lord. i believe that we are a country founded on judeo-christian principles those principles teach us to be respective to be responsible but always stand in the fire proverbs 38 says we should stand up for those who can't stand for themselves. that is why i'm a proud supporter of donald trump. he consistently rises to the moment. his personal life in jeopardy,
5:53 am
he still stands. because there's something more important than the individual it is the call of god to do what you're called to do in spite of the consequences. god bless donald trump. and god please continue to bless the united states of america. >> senator tim scott, thank you so much if your time this morning. cialg thank you, senator. >> right now former president trump is recovering in new jersey after released from the hospital last night. pete: marc siegel joins us now. doctor, you know what are you thinking about the physical side there's the psychological side, emotional side a lot of aspects when in a moment's notice someone tried to take your life and then you're pummeled by secret service rushed off and the world is reacting. give us your assessment. >> you know, pete for i start with a spiritual side this is a purely act of god here. and you know, in deuteronomy it says do not be afraid show
5:54 am
courage and strength and the president showed that. in spades last night, i want to tell you medically the chances of him surviving that is about as close to zero i don't mean ear lobe but a idea that gun shot would not enter the brain is about zero. it is an absolute act of god that that happened. but let me tell you if it had entered his brain chances of death are about 95 to 100% and of -- full recovery zero percent so the fact that he happened to turn his at that exact moment that's number one and mental acuity did you see how he went to the ground nobody pushed him to the ground he saw the shot he ungdz quickly and went to the ground that was like someone in combat might do pete as you know, and then he rose up and he -- put out his fists to show the american people courage and leadership. and anti-fear message which we
5:55 am
have been needing so badly and that's why the crowd also went along with that as been on the show this morning very courageous in the emergency room you know again a superficial ear wound took care of that and went home to will's point important pongt he showed physical strength and almost anybody could stay overnight in a hospital at that point with a very good miranda emergency roon butler but he went home to new jersey and i'm hearing from sources from the president that he's in great spirits this morning. and one more thing as -- as you all mentioned before rachel mentioned before, he's showing concern for those around him he wants to make sure his kids are oak and make sure that america is okay. that kind of outward thinking is extremely healthy and shows bodes well for recovery, courage, caring, humor, good
5:56 am
spirits. he's not going to have post-traumatic stress from this. rachel: that's really interesting interesting assessment that definitely line up dr. siegel with what lawrence jones said he was on the phone with the president this morning and said he just couldn't believe -- how his spirits were up just -- the feelings that he was expressing especially for the crowd that he credited them with also having courage and not having a stampede that they also stood strong request him. >> yeah. i agree with that. again i like that he was worry about people around him. that he complied completely with secret service. went right with everything extremely impressive and again, courage is the number one thing. it is either fear or courage guys. either fear or courage. same center in the brain he chose courage. >> he showed courage. thank you for joining us doctor we'll be back in just a moment.
5:57 am
