6:01 am
fox news aall right, new reaction from former president trump on the attempted assassination on his life. this happened during a rally last night in pennsylvania. writes on truth social, quote, thank you to everyone for thoughts and prayers everyone yesterday as it was god alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening. we remain resilient in our faith and defy ant. rachel: trump said a bullet hit his right here before ducking down and standing back up moments later. one rally goer was ki the -- was killed in the shooting. two others remain in critical condition. >> the suspected shooter was identified as thomas matthew crooks of bethel parks, pennsylvania. crooks took position on a roof 130 yards from the podium and opened fire before being shot and killed. >> police officers are
6:02 am
gathering outside the suspect's home this morning after reportedly swarming the residence last night. this morning, house speaker mike johnson speaking with dhs secretary mayorkas about security failures as the secret service is saying they have added protective resources, capability and technology as part of increased campaign travel to protect trump. rachel: we're now going to show you the full unedited version of the moment shots rang out, watch. >> take a look at what happened. >> get down, get down, get down. [screaming] >> what are we doing? what are we doing? [screaming] >> hold, hold. on the ready. on you. move!
6:03 am
move. go. >> clear. >> get ready. >> we're good. down. >> we're clear. >> let's move, let's move. >> we're clear. >> come on. >> let me get my shoes. >> i got you, sir. i got you. >> let me get my shoes. >> hold on. >> sir, we've got to move. >> let me get my shoes. >> watch out. >> wait, wait.
6:04 am
usa! usa! usa! usa! usa! usa! usa! usa! usa! usa! usa! usa! >> that's history on tape. so is that photo. and if you were watching live or watching it back, that is the moment donald trump's on the ground, he's just dropped to the ground. the secret service is jumping over him, photog got a photo, caught the blood on the cheek. this sticks with you. if you were watching that, you
6:05 am
didn't know whether he was dead or alive. when i looked up after the pop, pop, pop, he was down. and at that moment i thought they just killed the president of the united states. that is what i thought and so at that moment he's the only one and thank god it missed. rachel: there's another amazing picture in this photo, you can see the bullet whizzing past trump's head where it then grazes his ear. i mean, it's just a remarkable photo. and a sign of what so many believe is true about donald trump, that he is under a special protection because of the millions of people who have been praying for him and praying to jesus, praying to angels, praying to the holy spirit to put a shield around him. we had dr. siegel on earlier and he said this is almost a 99% impossibility that bullet did not enter into his head, for a millimeter of him turning his head, we would be sitting on the couch talking about an
6:06 am
assassinated former president. it's really miraculous. >> we have new video as well, there has been conversation throughout the morning as to who knew what, when, why wasn't this advance scouted, was it a mistake a man was able to climb upon to a roof within 130 yards of the former president of the united states and this video shows that trump rally goers, witnesses, just moments before this entire incident took place were screaming out, he's got a gun. watch. >> he's got a gun! he's got a gun! bleep. [bleep]>> he's got a gun. >> stay down. stay down. >> he's on top of the roof. don't go over there. he's on the roof o, buddy. rachel: remarkable. trump supporters seeing the shooter before the secret service. right now, more questions than
6:07 am
answered. the trump team saying last night they requested more secret service protection but were rejected. >> this had morning the secret service he denies that, saying, quote, in is an untrue you assertion trump team requested additional security sources that those were rebuffed they say it's abso abs absolutely false,t we added increases. >> the trump team often comes out on top. our next guest knows what it takes to keep a president safe, our friend, dan bongino was secret service agent for george w. bush and barack obama. we have to have dan on tomorrow, you're the perfect person to speak to this, take it away. >> it's good to see you guys again. let's just be put out up front, an uneventful failure as you know from military experience is not a success.
6:08 am
i say that because the secret service spokesman seeming to take some kind of like a victory lap here that they added resources is quite bizarre. i can tell you, i can confirm or your airways, absolutely on my honor and integrity that what he is saying from a macro picture, maybe from a micro picture, pete, in other words about that specific site, maybe he'ses he'n holing the truth but the macro picture about multiple requests for a larger security footprint due to enhanced threat level that is absolutely categorically false. i would never say this on your airwaves, on my show or anywhere else. i know it from people directly involved. i could give you direct quotes from the failed secret service director, kim cheatle herself, when asked about mar-a-lago security being enhanced, i could tell you direct quote where with
6:09 am
she not only rebuffed it but mocked it saying things like i he don't secure nightclubs. this happened. they better be very careful about what they say in coming days because there are people out there who know, i know they know because they told me, they know absolutely that -- so this is how -- rachel: come on. let's get him back. >> we are going to work to get him plugged back in and get dan bon bongino back. i want to hear the second part of that sentence. rachel: there's nobody better to tell us what he saw yesterday than dan bongino. if i was the wife of the president, there is nobody i would want securing my president more than dan bongino. >> he's right to point out the macro, micro, we always play that game. but we've heard even publicly points where the trump folks
6:10 am
have been denied or laughed at, mocked at, ridiculed, saying we don't need that. as you point out, he's the most threatened person in the world. rachel: in the world. there's nobody more likely to be assassinated. representative benny thompson tried to pass an act or bill or whatever to get rid of security of secret service for donald trump on the fact that he was a convicted felon. they said now he should have his secret service removed even though he is the most likely to be assassinated human being in the world. >> well, dan bongino's shot froze. we'll work to get that up in a moment. i think we'll have him back in a moment. alalexis mcadams was in the crod last night and she's with us this morning. >> reporter: you were talking
6:11 am
about the layout of where this went down and where the former president was standing on the stage. i'm going to stand out of the way a little bit here. we have cars coming through. you can see the agr building is back there. so that's the area that we've been talking about. that's where this gu gunman, wi, was up on the roof. it's two football fields or less away from where the former president was speaking. when the motorcade came in, it came down the back road where we're positioned right now so he had some time, this gunman, you according to sources out here, to position himself and a get out there. i talked to pennsylvania state police and kept asking how long was he up there, how many weapons did he have. they said he wasp up there for a short time before he was taken out by secret service. we were pretty close to where the president was speaking in the media area. you could hear loud pops that people thought were fireworks. then they took cover. so did the former president behind the podium. he went down and shortly comingy
6:12 am
coming up after with blood on the ears and people were screaming and a lot of chaos. people are trying to figure this out. we want to look at exactly what played out. watch. >> we heard something that sounded like a fire cracker. we turned around and there was people behind us and there was two more guys shooting back. >> once you got the shooter, you see him on top of the building as we watched them shoot back. >> yelling hit the ground, hit the ground. i saw the smoke from the gunfire. >> reporter: so police tell us three men in the crowd were shot, one of those men was killed. witnesseses say that man's family was screaming for help after he was gunned down there. that video that we're going to pull up shows the gunman on a nearby roof top that we're talking about, the fbi identified the shooter as thomas matthew crooks of bethel park, pennsylvania, a 45 minute drive from the rally.
6:13 am
the 20-year-old was a registered republican according to state voting records which we're finding out this morning. going back to the layout, this is one of the biggest crime scenes the state police who also had a helicopter up to get an ariel to figure out. the u.s. secret service counter sniper took him out. they haven't said what the motive is. >> the secret service needs to answer that question. they conduct the initial site survey. they do the initial security assessment and determine where the different security locations should be. and they're the ones who are in charge of securing the scene. we along with other state and local assets are there to support the secret service and their mission. >> reporter: yes, securing the scene, but this was outside of that perimeter so when we went through, your bags get checked, thousands of people waiting out there in the heat and humidity
6:14 am
to try to get into that rally. their bags were checked, people can't bring in certain items. this guy wasn't in the perimeter, he was outside. that's something they're looking into and exactly how he was able to park over here, kind of where we are near the gas station, possibly just walk right over. this morning as you mentioned before trump saying it was god aalone that prevented the unthinkable from happening, thanking america for their prayers and praying for the man who lost his life and another two are at a local hospital fighting for their lives. >.>> you're saying the shooter parked where you are right now and is that the building behind you that he would have walked across the street, gained access to, not much security in that area. you talked to investigators. i can think of no one more than you whos was actually in the situation that you were last night, talking to everyone. i mean, i would love a little bit more of the sense of the moment, confusion? you spoke to so many people last
6:15 am
night. >> reporter: i think people were very confused. you know, i think some people knew right away that it was gunshots, other people thought like i mentioned that it was possibly fireworks. people were laughing, kidding around. it was a trump rally. he was talking about going back to the white house and to watch everybody hit the ground and kind of go with their families and make sure families were okay, people were kind of like trying to run out together and there's only one way in, one way out of there, when we were trying to get in yesterday. there's one long road to get into the farming area. the agr building, american glass research building, a local business, it's only two stories that you can see here as well. i'm going to have my photographer zoom in so you can see it. but that's it. you can see agr on it. that's where the gunman was positioned so we saw there were secret service snipers around in that perimeter. i was watching, looking around, while trump was on stage before this happened. you can see two of them positioned up there but nothing,
6:16 am
nobody thought anything about security issues until all of a sudden you heard all of those pops and then you saw the secret service agents firing. so a lot of people are still really nervous about that. but in terms of where he entered or got in, they haven't officially said just yet. it's still developing. last night we went to a street kind of where i am right now, it's pretty small area out here, just a few blocks down right near where this went down and the police were looking at a suspicious vehicle. so i talked to local authorities, they were possibly going to be towing a van that had no plates on the front of it and they were looking into the windows, neighbors had come out and said there were police for hours on the street so it's possible that the suspect could have parked nearby and walked in on foot. exactly how many weapons or how he got in we're not sure just yet. >> alexis, thank you, or how he would have known that was a spot that wasn't covered. or did know. something to think about. thank you. trump supporters that were yelling he's got a gun, probably
6:17 am
rushed the shot. think be about it. >> you heard one of them say don't go over there. >> he probably rushed the shot which may have saved the president's life. it may be that trump supporters ided him, him, flutering the sh. rachel: the fact there was no stampede is incredible. >> let's bri bring dan bongio back in. continue where we left off. >> open security questions right now and this is why, again, i think the secret service, the pr, anthony gugliami has to be careful about what they put out. he says in the x post, you can read it yourself, you that they deployed the extra resources and technology. okay. well, which ones? you're telling me the best technology you have was he deployed and you missed a shooter 130 yards, say it was 200 yards, the secret service cs
6:18 am
team, the counter sniper team, i'm not sure those two guys are secret service. we don't always -- when we go to new york sometimes with high level protectees we use nypd counter snipers. they would still be briefed in. the if that's the best technology we have, and we had a cs team up there with a shooter that we're trained out to 1,000 yards in the secret service with the counter sniper team, how did they miss someone at most one fifth of the way there? it doesn't make any sense. and even worse, it's broad daylight on a white roof. so again, open questions here. was there forward looking infrared deployed? was there aerial support, drone, helicopters, something happened -- if you go back and listen to the audio, i want you to listen to this after i get off a here. when donald trump after this tragic thing happens you'll see the secret service agent saying -- i know some of those guys personally. it takes a lot to run into
6:19 am
bullets, divorcing the security failure. at least they did that part correctly and knew what they were doing after the security absolutely failed. but you're going to hear something if you listen closely. the guy mentions hawkeye on the scene. he's talking about the two black bdu with tactical gear cat element, the two man cat element, stands for counter assault team, the secret service special weapons team, equivalent to our s.w.a.t. they were deployed and did what had to be done after the security failed but having said that, there was no reason for them to have to do that. there's only one entity out there that saved donald trump's life yesterday and it pains me to tell you this, you know who that is? it's donald trump. if he moves his head an inch to the left or right, guys, this is a really different show today. i mean, this is -- it's bad enough we have to do this show about this topic. can you imagine what would have happened if donald trump did not duck. looking at the stage there, i'm
6:20 am
speculating but i'm pretty sure based experience that the bunting around the front of the stage is probably armor. donald trump knew to duck. most people would he saved his own life. that's jus just a fact. the evacuation did not go right. the role of the secret service is cover and it's maximum to the protecty and minimum to the problem. you don't know that's the only problem. it could be a distraction. there could be another person in the crowd. if the you don't jump on the protectee, you could be looking at multiple shooters. the guys stepped up there. but the failure here is absolutely catastrophic and i've got to tell you, the secret service should be very careful. i can tell you and absolutely confirm from the horse's mouth, from multiple people, not just one, and i saw congresswoman waltz text this out before on x, there have been repeated requests to increase the
6:21 am
security footprint around not just the residences of donald trump but the body itself and they have been rebuffed. i can tell you actual quotes. the secret service director's completely failed and candidly should resign today. kim chad cheatle has failed dond trump and has failed joe biden too. where's the dhs secretary? you're blaming it on man dis'po. we're a $4 trillion united states government and we can't fork over enough money to keep our people alive and you're sending out tweets, this is the best technology we have. really. to let a sniper shoot a piece of his ear off? that's the victory lap? give me a break. rachel: you bring up so many amacing points. i don't know where to begin. except ask why would the secret service not beef up more
6:22 am
security for the man who is most likely to be assassinated in the entire world? why weren't there drou drones, t that kimberley cheatle is incompetent. is it dei? what's going on. >> it's my job if i'm going to give an opinion to back it up. opinions are like holes, everybody has one. the difference between one opinion over the other in a courtroom and anywhere else is can you back it up. i want everyone at home, go to your phone or computer now i want you to look u.s. secret service red ties, donald trump. the secret service was more concerned about protective agents around donald trump, if you think i'm making this up, go to -- go to a left wing search engine, go to scroogle, they were more concerned about the color of the secret service agent ties around donald trump given the perception that a red tie was some -- i'm got red
6:23 am
ties, i'm a republican p. it's nothing to do with it. red ties go nice with white shirts. that's an actual -- you see it right now. i'm not crazy. this is what the secret service was concerned about. they put out 1,000 tweets about all of this dei stuff. do i know that's related? i don't. i'm saying like there were -- you have one job. and only one job. your job is keep the body alive no matter what. donald trump, joe biden, jill biden, the president of dijabudi, it doesn't matter. that is your job. absolutely, resolutely, 100% failed. not a single excuse should be made. not a single excuse should be attempted. this should be the subject of congressional hearings and investigations because if they can't do this, and this is the best technology you have, then folks, there's no purpose anymore. this isn't the agency i grew up in. it's not. i spent 12 years of my life there and i'm telling you, i
6:24 am
know some of those guys personally. these are good men and women. but this was an a apocolytic failure. the fact that donald trump didn't die is no reason for anybody to take a victory lap. we better look into a hot wash on this and find out exactly how abysmal the security plan was. >> you also have unique experience, you've been able to tell us the failure is on the ground level and media reaction, the advanced level, seeing what could be the problem and at the organizational level in what kind of resources were given to donald trump over time. and as we said, you have the experience to know. dan bongino, thank you for being with us. >> you're a great american, dan. >> thank you. rachel: best guest we could have today. >> let's bring in ainsley earhart and lawrence jones in butler pennsylvania. lawrence, you're joined by
6:25 am
witnesses to the assassination attempt yesterday on donald trump. >> reporter: that's right, brother, two people that were literally right behind the former president. let's get you all in to react to what's going on. you slept in your car last night. you have exactly what you were wearing to the rally last night. what your reaction to that moment? >> absolutely surreal, like something crazy, it just was nuts like how it all happened, i think because i had been like 14 hours with no sleep, maybe a little bit of shock yet, maybe it hasn't all hit me but even when it was going down, i was looking around, taking everything in. i always go to the rallies and look at what's going on optics wise. i watch the secret service guys and that. so this was like no other rally everybody was dropping to the ground and i kind of kept looking around, taking it all in, seeing what was going on, watched the secret service guys
6:26 am
jump on trump and protect him and do what they're supposed to do and then the guys come out with the rifles and that, heard all of that going down. like i could hear it in real-time, everything that was going on around and everything that they were saying over the mics and speakers talking to one another, sharp shooter down, everything. you heard it all. it was surreal. had four young girls next to me, they dropped, were crying and shaking. people standing next to me, one guy stood and we were talking the whole thing and next thing i knew i looked at him and he was underneath the bleachers, i'm sitting there. i think maybe shock. drove there like 14 hours, didn't get to a parking lot to sleep until midnight last night and then slept inside of our car because there was no room at any of the hotels. so still a little bit of shock but surreal, like nothing you've ever seen. i've been to a couple rallies where i've seen the secret service come in, go around trump and protect him. one time it was like in ohio and something had dropped behind the stage and they seriously like
6:27 am
they all gather around him. then the show went on. this one here i knew the show wasn't going to go on, i knew it was over and it was like my 32ndnd rally. wilmington, that didn't happen. the optics, that was more than the storm there. that's what i watch when i go. we do a thing like boots on the ground. i look at it, try to dissect what's going on. >> reporter: thank you so much. rod, i want to go to you. you were right behind the former president. when you saw him hit the ground, what went through your mind? >> fear. first thought was my family and my wife and son and daughter in law there. we all got down between the bleachers. the shots rang out over our head. seeing the shots hitting the stage, hitting the president, people behind us screaming because the person that was hit was behind us, i think more than
6:28 am
one person possibly. i know the gentleman that was passed was in the stands behind us and another woman was being hauled out. i'm not sure if she was hit but she was unconscious when she was being carried out when we were trying to get out after we got the all-clear. it was more fear for everybody involved that a it was going to be a crowd thing or multiple, more shots coming from everywhere and my first priority was my family and then president trump raising his hand, you know -- you. >> reporter: how did it make you feel when he did that? >> that gave hope for him. relief. i was relieved that he was okay. good enough at that time to at least acknowledge that he was okay and i was hoping that, you know, it wasn't a critical shot or -- that was kind of more of an indication to me that it wasn't and, you know, it was
6:29 am
more of a relief for him at that time but it was still very scary afterwards because at one point in time we were released to get up and, no, back down, back down. we don't know if there was another shooter or anything else was going to transpire. >> reporter: tell me about the moment when the president gets up, secret service is trying to get him out of there and he turns and says fight, fight, fight. >> yeah. so this is kind of crazy, lawrence, you brought up a memory. as soon as yo got up, you can se me in the background and i was like yes, yes. i took my son, it says never surrender going up and down the streets going we fight harder, we fight harder, where we fight harder than we did before. i'm all in for trump, have been ever since he walked down the escalator and the fact that they tried to do this, somebody maliciously tried to do this and however it happened, like it really hurts that somebody would
6:30 am
do that to anybody, much less somebody who is fighting for us. so we're going to fight for him. >> reporter: powerful statement here. renee, ron, you can see it's deeply emotional for these folks. this is 32 for you? 32 rallies she's been to and as i said earlier in the program at the 6:00 a.m. hour, if it wasn't for the lord jesus christ our lord and savior we would probably be talking about obituary for the former president of the united states. guys, back to you in new york city. rachel: thank you, lawrence. ainsley, you just heard lawrence talking to these witnesses, these fans of donald trump who were at the rally. they were there but i think -- i know i'm sure you're getting messages, we're getting messages from people across the uncountry. people are angry about what just happened. really deeply angry. >> reporter: you know, when you hear their accounts of what happened and you see how emotional she was, so many of us love this country so much and
6:31 am
they look to donald trump to be the hero for their children and grandchildren, they like his policies, how he fights for this country and that's why it's emotional. someone could hate someone so much, hate their politics so much they want to end their life. it's something so evil and something most of us can't understand. that's when this evil rhetoric is shed on tv or talked about by so many political leaders, it has to stop. most of us don't -- would never take action. people just say things. but there are those out there that are evil that would and this is what it looks like. donald trump is so fortunate to be alive this morning, god has big plans for his life. one millimeter away from possibly dying, assassination. so donald trump is behind us. he is five minutes down the road at bedminister. they're not letting us on the property. they're not letting people who work there on or members of the
6:32 am
country club. i'm hearing he's in good spirits. lawrence talked to him this morning. several others talked to him last night and said he was joking around and more concerned about his loved ones and how shaken some of them were, concerned about melania and baron, baron's younger and just concerned for his well-being. i know some of the older children have spoken out. they all did and they spoke out on social media, saying they appreciate the secret service. they have become so close to their detail. i know the children love the detail so much. but it's a tough subject. all of us are wondering how could a guy with a rifle get on top of the shed or this warehouse and be so close to that stage and those are the questions we all have. congressman comer will have an investigation that he'll start this week and interview the director of the fbi. so we'll continue to keep you posted on that. now we're off to the convention, the president says -- president trump says we're still having
6:33 am
it, it's still on and schedule as usual. so i'll see you all there. rachel: unstoppable. >> thank you for coverage all morning long. we pr appreciate it. rachel: thanks, ainsley. >> the former president's grown children reacting to last nights' assassination attempt many don junior writing this, he'll never stop fighting to save america and that iconic he toe toe. eric trump saying on x, surrender. rachel: ivanka writing, quote, i'm great follow the secret service and law enforcement officers for quick and decisive actions today. i continue to pray for our country, i love you dad, today and always. tiffany saying this, quote, the outpouring of love and support for my dad dad is greatly appreciate incorporated. thank you god for keeping my father alive. political violence is never the answer. >> our next guest has been to countless trump rallies over the year, former senior counselor
6:34 am
and fox news contributor kelley ann conway joins us now. good morning to you. you have taken on all the coverage last night. you've been to many of these rallies and you've been watching this morning. so what are your thoughts? >> well, i'm not surprised that the trump children have weighed in because this is a very tight-knit family and when president trump decided he was going to run again, obviously everybody is all a-in. my thoughts are that going to those rallies over many years,e feel they're part of a movement. donald trump doesn't erect typical political campaigns. he built a movement. people feel they're part of that. many have been denigrated not just by political adversary but family and friends, colleagues. there's been division in the country. and yet they go. i provided countless selfie as a staffer, signed their signs and
6:35 am
then when you listen to why they're there, it's always substantive. this is the man that's going to help us with the economy, this is the man that respects law enforcement, border patrol, military veterans, military spouses, this is the man that didn't start any new wars, in fact recalibrated trade deals, is asking other nato countries to pay their fair share. people are specific about the policy prigses of donald trump -- policy prescriptions of donald trump. he makes you feel part of that. ani believe president trump is a metmetaphor for the entire nati. we are brought to our knees and we must get back up and fight. the theme in mill milwaukee, kp america great, keep merck ameria strong. we're trying to tamp down the political rhetoric. i get that. it wasn't that long ago that
6:36 am
january 6 committee benny thompson intros duesed ledge -- introduced legislation to strip any convicted felon of secret service protection. it's not just petty. it's dangerous. it's unamerican. i can read the list of co-sponsors that he had that were all too happy to remove secret service protection from a former president, every former president that we have and former first ladies have secret service protection for life and yesterday you see exactly why that is the case. so we know that president trump will not be cowed. he's the strongest, most resilient man that i've ever met. i think we're all very shaken. we've all been there on the podium with him, in the audience and the person who lost his or her life yesterday, i think we have to keep that american close in -- that person close in heart. all they were doing is showing love for america, it's our first amendment right, right to assembly, right to speech, right to political gatherings and
6:37 am
nobody should feel deterred. also, i feel that president trump, you know, when he talks about why he's running again even someone like me who cares about him and his family said to him a while ago, you don't need to do this. you know, we all hope you doness do this, you don't need to. you have a great life, apacing wife, wonderful children, 10 grandchildren, fabulous golf game, if you really love the person as i do and i'm grateful for all the opportunities he's give me and what he's done for america and would do again, if you love the person you wonder why do this again. but it's never hesitation for him. you see why he's doing it. he's going to get back on his feet like you saw yesterday, get back on his feet, encourage he eveverybody to do the same, come to wisconsin and address the nation if not the world and the mess had an will be one of strength. in recent weeks it's been president trump whos is june ung
6:38 am
the country, the other party is divided about their nominee. he's been i think much more unifying, much more cohesive and expanding the party and expanding his political map and i think this is a metaphor for that the as well. we all need to come together. we will not forget the political rhetoric that others are using, the hateful speech making its way on social media last night. there's no time for that. i haven't been able to verify it. apparently there's a benny thompson staffer, i got it from a staffer, hey, shooter, get lessons, next time don't miss. i'm not for political violence. this is what you get for all your hate, saying that to the former president. we cannot have that, ladies and gentlemen. it's a dangerous world. and the secret service is excellent. i was just a staffer. i had 24/7 secret service protection when i got to the white house because of how crazy people are out there. and how at risk we all were and are but guess what?
6:39 am
the evil people have to be right just one time, one second, one moment. president trump had the hand of god on his shoulder last night. he came within inches of his life and we're so grateful to law enforcement, those who don't back the blue, what want to defund the police, not defend the police, who won't j generouy resource border patrol, law enforcement, brave men and women in uniform, please rethink that. they're here to protect all of us, regardless of politics. rachel: thank you. thank you for bringing up those in the crowd, not just the one who lost their life but all of donald trump supporters, he's the most persecuted politician ever, i think in the history of the world. and also his followers have been persecuted by our own government, sadly, and i really am a thankful you're bringing that up as well. >> they're not deplorable. they're not deplorable. nonotirredeemable.
6:40 am
they're wou wonderful people. >> president trump confirms he will speak at the convention this week after surviving the assassination attempt on his life. >> the trump cam campaign detais new security measures that will be in police while telling staffers dangerous rhetoric on media will not be tolerated. >> bill me milugian is live ths morning. >> we'll get him in a minute. brian kilmeade is on standby for us. if you're there, host of "fox & friends" on the weekday, he's heading to the rnc in milwaukee. your thoughts, taking this in this morning. >> well, you know, it was amazing, because i was at an event. i was going to do my typical show last night. all of a sudden we hear about
6:41 am
the assassination attempt. i'm trying to get things together and i thought to myself, dave mccore mack's got to be there, he wants to be pennsylvania's senator, iraq war vet, probably has a sense of what's going on. i was struck by a few things, number one, he was. number two, he was able to give us an eyewitness account, give me an eyewitness account, transfer it over to the show what was going on. he said there were definitely shots. the initial report from the white house was there was an incident. i think thinking if you if you hear pops and see blood, ho could you say there's an incident. having said that, i think that you're looking at a situation where i think the president kale came out, when hesaid i've got o the crowd for hanging around, not having a mass stampede. i wasn't thinking of. dan bongino, talking about the perimeter, how it's a failure. i'll let the experts figure that out. i want to know what the call was like with president biden and president trump.
6:42 am
because maybe they could do a lot in this country and i know there's a lot of blame to go around, and they did try to take all his money away and bankrupt him, did try to kick him off the ballot, tried to keep him in court instead of letting him run between the stiff arms he's able to give some of these cases and beating others, and able to hold off sentencing until september, he has surged in the polls found a way to do all that. you spent a lot of time over the last three weeks with my jaw on the ground watching the coverage of other stations on joe biden. they were attacking joe biden like he was donald trump. everything he does shows he's lost it, shows he's not worthy, terrible, but then they would flip to trump. we have to get a better nominee, not because democrats should win, because this guy is so terrible. he will destroy the country, he's going tok eradicate the constitution, going to destroy democracy, this is the last election we're going to have. and my jaw would stay on the ground. i'm thinking to myself who are
6:43 am
they talking about. they have listened to the speeches? they have heard what he's saying. i know he talks directly, in big glossy statements. but there's nothing -- you saw him for four years. why are you making people so incensed that maybe they take a shot like this because they think democracy's in the balance, it's almost their patriotic duty to do this. i don't know what this lunatic, 20-year-old was doing. obviously, unbalanced. but if you keep talking like the country's going to come to an end instead of lower tax, different border policy, different foreign policy, different domestic poll circumstance oil drilling instead of electric cars, that's what we should be debating about, shouldn't be about the world is ending if the other guy wins and loses. i'm curious if they both, trump and biden took it down a notch last night and i think i watched a lot of joe biden's last few speeches, i'm not blaming him for anything but he is talking like if you elect the other guy, the world is coming to an end
6:44 am
and i think that's got to stop. and i think also the last point i would say about what's happening historically, you look at donald trump right now, reminds me of teddy roosevelt, when he is running against woodrow wilson and taft, about to give a speech, gets shot in the chest. he takes a step, says i'm giving the speech anyway. the speech was 50 50 pages. the bullet got caught in the paperwork. he gave the speech bleeding. this president probably would have still given the speech. that talks about who he is as a person. dana white, president of ufc, sees the toughest men in the world face-to-face every day and said bar none, donald trump is the toughest guy in all of them. he told me that three weeks ago and this is proof of it. rachel: brian, the republican
6:45 am
party, the republican voters vovote for donald trump, the strongest man in the world, i think it says a lot about his voters what they've had to withstand and still pick who they think was the toughest so a throat be said about he everybody and it's great analysis, brian, and we'll be watching tonight. >> thanks, brian. >> thanks so much, guys. rachel: just in, trump campaign detailing new security measures that will be in place while telling staffers dangerous rhetoric on social media will not be tolerated. >> so they're setting new security measures for the rnc as they head to mill milwaukee. there's an appropriate focus on exactly the type of rhetoric that's led to moments like this, whether or not that's going to continue. i think there should be a lot of pressure, you used the word earlier about inspection, inspection how this happened, what led to this, both in the media, from the democratic party and from social media. >> felt like we saw it coming.
6:46 am
political assassination, investigation, special counsels, impeachment, they tried to sigh whens him, indicted him. he'ses facing jail time and someone tried to assassinate him. rachel: add to the list -- there's 15 more things. imprisoned aides, imprisoned voters. >> moments ago, james comer telling fox he expects an emergency hearing with you u.s.. secret service director as soon as tomorrow about the assassination attempt. rachel: brooke sigman spoke with former attorney general bill barr who told them the democrat have to stop the talk about trump being an ex sen ex e shale threat to -- existential threat to democracy. he is not.
6:47 am
>> if that's the premise, you have nothing else to run on. will they be so irresponsible to continue that kind of rhetoric? >> yes. >> i fear you're probably right. our next guest knows about political violence, steve ska se scalise was shot at a baseball practice. you have a unique special perspective, the spector of political violence is always there and it can be what people say that encourage an environment where it actually happens. >> yeah, absolutely. and what brian said is right too. i mean, everybody's got to look at the rhetoric but it's one side that is going after donald trump in a way to demonize him personally. when we talk about the policies of the democrats and the pro are dress i'ves, -- progressives it's the policies that need to be front and center. the left seems to have targeted donald trump as a person. they don't talk about -- they
6:48 am
talk about how they don't like his policies. they go after him personally. they demonize him. it's a weaponization that is dangerous. the mainstream media does it too. they have to look in the mirror. it's been an all out assault on donald trump, the person for years now and it adds up. i saw this myself when the shooter went on the baseball field to kill all of us as republicans, the rhetoric from the left was what charged the shooter and it was very violent rhetoric. it was rhetoric that's not even true about republicans and that's what's being said now again. it's got to stop. they do it all the time and they just kind of act like, well, you know, it's somebody else, it's society. it's not society. all it takes is one unhinged person. but that one unhinged person is acting on things specifically that are said by the left. that's what's got to stop. >> congressman, as much as we say it's got to stop, your own
6:49 am
personal experience sadly suggests it will not stop. didn't stop after what happened to you. and as pete and i were discussing, it's the central theme to joe biden's re-election campaign in 2024, that donald trump is a would-be authoritarian on the edge of dictatorship and compared to hitler. do you have any real hope based on your personal experience, what you know about the re-election campaign, that they're going to stop with the rhetoric. >> i think one of the only reasons they do is because they think it works for them. when it stops working, that's when it's going to stop. most americans were disgusted by what they saw. even people that wouldn't vote for donald trump thought yesterday was a disgusting day that one person would try to take out the leading candidate for president of the united states. this is not a third world country. we can't tolerate third world activity in the united states. if it were not for the hand of god, god was on the ball field
6:50 am
performing miracles, that's the only reason that me and a dozen other members of congress were not taken out that day. there were miracles that day. yesterday there were miracles. i think the hand of god was there too. one centimeter over and we're having a different conversation so miracles are performed every day. thank god for that. there's hyper charged rhetoric that needs to stop from the left and as brian pointed out and kellyanne pointed out, there's legislation right now, filed by democrats from months and months ago to take away donald trump's secret service protection. that's a very specific targeted action because they don't like the person. they can't tell you what policies of his they don't like. when donald trump was president, name something he did that you didn't like. you didn't like a hot strong economy? you didn't like a secure border? you didn't like peace around the world? we had two abraham accords, peace agreements with middle east countries in israel under
6:51 am
trump and they want to act like none of that existed because they don't like the person. i think maybe they're threatened by the successes he had and that we didn't have those successes again and maybe it threatens the people in power on the left. and that's something to be accounted for. but at the same time, with donald trump himself puts himself and the family through, thank god he does because any other person that's not as strong as donald trump might have given up a long time ago but this man is strong and knows he's fighting for a movement, he's fighting for all of those people that show up at rallies, that are putting the signs out, that go to boat parades and put trump signs on their boats. you don't see that for any other elected official and it's because he ises the representative of a movement. rachel: steve, you are strong too. and we are so grateful for the miracle that saved your life. i had dinner with you just last month and it was wonderful to see you, you're bearing the scars of that. you're still dealing with the injuries of it and you're still standing too and we love you and
6:52 am
thanks so much for joining us this morning, your words are very heartening. thank you. >> thank you, sir. >> god has a p plan for all of us. god bless you. rachel: god bless you. >> joining us now, fox news contributor, former congressman, jason chaffetz. when you served in congress, you had oversight, you had direct knowledge of the secret service, as you hard the conversation last night and this morning whatter are your thoughts. >> i love the men and women who put their lives on the line and protected donald trump when shots were fired but it was a catastrophic failure from the beginning. unfortunately, we had seen this coming. the number one agency with complaints was the secret service. we did an in decent had investigation, issued -- in depth investigation, issued a report. it's in crisis, the management, the way they assign the training. you know the average secret service agent, this fridays the a report that's nine years old, the average secret service agent gets 30 minutes of training per
6:53 am
year. and it was this type of thing that we went after. now, under president obama they had to get rid of two secret service agents in a row. the first one wanted to protect the president like they do disneyland. that's literally what she said. the latest secret service director, i'm sorry, she was an executive at pepsi. she was guarding fritos and quaker oats and so she has obviously failed and people -- i'm telling you, that spokesperson who gets up there and says what he said, his butt should be fired as well. they were not candid. it was a c catastrophic failure top to bottom i talked to james comer last night for a long time because he had done this investigation. i know what it looks like going forward. and they have got to get to the bottom of the training, how did they execute this? how come there wasn't evidently drone? was the sniper given permission to strike first or did he have to wait until sh shots were fird
6:54 am
until he could shoot? a lot of unanswered questions. i think it's going to come back to -- this whole idea they're holding back resources. i know firsthand having talked to personnel, people who are protectees, their security has been diminished if not excluded and so for them to say they denied this, there's a reason why the secret service did not participate in that press conference last night. where were they? and you know what, it's interesting to me. this flows through the secretary of homeland security, and now they've given it to the department of justice. they've took it away from alejandro mayorkas. >> what hope can we have there's any accountability? afghanistan is another example of catastrophic failure, no one held accountable. >> we highlighted in the report more than 150 incidents where a security breach happened. we had shots fired on the white house, we had man with a gun
6:55 am
near president obama, we had shots fired at the vice president's house. they don't have cameras on the vice president's house, i'm talking about vice president biden at the time. it's inept. we had secret service agents that were hired and couldn't go into the white house because they had never been to the white house. we had secret service agents saying we're part of the protective detail. we weren't given radios. so they don't know what was going on. this is an agency that we highlighted this problem and the problem is they never fixed it. instead the biden administration goes off and hires somebody who worked at pepsi. guarding quaker oats, literally this is the person who is in charge of the secret service. rachel: she said one of the main goals was to make sure the secret service was 30% female instead of just getting the best of the best. >> yeah. competency. look at the video of the agent trying to holster her gun. she can't even do it. and so look, i love them. the men and women who jumped on the president protected him.
6:56 am
being critical, trying to protect the president on both sides of the aisle, they have got to get him in the car and get him out of there. watch the car, just sitting there. >> we've got to move on but thank you. rachel: are great insight. >> moments ago the trump campaign detailing new security measures being put in place telling staffers the dangerous rhetoric on social media will not be tolerated. >> they say we're enhancing the security presence with 24/7 officers on site, add diecious nail security a-- additional security assessments will in place. the high oft priority is to keep people safe. the rnc convention will continue as planned in mill milwaukee. wi.rachel: we're learning new details about president biden's phone call with trump, a white house official confirms it was good, short and respectful. >> special report anchor bret baier is live in mill way you kd of tomorrow's republican national convention. you've seen a lot of things,
6:57 am
covered a lot of things. we didn't see this coming or did we. >> reporter: did not see this coming, good morning. >> or did we? >> reporter: that's true. you have been talking about a lot of things they, worries about this. i'm on the floor of the convention site. as you can see, they're getting ready, final preparations and the stage behind me and you can see the fox news booth, shannon breen, fox news sunday. everybody is getting ready. i ran into the rnc chairman, whatley this important, he said everything is going to go forward. that they are really stepping up security and i can testify to that. it took us a long time to get through the lines to get here this morning so the security is already noticeably different. listen, this convention is going to be different after what happened yesterday. there already was this sense that the trump campaign, the former president was going to make a pitch about strength versus weakness and that was kind of the pitch going in.
6:58 am
it fits into this. the strength after that picture, after that moment, after what happened and that in indelable image of him putting a fifth in the air has really galvanized a lot of repub republican we've td to saying this was a moment of strength in the worst moment possible. so expect that to be a theme now, that they really hit on. they were already going to hit on. dana white was going to introduce and may be the introduction to the former president, saying that he is the strongest guy he's known and obviously dana white, the head of the ufc. the last conversation was really important about where the investigation goes, what we know about this shooter, what exactly we're finding out day-to-day. a lot of different media have been focused on that he's a registered republican, they leave out the fact that he donated to a progressive cause,
6:59 am
just a small donation at the inauguration day, 2021. there's very little online presence about this guy, thomas crooks. he's 20 years old. we have a lot to learn in coming but here as far as the politics goes, there's a sense of galvanizing and moving behind the former president like we really haven't seen in a number of weeks. will: you know, it does feel a bit -- and i'm not suggesting it's crass on your part, because we have to go there, but it's an inherently political act, isn't it, bret? and its impacts are going to be huge when it comes to politics. and i wonder two things, does it undercut the central democratic theme of his re-election campaign, that donald trump's a threat to democracy? if you can't keep a this kind of rhetoric up. and secondarily, that image alone right there, i think it galvanizes more than the base. i have to wonder how it affects independents. >> yeah. listen, i think the former
7:00 am
attorney general, bill barr, coming out and saying this is really something the democrats should not be talking about, the threat to democracy, because it is fueling a lot of fervor against the former president and his supporters, the other side says tone the it down on the other side. bottom line is that this changes this race. i know politics, talking about this after this, it's all about digesting what happened yesterday, talking to the trump people. that's what they're doing today. the former president, we're told, is in great spirits, and we should hear from him soon. rachel: he is a fighter. pete: bret baier, thank you. check out "special report" live from the rnc in milwaukee today through thursday. want to thank you all for being with us this five hours on "fox & friends." rachel: remarkable. pete: we pray for the president of the united states and go to church and say your prayers as well for our country. will: continuing coverage a on the fox news channel. rachel: bye, everybody. >> thank you, guys and good morning. he is bloodied but
