this is fox news coverage president biden's speech to the nation from the oval office that evening and brett. good evening everyone martha maccallum coming to live from the visor form in milwaukee, wisconsin home to this week's republican national convention. our panel is here and with us standing by. >> back in washington the president expected to call for unity of the assassination attempted assassination biden of trump. they had eight short and good conversation. flexible repressi but present tn walk a short time it out let's check it was senior white house correspondent peter doocy from the front lawn. present biden's third ever oval office address is a key test of his pledge to restore the soul of the nation and it is a big moment for a president who says another act of political violence the deadly race riots in charlottesville inspired his last campaign the one that landed him here. we do expect this to be non- and
9:02 pm
unity. he's skipping events tomorrow the did tell us he will resume the campaign in las vegas on tuesday. >> peter doocy live from the north lawn thank you it is rare to get the oval office addresses these days. this one matches this moment. lexa president said last night he wanted to bring unity to the office tonight's speech looks to be about that. his present biden from the oval office for. >> follow americo to speak to you about the need for us to lower the temperature and our politics. and to remember while we may disagree we are not enemies. we are neighbors. we are friends, coworkers, citizens and most importantly we are fellow americans. we must stand together. yesterday shooting at donald trump's rally in pennsylvania calls on all of us to take a step back. take stock of where we are, how we go forward from here. thankfully, former trump is not

seriously injured. spoke with him last night i am grateful he is doing well. joel and i keep him and his family in our prayers. wheat et cetera deepest condolences to the family and the victim who was killed cory it was a husband, father, volunteer firefighter, a hero is sheltering his family from those bullets we should hold his family and all those injured in our prayers. earlier today i spoke of an ongoing investigation. we do not know the motive of the shooter yet. we do not know his opinions or affiliations. we do not know whether whether he had help or support or communicate with anyone else. law enforcement professionals as i speak are investigating those questions. tonight i want to speak to what we do know. a former president was shot an american citizen killed while simply upper size exercising his freedom to support the candidate of his choosing we cannot, we must not go down this road in
9:04 pm
america. we traveled it before throughout our history. violence is never been the answer. whether it is with members of congress in both parties being targeted in the shot or a violent mob attacking the capitol on january 6, her brutal attack on the spouse former speaker of the house nancy pelosi. or information and intimidation on election officials or the kidnapping plot against a sitting governor, and attempted assassination on donald trump. there is no place in america for this kind of violence, for any violence ever. no exceptions. we cannot allow this violence to be normalized. that political rhetoric has gotten very heated. it's time to cool it down. we'll have a responsibility to do that. we are deeply felt strong disagreements. the stakes of this election are enormously high. i said it many time the choices we will likely make in this
9:05 pm
election will shape the future of america in the world for decades to come. i believe that with all of my soul. i know millions of my fellow americans believe it as well. some have a different view as to the direction our country should take. disagreement is inevitable and american democracy it's part of human nature but politics must be a literal battlefield offer that a killing field for a peaceful debate to pursue justice to make decisions guided by that declaration of independence and our constitution. we stand for and america not of extremism but of decency and grace. all of us now face the time as the election approaches. the higher the stakes in more fervor and the passions become. this is an added burden on each of us to ensure no matter how strong our convictions we must never descend into violence.
9:06 pm
republican convention will start tomorrow. i have no doubt they will criticize my record and offer their own vision for this country. i'll be traveling this week making the case for our record and my vision our vision will speak out strongly for the democracy center for the constitution and the rule of law. to call for action at the ballot box no violence on our street that is out democracy should work. we debate mayorkas agree we or e in compact contrast the records the issue the agenda of the vision for america. but in america we resolve our difference at the ballot box. that's how we do it, at the battle box ballot box not with bullets that shou it should rese hands of the people not the hands of would-be assassins. the path forward through visions of the campaign should always be resolved peacefully. not through acts of violence.
9:07 pm
are blessed to live in the greatest country on earth and i believe that with every soul every power of my being. so tonight and asking every american to recommit to make america what it is. think about what is made america so special? here in america every went must be treated with dignity and respect hate must have no safe harbor. here in america we need to get out of our silos and only listen to those with whom we agree or misinformation is rampant. foreign actors fan the flames of our division to shape the outcome consistent with their interest not ours. what's a member here and america you need the most elusive of goals right now nothing is more important for us now then standing together. we can do this. for the beginning our founders understood the power of passion so they created democracy. gave reason and balance
9:08 pm
challenge to prevail over brute force. that is the america we must be. american democracy were arguments are made in good faith. american democracy for the rule of law is respected. american democracy were decency and dignity are not just quaint notions but living breathing realities. we owe that and those who came before us and those who gave their lives for this country. we owe that to ourselves we owe that to our children and our grandchildren. let's never lose sight of who we are. let's remember we are the united states of america. there is nothing, nothing beyond our capacity when we do it together. god bless you all and may god protect our troops. click saying he wants to bring the temperature of this country down. we must not we cannot allow for
9:09 pm
violence to be the issue of the day, the road in america. he also said he wanted the country to move forward in unity he referenced the convention here starting tomorrow. office of the president is under a lot of scrutiny because it is debate performance. and so a couple of time it slip-uandslip-ups going former t trump former trump, we resolve our differences at the ballot box the battle box. that obviously gets picked up but the message of unity is when he wanted to get through. few slips on the teleprompter from the president when these big oval office moments this is the third time he has used this pulpit for this opportunity. he is shifting rather than trump is the embodiment of an attack on democracy which has been a huge thrust of the biting campaigns of our you feel that i can't talk either, the subtle shift that we are seeing in the

presentation for the spring and our panel dana's coanchor of america's new room cohost of the five harold ford junior tennessee congressman coast of the five. fox news chief political analyst brit hume not a cohost of the five. [laughter] but here they love to have impaired your thoughts on this question pluck. >> the message was just right. he presides over the executive branch. the executive branch is responsible for the security of these campaigns. this is one of the agencies over which he has authority whose failure the obvious failure in this case to keep this assassination attempt from happening is under scrutiny he need to be out there a need to say something as a leader of the executive branch his message was just right most americans will look at it and say you are right the feud stumble see head may be a further reminder of his frailty but nonetheless he did what he could i thought. correct darequired for someone n
9:11 pm
the position he is in at the desk he is sitting at in the oval office to say and this begins with me. i won't lead, follow me, file follow my lead i will show everyone i can do this talked about his campaign were going to get back to the campaign that was pretty clear from this. i like th to give unity and accountability because as the days got on there gone on thered more questions about what happened. i think america will be glad to sell president biden tonight but the president they really want to hear from his donald trump. hugs harold. looks to hear dane's point about the speech met the moment for what the moment is. we all wash and horror i'm a democrat i wash with my kids last night after party with some of their friends at our home. it moved them. now they were not watching president biden but i've got to think their number people around the country wanted to hear the president tell us, or midas were
9:12 pm
not enemies, where neighbors and problem solves our country's greatest country in the world the advancements around the world the influence we have on the world is because of who we are we work together. i do think it's important hear from president trump or will the next few days his tone are equally important i read his words his wife the beautiful words i can only imagine the presence went to live up to that example. >> will see is here in milwaukee tonight did speak to him briefly today. he is projecting, at least right now a settlement of unity as mobile so that speech looks like comes thursday. michaecrackle find was a runnine is as early as tomorrow will be watching. thank you very much watch a special coverage of president biden's over oval office speech with us. will have full coverage of the republican national convention all week long a special edition of jesse watters prime time starts now. >> fox news alert you just heard president joe biden's address to the nation after gunmen
9:13 pm
attempted to assassinate donald trump. current president should not be enemies. we are neighbors he called for a moment of national unity which are all great things to say. if look at the president's actions as a president tried to incarcerate his political opponents and some of things he said about him being a threat to democracy and a dictator to life in an enemy of the states really do not drive with the message we heard tonight. trump just knelt landing in milwaukee with his wounds still fresh as you see their descendent b.trump said he felt the bullet ripping through his skin. take a look at what happened. get down get down get down get down. what are we doing? what are we doing? go, go, go.
9:14 pm
[background noises] hold, hold, hold when you're ready on you. move it. move it. go. hawkeye is here. hawkeye is here. are you ready? are we good question at shooter's downward shooter is down or be good to move? we are clear we are clear. were good. pack him up. >> let me get my shoes because i've got you sir, i've got you sir. >> i've got usurper let me get my shoes hold this on your head it's bleeding. or at shooter's down, let's get the shoot.
9:15 pm
>> wait, wait. we've got to move. we've got to move. usa. usa. usa. usa. usa. usa. usa. usa. >> how did this happen question we do not know if the alleged assassin acted alone orpheus part of a conspiracy. the fbi's telling us he was a lone actor but we do not trust the fbi. we do not trust the media.
9:16 pm
all americans should be skeptical about what they hear. reaganbut reagan's want to be an was a lone wolf. jfk assassin wasn't he had help and there is a cover-up. our job is to be curious. this is the most serious assassination attempt in 40 years. how can a man to climb a ladder onto a roof, mount eight rifle and unloaded eight rounds from 130 yards will have a full report on the shooter thomas matthew crooks coming up. shots came from the roof of american glass research. it is a company we will be investigating. this shooter case the building beforehand? why didn't the secret service when they surveyed the sight of the rally account for this building? why aren't their counters snipers on that roof? the associated press is local police officer saw a crook climb the roof when he confronted him crooks and pointed his rifle at him the officer retreated. and then crooks opened fire on
9:17 pm
45. fbi is denying that report which is weird because the fbi never comments on active investigations. many other people notice the shooter on the roof. >> we notice the guy crawling army, bear crawling up the roof of the building beside us. 50 feet away from us. so we are standing there pointing at the guy crawling up the roof. >> he had a gun, right question can be had a rifle we could clearly see them with the rifle absolutely. we are pointing at hampering the police are down there running around on the ground but we are like hey man, there's a guy on the roof with a rifle the police are like a hawk, or what? they didn't know what was going on. where like right here on the roof we can see him from right here we see him. he is crawling. the next thing you know i'm thinking to myself why is trump still speaking? >> the crowd quieted the crowd knows issue before law enforcement's job it is to look
9:18 pm
for shooters? he's got a gun. he's got a gun. he's on the roof, he is on the roof. >> multiple eyewitnesses told police he saw a man with a gun. how is crooks able to fire eight rounds at trump before law enforcement return fire? >> what did you see i in here? >> i noticed two officers that were looking for something or somebody. i was looking around myself and seen a guy on top of one of the buildings go in between one building to the next. and it went until the officer that he was up there. when i went back to my spot i heard people could still see the person from where they were standing. so i checked that out i went back to tell the officer if he came over there he could see you then. when i turned my back is
9:19 pm
when the shots started. >> whited take eight rounds to ring out before somebody return fire? sources tell prime time the counter sniper team that neutralize crooks were secret service sharpshooters. the "washington post" reports the counter snipers were local cops. if that is true, why is the secret service relying so heavily on locals? why did the counter snipers who had th their rifles trained on s assassin not shoot first? why is the one agent head popping up in the air? why is and he zeroed in on his scope? when the secret service to send on trump why did they say on stage for so long? if you listen closely you can you're one of the female secret service agents completely confused. >> what are we doing? what are we doing? this lady was not prepared. the secret service is not answering any questions.
9:20 pm
they skipped out on the press conference last night and today told us they would not say anything. some of the agents you are looking at do not look competent and how do you protect the president from sniper fire if you are not tall enough? i didn't resave the head of the secret service kimberly cheatle a bonus. cheatle is a bite and hired she was on his detail when he was vp he brought her back in her main focus is hiring more women are onon aper female agents just haa nervous breakdown they covered up the cocaine in the white house covered up for hunter. naomi biden agent had the vehicle carjacked how is of the head of the secret service has not tendered her resignation today? why hasn't biden fired cheatle and biden did not fire anybody after up innocent did not fire mayorkas after the border. cheatle's got to go and nobody can trust this investigation because the same people investigating this assassination attempt produce the russia hoax,
9:21 pm
launched a coup against trump, raided his house and are trying to put them in prison now. congressman michael walt said reliable sources tell him the trump team has been putting and repeated requeinrepeated requesr secret service protection. the secret service denied this claim. but obama had sheets of bullet proof glass shielding him when he was running for president. the secret service will not even check a roof with a clear line of sight to trump stage? this is one of the biggest moments in american history. we were an inch away from a live execution and we deserve accountability not a cover-up. if trump can stay alive until november, he wins. but he has to stay alive as president two. there was an angel in pennsylvania last night, donald trump has been blessed. sources say the president understands the moment and going forward will be running on
9:22 pm
peace, unity and love. so hug your friends and family and embrace this message. but also brace yourself for more darkness because they will stop at nothing. let's print florida congressmann former u.s. army sniper corey mills. what kind of shot was this from 130 yards quester. >> look at the end of the day this is a shot your basic training boot camp soldier is requested to make within their nine week. this is one of the easiest shots they trained all that up to 300 or 500. resident counter sniper is not with united states army is actually one is with the state department was doing this exact thing which is trying to look at going out with an advance team, establishing what the perimeter is and as a sniper you would set up you'd put together ranges sketch or your range fan cards out tie we are 100, 200, 300 unit identify the areas of threat you would be able to mitigate and there's multiple targets you understand your
9:23 pm
elevation and wind would not be messed with the special 160 yards per you could literally look quickly glance and know from the reference point whether it be a building, a lone tree a parking lot maybe it's a road. bottom line is massive negligence to the point of me speculating what was intentional and what was not. >> wow. you do a site survey you're seeing this rooftop not that far away, why don't look like the counter sniper team was a little surprise? >> i can only speculate want to wait until the investigation comes out they thought the local law enforcement's potential climbing up on the roof he saw a dark object in the light roof. >> you are saying maybe they misconstrued crooks for a friendly for local law enforcement? whawhich is very possibly don't just speckle into the investigation is over the bottom line is if you saw someone climbing onto a roof that you would not authorize clearance on it is got a clear line of sight part is exactly adjacent to the shooting with the president was sitting you are trying but a pop shot you've got people yelling
9:24 pm
and there should've been columns the minute that local law enforcement who apparently had a rifle pointed on him there should've been emergency frequent calms a sham of the code is a rib shooter on the roof shooter on the roof secret service should've rushed the stage and butte took the present off and then responded to the counter sniper the shop should not have gone off that is a failure in itself. you'ryou are supposed to be abl- make your the best security is when you go in your able to prevent an incident not react to an incident. even if you would have left a law enforcement officer patrol call in that parking lot with the lights on that could've been a deterrent when you have nothing that should enforce a protection you are encouraging disparate look, i am not sure who the individuals are on the end to build detail secret service but i could sail under this biden administration the one thing i have seen is massive pethe ei hires i can tell you wn you primarily go after dei you u end up with the ie. >> you have these counter snipers awaiting until eight rounds are fired, what accounts for that? after the first shot you get
9:25 pm
return fire immediately question. >> the minute a shot rang out the should've been on scope your spotter should've already called the distance if you did not look to your range card you should immediately engage. there should've been no reason to avoid and weighted a single set i talked to eric trump after the incident eric and i both got enthusiasts we both shoot long distance. that right there is a pop shot he did say i've gone out with the cs teams and they are one of the best seat knows the actual service detail that is within their loyal individuals who actually do care about the president i can say that was relayed to me. the bottom line is this is a massive security breach. this is a huge failure at negligence at best. we have to figure out why something within 200 yards come think about this at 200 yards that means an average rifle that holds one minute of angle hold a 2-inch grouping if you shot it straight up the deck meeting on a platform. you're talking 161.6 inches is what its grouping capabilities are for the average head is what, six by eight shoulder to shoulder is 20 inches question
9:26 pm
it had to waste is 40 inches president trump is a very large man. this is a shot within five mins i could teach you to make nine out of 10 times this is divine intervention. this is god having his protective hand and wearing ephesians six the armor of god over the president. this right here a millisecond or millimeter and change this is an attempted assassination this is an assassination of a president piglet said devil is in butler, pennsylvania but so was god. >> i can say will more thing myf obey let us also remember king henry the second went in and said can know it rid me of this turbulent priest and his knights went out and killed the archbishop of canterbury the thought that was a direct order. what you say when president biden says it's time to put a target on trump? that in my opinion is insightful rhetoric that is the stuff they would've went after for the jacek stuff so why don't we have earned j13 investigation? looks or needs to be a full investigation on this absolutely it is to not be cricket like some these other former investigations were. quickset is right. >> you are the best thank you.
9:27 pm
the biography of this gunman is very suspicious he it is so cloudy he is a 20-year-old who lives with his parents works as a nutrition ate at a physical rehabilitation facility. as a high school graduate who is described as a loner but kind. abc reports that as a freshman he tried out for a rifle team, did not make it. his social media spin and shows no political intensity. the fbi says motive besides the obvious is unclear. they also said he appeared to be acting alone but we will have to investigate that ourselves. we are hearing reports saying his parents were both social workers certified psychological counselors permit independently confirm that yet but was he on prescription medication? we do not know but if his parents were licensed and trained to observe psychological cues, how did they not flagged that their son was an assassin?
9:28 pm
the gun the shooter allegedly useuse was the dads. today it was an ar style 556 rifle we do not know if it was stolen or he had access to it at the house. apparently crooks was a registered republican but donated to democrats on the same day as biden's inauguration. he made the donation on act blue which many people have complained about donations have been made in their names that they are unaware of. do not read too much into the political affiliation because james comey also a registered republican. reports a police found explosive materials in crooks car and house. this guy is highly intelligent he won them math and science award in high school. so far there is no clues as to why a young man like this would try to murder a president. that is odd. fox news correspondenfox news cn joins us now.
9:29 pm
>> good evening. federal investigators tell us at this point there is no indication the shooter thomas matthew crooks battled a mental illness or was part of a larger plot. but jesse i can tell you at this hour we still see plenty of federal agents combing through the shooter's home we are here about 60 miles south of where the shooting took place. there's already been some alarming discoveries we know bomb making materials were found inside the home and ied's were found in the shooter's car paper jesse tonight i'm told her my law enforcement sources they are zeroing in on gaining access to the shooter's phone. i am told it is not until they gain access to the phone they will really know for sure what may have motivated this 20-year-old to bring terror to a campaign stop for our former president donald trump. in the meantime we are talking to some of the shooter's classmates they paint a picture of isolation. i want to roll some sound of a student we spoke with.
9:30 pm
thanks i did not have any interaction with him. but he was like a kid that was always alone. he was always and bullied he was just an outcast. >> and now, however quiet crooks may have been his background check came up clean and he was able to get a job as a dietary aide at a local skilled nursing and rehabilitation center. we spoke with that center they told us they are cooperating with the investigation and a worker there told me she was left shocked by what is taking place and she mentioned the political leanings of this young man are a bit of a mystery voting records show he is a registered republican. another set of records we reviewed sjostrom the 2021 inauguration he made $15 donation to the progressive turnout project is a chicago-based political action committee. a lot of unanswered questions tonight perhaps at the top of
9:31 pm
them is how it was this gunman able to access a roof with a direct vantage point to where our former president was standing. >> thanks cb. a bloodied fist pumping president trump proved last night while they call him teflon.if tru don if trump can y alive until november he wins this election walking away. between the indictments, the mug shot, the assassination attempt in a disastrous biden presidency, trump could survive any deep state october surprise at this point. the american people are behind him. this is biden's worst nightmare the oath and fires up his base really vicious attacks on trump. i now can biden called trump a dictator or a threat to democracy when he just survived an actual threat to democracy? an assassination attempt in battleground pennsylvania. estate were trump has a commanding lead his base is more motivated than ever. how does a biden who was still
9:32 pm
facing calls to step aside navigate this new environment? he has already pulled the huge slate of negative tv ads perhaps a preview of the shift in his approach. that is a problem for joe he cannot make this campaign about himself because he is old and it's got no record to run on. one democrat consultant told nbc quote the presidential contest ended last night. now it's time to focus on keeping the senate and trying to pick up the house. the only positive thing to come out a blessing for democrats is we are no longer talking about joe biden's age to date. another democrat insiders summed it up a little more succinctly saying this, we are so beyond theft. former speaker of the house kevin mccarthy joins me now. what did you think of the presence of office address it? what support is appropriate when he said i thought it was right timing. if you watch it he caught himself he almost said make america great again. [laughter] did you see that he said america than he had to stop he could tell his teleprompter and it
9:33 pm
really what he's doing there he's doing what is appropriate for president now comb the temperature down but he is also solidifying his own race. prior to this assassination the whole quest was to get him out from running and had a couple more weeks to go before the august democratic convention. they wanted to take a run on him that is now put aside. >> is probably going to be the nominee unless they try to click settgosettle think they can now. >> it is >>. how does he run against donald trump now? he's got the mug shot, of the bullet basically came within an inch of his brain. he's got this fist in the air with the flag and bled over his face. it sends a chill every time i see that root how do you run against a guy like that? >> i don't know because that photo will be the most iconic photo for our entire generation. we know we were at that moment of time the who called us, the
9:34 pm
picture, the flag behind it. that is not something staged. this on a teleprompter, that is not written that is a situation that happened how did your commander-in-chief act during that moment in time? you are going to question when you make this decision do you want somebody strong like that in the oval office someone who could stand up. how did think the foreign leaders i've had calls today from foreign leaders and other countries asking me how president trump is doing. they are shocked to with democracy what is happening. when you look at everything that has gone on to go against a president trump and how he is standing and who is he standing for? it was not about him bloodied he was there for the people he's standing up for them going it's even when so many shooting him it's less than an inch how close that came to losing his whole life. i talked to him today it is amazing. he would tell me about hearing the bull at the speed of it i could tell when he is telling it, whoever that happens to it affects you. but his strength of what it's
9:35 pm
about and hitting that year goes on to tell how the doctor tells him there's a lot of blood within your ear then he's told trump you understand your really big ears to you note. [laughter] cooks a good part listening to a lot of creepy people in d.c. i was the former president donald trump run now we are hearing is going to be running a more positive unifying campaign what is not going to look like? >> that's great it's bringing more people in. i think there is a moment in time they have seen such a contrast between governing under president trump and governing under biden this is a moment in time for the party to open up to people who have never thought about voting republican or not. it sounds like a reagan era you talk about the reagan democrats this is only a moment in time trump is bringing people of never thought about being republican, more people in the hispanic community black community and others that are going to say that leadership at a time when you are down who would you stand up for? everything thrown against you are the fighter for america. and also how well he has run his
9:36 pm
campaign. he has been quiet at the right time. he is but the issues of the what your border security you want an economy, portability can live through? this is the choice. >> the next debate is going to beat wilds is going to be a wild debate after surviving a gunshot and getting back up on that debate sage and facing off it was already here in town for. >> it is unbelievable i hear the writing maga hats in san francisco that's how big it is. >> without being attacked. kevin mccarthy big ears and all thank you so much. [laughter] >> la site prove the american political climate is hotter than ever. and much of the left dismay the calls for violence are coming from inside their tents. the ugliness starts at the top just a few weeks ago biden sent an open invitation to the world warding throughout trump is a threat to freedom a threat to our democracy literally a threat to everything america stands for. then he told his donors it's time to put trump in a bowl site.
9:37 pm
this is what biden said at a rally in michigan last week. >> donald trump is a convicted criminal. and i mean this from the bottom of my heart trump is a threat to this nation is even more dangerous now, i am serious he is unhinged. he will snap. he says if he loses there will be a bloodbath trump said if he wins he will be a dictator on day one. he means it, folks. we are not going to let that happen. over my dead body will it happen. americaamerica needs to wake upd realize trump and his maga republicans what they are trying to do. we are going to join them, or run to engage them and stop them. >> the left spent years laying the groundwork for violence against trump, watch. >> he is not only unfit, he is destructive to our democracy.
9:38 pm
he has to be eliminated. >> hugged her he say the things he does of course i want to punch him in the face. [applause] yes, i have thought an awful lot about blowing up the white house. >> of this kind of inspiration i will go and take trump out tonight. >> he donor class cannot sit back on the sidelines and say don't worry it will all work itself out. they are still going to have to go out and put a bullet in donald trump and that is a fact. >> they have not been subtle about it two months ago new republic published a cover story depicting trump as hitler. but she could not call trump hitler and then wish hitler a speedy recovery so save us the empty thoughts and prayers. we do not know if this guy was motivated by anything joe biden the democrat said when we probably won't know anytime soon. it was only a matter of time before someone acted on this looming threat to democracy.
9:39 pm
the rally bloodshed only came to an end after secret service guide took out the shooter. but, what if democrats ha have e right and trump had no protection? a few months ago bennie thompson introduced a bill intending to strip trump of his secret service protection quote the disgraced former protect the act would terminate secret service protection for individuals who otherwise qualify for it upon the sentencing following a conviction for a federal or state felony. this measure would apply to former president trump. after trump was shot what a benny thompson staffers posted this, don't miss it next time. not even 24 hours after the assassination attempt he left managed to blame trump for almost been killed, watch this. looks are just looking back this morning at some of the things former president trump has said he warned it last march a potential death and destruction if you are charged by the manhattan district attorney. our country is being destroyed as they tell us to be peaceful.
9:40 pm
trump and generate warned of the bedlam in the country if the criminal charges against him succeeded. and of course in march she said now if i do not get elected is going to be a bloodbath for the whole that's going to be the least of it is going to be a bloodbath for the country. that will be that lisa beatty said he was partly joking and that was taken out of context. but those are indeed his words and you have heard it from supporters as well. supporters are certainly in some parts angry and let's remember january 6. >> viagra trump uses is not nearly as dangerous as the language and the stories that are all fake the left tells about him. we are saying biden is incompetent that is what republicans say, that as it were not calling him an evil nazi who will be a dictator for life. cbs is convinced violent conservatives are the real problem here. >> you are taking me too exactly what i've been underscoring and is frankly very concerning the
9:41 pm
rhetoric we are seeing at this hour already. we are seeing some republican lawmakers come out with statements directly drawing a line which in the shooter who we do not know we do not know if he is a lone actor or with someone else drawing some connection to the government. we have nothing to base that on at this hour per click this kind of rhetoric has a nexus to violence was how that on januare attack against nancy pelosi's husband. and multiple other instances. >> is as white americans do not like the media. how are we supposed to stop this from happening again if this is the message being broadcast to the nation? former attorney general bill barth joins me now. we do not know the motivation of the shooter would have the shooter wanted trump dead, we know that. but why can the media call trump a nazi who is going to imprison all of their children and expect everyone to say to both sides

deal. >> i think trying to pin down the precise motive and how much of it was a mental imbalance or emotional imbalance and how much of it was political is a bit of a fools errand there is a mixture of things they are in the bottom line i think is that when someone is demonized to the extent trump was being demonized or putting a target on them a you are increasing the risk they are going to become a target for someone who has a mixture of these factors imbalance, some potential political element to it they become the target. what was concerning me was that and i understand the people on both sides engage in extreme rhetoric occasionally. but what was bothering me was the thrust of the democratic narrative for this election year had become that trump was up mortal danger to our democracy and if he wins the country is

ridiculous. he is not a threat to democracy they portray he was a president for four years he carried out excellent policies and it was all done lawfully. >> this is the way they motivate their base though is by electrifying them with venomous smears about being a dictator about the bloodbath hoax about him just shredding the constitution is staying in the oval office until the end. how else are they going to motivate democrat voters that they don't have this? this is the key page and the playbook. >> i do not think it is possible. i could see by august they are back to the same garbage. >> is my perception of what we suddenly saw this increase in attacks. and the decibel level and that vitriol increase because they did not have an alternative other than this apocalyptic vision they are trying to paint. and by the way it is not just

about trump we have seen the same thing with the supreme court the personal vilification of supreme court justices when they disagree with the supreme court justices on legal matters. >> i'm glad you mentioned that. i'm so glad you mentioned that because when biden was talking about the pelosi attack in january 6 and the whitmer kidnapping he did not mention the guy who showed up to kavanaugh's house with a rifle. he did not mention steve scalise shooting. those weren't much more serious than some of the other things he mentioned that you were the attorney general, twice. they are launching this investigation the fbi is in charge do you trust this fbi to do a clean investigation? >> i, i, i think they should be given a chance to do the investigation. i think congress will be watching every step an do theirn investigation. i think there's a lot to

yesterday donald trump took a bullet for america. literally centimeters away from being on th live tv thanks to a catastrophic security scripts only things slipped through the crooks how could this kid with a rifle get such a clear shot at the president secret service will not tell us they know showed less light press conference refused to answer questions about it today. they are keeping us in the dark the fbi said they're making thee shooters motive priority number one they will eventually get around to figure out how he got such a clean shot. former secret service agent dan bongino joins me now is this gross incompetence or something even more scary we cannot think about progress is gross incompetence but think about it. counter sniper teams they train at the secret service counter sniper team there to mitigate a sniper that they train out to 1000 yards. we are talking sites 200 yards is less than that with the shooter was it.
9:57 pm
you are talking about a fraction of what they are trained at their also trained to spot guys in gilly's use, cracked open winters, he is on a white roof and brought it daylight. now again would be easy for me too say let's not get into money morning quarterbacking broke, it's not a freegan football game. as the president of the night saves a life the secret service has one job. outside of counterfeiting protection is one job. you keep the body alive no matter what. they came within a millimeter of this guy losing his life. i do not understand some of the commentary. they did a great job. the body guys that response was a brave, they ran up that they didn't know there could've been 10 more shooters no doubt. those guys pretty heroic what happened there but the security failure in the perimeter as a complete total debacle no one should defend this. >> we just played the sound you

9:59 pm
were there no flayer, no thermal forward-looking infrared house a crowd acting as the freaking counter top surveillance course at the best you have is random trump supported telling police there's a guy with a gun? what technology are they deploying the bragging then this new technology. i did not see it. tell me about when they rush him over to the van, the vehicle. it seems it's on the secret service agents i just don't know if they have the stature that i would expect to see and the gravitas i would expect to see protecting the former president directs the rule is a maximum to the protect deep minimum to the problem you do not know how many problems there are so few try to rush to one problem like the malcolm x shooting then there's another problem over the aerial wind up getting dead quick they did the right thing by rushing to the protective. on the e back out you see a couple agents one cannot re- host with a weapon things like
