joe biden lecturing americans to lower the temperature unheated political rhetoric after the attempt on trump's life but does this sound tone down? >> so much violence now. we talk about it, i got in this race early on, i wasn't going to run again because i lost my son, and until i watched what happened in virginia. folks were coming out of the woods with torches, carrying swastikas. the then president at the time said there were very fine people on both sides. no excuse. zero. >> jesse: joy reid is upset trump gets treated like a victim of his own shooting. >> people are concerned and

secret service protection to rfk jr., this is another admission they were wrong and they are in danger of having another person killed for political reasons. everybody noticed trump looked different and seemed different. i think it is because he is. even harold said it. he has gone from being an outsized personality to something bigger, a legend. i am not going to say a religious figure but in some cases men don't choose their fate, their fate chooses them. i don't think he has a choice to elevate himself to a higher calling. that call did not come from inside the house. it came from somewhere else and he is realizing it, the way america is seeing these real moments where it is impossible to maintain your cynicism. you cannot be numb to this.

the temperature and condemn violence in any form. in america, we are not enemies, we are friends, neighbors, fellow americans. most importantly, we must reject political violence with violence of any kind. have to say with one voice, violence is not the answer. that is what we should rally around. that is the unity i am talking about. few organizations know that better than the naacp. for the race riots. you know the pain, the price of violence, understand if you are going to stand against violence, you must stand against all violence. stand against violence perpetrated against candidates
2:15 pm
in pennsylvania, we must stand against all violence. against george floyd in minnesota. against police officers, eugene goodman on january 6th. black election workers. you have to stand against the violence and intimidation of white supremacy, that murder innocent lives in buffalo, new york. the church in charleston, south carolina, was stand against the violence of murdered children and sandy hook, concertgoers in las vegas. these never make the news. if you are going to be outspoken on one, don't be silent on others.

if we are going to speak about violence, we are going to speak about guns. more children in america died of gunshot wounds than any other reason. that is sick. it is sheer coward in this if we do nothing about it. if you want to stand against violence in america, join me in getting these weapons off the streets of america. [cheers and applause] and ar-15 was used in the shooting of donald trump. the same assault weapon used in killing so many others, including children. it is time to outlaw them. i did it once and i will do it again.

just because you must lower the temperature, it doesn't mean we should stop telling the truth. who you are, what you have done, what you will do. that is fair game. that is what i am going to do. where is the truth about why donald trump's presidency was hell for black americans. he had a tax cut for the companies. he left no room for us to do what we should be doing, investing in things like

number two, my mental acuity has been pretty good. >> donald trump has offered biden a mulligan debate to the president says he is not interested. >> would you be open to doing one in the next few weeks. >> i am going to debate him when we agreed to debate. >> is there a sense of wanting to get back on the horse? >> i am on the horse. i have done 22 major events. overwhelming crowds. >> the biden mutiny is back on the table. they asked the dnc to postpone the virtual roll call book. it would officially nominate joe biden and they want to slam the brakes on that. there is one other clip that should get more attention. this is when lester holt asked
2:21 pm
him about having another possible episode. >> what happens if you have another episode like we saw during the debate? >> what happens? >> what if you have another performance on that level? >> i don't plan on having another performance on that level. >> i don't even think you can verb eight that. it is an audible. >> he said he didn't watch the debate. the other day, harold had a bad show when i and maybe you should go home and watch "the five," see what you did wrong, come back on monday. and he did. he came back and had a nearly perfect show. that is what you need to do. all the nfl teams do it after sunday. on tuesday, you have film

sessions. i am familiar with film ses sessions. coach tells me the whole was wide open and you run the ball right into the center. get your head out of your you know what and this is what his advisors are going to be doing. are they going to add more debates? no. that would be like adding more sand bags to the stage biden was speaking on. i can see why he is frustrated. this is the first time the media has covered him instead of covered up for him. i don't think he can survive past this convention. i think it will be more exciting than this one, if you know what i mean. >> i like that. i have a camp of people who think the nomination of j.d. vance and that hero's welcome and the momentum trump has in the polls that told him the democrats are going to lose everything means that the move
2:23 pm
to push biden out will accelerate. >> i think it will and i think harold agrees. i will let you speak for yourself later. the sad part about this and all of us cringed. the man cannot articulate what he is saying. you cannot understand what he was saying. if he were in my courtroom, i would strike his testimony. he was irritable, argumentative, combative, condescending, belligerent, and if this man is working on getting the american people to trust him and vote for him, he has already lost. lester holt is a gentleman. he tried to ask tough questions but did it in a way where if it happens again, what are you going to do? joe biden accuses him of, why don't you cover the 28 times donald trump lied.
2:24 pm
lester holt says we have but i want to ask you about x, y, z. he won't admit to anything and won't even watch himself, correct himself. you have to. >> the worst thing you can make me do was watch myself on tv. i would rather -- i won't say. the incumbent president believes -- should reflect what he sees as accomplishments and he believes he should be more popular. there are a couple of stories saying the democrats are worried he is not getting the truth about his situation in the po polls. >> that might be right. the pressure we are feeling is that some democrats and you can include me, are coming to the realization that we could lose the house, the senate, and the presidency, not because he
2:25 pm
didn't do a good job investing in our ability to be investors, protecting a woman's right to choose, it is because he cannot articulate and prosecute where he wants to take us in the future. the decision to put j.d. vance on the ticket is donald trump saying to the country, to republicans and democrats alike, i am going to put a young guy on who is smart and attractive and has a different set of views about how to grow the economy and if i win, he has an eight year runway in front of that. democrats have to make a decision. for a guy who cannot accept another debate with the former president who beat him soundly in the first debate because he froze, the answer to the question about the freeze, how do you prepare for that? you joke. if you say i am going to sleep, take nyquil. they are not being serious about
2:26 pm
this. many of us believe donald trump and j.d. vance should not be president next time. i will accept the outcome but you have to have a serious political litigation of the case and we are coming to the realization that maybe the grievances he has, if you can't answer those questions and i agree with you, you are going to have a hard time answering questions. one thing i wish he would correct. take the debate. do it and show the country you are ready for him and ready to defend democrats. >> morning jos thought he would did not do a good job, lester holt. he said you should not ask joe biden these things. >> morning joe, i cannot get over the fact that after, within 48 hours of an attempted assassination of donald trump, he did the fine people hoax.
2:27 pm
that makes him a despicable person. when i look at these clips, i see two kinds of joe biden. pathetic when he is up on stage at the naacp screaming, shouting these things, wondering why he is not getting a response. he is like in a car pressing the gas pedal but it is up on blocks and it is going nowhere and why am i not being treated like a president? no one sees you that way any anymore. events can show a man a path and show him for joe, a man who refuses to leave, history is saying it is time to go, old man. he cannot read the room. he cannot read anything right now. you wonder, why aren't people giving him advice. they have given up on him. he is alone. he is on his own. they have moved on. the only people still vouching for joe are the hard-line
2:28 pm
progressives who fear they are going to lose this hollowed out vessel they packed full of progressive toxins. they had a really good grist going where use the old white guy to sell your potions to a trusting public. biden is as relevant as a rotary phone, as necessary as a blinking 12:00 on a vcr. i don't know how you can be happy as a democrat right now. this is the difference. the right is full of happy warriors. even after the shooting, people were chanting usa. people felt love for their country and i think there is a difference, when you replace love for country with love for identity and use splinter human connection into victims competing for outrage, you wonder why one side is happy on one side is not. republicans have a spring in their step and democrats have a
2:29 pm
cold, dead winter in their souls. we should take their belts and shoelaces. you know what i am saying. this is not a good thing. i don't have sympathy for biden. after the fine people hoax, he can go to can go to hell for all i care. >> i think the body politics is better served when both sides are able to make their strongest cases for the future. it is becoming increasingly clear joe biden cannot do that. it doesn't mean his service has not been good but the journey has a different point than it
2:30 pm
was 12 or 16 years ago. >> "the new york times" is reporting the inner circle for joe biden is getting smaller and smaller. it appears the advisors are less and less politically savvy and more emotionally savvy and invested in him. >> president biden still speaking of the naacp in las vegas. we will continue to monitor it. in the meantime, it is a showdown. the biden campaign says kamala harris is prepared to debate j.d. vance. she even left him a voice mail saying she hoped to see him at the debate slated for later this summer. the media is cheering her on and smearing vance as a threat. >> i hope j.d. vance channels kamala harris. she will wipe the floor with h him. >> he is an ideological
2:31 pm
nationalist. he can polish the stuff and make it see palatable to people. >> widely considered to be the most radical choice in terms of his ideological. >> he is distorted in his views and so was tromp. the two of them have that in common. >> he is unqualified. >> he would never stand for the constitution before he would stand for donald trump. >> the left is also pouncing on j.d. vance over comments he made that work critical for donald trump. he explained why he had a change of heart. >> i was skeptical in 2016. he was a great president and change the minds of a lot of americans. he delivered that peace and prosperity. if you go back to what i thought in 2016, i bought into the media's lies and distortions, that somehow he was going to be
2:32 pm
a threat to democracy. he did a really good job and i think it is a good thing when you see somebody, you are wrong about them, you ought to admit the mistake and admit that you are wrong. >> they say kamala harris is going to wipe the floor were j.d. vance by her own communications director, i don't know if we have the sound, says that j.d. vance is the biggest threat to her. we have it. take a listen. >> yeah, harold. >> j.d. vance would pose the greatest threat to kamala harris in some respects. he is an incredible debater, has a quality that makes him seem palpable to that one to 2% that might vote, that is undecided and will pay attention to the debates because most people don't pay attention to the
2:33 pm
debates. >> nicole or the communications director? >> that is why we have debates. there may be conversation about that. there are differences between j.d. vance and kamala harris. j.d. vance, democrats should not underestimate the sky. there are questions he's going to have to continue to answer about abortions, questionable and outrageous comments he has made about marriage and what people should do if they find themselves in a tough spot and some of his isolationist positions. having said that, he has a compelling story. i read hillbilly ideology and i thought it read well about the intersections between cultures and socioeconomical classes. it will be interesting to see how he evolved from there. he didn't like president trump at first. he now likes him. a difference of opinion. i hope he has that same mercy and grace he has to allow people
2:34 pm
to change their minds as well. i look forward to this debate. it is one americans are going to look forward to watching as w well. jeanie says it is interesting he said he said into the media lies. donald trump still chose him as his candidate, indicating he is for unifying. >> he read and heard all the horrible things about me and when he met me he realized i was just this beautiful, humble creature and now we have a deep love for each other as much as men can do. i think he is going to wipe the floor and they keep saying he is not qualified. was she a marine? did she go to the number one law school in the country? she went to hastings.
2:35 pm
does she have the number one best-selling book that was adopted into a smash hollywood hit? no. she has never been in the private sector. she rode the patronage mill to the top of california politics and that is not hard to coast into a senate seat as a democrat. j.d. had a competitive race in a battleground state in ohio, which he earned and she tapped him in a deal with bernie to get into the vp spot. he is going to do well. he is unflappable. advice about debating women. i have found that men should not yell at women when they debate them, or in private, all husbands would agree. doctors agree on this, when men yell out woman, they turn into women. you can see a man transition into a woman the more he yells at her. just don't yell, be calm.
2:36 pm
when jessica screams, i don't get upset. i let her go crazy. >> i am trying to decide. what you are saying is you don't need gender transitioning. just yell at a woman and you will turn into one. thank you for that. does the left have a crystal ball? they say vance is unqualified, he will never stand up for the constitution. didn't barack obama have the same qualifications when he ran from president? >> i have this to think about. they should debate august 12. biden is not going to be the candidate and the democrats don't know who they are going to put forward and they are not going to just anoint kamala harris, then why should j.d. vance agree to debate her
2:37 pm
before the convention? i don't think that is a good idea and that just came to me so maybe i am wrong on that. i haven't had a chance to think about it too much. she can be a sharp debater. especially when she is in a position of authority. she gored joe biden in that primary. she can't have a sharp word or two. i don't think that is a big match. i don't think this will be as big of an interest as the debate in 2008. between biden and sarah palin at the time. i will get the milk duds and popcorn for everybody but i don't think -- i wouldn't debate them before. i would not do it. >> jeanine: should they deb debate? >> greg: what happens to the revenge factor that we heard about?
2:38 pm
the media thinks they have this got you moment, where vance's past comments, but the argument is the same you get from failures. a failure of someone who cannot adjust their opinions in the face of reality. i have been proven wrong many times. i know it is crazy, but i love it. by correcting a faulty opinion, i get smarter. i was a fierce critic of trump but i came around as reality did not match my assumptions about him. my filter portrayed him as malicious but it made me lousy at predicting events and the people who liked him. to maintain never trumper in 2024, it is like the guy who won't quit smoking even though he has emphysema. look at the never trumpers who maintain they are always, eternally right.

they have never seemed more unhappy or bitter. they live a life where everyone has to be proven wrong to quench their need for vindication. look at the faces of kinsinger or the morning joe bunch or the lincoln project. these are not happy people. they have pain on their face. you look on the other side, it is a before-and-after photo. you have happy warriors free of this filter that leaves you bitter and resentful. it is like we've got it. we are free of this derangement that is only cater to an insecure ego. the never trumpers have so much sun can cost right now that they will go down with the ship. none of them have careers anymore. all right. that is me. more mind-boggling details on the security failure that almost cost trump his life. a local officer reported a
2:40 pm
suspicious person 30 minutes before the attempt. they stationed three snipers in the building whose roof had been used by the gunmen. rally goers noticed the would-be assassin was climbing the roof and screaming at cops a minute and a half before he opened f fire. >> someone is on the roof. there he is. right there. see him? >> he is on the roof. right here. flat on the roof. >> the secret service head honcho is giving an excuse as why there weren't snipers on the roof where the shooter was. >> i am the director of the secret service. it was unacceptable and something that should not happen again. that building has a sloped roof at its highest point and there is a safety factor that we would consider there. we would not want to put someone on a sloped roof. the decision was made to secure
2:41 pm
the building inside. >> do you plan to stay on? >> i do plan to stay on. >> and iranian plot to assassinate trump weeks before the deadly shooting. there is no indication these shootings are connected. are they going to investigate or are they worried they might run into sloped roofs? >> we have seen videos of snipers in afghanistan on rock cliffs like this. we have seen snipers in helicopters. sloped roof and you look at the sloped roof where they had a counter sniper team. she is admitting she almost got trump killed. they didn't have enough security. they did not have enough resources for the former president and they admitted this roof was a vulnerability and
2:42 pm
instead of putting guys on it, they put guys inside the building and you have all of these people calling in, radioing in, saying there is a guy with a range finder, a guy with a backpack acting suspicious and they don't detain him. they know he is on the loose and they don't make trump leave the stage. they let him hang out there like a sitting duck. the dad called 911 when he saw the shooting on tv. i thought the dad didn't know anything and how did the fbi, before they cracked into his phone say he acted alone. that doesn't make sense either. if you say they cracked into his phone now and there are no texts, phone calls, emails? he is a social media ghost? it doesn't make any sense. >> does this smell more of
2:43 pm
incompetence in communication? everything from 9/11 to the small things in life like customer service, it comes down to a lack of communication. >> they may not have been on the same channel, the same radios, it makes no sense. this is what we know, what has been reported. 30 minutes before, there was a sign of trouble. for sure, one minute and 27 seconds before they knew there was a guy on the roof with a g gun. at that point, he should have been removed from the stage. as soon and that was a reality and they knew about it. this woman is incompetent. for her to say, the sloped roof was a safety factor and that fed into our decision not to put somebody on the roof, are you
2:44 pm
stupid? here is the bottom line. her excuses don't add up and she intends to stay on? who gives you this confidence? maybe joe biden chose her, but joe biden does not know much about her because after this shooting, joe biden asked about the head of the secret service and says yeah, i have heard of him. it is a sheet, not a he. they upgraded security for donald trump when they heard about the irani and intelligence that there was going to be a kill attempt on donald trump. if they upgraded security before this kid shot the president and a 20-year-old punk is able to get on a roof with cops running all over the place and almost kill and open the skull of donald trump, how does this
2:45 pm
woman think she could keep her job. her own people should revolt against her. her own people, secret service was in jeopardy because she is incompetent because of her in action. >> what do you think, harold? is she being treated unfairly? you only have two choices. >> harold: there was a screw up here. i am not quite where the judge is in wanting to fire her. what i like is the buck stops here. what disgusted me outside of that, the police officer lied. she at least appears to be telling the truth. i want to understand better to your point. for about 20 minutes, they knew
2:46 pm
this guy was there. i hope the secret service chief will share with us all of these details. biden said they were going to conduct a full investigation. they said they would be transparent. i hope they do. procedures have to be reevaluated and we have to put stronger ones in. i would not fire her because of the mistake. i still think the jury is out. >> what about her saying the sloped roof is a safety factor. >> i don't know the procedure. >> the other guys were on a sloped roof. >> this shooter is on a sloped
2:47 pm
roof. it is not too dangerous for him. >> the iranians say they want to kill the president. look at this time line. the increased security for him but they miss this? this makes it worse. every question gets harder and the answers sound more unbearable than we are going to be able to accept. there is a september 10th mentality in this admini administration. investigating this as an act of domestic terrorism. how about the ones that were caught? i don't understand how she can say it is okay to have them inside the building. it is not sarajevo when they were hiding. the stage had been set.
2:48 pm
this is negligence, not just incompetence. >> i agree. we have a fox news alert. "the washington post" reporting president biden set to announce major support for supreme court reforms, which includes proposals to enforced term limits and an enforceable ethics code. biden told the caucus this. i am going to need your help on the supreme court because i am about to come out. i don't want to announce it, but i am about to come out with an initiative on limiting the court. i have been working with constitutional scholars and i need help. >> he is in such political trouble he is trying to throw the left anything that is going to make them support him.
2:49 pm
