reports of former president trump has been denied additional security over the last two years new information about how the event was coordinated. cb cotton is live with the latest and butler, pennsylvania. >> my colleague has confirmed with this source that the secret service did not attend day security meeting with local law enforcement on the day of the rally. my colleague source also tells him that the law enforcement outside of the security -- these were first reported by senator ron johnson this morning on "sunday morning futures". they, secret service director prepares to face tough questions from lawmakers tomorrow on capitol hill even though to our knowledge she has never been to the site of the assassination attempt on former president trump's life.

lawmakers told fox news the american people deserve transparency. >> the american people are restless. every american is outraged that we have a secret service with the budget and thousands of employees have failed to identify this threat to president trump. how many other threats are out there. >> the testimony will come as we learn more about the secret service and its security detail for the former president. in the two years leading up to the assassination attempt, members of the security detail were sometimes rejected after requesting more manpower and gear to screen people. details first reported by the washington post and prompting the secret service to acknowledge what people in trump 's inner circle have been saying for quite some time.

the agency telling fox news that in some instances where specific secret service, specialized units or special resources were not provided they made modifications to -- i am so sorry. there's something happening out here. the rally in butler, pennsylvania, was not one of the events where those resources were denied. trump security had been enhanced after u.s. intelligence learned of an iranian assassination plot against trump. lawmakers say these apparent security lapses during the trump campaign rally in butler, pennsylvania, make this entire situation even more puzzling. mike, i want to apologize for that disruption. a lot of people in this community are very upset. speculation about exactly what happened here during last week's rally.

rightfully so. including the request and direction to resources from state and local law enforcement. also, to ensure the effective implementation of that plan. there will be a lot that they have to explain. the director gets that opportunity tomorrow in front of congress. what i can tell you is this will lead to a larger discussion. the questions going that way which i recommend they do, the secretary of homeland security will have some explaining to do. the secret service has historically been asked to do more with less and that is unacceptable. if these resources based on request or threat level are not being provided because they just are not there to give, that is a huge problem.

it is not something that should hang entirely on the agency itself. it is time to ask hard questions they did not get the creation of dh as right at the first time. we should look to see if the secret service actually belongs within dhs. >> the buck stops with sec. mayorkas. >> we have added additional resources. to the department of homeland security. the secretary is in charge of that agency. if he needed to allocate more resources, that should have been done. >> not only will the secret service director be on the hot seat tomorrow, may your case at some point may be, to. >> i think that is fair game. the department of homeland security has been in crisis. how much attention has a secret

service been given by this administration the past three and a half years to make sure they have the capability to do their jobs. they have an important mission. it's important that they come out of this stronger and are given the tools to be effective in what the americans are asking them to do. >> protect former presidents, current presidents, very difficult to that. they are putting their lives on the line. it occurs to me, was it a failure to not hold up former president trump if they failed something was going on. >> there is no question about the devotion of the men and women in the secret service. you saw that unfold. between the threat and the former president. we note the motivation exists.

we know these men and women want to uphold the oath that they took prior to taking the jobs. the problem is the leadership creating the struggle in the processes to support and devotion to mission. everything will be under review, what happened in butler, pennsylvania, and it needs to be we have four investigations going on right now. we will get a lot of different looks at this. they should be supported by the department of homeland security to implement those recommendations and come out a much stronger agency. >> do you expect the secret service director to retire or resign? >> i think that those requests will come. she will have to articulate to congress about the decisions that were made that led to this. she is re- auditioning for her

>> again, i'm just curious where this is coming from. the only reason he would step down as because of medical reasons. you are one of the only people that has said he would be stepping down for political reasons. he has never said i don't think i best -- i'm not best for the party at this point. he would be putting our entire country at risk from a security standpoint medically. >> it's not just nefarious. listening to your constituents and people. >> that they will lose the senate and house. >> of course. how you're talking to people and how they are responding to the content. >> there is nothing nefarious about this. he has served this country for far too long. >> 50 years. >> not far too long. he has done. he has a son who died.
