6:25 am
stated it all comes down to the u.s. secret service and she has taken direct ownership of the failure, what occurred ten days ago. what i heard was four different lines of questioning from the congressmen and women and some of those questions dealt with operational security. others dealt with the ongoing criminal investigation. the third bucket was more or less quite frankly political grandstanding asking about gun control and ar-15 weapons and some were personal attacks on the director's character. i want to focus on the first two, though. the director has to be very careful talking about operational security of the u.s. secret service and ongoing protective missions. even though this attempted assassination occurred ten days ago it didn't stop the men and women of the secret service protecting 37 protectees, certain things she could or could not say could reveal what we do and how we do it.
6:26 am
we have to be cognizant our adversaries across the world were watching that testimony like our fellow americans were. a lot of those questions could be answered about operational security maybe behind closed doors to explain things a little further. secondly, the ongoing criminal investigation. that through a memorandum of understanding developed in 1978 between directors of the f.b.i. and secret service clearly states that in this type of instance the federal bureau of investigation will conduct said investigation. so though she was put in a tough spot, you know, couldn't directly answer any questions because it goes in law enforcement, you don't speak about an ongoing investigation and especially an ongoing investigation being conducted by another agency. i'm not defending her but stating -- i saw the testimony from a different point of view,
6:27 am
from a career in law enforcement. the question i had is chain of command. chain of command from the federal bureau of investigation leads to the attorney general. chain of command from the secret service leads to the secretary of dhs. where have those two individuals been the last ten days? those two individuals should be answering questions about the criminal investigation. we're calling it a criminal investigation, which is important if you are going to proceed with judicial action. but the shooter is dead. we can't prosecute a dead guy. so why don't we talk about certain things regarding the investigation now? i think the american people deserve that. >> bill: sir, thank you for sharing that. i think you have quite thoughtful in your answer. speed is very important for this investigation. speed to get answers to the american people so these crazy theories don't keep running down the road. why haven't we seen the gun? why haven't we seen the shell

casings? >> again, that is a question put forth by the memorandum of understanding with the secret service and f.b.i. a question that the f.b.i. would have to answer and hopefully the director can answer tomorrow during his testimony. but yes, those types of questions, i think, during these unprecedented times, you know, the american people deserve some answers but something i think the director of the f.b.i. should answer. >> bill: it seemed like she could have gone a lot further than she did and chose not to. >> dana: i would just think that -- i hear what you are saying. it's not like we don't have a ton of information already. we know the location, the spot. a couple of things she wouldn't answer if there was a second shooter. are you saying that she couldn't answer that because the investigation is ongoing and does that give you an indication that maybe there was or that he had help? >> no, i don't want -- that's one thing.
6:29 am
i think what needs to happen is some statements. that's what i'm saying about the ongoing criminal investigation, i get it. as i stated typically you have to protect that investigation if there is going to be further judicial action and prosecution. in this case, the individual is no longer with us so i think in these unique circumstances, some of the information should be able to be -- should be revealed to dispel a lot of these conspiracy theories that are out there, which quite frankly is not helpful to, you know, what is going on overall in this country. i think a lot of these things could be answered. >> bill: the last comment. it almost seemed at times yesterday she was stonewalling. tim, i don't think it does anyone any good. if that was her approach coming in, why not take your idea and meet with them behind closed doors and say we aren't ready for this hearing yet? yesterday did not give america
