your reaction? >> i am glad he did it. i can't imagine, we are not going to reward khalid sheikh mohammed and the 9/11 terrorists, not giving them the penalty they richly deserved. how the president could not be involved, or maybe he was, for the victims of 9/11 and their families. they are all connected ideas. america is not prepared to bring justice, we will get more terror like when we trade terrorists for hostages we will get more american hostages. they are deeply connected. we are in a dangerous place for the next few months with resident biden.

>> reporter: we've been reporting about the finger-pointing back-and-forth between the secret service and local law enforcement. the acting director of the secret service is taking full accountability saying it is our fault. regarding the critical radio transmission, secret service snipers did not have communication with local law enforcement, they tried to communicate there was a man on the roof with a gun but that message never made it to secret service. there was a report that senator josh hawley said that he previously cut secret service staffing for donald trump and here's his response to that question. >> i'm committed to pursuing accountability for the secret service's failure but let me be clear. if policy violations by secret service personnel are

>> appreciate that he came out and unequivocally said this is the full response ability of the united states secret service. of the beginning had a lot of back and forth between the us secret service and local law enforcement. what he was realizing, this was not going to to play out well for the secret service, anyone who has been a federal agent, locals are critical to your job. you can't do your job without that support. when you throw them under the bus, good luck next time. if you don't want our help we won't help you. that's not the right way to treat them. he took full ownership and that needs to continue and if you delegate responsibility to local law enforcement they need to understand this is the expectation and what we need you to do. no assumptions should be made. i hope that is what happens going forward.

we have to acknowledge accolades for local law enforcement. without them, federal agencies can't do their job. jacqui: there was a question whether anyone was going to be fired and he left it is an open question. i want to play what he said. >> these are internal investigations. we won't be able to provide real-time updates. these were thorough investigations. >> reporter: is that something the acting director should reconsider? if it's not a name but a number so people feel like accountability is happening? >> until they know someone is accountable this was a major failure. we want to know what happens.

they want to protect their own. the fbi office of responsibly, they do an investigation. he referred to it as mission assurance. if there's any violation people will be held accountable. not a lot of people get fired from federal agencies. when that occurred, americans will certainly know it. if there were violations, you have to have a 0 failure mission. if someone fails, there's got to be someone saying i own this. we have three other victims and it is unacceptable. jacqui: senator johnson said i suspect he knows who is responsible, maximum security failure, this was a cover-up. people not willing to take answers at face value.

what are your recommendations moving on from here and providing those assurances? >> transparency, a lot of people lost trust from the beginning. if there's no secret service representative available, there was radio silence for so long, a lot of people said you didn't answer our questions and you are not being honest and forthright. he was asked where were you directly involved, almost seemed like he was dancing around the answer, but i heard a mumble that i wasn't involved. we want to know what is the history here and things will never happen again. going forward i know for a fact i work these types of events, a lot of times countersurveillance, the preassessment team when resources are low, that something a whistleblower came

that are shipped to mexico, traffic is smuggled across the border at alarming rates almost exclusively by cartels and it's time for the us to get serious about combating the cartels, and the human trafficking they are pushing across the border. when it comes to cvp and interdiction, that's the last chance to stop this deadly poison from coming into the country. you've got to attack it further upstream and the administration, there's no strategy for this. when was the last time you see president biden or vice president harris talk to the american people how they are combating this fentanyl crisis and they don't talk about it. i would love the cvp officers and agents interdicting this but they are catching a small percentage.

griff: karine jean-pierre was mentioning fentanyl but it's one of these priorities for the nation, that should transcend politics regardless of the party or the administration. i asked in the recent arrest of the cofounder of the cartel responsible for the majority of the fentanyl coming into the country, would have an impact, most of them say no, business will go on. >> when we arrest the top leader of one of these cartels across the border, three or four more of the leaders pop up quickly. i agree with troy miller about the scourge of fentanyl and that's why there's got to be an intense focus, not just the dhs focus, but a department of

justice focus on how to combat going after these cartels in a way that will make a difference. it is time to stop admiring this problem and start coming up with solutions to directly attack it. griff: we got news on the humans, haitians, nicaraguans and venezuelans, the program for the administration to allow migrants to apply for a pathway has been positive, about the thoughts -- >> this is one of the hallmarks about the immigration system. the cbp parole and thousands of folks into the country every day and every week and every month and this tells us there's massive amounts of fraud in public reporting.
