do you say mornings are better with friends even though it was in the friends? >> brian: i think you just did. >> lawrence: mornings are better with friends. >> ainsley: today in north carolina vice president kamala harris is expected to roll out her economic agenda which is expected to include a ban on price gouging at our grocery stores and your favorite restaurant. >> will: madeleine rivera has more this morning. hi, madeleine. >> good morning. this is vice president's kamala harris first major policy initiative since president biden dropped out of the race. all eyes are on whether she will stick to president biden's approach or distance herself it from him. per the "new york times" economic plan she will release today will be relatively lining details. the strategy reflecting the advice from her aides to be clear in talking about the economy but avoiding being overly specific. the thinking behind that, reportedly is, that she can avoid attacks and also, perhaps, attract business groups turned off by president biden's policies. one of the details we do know, harris is set to announce a proposal to impose a federal ban

on price gouging on food and groceries. her campaign says she wants to enact that within her first 100 days in office. harris is accusing large retailers of keeping food prices high to secure record profits. according to the food industry association. profit margins in the grocery store industry hit 1.6% last year. that's the lowest level since 2019, when it was 1%. some economists think price controls aren't effective. >> no one has ever proven that the reason for high prices whether it's grocery prices or electricity prices. or oil and energy prices. no one has ever shown that corporate greed or price gouging has ever played a role in it. biden looked at this. he had a task force snivment the government. they came up with nothing. >> also expected it roll out proposal today targeting prescription drug and housing costs.

partnership, a lack of specifics on one hand. not knowing who she sand knowing her policies. when you do get some inkling of an idea who she is oh, you are for price controls. oh, wow, that's really -- take a moment and internalize that she is talking about price controls for the grocery industry in order to control inflation that is as far left of an idea as can you get price control. >> brian: that took her 25 days to come up with. >> ainsley: look at inflation from january 62021, which is when they took office, until this past june, a few months ago, gas was up 46%. gross up 21%. energy up 33%. day care up 16%. rent up 22%. car insurance 53%. and transportation up 36%. those are all things we have to have. families cannot afford to pay for all of these things. and this is not the grocery store. other than groceries up 21%. but gas and energy and day care

and rent and car insurance, this is inflation this is kamala harris and joe biden administration. donald trump yesterday was at bedminster e had a press conference. and he walked out and he talked for a little while. then he took questions. and he compared this to a communist country. listen to this. >> kamala's reportedly proposing communist price control. she wants price controls. and if they worked, i would go along with it, too. they don't work. they actually have the exact opposite impact and effect. but it leads to food shortages, rationing, hunger, dramatically more inflation. their inflation rucket act by the way was a disaster. it's what caused the inflation, their inflation reduction act was con john. we call it the maduro plan like something straight out of venezuela or the soviet union. this announcement is an admission that her economic policies have totally failed and caused really a catastrophe for our country.

and, beyond that, a catastrophe in the world. >> brian: if you look at those horrible supermarkets which i have always said they are the worst. being facetious. profit march i didn't know 1.6%. all the other industry 8.5%. why wouldn't did you go into the freezer section of a supermarket do you think these are the bad guys? i mean, look at these graphs? there is no indications that they are price gouging at the supermarkets. it doesn't work to their advancement. in fact, i think there is 300 stop and shops going out of business. i mentioned this on wednesday, but i forgot ask if i could use his name but this person i know very well has over 50 supermarkets. he had to get mad of a his managers. you have not marked up enough. we are losing money on these products on a daily basis. and for you to sit there behind the podium and blame corporations, not only is it inaccurate. but it creates tension in

society. now you are going to go to that guy with the smock on or pocket protector you are the reason i can't pay my bills. >> lawrence: the part i also don't understand is when you talk about how things are bad right now, one of the talking points from the administration is the recovery from covid. they keep telling us that. yet, they won't acknowledge that the businesses are also still recovering from covid when it was shut down. the second thing is. >> brian: supply chain. supply chain, energy costs. >> lawrence: brian, the second thing is after they decide this massive plan if she gets elected, what happens if all thieves employers start laying off. >> ainsley: exactly. >> lawrence: these employees. are you going to account for that when that unemployment rate begins to tank again? are they going to -- you are robbing peter to pay paul. >> will: you are offloading blame as well. blame is directly to the policies of the biden administration. you can't look at what happened under the biden administration, you can see the economy and all

the different effects it's h you see the price increases have gone up 19.4%. real wages and benefits have fallen 2.9%. inflation 2% above the federal reserve's target, it's outpaced pages for more than two years. interest rates in a response to inflation. at the highest levels in almost 20 years. and this is the part when everybody says oh, the economy. there has been job growth. joe biden and kamala tried to brag about bidenomics. i think those last two figured are part of what really makes people say. >> lawrence: 100 percent. >> feel good. credit card debt and personal savings at the lowest rate. that is what everybody is spending what they don't have to maintain a cost of living. >> ainsley: smirk not stupid. we know what saying. it's not my fault. it's the grocery store's fault. >> brian: exactly like that. >> ainsley: we have been showing her like this and brian keeps doing. this. purple hair. >> no tongue piercings. >> brian: when normal is weird again. that should be our slogan. >> lawrence: maybe we will change it. so some real news. four suspects are now being charged in connection with with the murder of general hospital star johnny wactor he was killed in may after trying to stop thieves from stealing the catalytic converter in his car. >> brian: brooke singman is here. >> brooke: three suspects between 18 and 22 charged with murder. fourth charged as accessory to the crime. jail records show the four suspects are being held in lieu of a $2 million bail. yesterday, los angeles police searched through several locations obtaining additional evidence which led to the arrest. according to the "los angeles times," law enforcement sources say police were focusing the investigation on gang members with ties to catalytic converter thefts in the area. no word yet if those suspects are involved in a gang.

two doctors charged in the ketamine overdose that kilpery. agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy and drug distribution charges that includes perry's long time personal insistent who injected him with the deadly dose. drug dealer jazz mean xanga who authorities refer to as the ketamine queen was also arrested and arraigned in court yesterday. ice arresting a peruvian gang leader near buffalo new york who was wanted in his home country for 23 murders. the leader of the lois killer's gang entered the u.s.s. illegally in texas on may 16th when he was arrested and then released with a notice to appear. he reportedly fled peru after exilg a retired police officer. he was arrested alongside his girlfriend who peruvian authorities say played the prominent role in his gang. this is concerning. millions of social security numbers may be at risk as nearly 3 billion records were reportedly stolen in a massive

hack. according to reports, members of the hack group usdod shared most of the data on online forum. the group offering to sell the information which includes addresses, phone numbers, and social security numbers. a suit filed in florida claims the data was stolen from background check company national public data. who did confirm the breach. here's an update on american gymnast jordan chiles speaking out after stripped of bronze olympic ma medal when the romann gymnastic team challenge would her final score she says i am overwhelmed by the decision i received this decision feels unjust and comes as a significant blow. i will approach this challenge as i have others and make every earth to ensure that justice is done. i believe at the end of this journey the people in control will do the right thing. officials ruled to give the medal to romanian.

as we are expecting the impacts to really be seen more so tomorrow. largely though, what you are looking at here, is a system that stays off the u.s. east coast. it doesn't mean there will be no impacts. it's going to be far enough away you are not going to see real significant impacts other than waves. expecting deadly rip currents, folks going to the beaches the next couple of days you certainly need to be careful. a big storm out at sea that is going to push up the currents quite a bit. looking at waves here at the peaks, 6 to 9 feed up along the coast. good size waves. certainly dangerous. of course we are also going to be keeping our mind on bermuda as we could be seeing what might be a landfall storm coming here in the next day or so. those are your weather headlines for now. lawrence, throwing it over to you. >> lawrence: adam, unless you are a pro-none of that is surfing. leave it to the pros. thanks, adam. so, vice president kamala harris is set to roll out her economic plan today during a speech in north carolina. but as she reportedly plans to distance herself from biden in the three and a half years of inflation. let's take a look back at some

excessive profits. she is going to clamp down, talk down, government down on inflation it's not going to work a new form of populism. actually taking her administration further to the left from the biden-harris administration. it doesn't work. we have tried this in the 1970s, it leads to shortages. it does not control inflation. it does not cut prices. it's going to be a failure. but it's a lurch to the left. that's what we have to remember. that's what she is coming up with. >> lawrence: she is supposed to be moderating her positions. look back prices have increased 9 #%. real wages and benefits have fallen nearly 3%. inflation outpaced wages for 25 straight months. and there's an over a trillion dollars in credit card debt. but everything is going well. >> stuart: it's not. she should take some responsibility for the inflation we saw. her response, it is her responsibility. she cast a tying vote for the

winning vote on the massive increase in spending. $1.9 trillion. chucked into the economy, coupled with trillions of dollars worth of money, printed by the federal reserve. that created the inflation. >> lawrence: what is it going to -- if kamala harris is elected and americans already going through a lot right now. what is her policies going to do for the economy? >> for the economy? i think it will suppress it. i think you will get to a recession. that's not the way -- she is going to spend some more money, which will be inflationary in and of itself. she is going to regulate the economy, which is not going to help the economy at all. she is going to go for a wealth tax, tax the rich. tax big corporations. tax corporations to the max. that's not going to do the economy any good at all. it's already slowing down. if she is elected president and imposes that kind of policy, you really will go into a recession. >> lawrence: wow. our colleague, edward lawrence at fox business got an opportunity to ask president
