20 or 30 seconds, so hopefully we will get something from him on this. as i mentioned before, the fbi is doing a criminal probe we want to know from the attorney general is the fbi possibly looking at a potentially -- or the doj charging someone criminally and this i think will be the next step to find out how many more people from the secret service were placed on leave and not even on leave, potentially just fired. >> bill: wow. >> dana: all helping us get through some breaking news here as we have secret service agents now being placed on leave during this investigation. and we wait to get more detail on that. >> bill: that's a way to end the week. >> dana: book and the conventions, right? we started off with this news before the rnc. >> bill: 41 days ago. >> dana: is incredible. great to be with you this morning. a >> bill: you too and see you back in new york. >> dana: john roberts' and for harris, john. >> john: fox news alert, at

least five secret service members put on leave into the investigation on the assassination attempt on president trump more than just a little a month ago. from the pittsburgh field office including the special agent in charge. it was the pittsburgh field office that backfield a lot of the security at that butler, pennsylvania, event. the other person put on leave, a member of trump's personal protective team who we saw leap into action after shots were filed. this is "the faulkner focus," i am john roberts and for harris, popping off on secret service director ronald rowe last month, listen to this. >> if this happened in the military, a lot of people would be fired. and if a lot of people are not fired, the system failed yet again. having said that, the people who were brave and jumped on the stage to protect the president need to be applauded, we need to learn what happened, and make

corrective action, but somebody has to be fired. nothing is going to change until somebody loses their job. >> john: cb cotton here with more on the breaking news. what do we know? >> this alarming news that that several secret service agents have been placed on leave also comes with more alarming details we are learning from this day. federal sources have told the justice correspondent david spunt that the iranian assassination plot on former president trump's life was communicated internally within the secret service private prior to the butler/pennsylvania rally, so why the rally was allowed to go forward. and news that five total secret service agents have been placed on leave comes on the heels of several whistle-blower allegations released from lawmakers to the public. republican senator josh hawley has been very instrumental in this. and early august he said he
8:03 am
learned from a whistle-blower that the lead site agent failed to implement various security protocols, holly wrote two acting service members wrote back on august 5th that that whistle-blower told him the lead site agent allowed to materials such as flags and other items to be permitted around the stage and catwalk and this would have caused line of sight issues for the agents responsible for identifying threats. and also said he learned from the whistle-blower that the secret service did not check ids when issuing credentials to those who authorize access to restricted areas of the site. and josh hawley's was told also that the iss agency was told by this whistle-blower that the agents who were at the event had told other people they had never staffed a rally before. so these are all details that came out in the aftermath of the assassination attempt and we know that the culmination of this is several secret service agents being placed on leave. and so i think, you know, this

all comes on the heels of a bipartisan congressional visit to the rally site. we will be there on scene as lawmakers continue to probe what went wrong and who ultimately needs to be held accountable for the apparent security lapses. don. >> john: cb cotton with the latest on all of that. it digging deeper into all of this, let's bring them republican congressmen and member of the judiciary, the rules and the budget committees. a lot of people say it is shocking that these five members of the secret service were purred on leave, a lot of people would say why did this not happen weeks ago, what do you say? >> it's a great question, right? 41 days removed from the president states and the republican party nomination. who got shot, he was literally shot by the grace of god it was not a life-threatening wound. and we find out that the very same secret service that was immediately pointing their fingers at local

law enforcement, they have five of their guys, i think it's five, whatever the number today announced that are on leave after getting rid of cheadle. but you have local law enforcement as we have seen from the body cam footage, gosh, we told those guys, expletive, expletive, we told those guys to post some guys on the roof, to post them in the right place, we now know that we have a drone flying literally within 200 feet of the podium, the same day that president trump was they are. they did not post anybody on the water tower, or anyone up on the rooftop where they needed to be. they did not have their own drones flying, they did not have answers of local law enforcement saying we have a guy here with a range fighter and he looks suspicious and they did not do anything about it. so this is why a few of us are going to have our own hearing on monday in washington with two former snipers, corey mills, eli crane who was obviously the navy seal. two great americans, a few of us, andy biggs, myself, and we will have dan bongino, eric
8:06 am
prints one of the counter's neighbors and do that hearing on monday to try to get to the bottom of it running in parallel with mike johnson's task force with our good friends clay higgins and mark green on it. >> john: let me ask you about that, because it's being described as a "rogue task force going around speaker johnson" they are saying the more light you shine on this the better. >> yes, that's our goal. when you have two people of the caliber of cory mills and eli greene, i'm just going to go along and so former prosecutor to be there and try to elicit information. the american people deserve the truth. 41 days later it's taken too long to get to the bottom of the fact that the former president of the united states again was shot. we cannot let that just slide away. it's not incompetence. the incompetence is extraordinary. the dei and secret service, the fact that they did not have people there and all the stuff i just talked about, all in confidence, but it starts to look like willful blindness and the fact that they actually did not want to have all of the right assets there. we need to get to the bottom of
8:07 am
it and seek the truth wherever it may lead, that's what monday is about. and this is in parallel to mike johnson's task force. this is not a criticism of that. this is seeking the truth with experts like cory mills and eli crane and people are talking about. >> john: the president was shot, thankfully he turned his head at the last second. he held up that graph and said, this is the graph that saved my life. but at the same time that the president was there showing the graph that was saving his life, the co-chief's county sheriff and sheriff's department from neighboring counties were looking for this guy ronald steinberg who had threatened to kill trump. is this the new normal, congressman? in coming to fruition as we saw in pennsylvania and as we saw yesterday. god bless president trump to get out there and lead and go to the

border, dude it irrespective of these reports we had that someone was trying to attack them and kill them. and god bless the local law enforcement for doing the job of the federal government. guess what, it's not just with respect to secret service, it's a border. it's local law enforcement in arizona and texas doing the job of kamala harris and joe biden's failed regime that have allowed now still over 100,000 people to be encountered in june and july. just last week we learned that there was an individual in buffalo who has killed 23 people in peru who was released into the united states. president trump had the moms of people who were victims. he had alexis, the mom of jocelyn, the 12-year-old killed in texas. obviously we know about laken riley and all of the others but how many americans have to die? and by the way, thank you for your reporting on all of the fentanyl deaths. i know you have an upcoming report on that. i was with her mom last night in hays county, texas, where live. a good friend, janelle rodriguez
8:09 am
and her son died from fentanyl poison. six and the school district i live. at the hands of kamala harris in any republican out there, by the way, hand-wringing about president trump now, step up right now i make sure that we went back in november and make sure our borders are secure, americans don't die. and by the way, 320,000 migrants on top of the 85,000 migrant children who have been lost, they say that they are pro-immigrant, they are kids. they are being given back to the human traffickers in these cartels who are trying to kill them. it is mind-numbing we are in the state of affairs. >> john: on the fentanyl topic, you are looking at the godfather fence and all, who in wichita, kansas, cracked the code for how to make street kent noll and the havoc that wreaked on america. but of course, we are always reporting on a daily basis, the tragedy of fentanyl coming across the southern border. congressman, thank you for being with us. we appreciate it. >> thanks, john, god bless you.
8:10 am
>> john: on the phone with us now, fbi assistant director. are you surprised it took this long for news of administrative leave to come out? >> no, everything the secret service has done since this incident occurred has been sluggish and a day late and a dollar short. and i know the civil service system, i served in it for quite a while, you can suspend people really quickly if there is a reasonable basis to do so. and here's the thing, i hate to see low-level people take the hits here. i know there are mistakes made right there on the site by lower-level secret service agents, but you have to get up to the high level. when things are this sloppy and this poorly executed, you know, this can't be an isolated incident. this is a leadership of high-level leadership issue and i want to see high-level leadership people, not just the field office out of pittsburgh,
8:11 am
but people at headquarters. you don't get to this state without having poor training and poor leadership. >> john: so let's talk about -- i don't know if they are actual suspensions or placed on leave, four from the field office including the special agent in charge. i would expect that the site survey was done by folks from the pittsburgh field office, but what do you make of the fact that a member of the presidents -- former president's personal protective detail was placed on leave as well? do you see anything and how they responded? that would require a person to be put on leave? >> well, yes, they were heroic for themselves on president trump and using their bodies as shields. you have to give them not to. but he was on that stage for 90 seconds after the first shot was fired. this was an amateur. if this had been a professional assassination attempt or even reasonably confident individual,
8:12 am
they would have taken them out on the second shot. and they basically on the stage keyed him up, his head was exposed, his body was exposed and you just can't do that. i know from my experiences with the secret service and more recent conversations with secret service agents, their job is to get the protect the out of the danger zone immediately, like they did with ronald reagan and throwing him unceremoniously into the car. and he was none in charge at that point, they were. he did not want to leave the stage and he got his moment and then good for him, but that never should have happened. >> john: are you suggesting that secret service protective detail agent who might have allowed him to stop for a second, pause and address the crowd, that might have been caused to be placed on leave? >> someone placed in that immediate detail, whoever was in charge of getting them off the stage, that particular onstage
8:13 am
detail is probably one of the suspend he is. >> john: all right, chris, thank you so much for joining us. we appreciated as we follow the breaking news here. and we remember the video from james cope and hager who is one of the two people who was gravely wounded and not shooting. he has captured images of somebody on that roof where the shots came from. it was about 3 minutes before the shots actually were fired. and nobody spotted him at least it was in position to take him out, so that's all going to be part of the investigation as well. a presidential candidate shake-up expected to happen just hours from now. how all possible rfk jr. exit from the race could impact those tight swing state races. plus vice president harris acceptance speech was short on policy, but lots of name checks. president trump with both conventions in the rearview mirror and she will have to prove she has more than not trump. our power panel on that coming up next.

if he does endorse trump, it will be a slight advantage, exactly where? we don't know. in a close race it could be positive. spew an average pole, showing kennedy sits between four and 6% and all battleground states. the harris campaign with this. >> rfk was obviously funded in large part by maga donors, so i don't think it will be a surprise to us if he formally endorses donald trump today. >> john: in focus now, joe concha, so if kennedy does what is expected, what do you expect that the overall impact could become a joke? >> i think, john, this could be a game changer, quite frankly. it wipes away almost all of the momentum that we are seeing outs of the convention, and think about it for a second. just looking at history here, but when you look at 2016, jill stein, green party candidate was

pulling at maybe 1 percent in that race family know that she took away enough votes, and hillary clinton will say this herself, took enough votes in places like pennsylvania, michigan, wisconsin to make the difference in that race. if trump does not win those blue-all states, he is not the 45th president, and rfk jr.'s four, six times higher in support for voters supporting him. so that's going to be the case, well, even if it's a majority of voters at 60%, we will call it a go to donald trump, that makes all the difference in the world and democrats only have themselves to blame, because they cast him aside just like they cast aside the tulsi gabbard's of the world, the joe manchin's of the world, because they did not toe the party line 100%. and now that may come back to bite them, john. >> john: also tossing away marianne williamson who will be joining me later in our program this afternoon. writing a piece for foxnews.com about the rfk jr. voters and how they could cause

an earthquake in this election saying "two there is a type of undecided voter i have discovered, a group that is sound of the kennedy clan might have some sway over. this group simply does not trust that trump and the republicans or vice president kamala harris and the democrats are truly capable of bringing about change. these americans, the small but significant group more consistently and by far to bring up rfk jr. as a possibility and it really has nothing to do with the policy prescriptions. which raises the question, joe, if the folks who were supporting kennedy simply did not want to support trump or biden or kamala harris, do they go to either one of those candidates if they release them? or do they just say, okay, we will sit on the sidelines? >> john, i think that some probably will sit on the sidelines, but some want their voices heard and may be respect robert f. kennedy jr.'s

endorsement and him saying this is the guy you have to go with if you bring the change i would bring if i was the candidate. overall it is because he is an outsider, and he has never held any office whatsoever, and the kennedy name carries some weight, and then there are things like rfk jr. does support tax cuts. does support his position on the border, and it seems like rfk jr.'s positions at least in those two bake areas and those are the biggest issues with the campaign, align more with trump then with kamala harris, and they do have some resentment towards this party ousting either joe biden or making sure robert f. kennedy jr. was not on some ballots, was not at the debates and most important lien i think that, did not get secret service attention until after the assassination attempt on donald trump. that spoke volumes, quite frankly. >> john: he was bitter about that as well, definitely felt there was a threat against him and a lot of talk that if

kennedy was to endorse trump there would be a policy job in it for him, maybe even a cabinet position, we'll see. the liberal media, joe, spent two days fawning over the dnc with countless headlines gushing over the event. one called kamala harris' closing speech "forceful." the other said it electrified democrats. praising the overall messaging is a huge success and claim the convention made "an impossible job look easy." listen here. >> she was steely, she was strong, she was energetic. >> this building has seen a lot, michael jordan won three championships in here. they've had some electric night spirit >> it does seem that democrats are trying to corner the market on joy and hope. i mean michelle obama herself said hope is making a comeback. >> this is where governor walz just spoke. >> the room in here in terms of our little crowd at msnbc mothership, everybody got out of their seats and started stamping and clapping and oh, my god, i can't believe this.

>> john: former first lady michelle obama was a keynote speaker, "the new york times" with the headline "michelle obama suits the moment." lots of words on her outfit, calling it understated and edgy, kind of arboreal, this was going to be a fight, it said. praising former president obama's thai choice, claiming it shows he is now a man above the political fray. also with a piece on kamala harris' tan suit surprise that says the point is patriotism and the most obvious sense. i worked as a sort of curtain raiser and tone setter for the convention. you know, donald trump is not just going to face kamala harris' campaign. he is going to face the combined might of the mainstream media in this campaign. >> i mean, john, once you thought the media could not debase themselves any further, apparently rock bottom has a basement and we hit it during the past week with some of these headlines, right? and you show them from

"the washington post." did you know "the washington post" has never endorsed a republican presidential candidate in its history? that's hard to do. that means you say mondello is our guy or carry is our guide, and "the new york times" has not endorsed a republican presidential candidate since 1956 which is a very long time ago. so to see these headlines -- humphrey, mcgovern. exactly. spiel between now and november the 5th, is this what we are going to see? coverage for kamala harris and critical coverage for donald trump, because there was a study in which you found 80% of the coverage of kamala harris was positive, and 80 something percent of the coverage of trump was negative. >> 84 positive for trump, 89 for speed nine negative. this was a festiva's confession doing an convention, from the media and from democrats, airing

grievances and then marinated in joy, all icing, no cake, if we are talking about platitudes versus substance. you look at the transcript for example, on night one, donald trump's name was said 160 times on that state. night two, 60 times, night three, 94 times, and during the final night during kamala harris' address alone, she had them 15 times. so let's get to the cake, how many times with substance talked about? night one come the border was said eight times. all it was mentioned. on night to only mention five times, and when it was mentioned, they blamed trump for the crisis, not the ones that democrats created. so overall, you'll never guess how often kamala harris for example broached inflation in her speech on thursday night. 0.0. and that's a number one issue. she also did not bring up, by the way, whatever happened to price gouging, price-fixing cornerstone of your economic plan, madam vice president, because i disappeared from the entire convention outside of elizabeth warren. so again, where's the beef to go back to the '80s, i guess i
