moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc7 news. >> mcnamara is a common thug. as you can tell by the language used in his text messages. clapping people. smoking people. that is not language that is used by police officers as harsh criticism from attorneys for the man shot by a san jose police officer last year. >> the responding to news that the officer is no longer with the department and the racially charged text messages that ultimately cost him his job. thanks for joining us. i'm j.r. stone. we're learning more about a growing controversy involving racist texts sent by the now former officer where they were sent in response to a lawsuit over the shooting of a black man last spring. tonight we're hearing from that victim and his civil rights attorneys. they're demanding officer mark mcnamara face criminal charges. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has details. >> it pretty much hurts me and

it scares me to know how much hate a person can have in their heart. >> 22 year old keon green reacting to newly discovered racist texts sent by a former san jose police officer who shot him last spring outside la victoria. taqueria where green says he disarmed someone involved in a fight. >> i feel like the hero of the situation that took place on march 27th. >> officer mark mcnamara shot green as he was backing out of the restaurant with a confiscated gun in a newly surfaced text dated the day after the shooting, mcnamara wrote to fellow officers, was in, wanted to carry a gun in the wild, wild west, but not on my watch. the shooting sent green to the hospital, where he faced a long recovery, forced to take a break from his football career at contra costa college, his attorney adante pointer, says the racist texts are the final insult. >> these were disgusting text messages, vile text messages and

some of the texts, mcnamara said. >> i'm pretty sure the district attorney would have charged me if i used excessive force. but she didn't because i didn't use excessive force. i'll shoot you too. mcnamara said of green's legal team. they should all be bowing to me and bringing me gifts. otherwise he would have lived a life of poverty and crime. in another text writing that he hates black people. mcnamara resigned from the sfpd last week after the text surfaced. lawyers are demanding mcnamara be charged with a hate crime and be desert fied as a police officer, you have allowed an avowed racist cop an opportunity to go and seek employment in another community just to terrorize another person on another day. >> i never thought somebody could just have that much hatred in their heart to where they would want to kill me just because of what i look like. >> san jose mayor matt mehan says his city has a zero tolerance for racial bias.

>> we are not going to tolerate racism. we are going to continue to working hard every day to build a culture of the utmost respect and professionalism within our department. >> green says he's moving forward, hoping to achieve his dream. >> in football, i'm still hoping to make it to the nfl. >> cornell bernard, abc7 news. >> fish and wildlife officers continue their search this evening for a wolf hybrid spotted twice this weekend in sonoma county. both sightings were captured on video. this is the most recent incident. the animal was seen trotting down the road along highway 12 at south wright road in sebast apple early this morning. yes today, what's believed to be the same wolf hybrid was recorded on a doorbell camera at a home a few miles away in santa rosa. >> come look at this dog. literally it looks like a wolf. it's hard to see in that video,

but it was across the street there. >> authorities say the animal crossed paths with two people who are walking their dogs but was not aggressive towards the humans or the animals. multiple local agencies are now involved in the search. officers say if you see the animal, do not approach it. now now to the latest in the israel hamas war. another israeli airstrike has hit the jabalia refugee camp in the central gaza strip. the un now says that half of the hospitals in gaza are no longer functioning. us secretary of state antony blinken met with the palestinian authority president mahmoud abbas in a surprise visit to the west bank. the biden administration now says that it supports a humanitarian pause, but stopping short of calling for a cease fire. i think everyone would welcome humanitarian pauses, there's no doubt about that. >> there are obviously different views, including on the question of the cease fire. but there's no doubt from my conversations with all of our colleagues who

are in amman yesterday, that everyone would welcome a humanitarian pause. >> israel's prime minister says there will be no cease fire unless all israeli hostages are are released. new at six. we're following this developing story in san carlos. a couple of hundred pro-palestinian protesters are gathering outside the hiller aviation museum. that's where a group called friends of the israeli defense forces are holding a fundraising gala tonight. the group says the event celebrates 75 years since the establishment of israel. protesters are chanting as attend these arrive and there have been some contentious moments. a police swat team is on the scene and controlling the crowds to make sure that things don't get out of hand. certainly more on that tonight at 11:00. happening tomorrow, jury selection begins for the federal trial of the man charged with attacking nancy pelosi's husband, paul last october. surveillance video showed david depape breaking into the pelosi

home and eventually striking paul in the head with a hammer. the pap has been charged with federal attempted kidnaping and assault along with a slew of charges in state court. that trial date won't be set until after the federal trial finishes. here are some of the key dates for his federal trial. jury selection begins tomorrow, november 6th. opening statements are expected thursday, november 9th. there will be no court on friday, the 10th. paul pelosi is scheduled to testify in court on the 13th. at last check, nancy pelosi is also expected to be named a witness and the federal judge in this case expects the trial to last one week. still ahead, help for those involved in the fight of their lives. the local agency working to make sure no one battles cancer alone . >> i'm spencer christian. it is raining at the golden gate. i'll give you a closer look at the bay area's wet weather when i come back with the accuweather seven day forecas

done in time for the monday morning commute. the three mile stretch of deteriorate roadway is being repaved. crews laid new concrete just last night and once dry, they'll clean up and paint the stripes on. they've condensed 40 nights of work into just a weekend. this construction is just one phase of a three year project of fixing roads and adding lanes. a key part of building a better bay area is highlighting the efforts to make it happen. that includes a local center that ensures no one battles cancer alone or the latinas contra cancer center in santa clara county provides crucial bilingual and bicultural support to people facing cancer, especially in the latino community. since 2003, the center has educated more than 7500 individuals about cancer, leading to hundreds of preventable screenings and many early detections. the organization has trained more than 200 community health educators throughout california, texas and florida. abc7 news

anchor stephanie sierra spoke with the organization's executive director, darcy green, about ways they're serving patients at no cost. >> cancer does affect everyone differently, of course, and aside from the emotional and physical toll, it's traumatizing to lose your hair. can you tell us about your wig boutique and how it's helping people deal with that? >> what we offer here, a wig and prostheses boutique. it's a wonderful space. everything is at no cost to the community. the wonderful person that we have who's staffing it is a former client of our organization. as well. and folks can come in here to our prostheses boutique, be waited on know that there is nothing we would rather do than serve them in that moment and receive mastectomy, garments, wigs and fittings in this space. all at no cost. all in english and in spanish, and in a way that really honors and respects our culture and the cancer journeys that we go through. >> the latinas contra cancer center has convened six national latino cancer summits, bringing

clocks entirely tiktok are shining a light on how annoyingly dark our afternoons become when daylight saving time goes away. this time of the year, how much daylight could we possibly need to save? >> it's 5:16 p.m. it's pitch black outside. what the. >> are you serious right now? >> daylight saving time was implemented. 105 years ago as a way to save on energy consumption during world war one. but decades of clock clashing followed. congress repealed it. president wilson vetoing the repeal because he liked to golf. and at one point in may of 1965, the twin cities were keeping two totally different times. then in 1966, president johnson signed the uniform time act. the american medical association says all that changing of the clocks comes with potential risks. >> any change that affects your sleep, cumulative over time can with it bring all the detrimental effects of sleep loss. so that can include mood disorders, loss of focus, loss

of judgment and even some long term issues such as changes in your blood pressure, your blood sugar. >> last year, the us senate unanimously passed the sunshine protection act, which would make daylight saving time permanent, meaning more daylight in the evening hours all year long. but the act didn't pass in the house and never made it to president biden's desk. now that bill is still in congressional limbo. so that was abc's will ganss reporting. >> spencer i was ready to talk all about daylight saving time, but we actually have rain all across the area happening right now is moving in right now. >> it just dropped down from the golden gate into san francisco. so let me show you a live doppler seven. you can see where it is and where it is not raining right now. so we've got sort of scattered showers, although some of those showers may be briefly heavy, but you can see much of the area is dry right now. so i'll give you a bigger picture of this in just a moment. here's the view from our exploratorium camera across the embarcadero from our studio, looking across, looking toward the bay bridge. it is 65 degrees

here in san francisco right now. oakland, 66, low 70s mountain view in san jose, 68, palo alto, 59. half moon bay. you can see it's wet at the golden gate. the pavement is wet. and i think you can see raindrops falling there. it's been raining there for a few minutes now. we have mid 60s at santa rosa novato, napa, fairfield and livermore. concord, 69 degrees. and one more live view looking across the quiet and so far dry embarcadero. these are our forecast headlines. scattered showers and light rain will continue overnight. pockets of showers and rain. more rain will come tomorrow, probably more widespread. it'll be slippery. a slippery commute in the morning and in the evening tomorrow. and we expect drier days midweek with chilly mornings. now, the storm we're looking at right now on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale is a level one. so for tonight and tomorrow, again, periods of showers and light rain, less than a quarter of an inch of rain in most areas. slippery roads and breezy conditions. and overnight, as we check out the forecast animation, we get a little bit of a break during the late night hours into the early, early

morning. but by about 5 or 6 a.m, we'll see more showers developing mainly in the north bay early on and then later in the day, pushing southward across all parts of the bay area and winding down late tomorrow night. we expect rainfall totals to be generally under a quarter of an inch. but over a third of an inch likely at novato. and yountville. so the north bay once again getting the heavier activity and a little bit of snow will fall in the sierra about 1 to 2in by about 11:00 tomorrow night. but we're not talking about a major snow event . overnight lows mainly mid to upper 50s highs tomorrow. low 60s at the coast only mid to upper 60s. elsewhere and here's the accuweather seven day forecast. it will start drying out on tuesday. a little bit milder on wednesday but then partly cloudy on thursday. getting a little bit cooler toward the end of the week and more rain is likely next friday. >> now abc seven sports with chris alvarez as the 40 niners were off on the bye week but they still moved back into first place in the nfc west. >> we'll show you how that happened in a moment. but first provided the niners win, the nfc west, they'll battle with the
