through petaluma, penngrove into santa rosa. so 101, highway 12, it is slow. go this morning with wet roadways. well widen out the picture. had a couple of lightning strikes near willits. that's something we'll watch as the morning goes on. not out of the question. we could have isolated thunder showers this morning across a portion of the region. it's a cold front that is slowly making its way south. so all of this rain right now in the north bay will march its way through the city, the east bay and the south bay as the morning goes on. so we do bring in the exclusive abc7 storm impact scale this morning. it is a level one light storm with scattered light showers, slick roads is your biggest issue as the commute gets underway. so here's future weather. we'll find those isolated showers through 8 a.m, continuing through 10 a.m. and then right around lunchtime, we should see the wet weather ending the sunshine breaking out for a dry and brighter second half of the day. temperatures though, on the cool side, mainly in the 60s. that's weather. let's see how we do on those roads this morning with jobina. good morning. good morning, drew. >> thank you. hi, everyone. so we are starting with week five of this issue at the richmond, san rafael bridge. and you can see that we have some slick

pavement in the area as well. we have the three westbound lanes on 580 blocked right now. no wide load vehicles allowed in this area and still no update as to when all of that will reopen. we also have a fog advisory issued for the golden gate bridge at the moment from our cameras. it doesn't show that visibility is too bad in that spot. and for our drive times, we have to slow sections for the early commute. tracy to dublin, 37 minutes and dublin and mission boulevard is going to be 13 minutes as we travel southbound on 680. kumasi. thank you. >> jobina. a former san jose police officer is now under intense scrutiny after racist text messages were made public and it all centers around the now former officers shooting of a black man last spring. abc7 news reporter lena howland has more from the victim and his civil rights attorneys who are now demanding criminal charges. lena officer mark mcnamara resigned from the department last week after some of these messages surfaced. >> lawyers are now demanding that this officer be charged with a hate crime and decertified as a police officer.

about a dozen texts attributed to mcnamara referenced a 2022 incident in which then officer mcnamara shot football player kawan green outside of san jose's la victoria taqueria. video showed green had appeared to have broken up a fight inside of the restaurant and was backing out of a door holding a gun he had confiscated from one of the suspects in some of the texts, mcnamara said, i'm pretty sure the district attorney would have charged me if i used excessive force. but she didn't because i didn't use excessive force. all shoot you too? mcnamara said of green's legal team. texting they should all be bowing to me and bringing me gifts. otherwise he would have lived a life of poverty and crime. in another text writing that he hates black people. >> all california's post police officers stand and training bureau. need to decertified mcnamara so that he can never bring his racial animus to bear

in the community again. >> i never thought somebody could just have that much hatred in their heart to where they would want to kill me just because of what i look like. >> the shooting sent green who you just heard from to the hospital where he faced a long recovery, forced to take a break from his football career at contra costa college, green's attorney says the racist texts are the final insult. mcnamara's lawyer has not publicly commented on these allegations so far. live in san jose, lena howland, abc seven news. >> all right. thank you so much, lena. jury selection begins today in the federal trial for the man charged with attacking speaker emerita, nancy pelosi's husband, paul. last october. surveillance video showed david depape breaking into the pelosi home in san francisco, eventually striking paul in the head with a hammer. depape has been federally charged with attempted kidnaping and assault, along with other charges in state court. the state trial date will not be set until after

the federal trial finishes. opening statements are expected on thursday. paul pelosi is scheduled to testify in court next monday. former president donald trump is set to take the witness stand at his fraud trial today. it follows testimony from his two sons, his daughter, ivanka is scheduled to testify on wednesday. jobina has more on what to expect today. good morning, jobina. and good morning, gloria. >> thank you. former president trump is set to take the stand today in his own defense at his civil fraud trial in new york. trump reportedly told advisers he's not concerned about testifying the new york times says trump has held multiple preparation sessions. the judge already determined trump overstated his net worth by as much as $2.2 billion. but now the new york attorney general is seeking $250 million in damages and wants to prohibit trump from doing business in new york. >> the more that the former president says and goes into, the more record he creates that

can be used against him. frankly in this case and potentially in the other cases that are pending against him. and remember, those other cases are criminal cases. >> trump stormed out of court last month after the judge fined him $15,000 for violating a gag order twice in the case is unfolding with one year to go until election day. according to a new york times poll, trump holds an edge over president biden in four key swing states. that's arizona, georgia, michigan and nevada. today, the governor of iowa is expected to endorse florida governor ron desantis, not trump. kumasi. >> thank you, jobina. turning now to the latest in the israel-hamas war, two more palestinian refugee camps have been hit by israeli airstrikes in the central gaza strip. the u.n. now says that half of the hospitals in gaza are, quote, no longer functioning. us secretary of state antony blinken met with palestinian authority president mahmoud abbas in a surprise visit to the west bank. the biden administration now says

that it supports a, quote, humanity pause, end quote. but it is stopping short of calling for a ceasefire. >> i think everyone would welcome the humanitarian pauses. there's no doubt about that. there are obviously different views, as including on the question of the cease fire. but there's no doubt from my conversations with all of our colleagues who are in amman yesterday that everyone would welcome the humanitarian pause. >> israel's prime minister says there will be no cease fire unless all israeli hostages are released. today, activists in tacoma, washington, intend to protest a us military supply ship bound for israel after it was stalled at the port of oakland. loaded with weapons. the vessel called cape orlando was blockaded by protesters on friday. three people climbed and held on to the ladder to keep it from leaving the dock. they were arrested later. tacoma activists plan to show their solidarity with that protest. organizers are expecting hundreds of people to attend this afternoon. >> the war in gaza continues to spawn division here at home.

last night, tensions were high in san carlos, where a fundraising gala for the israeli military 75th anniversary was met by a rally outside of the event. those demonstrators calling for a cease fire in gaza. abc seven news reporter tara campbell was there and has the story. audience you can find pro-palestinian protesters gathered outside a gala fundraiser for the israeli defense forces. >> the best thing we could say is this is a really horrible time to think about fundraising for the israeli military. >> lisa rofel is with one of the organizations behind the protest. >> this is led by children and grandchildren of holocaust survivors because they are demanding never again for anyone . hundreds chanting as gala attendees arrived. the fundraiser, hosted by a group called friends of the israeli defense forces, who say the dinner celebrates 75 years since

the establishment of the modern state of israel. >> we need a cease fire and we need to stop arming israel. >> what's your hope tonight? >> more and more people come out, which i'm seeing. >> and a handful of counter-protesters also showing up. a police swat team out controlling the crowd. i'm here because i'm an american jew and how dare they kill palestinians in my name? and this evening was met with a couple of tense moments between protesters even right now behind me, there's one potentially breaking out. >> i think the overwhelming majority of the folks here want peace and they want they want folks to be able to just live their lives. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. >> 5-10 and we're looking at live doppler seven because it is busy this morning. we are waking up to rainfall thanks to a cold front. here's an area of low pressure that is pushing that cold front through our neck of the woods this morning. most of the rain currently is in the

north bay, but this front will continue to move south as the morning goes on. so we do expect rain to move into the east bay, the south bay, the peninsula over the next couple of hours. we'll take a look at your morning rush. we'll have scattered showers as the biggest impact with this. light rain is going to be just slick roads out there. but because of the time change, our sun is going to rise earlier. so our sun gets up here at 640 this morning. so we'll get brighter a bit earlier. the evening rush looks fine. this front is out of here. we'll have brighter skies, dry pavement. so it's really the morning rush that is impacted by this wet weather. here's live. doppler seven, the showers right now mainly falling in the north bay. we are seeing some snow around tahoe, but it's high elevation snow probably above about 7000ft is where we have a winter weather advisory in effect today through tomorrow. we're above 7000ft. we could pick up a couple of inches of snow. most areas are seeing rain right now. it's not too cold quite yet, but we will see cold air rush in behind this front later on tomorrow. this morning on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale two level one light storm with those scattered light

a day ahead of the beginning of the asia pacific economic cooperation summit, or apec. yellen's office says that the two will discuss a wide range of topics, including economic competition, national security and climate change. president biden is set to meet china's president in san francisco next week. if you will be in san francisco during a peg. be prepared for some major security restrictions as that includes a closure of one lane in each direction of the bay bridge and the closure of off ramps to both fourth and fifth streets. but with road closures, traffic detours and media attention, some are worried that any negative headlines might keep future visitors away. abc7 news reporter suzanne phan shows us how some are pushing back against any so-called doom loop narrative for one week. >> the asia pacific economic cooperation summit will bring dozens of heads of state, foreign dignitaries and business leaders to san francisco. and

with that comes ultra tight security. san francisco's homelessness drug addiction crisis and shuttered businesses have made headlines around the world, but many communities are fighting back against any doom loop narrative. >> we're trying to tell people don't believe everything you hear. come down and visit us and see what we're doing. stephen lee owns three businesses in chinatown, including samuel restaurant, which has been around for 100 years, and lines den, bar and lounge. >> he and others like jenny leung with the chinese culture center, want to celebrate their community with apec visitors. chinatown is one of the oldest chinatowns in america. >> it has such a rich history and it continues to remain an extremely vibrant in chinatown. >> sf. this mural went up on clay and grant just in time for apec. this 200 foot dragon on display at 667 grant avenue waits to be unveiled to big apec crowds. while there are concerns that bus and central subway

detours from apec would limit tourism to the area, community advocates remind visitors there will be a shuttle. >> local leaders in chinatown are stepping up and welcoming apec visitors, starting this week. >> the night market that's going to open for two days on friday the 10th and saturday, the 11th. >> then on wednesday, november 15th. lee says there will be two media tours for apec attendees. one of them will feature legacy and new restaurants in chinatown . >> we'll end up going to about, oh, about 15 of their legacy restaurants around chinatown. >> other events include chinatown after party for apec 2023 and a chinatown after dark walking tour of local historic bars on friday, november 17th. there's disco. yes chinatown. art block party featuring dance and entertainment. local djs and contemporary artists as san francisco gears up for apec and the global spotlight. local leaders are committed to chinatown and reclaiming the narrative. we are going to show

through apec what chinatown is going to be in san francisco, suzanne phan abc7 news. an alarming new development at golden gate fields. >> our media partners at the east bay times report another racehorse has died there, bringing the total to 15 so far this year and just seven since the end of september. labor officials say there's no direct link between the horses, but many are pending an official cause of death. other causes point to broken leg bones, gastrointestinal issues or even just sudden death. with 72 racehorses have now died at california tracks this year. since 1941, golden gate fields has straddle the border of berkeley and albany. it's already slated to close permanently in june of next year in the north bay. police want you to keep an eye out for this one dog that was seen roaming around over the weekend, last seen between santa rosa and sebastopol by the old airfield

off of south right road. now we're told the dog's name is shadow. abc7 spoke with an expert who said wolf, dogs are notoriously flight dogs, rather than fight dogs. so she says they want to avoid interactions with people and with other animals. >> this animal is just scared and on the run. i don't see him even going after cats or certainly anybody's dogs. the average person can't give a wolf dog the enrichment and mental and physical stimulation they need and deserve, so they end up getting into trouble. i mean, we've rescued a lot of them at dogwood animal rescue. >> this festival police department says if you see this wolf dog, do not approach it. just call the police. there's no word yet on how shadow got loose. who who is shadow's keeper? >> yeah. >> i want to know more about that. >> i want to know, too. what shadow just in the backyard all this time. >> probably. >> don't worry about me approaching it. >> yeah. thank you. i know it looks big to. you're good. i'm

weather. we'll watch those showers slowly move south as the morning goes on by. about 10 a.m, we'll probably find much of the action in the south bay and the east bay. but around lunchtime, we're pretty much done with this system. we'll have sunshine breaking out, so it's a brighter and drier second half to the day. so your evening commute should have no issues. we'll watch another system approach this early tomorrow morning on future weather, but it looks like it falls apart before it gets onshore. so we're not anticipating any rain on tuesday, just some morning clouds, too. afternoon sunshine looking at rainfall totals on the light side, again, we're going to end up with less than a 10th of an inch of rain in most areas as this front moves through this morning. so morning showers to sunshine. that's the call, i think a lot more like november this week with temperatures maxing out mainly in the 60s for your daytime highs overnight tonight, we'll find some chilly spots in the 40s will likely see some fog developing in the valleys of the north bay under mix of stars and clouds. here's the accuweather seven day forecast level one this morning, giving way to sunshine this afternoon. it's a pretty quiet week ahead for tuesday, wednesday and thursday. we'll have some chilly mornings here midweek, a slight chance of

either take leave or get paid using accrued time off. >> lovers of yosemite national park joined a major cleanup initiative collecting 10,000 pounds of trash. new data from that pickup shows all that they found in the trails, the trees and in the rivers. so a nonprofit pulled thousands of litter pieces at random over the past few weeks. among the most common were food wrappers cigaret butts, cleaning wipes and napkins. but the most frequent find this year unidentifiable microplastic fragments. thankfully, there was notably less trash this year than last year. ski and snowboard season is right around the corner. >> lake tahoe resorts are already preparing for the upcoming snow season. heavenly ski resort and boreal mountain planned to open on november 17th. and if you don't have a calendar handy right now, that is next friday. other resorts are expected to open shortly after on october 27th. the uc

chance of a thunder shower this morning. but it seems very isolated in nature. again, this front is going to move south into the east bay in the south bay as the morning wears on over the next couple of hours. so it is a level one light system. we have this morning. the scattered light showers. your biggest impact going to be slick roads for the morning commute. we'll go hour by hour on future weather time out. this system in eight minutes. let's check in with jobina, see how traffic's doing with this wet weather. thank you, drew. >> good morning, everybody. so we do have a new crash reported right now in sunnyvale. we don't see a slowdown on the map just yet. this just was reported, though, and minor injuries are involved as well on southbound 101 at fair oaks avenue. we do see a lot more rain droplets, though, coming down on our san rafael camera, showing you 101 here. but the traffic itself is clear. and then also some puddles and things splashing up here at the golden gate bridge where we do have a fog advisory. in effect, it doesn't appear to be too foggy. i would say a lot more slippery. and our drive times for the bridges are still good. so everything is on time for the golden gate bay bridge and san mateo bridge. gloria, all right.

>> thank you so much. jobina to crash is are under investigation this morning in the east bay. both involved oakland police officers. the first incident happened around 1140 last night on highway 24 near wilder road. that's just east of the caldecott tunnel. the impact of the crash knocked over a pole. the officer was seen in the back of an ambulance. it is unclear what their condition is at this time. another crash happened about an hour and a half later at the same location in two cars crashed. one ended up on its side after hitting a patrol vehicle that had responded to the first crash. an officer was in the suv when the crash happened and the driver of the other vehicle had to be extricated. both of their conditions are not known this morning. >> calls for a hate crime, charges against the now former san jose police officer. the officer shot a man last year and we are now learning about racist texts that he's accused of sending the day after that shooting, abc seven news reporter lena howland live in san jose with reaction from the victim and his civil rights

the weather with meteorologist drew tuma. good morning, drew. >> hey, good morning, gloria. we are tracking rain for the morning commute. here's live. doppler seven on a cold front is moving through northern california. it is a level one light storm on the storm impact scale. we'll show you where some of the steadier showers are. we'll zoom on in. we have a shower that's moving out of marin county. it's going into the east bay and about the next 30 minutes or so, i just want to track this cell of some heavier showers. el cerrito, we could expect a downpour right around 550 this morning as the system continues to push off to the south and the east. this cold front also bringing some high elevation snow to tahoe. snow is falling above about 7000ft. this morning. so it's not a very cold system we have right now, but a winter weather advisory is in effect through 10 p.m. tomorrow evening because we do expect a few inches of snow above 7000ft. so certainly over the passes that could create some slick travel today and tomorrow here is the storm impact. scale is a level one light storm this morning. scattered light showers through the next couple of hours
