landing at sfo because of a reported bomb threat. all of this coming in within the last hour. >> let's get right to abc seven news reporter tim johns live at the airport with the latest we're getting coming in. tim. this is the security adviser re. >> please maintain yeah dan almond. >> now just moments ago we saw a stream of passengers walking besides us here at the sfo departures hall. they were escorted by authorities. they told us that they could not stop to speak to us. however, one

woman did say they were going to be searched by police. now the sfo duty manager says a passenger on board this flight did make a bomb threat of some sort and that is the issue at play here. now, the flight was flying from lax to vancouver when it landed here at sfo just before 930. flight tracking data shows the flight made it almost to oregon before turning around. the plane was able to land at a terminal here at sfo, although not in an isolated area after it was determined that the threat level was low. we spoke to one man on board the plane earlier by phone. i want you guys to have a listen to what he told us as we had left. >> they said they were doing an emergency landing and they didn't tell us where or anything . we just ended up here in san francisco and we're on the tarmac and they come on and say they're waiting for the air marshals. >> now, there were 148 passengers and eight crew members on board this flight.

united airlines says they're working to get everyone back to vancouver as soon as possible in sfo airport. tim johns, abc seven news. >> okay, tim, thanks very much. and with that, we'll say good evening. thank you for joining us. >> i'm dan ashley and i'm ama daetz. we do want to turn our attention now to the forecast because we have weather arriving. we do. >> and let's check in with what we're seeing from live doppler seven, a level one storm on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale is moving our way tonight, kicking off a week of wet weather. abc seven news meteorologist sandhya sal is tracking it all including those effects on the morning commute. sandhya >> yeah, it's going to be slow going for the morning commute across parts of the bay area. dan and let me show you live. doppler seven. it is a storm that is developing in the pacific just spinning their light level one and it's on its way. so over the next 24 hours, here's what you can expect. 4 a.m. we are looking at wet roadways, 40s and 50s. on those temperatures. you will notice that 6 a.m, still some scattered showers out there. light to moderate in intensity. by 9:00,

that activity shifts northward and most of tomorrow you have a mix of sun and clouds. but 3:00, you see a few more showers developing in the north bay as we head into wednesday. our next round arrives on our exclusive abc seven news storm impact scale. it's a level one with those scattered showers. watch out for slippery roads, surf will be breezy and can't rule out a slight possibility of thunder. so your travel time for the morning commute may be slower due to some slick roadways and there will be areas of low visibility. i'll be back to let you know how long this wet weather is sticking around this week. plus, a look at the apec forecast coming up. tonight >> san francisco shining bright. >> everything is so energy stick. i love the people around and i feel like we're starting the holiday early. >> the city is coming alive for apec, the epic international event this week, and the city is

pulling out all the stops at every level. >> we got scared. we thought something else is going on. >> but despite the city's best efforts to put on a show, many are skeptical about the sudden makeover. >> the interesting part is seeing them clean. the city up, seeing all the highway patrol staying at our hotel and all the barricades they put up from road closures and new additions to big nighttime events. >> we have team coverage on top of it all. >> and tonight, in a clash of messages, the third day of the asia-pacific economic cooperation summit closed with opposing light shows as lasers beamed down market street. another light show projected messages of cease fire now and stop bombing children in protest of the ongoing conflict between israel and hamas in gaza. it matches what we've been seeing during the apec summit so far. san francisco shaping up as host city to 21 different member economies, but being met by frequent political demonstrations and along with that laser light show, the ferris wheel is now up and running at fisherman's wharf.

but all the extra glamor is getting some pretty mixed reviews. >> it really is. abc7 news reporter joe stone talked with san franciscans tonight, some of whom were excited of course and others who question the city's special effort for this big conference. >> market street is now lit up by a dozen laser space cannons as the ferris wheel is operating in fisherman's wharf. and the exploratory. liam has a massive photo of the san francisco skyline outside of it. apec week is here and san francisco appears ready to host presidents and prime ministers of some of the most powerful nations in the world. >> i love it. i feel like we're starting the holiday early with the apec conference. >> i haven't seen this on a monday before. >> monday night, these laser beams were turned on near the ferry building, similar to the ones used during pride month. but these have light changing capacity. there are also double the amount as there was in the past, so it's likely ships on the pacific ocean will again be able to see them. >> this time we're going to sort

know a kid just got told by his mom to clean his room. >> hey, there's guests coming. go clean your room. and then he cleans like the living room and then just, like, moves all his clothes into, like, the closet. and the mess is still there. the homeless people have not vanished overnight. just. just an fyi for everyone, but for apec week, the bright lights sure are bright. >> and the new attractions sure are busy. j.r. stone, abc seven news. >> and it comes as tonight we have new details ahead of wednesday's meeting between president biden and chinese president xi jinping. bloomberg reports the us and china will announce an agreement that will see beijing cracking down on the manufacturing and export of fentanyl. the agreement will see china going after chemical companies that manufacture the source material for the highly potent synthetic opioid. in exchange, the biden administration will lift restrictions on china's forensic police institute, which has a controversial role in alleged human rights abuses. both presidents biden and xi are set to meet on the sidelines of the

summit to discuss this. and a multitude of other topics. >> i won't get too far ahead of the meeting, and i'll let the president speak for himself after he has the chance to meet with president xi. but we believe that there are areas where our interests overlap, like our efforts to combat the illicit fentanyl trade. >> and we know san francisco has been hit hard by the opioid crisis. the city's medical examiner says 647 people died from an unintentional overdose last year. >> and while this summit is shutting down some sections of the city, many local restaurants tell us that they're watching their profits dry up by the day. >> abc seven news reporter tim johns has this report. earlier today, hearing more about these fears of bad business from the international visitors to the high profile meetings and press coverage, san francisco officials believe this week's apec summit will pump as much as $50 billion into the economy. >> but it's really about the longer term investments in these

that these hopefully these discussions, the talks, the exposure to san francisco has for the city, despite those lofty projections, however, not everyone is benefiting. >> we're the people. >> i mean, that's basically what the businesses are asking. >> manuel ramirez owns bonchon korean fried chicken inside the metreon just feet away from where apec is taking place. he says since the security fences around the conference went up last week, his business has plummeted, with monday being especially difficult. we ended up closing it the worst day as a business owner in soma. >> we've been there for 12 years. we know what the ups and downs of the area are like and this was just a complete disruption. >> it's a similar story across town at abaca, near fisherman's wharf. owner francis ng says while his restaurant isn't inside the security perimeter, they too have noticed a substantial hit to their business. and we started seeing, you know, like from like 80 covers to 60 to 40 to like in the tents, ng says. for this

week, abaca has made several modifications. that includes limiting their menu on some days and canceling a special guest chef to do an event at the restaurant. ng tells me he hopes more people come back soon. >> restaurants have really tight margins. like i don't know if, you know, like, you know, between. 5 to 15% are your margins. like you don't have a lot to play around with in order to lessen the impact. >> the city has taken steps to help some small businesses. ramirez says. they bought the equivalent of 1200 meals from his restaurant, something he says certainly helps but isn't close to being enough. >> the city is hoping that the international investment or or, you know, will come out of this. but will the small business owners in soma who have tried to endure the pandemic, will we be alive in san francisco? >> tim johns, abc7 news. >> now another thing put in place to help local restaurants is that the golden gate restaurant association in partnership with the city, has agreed to extend a restaurant week until the end of the summit

campbell are helping launch a campaign to encourage safe driving near campus. abc seven news south bay reporter lauren martinez was at a kickoff event. >> students at westmont high school in campbell want drivers to slow down. >> i just got my driver's license last year and i feel like as a student i've seen both the pedestrian side because i used to walk to school and now i see the driver's side of it. >> on monday afternoon. students who are a part of the school's traffic advisory council partnered with the city of san jose to launch a slow down campaign. students, parents and faculty signed the i drive the speed limit pledge. >> we have like a middle lane here. the cars will speed down even though it's supposed to just be for turning. i've seen too many students who have to jump back because a driver just speeds right through. >> council member pam foley addressed what the city is doing to make streets safer. the vision zero effort focuses on changing the infrastructure of certain streets with high accident and fatality rates. >> it's actually a huge lift because there's money that is

involved. there's manpower that's involved. but at the end of the day, there's people who are dying on our streets in 2022, eight year old jacob villanueva was hit by a car and killed while walking to school with his babysitter in san jose. >> they were in a crosswalk a block away from castlemont elementary, part of the nearby campbell union school district, to make streets safer. san jose is one of three bay area cities where speed cameras will be installed in high accident areas and school zones. my residents in district nine are already telling me what streets they want me to us to put the cameras on. >> but the police department will have to do an analysis along with the department of transportation. >> in the meantime, these high school students and new drivers themselves hope to promote safer driving habits. >> i think with teenagers especially, there's just kind of this culture of like, oh, driving is cool driving fast is cool, and it's so dangerous and you could kill someone with your car.

fence line of the facility you see behind me that it was arson and that it was done and set intentionally. >> a large team of firefighters battling the flames for three hours. officials say the fire burned an equivalent of six football fields. it damaged the concrete freeway over pass. it was that hot la city officials say traffic was not as bad as they feared. today, however, governor newsom says fire investigators are now following up on all of the possible clues. >> so how might our thanksgiving week traffic be here in the bay area this year? triple a is predicting more than 55 million americans will be traveling for thanksgiving. and with apec in town, there may be some extra travel involved for those hoping to break away earlier. still, experts say having so many people on the road could also be a good sign for this holiday season. >> even in an economy that is certainly very unstable and very uneven for a lot of people, there is still a lot of demand

for people who want to go somewhere for thanksgiving. so it's a certainly a very good sign about at least the bay area economy overall. >> and you know, the drill. if you're planning to travel this thanksgiving, whether you fly or drive, just give yourself plenty of extra time. >> i can't believe thanksgiving is ten days away. >> how is this happening? >> is it even possible? but the rain is here. that's right. >> abc seven news meteorologist sandyha patel has the latest for us. sandy. >> yeah. and ama and dan that rain will be arriving early tomorrow morning. let me show you a live picture from our emeryville camera. you can see a cool view of that laser light show sf illuminate. but as we look down market street, a lovely view from emeryville periods of showers. this week we're looking at an unsettled pattern ponding on the roadways slower travel times. this is not going to be an all day rain every single day. so here's a look at the forecast for apec. 68 degrees tomorrow afternoon. but tomorrow morning, it's a wet start. make sure you have the

umbrellas, especially if you're going to the event wednesday. we have our next round coming breezy and cooler scattered showers thursday and still unsettled for friday. here is the storm that is going to bring us rounds of showers. that area of low pressure spinning off the coast. the first band of energy comes through here. while many of us are sleeping. and on our local doppler right now, we do not see the rain yet. but that will be changing come tomorrow morning. 40s and 50s on your temperatures. here's another view of that san francisco illuminate. as you can see, down market street. pretty view there. showers arrive early tomorrow morning. more rounds of wet weather through friday and isolated thunder is possible midweek. on our exclusive abc seven news storm impacts scale. this is a light level one for tomorrow. scattered showers, slippery roadways. we're looking at breezy conditions and a slight possibility of thunder as we go hour by hour, 4:00 tomorrow morning, you will notice light to moderate showers moving in. if you're an early commuter, be aware of this. 6 a.m, you're still looking at

pockets of wet weather and then that shifts northward at 9 a.m. so most of the bay area is actually just looking at clouds, sun mix, that rain activity continues to shift north and then here comes the next round. wednesday morning at 11 a.m, one. s again, we are expecting scattered showers, but there will be brief heavy rain. it looks like wednesday night, maybe even the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm. 11 p.m. you're looking at those showers on wednesday. and this pattern just repeats over and over through friday, possibly even longer. so rainfall projections through thursday morning. highest totals will be in the wettest north bay locations, looking at close to 9/10 there. clear lake lakeport, over an inch, an inch and a half in the santa cruz mountains. the rest of you, which is where most of us are in the bay area, we're looking at a quarter of an inch to about 8/10 of an inch of rain, and that's just taking you through thursday. so we'll add some more rain to those totals as your morning temperatures in

the 40s and 50s. don't leave home without your umbrellas and you may need a light jacket tomorrow afternoon. you're looking at high temperatures ranging from the mid 50s around lakeport to the low 70s in the southern part of our viewing area, 68 in the city and here's a look at what's going to happen with this low. it's a cut off, low cut off from the jet stream. so it just meanders over the pacific and then eventually makes its move. the sierra will see an opportunity for rain and snow mixing in the accuweather 70 forecast showers arrive tomorrow with that level one system when days a one chance of thunderstorms comes a one on thursday and friday. and then as we head into the weekend saturday continuing chance after that we're going to go dry and milder for sunday. and mondays looking dry as well. dan and emma will
