photos have been taken, the parties enjoyed and the unity message struck. what happens from here? will the summit truly be a reset of us-china relationships? will nations truly step up their efforts to curb climate change? and will economic growth in the future truly protect the little guys as much as the big companies? yes it's trite to say only time will tell, but in this case, perhaps one year will tell. one year until the next. apec summit in peru. back to you. >> all right, great coverage from kristen sze and during the apec summit, you may have noticed the difference on the streets of san francisco, though they were cleaner and the unhoused population wasn't as prevalent. >> abc7 news reporter luz pena went to the streets to see firsthand where are the homeless? she's here to tell us what she learned. loose >> that's right. i'm in downtown san francisco on the completely different. we found two main changes the homeless population

5:06 pm
are glad more homeless individuals are now in shelters but are concerned of what will happen once apec is over. so you're going to keep pushing for this? >> we're definitely going to keep pushing. we're all the constituents, the property owners, the businesses we are the mayor's constituents. we are the city of san francisco and they need to listen to us. >> and san francisco's homeless department said that even though there was no special shelter capacity for apec, the city did open winter shelter on the same day apec's started in san francisco, adding about 300 beds to the shelter system of our city. ama >> dan all right, thank you so much, louis. and today, president biden wrapped up the apec conference by meeting with mexican president andres manuel lopez obrador. the leaders discussed two critical topics impacting both countries migration and fentanyl. lopez obrador was also hoping to use this meeting to urge the us to resume talks with cuba and end us sanctions, bay bridge lanes and ramps that are closed because of the apec summit are
5:07 pm
set to reopen tonight at 9:00 pm. >> now that it's over, one lane in each direction has been closed since tuesday in addition, the fifth street and fourth street off ramps of interstate 80 will reopen despite fears of big traffic jams due to the closures. we've had no reports of major impacts on the commute, with the exception, of course, of that huge protest that shut down the bridge for several hours. but in terms of the day to day restructuring of the traffic flow, no real problems at all. the end of the apec summit, coupled with the thanksgiving holiday, is likely to affect travel starting tonight and through the weekend. the final day of the conference, along with ongoing protests, led to some early arrivals at san francisco international airport this morning, travel experts say today is the busiest day for thanksgiving. air travel. some visitors flying into oakland say their holiday is off to a smooth start. oh yeah, it was pretty smooth. >> you know, got the luggage? it's a lot. it's not as congested as in chicago. so it was pretty get in and get out.

one storm. that area of low pressure is finally starting to inch closer to the bay area. here's what you can expect to the rain continuing through tonight and then turning over to heavier rain tomorrow morning before this turns to showers tomorrow afternoon. the winds have been picking up, gusting to 35 right now on mount eminem. and it's a light level one storm through tomorrow. rain heavy at times, thunderstorms, gusty winds and minor roadway flooding is expected. i'll be back with the rest of the timeline coming up. dan? >> okay, sandhya, thanks a lot. we'll touch base again in a moment. in the north bay, a new campaign is targeting the dangers of fentanyl in marin county. that's as president biden, as we reported here, met with mexico's president on the last day of apec today to talk about the fentanyl crisis facing both of our countries. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard is in marin. it's a new eye catching ad campaign which asks the question. hammerin or wtf, where's the fentanyl? >> the answer is everywhere. >> it happens from mansions. it
5:10 pm
happens in encampments, it happens everywhere in between. >> anita renzetti from free marin says the new campaign appearing online and in person, was launched by nonprofits and marin county. it's designed to be big, bold and provocative to help break the myth that fentanyl isn't a problem here. >> so we're just really strongly trying to reduce the stigma around addiction and around substance use disorder, because if we don't do that, we really can't tackle this. if parents are like, that would never be my kid. >> and i think that's why it's red, because we want people to stop and we want people to actually look at the campaign. >> lucia ramirez from marin health and human services helped produce video targeting young people. >> fentanyl is here in marin. it's up to us to stop it. >> some of the clips challenge young people to spot a real pill from one laced with fentanyl. >> which pill kills? >> i have no idea. >> county officials say accidental fentanyl overdoses kill someone every nine days in marin on average, overdose has

parked cars over an embankment and then launched over a swimming pool before crashing into the kitchen. fortunately no one was injured, but there is quite a bit of damage left behind. as you see, the woman who lives in the house wasn't home at the time. >> she would absolutely have been drinking her tea at 7 a.m. in the kitchen and she wasn't there. just very, very thankful, extremely lucky. >> the driver and the passenger inside the car, they both walked away from the crash without any injuries. a stunner in the ai industry. >> chatbot's parent company fired ceo sam altman. coming up, you'll find out why it's so abominable that he would tap into those kind of sentiments and give people permission to take those views as the fallout grows against elon musk's response to an anti-semitic post on x and it's costing the social media company abc7 news at five. >>

5:16 pm
>> since elon musk took over twitter antisemitism on the platform has risen. a recent report by the anti-defamation league found it's up nearly 1,000% since early october. now musk is under fire for sharing his own damaging comment, calling a post about an anti-semitic concept known as the great replacement theory. quote the actual truth. >> this idea that jews are responsible for replacing white people in this country with brown and black people. it's the same theory that the tiki torch bearing white supremacists talked about when they say jews do not replace us. in charlottesville. and so it's abominable that he would tap into those kinds of sentiments and give people permission to take those views. >> the post was shared on november 15th and friday. several major companies announced they pulled adverts easements from x. this includes disney, lionsgate and apple and the first domino to fall. ibm, who said in a statement, ibm has zero tolerance for hate speech and discrimination and we have immediately suspended all
5:17 pm
advertising on x while we investigate this entirely unacceptable situation. >> what i hear is a sort of an unsustainable loss in revenue because they're not just any big name advertiser, they're also big spenders. both apple and ibm are in the top five. i mean, they are disproportion, really responsible for most of twitter for a large chunk of twitter's revenue. media matters president and ceo angelo carusone says it's not just musk's post that led to the loss of advertisements, but also ad placement. >> media matters investigated ad placement, finding these major companies had content shared next to content with white national hashtags, even though they were promised otherwise. carusone believes these advertisers and companies leaving is hurting x's brand safe image. and while it will be slow, he anticipates more users and advertisers leave the platform going forward. >> in a way, we have a need and an appetite for users to leave. there's alternatives now where the people have planted their roots and there's examples where it's finally time where we see it's finally time that you can leave and you can survive. and so i do think the exodus will
